Speaker 1 (00:00):
We have breaking news out of the NFL. We'll get
to with this conversation right off the bat with our
good friend from PFF dot com. He is a analyst
and a host of so many of their great pieces
of content out there, and spent the week as many
of his colleagues did, up in Indy at the Scouting Combine.
Welcome back, Max Chadwick for PFF.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
How you doing, buddy, I'm doing a great guy. Are
you guys doing?

Speaker 1 (00:21):
We are doing fantastic. It's been a few minutes. You know,
we had you on I feel like, way too much
for your liking, and we appreciate you bearing with us
during the college season, but we gave you a little
breather and we figured let's let you come back from Indy,
get get you win back, and let's get the four
one one on what you witnessed out there. First of all,
how was it? And you know there's been all this

(00:42):
talk about moving the combine around. They just can't do that.
It's made for Indy.

Speaker 2 (00:48):
No, I love it. I think Indianapolis the perfect city.
Four is the perfectly central to everything, everything's walking distance.
So I don't think they should move it, honestly, So Uh, yeah,
it's always one of the most fun weeks of the year,
where you know, it's you get to see everyone you
don't really can see that often. The one thing I'll say, though,
is like it is rough having to stay out every
night and then wake up early every morning for five

(01:09):
days in a row. Now I'll not eat the best stuff,
you know, like McDonald or burg hang every day. So
it is an exhausting week overall, but it's always one
of the most fun weeks in the year. Two.

Speaker 1 (01:19):
Well, look, none of these guys were scarfing down Big Max.
I mean, Trey and I were in here watching it
and we want to go to the combin next year.
We might join you on radio road and have a
good time. But we were sitting here watching it basically
trying not to do play by play because that's prohibitive.
And man, some of these big guys, it's amazing just
on a broad scale. Look, when you get a chance
to see these guys, especially the defensive lineman, the offensive lineman,

(01:42):
the hog Molley's as we call them, competing at this
high level, they're running faster than ever, they're jumping higher
than ever. I mean, Chamar Stewart, my goodness. The production
wasn't great, but he's a freak in the gym there.
Just talk about being up close and personal and seeing
some of these just giants of industry literally in terms
of these prospects that are coming in as defensive linemen

(02:02):
and also the offensive line class.

Speaker 2 (02:05):
Yeah, absolutely, it's always so cool seeing these guys in person.
And like you said, I mean, these guys are getting
more and more athletic every single year, and these guys
are obviously training to become NFL players since the day
they're born. Well, so that's where you're seeing these guys
become more and more, you know, better and better and
more and more athletic too. So yeah, it's so cool
seeing these these freak athletes in person and getting us

(02:28):
the okay, who's the fastest, who can drump the highs,
who can dump the farthest. It's always really cool and
I love the like you said, the offensive line of
Demons line, the specifically seeing those big guys out there
look way more athletic than I could ever look.

Speaker 1 (02:41):
Max's true story here. We had some terrible thunderstorms in
our neck of the woods last night, so much so
that my dog woke me up about five times. So
I found myself at three am on the PFF mock
draft simulator trying to pigeonhole what my panthers need. But
I also read up on some of your stuff the
biggest risers, and I want to talk about two of
these guys in particular, Shamar Stewart, Texas a and him

(03:02):
out of the SEC who just tested through the roof.
And then one of our own here from South Carolina,
Nick im and Warri, who we saw play up close
and personal here covering the game Cocks. Just some remarkable
testing going on there, and we can attest the fact
that you know, the production maybe for Stewart wasn't off
the charts. Em and Wory was a key cock to
what they did defensively, including some of the big games

(03:24):
down the stretch. They stood out to you in particular.

Speaker 2 (03:26):
Right absolutely, both those guys I think are pretty much
locked to be first round selections now in the NFL draft.
And Iman Worri. There's a lot to talk about him
being the top safety off the board, which is kind
of surprising considering, you know, Malachi star Exceerverces is really
true freshman season, even in high school, he's kind of
in the wire and wire safety one. Now of a sudden,
there's a lot to talk about em and Warri being

(03:48):
the first safety off the board. So because freaky athletic
he was. And Stewart obviously he had a terrific senior
ball he was terrific in India as well. I don't
know if anyone has made more money in the pre
you're app process than Shamar Stewart. Orma from a guy
that people liked. It is maybe like an early second
round pick to now one that people were talking about
as maybe a top ten pick in the NFL.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
Draft, no doubt about it. And that's why the combine
is so essential. You know how it works. You were there.
I mean it's a lying season to a certain degree,
a lot of agents, a lot of people going around
making deals. Some of these deals do happen. We've seen
some things happen in the NFL that were birthed out
of the Indianapolis Combine from the free agent market. And
now we turn to some of the guys that obviously

(04:29):
we're going to be looking at closely, and that's the
quarterback class. It's always the storyline. Obviously, no big workouts
there for either of the top two, at least what
we feel like is the top two. Did you have
any takeaways coming from Indie regarding cam Ward's appearance there,
and obviously it's all about medicals and meetings shand or
Sanders a lot of conversation about some of his comments.

(04:51):
Do you put a lot of stock into it? Is
it just one more piece of the puzzle here? Where
are you at with those two quarterbacks?

Speaker 2 (04:58):
I still have Georg Sanders QB one and Cam Moore's
QB two. It's razor thin between the two of them. No,
I honestly think it's you know, one A one B honestly,
but you know, talking to a lot of people with
the combine, it seems to be almost consensus that cam
Ward is QB one at should Row Sanders' is QB
two And a lot of people I talked to that
they just don't think Shure Sanders will be that high

(05:18):
of a pick at all. If this is a chance
that he might not even be a top ten pick
or maybe even a first round pick. I mean, I
you know, it only takes one team to fall in
love with them, obviously, but uh, there everything I talked
to kind of said that cam Woard seems to be
contents the top quarterback in the NFL draft, so I
personally disagree with that, but it's gonna be really interesting
to see what happens to Shroud Sanders specifically on draft night.

Speaker 3 (05:41):
It's crazy you say that, because I recently saw somebody
like mock Shaudor Sanders to the Steelers at twenty one,
and that seemed I think it was indange, and that
seems so low to me for Shaudor Sanders, Like I
get that he hasn't really done a whole lot as
far as showcasing after the fact, after the season, but
it wasn't too long ago that we were sitting here
looking at this monk at this draft and going, hey,

(06:03):
Shador Sanders one, yeah.

Speaker 1 (06:04):
Two, one and two, two and three? What about Sanders?
Gives you a better feeling? And this is where I
love having these conversations. Is all I do in my
home other than working on the PFF draft simulator is
study film and I try to figure out my little
pea brain which guy's better. And I had Bryce over
CJ because I saw things I liked better there last year.

(06:25):
I felt Caleb would be great, but I saw some
things with Jade and I like too, and I never
saw bo Nicks being in that mix as much as any.
It's always a matter of personal perspective. What about Sanders
to you, spells out a better prospect than Ward at
this point.

Speaker 2 (06:40):
Yeah, I think Schandor it's all mental with him, you know.
He I think he sees the game at the highest level.
He's like Bryce Young in that respect. I think create
post snap piece is so smart with where to go
with the football. He the tools aren't the best obviously
with him, and that's why I think a lot of
people have cam over him. But I just I think
I won't say he's gonna be as gotas Row Burrows.

(07:02):
I think that's obviously lofty praised, but like that's kind
of like the mold you're hoping he could turned into.
So I just think the floor there for shore standards
is pretty high. Now, the ceiling went not be that high.
It might never be a top five quarterback in the NFL,
but I do think that you know, just the way
he sees the game and the way he attacks defenses,
and how snafey is the football and how accurate he
is I saw. I think all those respects that he's

(07:25):
better than cam Warden those respects in my opinion.

Speaker 1 (07:27):
What's your thought on the other quarterbacks that did work out?
We saw Jackson Dart again rain of salt. It is
what it is of the combine Underwear Olympics, but he
had some high level throws. Will Howard mixed opinions on
his outing there, and obviously you've got some other guys
like Shuck from Louisville. Is there potentially a third player

(07:47):
in the mixed meaning Dart that will be in the
first round in your opinion? Could it be even four
or is it capped at three at the most?

Speaker 2 (07:55):
I mean, I gues said before, I don't even know
if we get two in the first round, so I
don't know. I wouldn't take a third one in the
first round. Personally, I think it was a huge, huge
gap between QB two and QB three, and this year's draft,
like QB three for me is probably worth like a
late second, early third round pick in my opinion at least,
So I didn't really learn too much in that respect
at who QB three is gonna be. Honestly, it's probably

(08:18):
gonna be either Jackson Dark or Jaylen Milroe. So it's
you know, there's there's things I like with both of them,
but like I said before, there's definitely things that scare
me off from really taking either guy in the first round.
But those are the two I would probably say at
least have the best chance at being QB three, But
like I said, I don't know if QB three is
the first round pick this year.

Speaker 1 (08:39):
Well, Tree over here is a huge Genser Steeler fan.
He's worried to that they're gonna take mil Row and
it's it's gonna be a disaster. But never Tree, I
think you had a question from Max as we wrap up.

Speaker 3 (08:46):
Here, mostly just wondering for from your perspective, a guy
that really covers this combine in this draft a lot
more than even myself. Is there are there any like
sleeper picks that you could see for the Steelers there
in round one? I even thought, which granted his draft
stock is kind of skyrocketing, but him and Warr like,
if he's there at twenty one, do the Steelers just

(09:08):
take him on talent alone. Look, I know they've got
you know, Minka Fitzpatrick back there, but he's not getting
any younger. And that's a guy that you could really
put back there and kind of, I guess mold into
what you want from a safety perspective. Are there any
other positions that you could see the Steelers targeting there
in the first round.

Speaker 2 (09:24):
Yeah, I think even Warry is a fun call out,
you know, and he kind of fits with Mica Fitzpatrick.
Fitzpatrick is more of like a deep free safety, men
warr is kind of a box safety that you can
put all around the defense, So he'd be a fun
chess piece for Mike Tomlin to use that defense. I've
seen a lot of receiver for them I've seen. I

(09:44):
think corner is another one i'd throw out there. I
think the cornerback room for Pittsburgh was not very good
at all last year. Maybe a guy like to Day
Baron could be an option at twenty one overall or
someone of that ilk as well. But Yeah, for me,
I think receiver is where at least I'm looking right
now for anyone that can maybe become a new stealer.

Speaker 1 (10:07):
Max for our Panthers audience. Last question, if I'm at
number eight, which they are right now, and edge rusher
is what I need, and I would assume Mason Graham,
who a lot of Panthers fans want will be gone
by then maybe not. We'll see who's the edge rusher
of choice. I no, schemes are different. There's a lot
of conversation about that. But as we stand right now,
is it is it Samar, is it Pierce? Is it

(10:29):
Jalen Walker, who is sort of a joker player. Who
do you see as the edge number one right now
coming off the board.

Speaker 2 (10:36):
Yeah, I think ab the Carter will be the first guy.
But after that, I mean I think for the Panthers,
I don't think he will go this high, so I
don't But my personal opinion he's edged too is James
Pierce Junior from Tennessee. I've seen a lot of mockery
goes late first round, early second round, so yeah, I
think Pierce is a guy that I fell in love with,

(10:59):
so I think if he's there at eight, he will
be there at eight. I think I would target him
from Carolina, But I don't know if he's gonna actually
be the pick. But in terms of what I'm hearing
and how guys are going right now, like maybe a
Shamar Stewart could emerge at ends too, maybe Mikel Williams,
maybe a Jalen Walker, like you said, maybe Mike Green

(11:20):
as Wilfam Marshall at the off field just kind of
check out with him. Those are some of the other
guys that I think are in the conversation. And like
I said, I love Tears, but I just personally don't
think he's going to be a top ten pick, even
though I personally would take him with the top ten pick.

Speaker 1 (11:33):
And this is why I'm a bozo and I'm on
the radio. I'm sitting they're setting this thing up beautifully
in Jim Nance style, Like now, who the edge rusher
number one? And Abdul Carter? Nowhere on my damn brain
because it's a given Abdull Carter, it's not going to
number eight. But you're right, who's the edge rusher number one? Well,
it's the guy that's the freakiest of all of them.
We'll see if the foot's okay. A lot of news
out there, and of course when we catch you next time,

(11:55):
we'll go over some of the trades and free agent stuff.
But thank you so much. Max Chadwick stopping by, get
a plug again. What's going on right now? Man?

Speaker 2 (12:02):
Yeah, of course you can. I host the PF College
Football show, and I'm also on the PNF NFL Show
a lot, so you can find both those on YouTube
or anywhere you get your podcasts, and also all my
articles live at PFF dot com as well.

Speaker 1 (12:14):
Awesome man. We'll keep following your work and can't wait
to talk to you closer to the draft next

Speaker 2 (12:19):
Thanks guys, appreciate you
