video game show here at Geekberse. I'm your one and
only host, Dylan Muss. And a little solo episode, which
I don't think I've done in a couple months. I
try and do these every once in a while. I
think it mixes things up. Sometimes I have too much

on my mind and I need to get out of
my mind into you and your podcast listening app. And
that's what's happening today. You know, every year, Game Awards
is coming up in just a few short days. We're
gonna have a second episode this week breaking it all down.
I'm gonna try as well to do a livestream reaction
of the Game Awards. We'll see how I'm a feeling

on that given day if I can to start at
that very time. I forget exactly when that livestream starts,
but just check that out if you want to tune
into that. But yeah, every year of the last couple
years at least, I've done a little solo episode, a short,
little one where I just go through and go through
the game wards. Obviously, as a I'm not on the
jury by any means, but I'm part of that ten percent,

which is the whole entire world that can go on
the website, create an account and vote on the different categories.
So I want to do that, but I also had
so much else to talk about, and since you know,
game Wards is coming up and then this and that
and Game of the Year is coming up pretty soon,
in all these fun things, I just don't know when
I'd be able to talk about some of these games.
I wanted to do it. Well, the iron was hot,

(01:40):
so to speak. So this episode, which was originally one
topic of me doing my game boards votes, it's now
that plus my impressions on the new Hitman em and
m DLC. Also the Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls beta that
I've been playing this weekend, as well as Marvel Cosmic Invasion.
So you're getting hit Man two, Marvel Topics, and game awards,

(02:04):
a lot of fun stuff and yeah, just me to
break it all down for you. So I think I'm
going to start with the eminem hit Man DLC. So
for anyone who's not aware of this Hitman World of Assassination,
one of my very favorite games, which I've talked about
many times on side quest here, and for the last
I don't know. While years. I guess at this point

(02:25):
they've been doing celebrity ets elusive targets. So what that
means is that there's some celebrity storyline setup, whether the
celebrity is playing themselves like Bruce Lee, which happened, you know,
just a couple of months ago, or at sometimes celebrity
coming in as like a fictional character within the world.
And with the elusive targets, essentially you have like a
limited amount of time to take them out. That's generally

(02:48):
for like the main mode of the setting. But then
there's also like the arcade version where you can just
kind of play over and over again, even if there's
like a thirty minute time or cool down if you
fail or something like that. So not quite the regular
Hitman experience. I think these are or I don't love
the way they're framed within the game. I don't like
that limitation of the timing of it, and I don't
like that a lot of these things go away, like
the Bruce Lee one is like disappear from the game now,

(03:10):
and it's like probably because of rights and stuff. It's
just like is not going to exist ever again, maybe
like who really knows, So I don't like that. I
don't like the idea that these wonderful developers that I
want to, you know, play all the content they're making,
and they're spending all this time to make content that
then you know, I can play for you know, a
few days, and then it goes into a vault and
maybe to never be seen again. So I kind of

(03:31):
wish they didn't do celebrity ones and they just had
DLC things. But what comes with this is that typically
they'll take a map that exists in the game, or
they'll always do this. They'll take a map that already
exists in the game, they'll dress it up in some
new way, change it up, change the theming limit areas,
not really ad areas, but kind of just change all
the decoration, different rooms, all the NPC locations. And so
for someone like me who's so invested in like, oh,

(03:53):
I know exactly where this one NPC walks in this
hotel second floor, you know, all of the things are
kind of switched up, and so it makes you have
to think on your feet a little. But some of
them have other weird attributes to them, and this new
eminem owe I'm not really an eminem guy. And I've
heard him a lot growing up because he was so
big when I was in middle school or whatever. Not
a huge fan of his music. I just don't really
listen to it personally. And maybe I would be a

(04:13):
fan if I went and checked that out. But I
think it was a fun concept they went with here
where Eminem is on your side, And maybe this is
a little bit light spoilers, but actually this whole mission
kind of takes place in Eminem's head and you're like
helping him. It's like a dream essentially, and you're helping
him to kill his evil alter ego of Slim Shady.
So your target in this is just slim Shady. This

(04:37):
mission takes one of my favorite maps, which is hook Iido,
the japan kind of hospital map, snowy hospital area, and
turns it into a bit of a like a concert area,
and repurposes all of the kind of doctor facilities, doctor's
offices and like guard buildings and like operation rooms, and

(04:58):
turns the into like a music studio where he's playing
like a live concert. But since it's like this weird,
demented version of slim Shady's mind in Eminem's mind, like
they're all still doctors and stuff, like they kind of
change their outfits around, but they're still doctors helping them
create like the perfect music or whatever it is. It's
like very goofy, very silly, and this one is really

(05:18):
really silly, and I like that for it because Hitman
is inherently quite silly. I don't think you realize facilly
it is if you just see a trailer or hear
people talk about it. But once you're actually playing it,
you kind of just see how goofy it is. People
slipping on banana peels and having shandeliers fall on them
and all this. And you know, I love Hokkaido, one
of my favorite maps in the game, and they've done
a ton to switch it up in here, just totally.

(05:41):
Like the one main area of the map hasn't changed
a whole lot, but even then they change like the
dining hall from like a fancy sushi restaurant to like
this kind of cheap o, like I don't know, essentially
like a mental hospital like cafeteria room, So they change
the whole vibe there. Some parts of this map don't
really get used at all, in like the top floor
of the facility. They just kind of blocked off completely,
but that main area, they change all the inside of it,

(06:03):
how you interact with it, the costumes you need to
get on, the different floors, and little details too, like
there's just this one thing that's typically a window, so
you just can't You can look through it, but you
can never go through it. They just turned it into
like a door here, so just as like this whole
other entry point of the map, which for me as
a nerd and super huge fan of this map in
this game, it's like that changes everything. If there's one
new way to walk into a building that normally takes

(06:24):
three to four minutes to traverse around it in the
opposite way. So love little details like that. And then
where it gets like super freaky is they've taken they've
a lot of the mirrors in the map, and sometimes
there was a mirror and now they've added one. But
even where there was a mirror already, they've turned those
into like portals where you can like shortcut across the
map and teleport through. And that's obviously because this is
not in the real world. It's in someone's dream mind,

(06:46):
so weird trippy things can happen like that. But I
really like that too, and it totally changes how you
navigate this map, and this map in general is one
that is pretty hard to navigate around because there's locked
doors that require certain costumes and things. But with this
version of it, like just totally change it up, so
really fun to navigate around the map. Good classic like
kill opportunities in here. I'm sure there's even some more

(07:08):
freaky ones. I didn't find it like a couple run
throughs of this, and I think one of my favorite
parts about it is that at one point, like the
trippy teleporting sequences, you teleport like a portion of another map.
It's like the basement and house generally of Wittlton Creek,
which is another one of my favorites, which to my knowledge,
is not something they've ever done before with any of
these special missions. Is like taking another section of another

(07:31):
map and fusing into one for one like cohesive experience,
And that's something I didn't know I wanted, and now
I just want that. I just didn't even think it
was possible, Like these maps are already so detailed and huge,
and I didn't think they could do this. I didn't
think they could just stitch two maps together. Now, of
course with the Wilton part, it's like a really small
part of it. You don't even see the outside, and
there's no NPCs in it, so I'm sure it's a
lot easier, but man, that's something that I would love

(07:51):
to see, just because once again the remix factor of it,
of taking these maps that I know and love and
know every last corner of them. Also, by the way,
when I was watching a stream of someone playing this,
they use two little shortcuts that are not new to
this elusive target, but are shortcuts I had never seen
on this map before, and that just blows my mind.
Because I've played through Japan, I don't know fifty with Freelancer,

(08:13):
probably like fifty times or more. This map, i've played
through it, and I just discovered two new pathways that
I'd never seen before. So that just blew my mind
as well, which this game always does. I'm always finding
crazy new stuff, so I love it. It's super fun.
It's hard to recommend because even if you're listening to
this like a couple of weeks from now, you might
not be able to play this mission anymore. And I
also feel like you get you know, obviously, if you're
being em and m fan maybe you'll just love this

(08:36):
mission for what it is, but if you haven't played
this game, I feel like so much of the value
I get out of these missions is seeing how they've
changed things from the default, and I've spent hundreds of
hours with that default stuff, so seeing the variations as meaningful,
whereas if you're jumping into this kind of cold or
just like, oh, I like Eminem, I've heard you talk
about Hitman before, Dylan. I maybe I'll check with this mission.

(08:56):
I'm sure you'll have good time, but I just don't
know if it'll be quite as many meaningful as it
feels for me. And obviously the time or lockout things
could also be really annoying for a new player. So
but at the same time, I feel like that's why
they do these things. I feel like that is why
they have these celebrity elusive targets like pull more people
into the game, get different audience and stuff. So I'm

(09:16):
not really sure who it's for, but it seems to
be working for them because they keep doing them. So Yeah,
it's been a good year of this, like this one.
Bruce Lee Schifra, you know, Mad's Michelson in there, so
some some and maybe even another one this year can't recall,
but overall like a pretty good year for a game
that's you know, kind of finished development so to speak,
like years ago, and you know, their new games coming

(09:37):
down in like a couple of months, so it's like
the fact that they're still doing really like this is
not just a cheap little skin pack that sounds like
really weird. I don't like the words cheap little skin
pack that I just use, but this is not that.
It's not just like buying eminem costume to use and
hit Man like. It is a really big change. The
unfortunate part again is just the limited nature of it,
but really fun, really glad they added it. Really cool,

(10:00):
and I don't know, it feels like the celebrities they
pick are not Dylan picks. They're not like Dylan nostalgia picks,
other than like, I guess Mad's Michelson. But even then,
it's not even for me like so much from a bond.
It's more just Mad's Michelson and who he is. But
I'm curious to see what the next one is. Hopefully
at some point they pick one that's like gonna blow
my mind in terms of I can't believe they got
this person that is super precious to me. But then

(10:23):
a lot of them also who have been canceled, So
maybe I don't want them to pick people that I
think I like right now, like don't pick Jack Black,
and then that means he gets canceled, Like that would
be the scariest thing ever. So uh yeah, that's I
think I'll have to say about the eminem DLC, and
then I think I'll jump right into Marvel tokon Fighting Souls.
Of course, this is the Arc system Works fighting game.

(10:44):
And actually, if you're watching with me on YouTube here,
I'll pull up some footage just to have going on
in the background. But yeah, this is the fighting game
from Arc system Works. So they do like what's it
called Guilty Gear and Dragon Ball Fighter z that kind
of stuff. This is a new fighting game. And as
I've talked about a lot in the past, like I'm

(11:05):
not a big traditional two D fighting game guy, I
signed up for this beta because I'm very curious about
this game and I want to see more. And I
did have a good time with it. I admittedly did
not play a lot, and I think part of that
is because compared to even just other fighting games like
I've played recently, like mostly Mortal Kombat, I guess, just
like with the GV boys on streams and stuff, this

(11:25):
game is really complicated. There's a lot going on in
terms of some of these systems, and like the tagging
system of you have four different characters, you unlock them
as the fight progresses, you don't actually have access to
all four, and like round one, I think you only
have access to two, and then like as the rounds progress,
you get like more that have kind of been recruited
to your team to help you out. And the weird

(11:45):
thing here that might surprise people and surprise me as well,
is that they all share one health pool. So it's
like it's not like you can use all of Captain
America then you switch to Miss Marvel blow through her
health pool and then go over to Doctor Doom or whatever. Like,
it just shares one. So if you're just super comfortable
with Captain America, I'd probably just stick with him, I guess.
But in theory, you want to get really good before

(12:06):
because then you have a ton of mix up potential.
You have more like combo potential because your characters will
do combo at text with each other. So that's also
a reason why you have multiple but it is a lot,
and so I think for that very reason, I didn't
really want to spend too much time going super in depth.
I did the full tatorial and then played a few matches,
but I just feel like it's not really worth it

(12:26):
right now for me to learn everything about this game
when I'm not going to play it again for a
few months. So that's kind of where I'm at now.
But I did have a good time with it. I
love the art style. I think one of my big
questions with this game is like what's going on with
the roster guys, Like we we've had eight characters announce
from the first trailer and we haven't had anymore since then.

(12:48):
That was like a few months ago, and they've had
a lot of other trailers and stuff, So who knows,
maybe a game awards and just a few short days
we'll finally get that. And I think for me that
actually is kind of the deciding factor at this point,
Like I really I like this game, but I'm also
terrible at it. Because I'm bad at fighting games like this,
it's gonna be a huge learning curve, so I know
it's not gonna be like, I'm not gonna buy this game,

(13:08):
download it, have it pre downloaded Thursday night at nine pm,
booted up, and have instant fun. Like It's gonna take
a while. It's gonna take practice, and I do depend
on when it releases unless it is like the same
day as GT six. I do want to do that,
but I also think that I would need there to
be a good amount more characters in the game for
me to do that, because I think part of the
fun for me is just seen my favorite Marvel characters

(13:30):
and these weird new get ups that they have, you know,
Captain America with a strange vest situation going on Trive,
these different characters, see the different play styles, and really
just see where it goes. And so I think for me,
I need a bigger roster to sell me on this,
and so I know it will have a bigger roster
than eight, but especially when you have to pick a
team of four, like I want to make sure there's
at least four characters that I am in love with

(13:51):
in this game, and I don't know. I'm sure even
with the eight that they have now, I could probably
find that Captain America always fun. He's just a simple
character and like Envy game Ultimate Alliance Avengers, like he's
just a simple character and is fun. I of course
like Storm as I usually do. I think Doctor Doom
was my favorite in here. I just I just found

(14:12):
moving around with him, his powers, his combos seem to
work the best for me, I've had the most success.
And I also really liked Ghostwriter, which I'm sure Taylor
will be happy to hear. He has some just amazing
animations and crazy finishers like bringing out the car and
stuff like that. But then he's seems like a bit
of like a grappler type, and then he's got like
kind of a lot of the mid range with using

(14:33):
like chain chain attacks. Then he has like his grabs
seem to work really well for me. I was playing
against the Captain America, who's just you know, blocking all
day long, but I could just come in here with
my chain grab him, chuck him around and that worked
really well. And the Miss Marvel also a character that's
just fun in any video games. She's always in Ultimate
Alliance Avengers again, like whatever it is, she's always a
good time. So yeah, I think I need to see

(14:55):
pretty big, like probably a roster of at least over
twenty characters, which I don't know if they haven't announced
any others since like the initial announcement, I don't know
how likely or unlikely that is. We'll just have to
wait and see. But yeah, I do I did have
a good time with this game, cool mechanics. I feel
like I cannot break it down on a super deep
level in comparing it to other two D fighters just

(15:17):
because I'm not it's not my genre. I'm not an
expert in that space, but I think for me, it's
the combination of the art style, it's the Marvel stuff,
it's uh yeah, just art system works. And I've I
have played some Guilty Gear Strive really liked that game.
It's cool. I haven't played Dragon Ball Fighters Z, but
I just, you know, people have talked about how these
are kind of the best, some of the best fighting
games on the market right now. Obviously you have your

(15:38):
Mortal Kombat ones, you have your Street Fighter sixes, but
I feel like they're carving out like a different niche
and this just feels like a huge jump up for
this team, and so I'm curious to see what goes
on there. So yeah, hopefully, I you know, can talk
about this game a bit more in a few days
of the Game Awards. If they have a new trailer
with a new character or two, that would be fun.
If not, they do are they do continue to confirm

this twenty twenty six release date, so it should be
coming out pretty soon because we're almost into that new
that very new year. So yeah, I'll keep an eye
on this one, and I think maybe at this point
in time, I can jump to a little bit of

him up, which, again just Like marvel token like not

my genre, generally BUT i Loved Shredder's, revenge AND i
don't THINK i would have checked that out just on my,
own but at the TIME i was a Game pass.
Subscriber it was on Game. PASS i love the art, styles, like,
yah let me check this. Out AND i plicked through
the whole game freaking loved. It played in some single,
player played some, multiplayer and it was, like oh my,
GOD i THINK i have. POTENTIAL i have room in

my heart to love a beat them up game like
this has not ever been my. Genre i've played it
a ton of them in my, life of, course especially
in like arcades and. Stuff but, yeah it's just not
usually my, bag, baby And i've came to found With
Shudders revenge THAT i think there is a way to
make it. Happen part of it is some of those
gorgeous picks Alart i've ever seen in my, life but
ALSO i think just more fun character move, sets good interesting,

mechanics good level, design good boss, design AND i think
just like little rewards along the way to keep things
interesting and. FRESH i think the right difficulty level as
well also the right yeah amount of like things to
collect and, do like little bonus, objectives just like the
right amount of all that kind of stuff that doesn't
make it feel. Overwhelming and, again they have totally nailed

it here BECAUSE i picked Up Cosmic invasion and have
now beat the GAME i. PLAYED i played through the
whole campaign of, it WHICH i think is like around fifteen,
missions AND i love this. GAME i had a super
great time with this. One, AGAIN i just love that
this team is able to create beat them ups THAT
i can enjoy because this is like a whole news
genre for me in a. Way AND i think there's

(20:01):
probably some other good ones out there THAT i should check,
out but, YEAH i think this one for, me the
big selling point on it again was just the developer's last,
work but also The marvel side of. It i'm a
Big marvel, fan AND i love the roster they have
for this, one right because they have the usual. Suspects
they have Your Captain america's Or wolverine Or Spider, man's
but then they have like all the freak shows in there.
Too they Have, nova they Have Phi LAVEL i don't

(20:24):
know If i'm pronouncing that. Right they Have, phoenix which
is not a freak, show but she just doesn't often
make it into these. Games rocket Without, grow WHICH i
think is always fun to, see and you know venoms
in there is like another. One you Get Silver, surfer
who's kind of a rare. Character does he play playable
in games like? This and so, far like every character is.
Fun of, COURSE i do have my. FAVORITES i don't
think there's really been a character THAT i dislike at this.

(20:47):
Point Maybe i'm BECAUSE i was about to, say Even
beta Ray, bill who's another, yeah weird. Pick they don't
Have thorn, here they Have beta Ray. Bill he's kind of,
slower a bit, clunkier BUT i really like his like
he throws his mule in or, equivalent his acts out
and then rather than just immediately zipping back to, it
just like floats in mid air like spins, around so
you can almost like put it out there as like
a little trap for enemies to walk, into and then

(21:09):
you just like fist fight until you call it back to.
You so he has a fun move set as. Well, yeah,
again this game is, gorgeous looks. AMAZING i think it
for me has a good amount of, difficulty where there
was probably in the like fifteen mission. CAMPAIGN i think
there's maybe four or five in, missions like almost a
third of the. Game it required me to like try
the levels multiple, times some of. THEM i think the

(21:32):
most one took me was like four. ATTEMPTS i think
the last LEVEL i beat on my first, try which is.
Funny you think that's usually like the hardest, thing but
maybe they wanted that to be a bit more of
a layup and close the game out. Strong but there's
a couple missions that were really. Tricky and you, know
this game compared to BECAUSE i don't remember this In Treader's,
revenge but you do level up your characters that each
have ten levels, possible and there isn't like some big

(21:54):
skill tree or anything like. That more so it's just you,
know you get LIKE hp, upgrades you get like passive upgrade,
raids uh get like a costume at their maximum, level
so just little boosts to their. CHARACTERS i don't know
how much the hpup greeds, are like if it's five,
percent ten, percent twenty five, percent like if it's some
big amount or small. Amount but it definitely felt, Like,
okay even IF i failed a mission BECAUSE i was leveling,

(22:16):
UP i wasn't really that pissed BECAUSE i got like
two level. Ups so even IF i redo the mission
with the same, Characters, okay well NOW i have MORE,
HP i have better, stats so it'll probably be easier
next time. AROUND i don't feel Like i'll waste my.
Time and also the mission's like at worst or not
worse at. Long the longest is like ten minutes, long
something like, that ten fifteen maybe if you're going super
slow through. It and so, yeah even if you lose

(22:38):
at minute, seven it's not like losing a fire emblem.
Mission after hour two point, five you, know like it's
not too bad at. All and then, yeah you're getting
you're getting those. Upgrades and then also each mission has bonus,
objectives so there's like a collectible defined sometimes, multiple and
then three bonus. Objectives usually it's like With Captain, america
get five kills with your shield or or With Black

(23:01):
panther hit ten people with your ultimate, ability whatever it.
Is and then usually there's one tied to the level,
specifically like don't get hit by The galactus's beams in
this one level at. All and so even if you
get one of those objectives and then fail the, mission
you'll still get that. Objective so someone's, Like, OKAY i
got My Black panther, objective it's not gonna back. Out
i'm gonna switch to a character that's higher level to

(23:22):
help me be this. Level i'll Keep Captain america in
BECAUSE i haven't got his mission, Yet and so you
can kind of switch things around in that way. Too
you're not locked into which characters to play each, level
although each mission has like a little cut scene that
leads into, it and it does have Like Silver surfer
And Rocket raccoon are like narrating what they're about to go,
do so it just like breaks it a little bit

(23:42):
narratively if you you, know switch to other. Characters but
everyone every level does recommend here's the two characters you
should play for, this but there's absolutely no downside if you.
Don't and THEN i like that the final mission doesn't have.
That it just, says, hey whoever your favorites are at this,
point to go take down an, nihilist like go for,
It like that's that's kind of what you're supposed to
at this, point so really like. That and, yeah because

(24:03):
it's only fifteen AS i, mentioned like fifteen ish missions
and you, know ten ish, long ten ish minutes long,
Missions like that's not a super long. Game but for,
me it is pretty. Replayable even after beating. IT i
immediately went back readed the first few levels to get
the bonus OBJECTIVES i did in the first. TIME i
want to at least get all the characters to level.
TEN i want to get all their. Costumes their costumes

(24:24):
aren't actually they're all palette. Swaps but even with, that
