(02:37):
the last time the United States was truly united, in
my opinion, was after the devastating terrorist attack on September eleventh,
two thousand and one, and to some extent, the world
itself was united against terrorism. But now the United States
(02:57):
is a misnomer. It really should be renamed the Divided
States of America because it's become the most divided I've
seen in my entire fifty seven years of life. Politics
has become so partisan that just because you disagree with somebody,
you're immediately cast aside, you're immediately wrong, and you're called
(03:19):
a liar, or that you're being misled for having your
own opinion. And this is on both sides of the aisle.
I mean, I don't care Democrats and Republicans, all of
you are scumbags. All you politicians get sucked into the
swamp filled with that same scumbag sludge. And worse yet,
you're infecting the minds of the next generation of young
(03:41):
people to never admit that they're wrong, and that if
someone disagrees with you now they are your enemy. In fact,
you can just be having a conversation with some longtime
friends or acquaintances and you're at a nice dinner party.
You're all having fun, and then one person starts talking
(04:02):
one sided politics, and then you start realizing, as you
kind of silently say to yourself, huh, well, I guess
because I have a different viewpoint. I'm the one you
love to hate.
Speaker 7 (04:36):
You made I lack a few shot where I had
a fat jack.
Speaker 6 (04:41):
Well take you too, and I'm killing.

You're listening to gen X Rock Hidden Treasures with DJ
Hollywood on ninety nine point one FM KBP, Long Beach, California.
And that was a song called the One You Love
to Hate by Halford, taking off of his debut album
Resurrection from two thousand and This album now celebrates its
(07:45):
twenty fifth anniversary of its release. And during that song,
yes you heard correctly, that song featured both Rob Halford
and Bruce Dickinson, the lead singer for Iron Maiden. And
speaking of Iron Maiden, next week, I have a very
special show because I interviewed the author of a brand
(08:09):
new book called Iron Maiden at fifty The author his
name is Daniel Buckspan, and it was a really cool interview.
I think when you listen to the show, you're gonna
hear some really cool things about this book Iron Maiden
at fifty as well as interspersed in between the talk
segments interview segments, you're gonna hear some really cool deep cuts,
(08:31):
some that Daniel Buckspan has chosen and some that I
chose as well. So look for that show is gonna
be released on Monday, September the fifteenth, All Iron Maiden
for that entire show. Now it's time for my special
Canadian gen X Rock Triple Shot dedicated to Canada, Dan McCracken,
(08:51):
the world famous Canada Dan. All right, Canada, Dan, I
got three songs for you from Canadian artists, and you're
probably sitting there just thinking, hmmm, which ones he's gonna choose?
And I know you got your your wheels are turning
and you're trying to figure out, Okay, he's probably gonna
choose this band or this artist whatever. Okay, let's go
ahead and start off the Canadian gen X Rock Triple
(09:14):
Shot with the Metal Queen herself, Lee Aaron, And you're
listing to gen X Rock Hidden Treasures right here on KLBP,
Long Beach, California.

every Monday night on night Boy one f M KLBP.
And if you'd like to hear a playlist of all
the songs that I've ever played on this radio show,
just go ahead and click the link in the show description,
or do a Google search for gen X Rock Hidden
Treasures Spotify playlist and then that way you can save
(14:14):
that playlist to your Spotify library in order to enjoy
all those tracks in the future. And that was a
song called Metal Queen by Lee Aaron and that was
the title track off of her album from nineteen eighty four.
And I guarantee you, Canada, Dan, I'm talking to you, Canada, Dan.
I guarantee you that Dirty Jim hated that slow down
(14:35):
bridge because why Canada Dan knows? Because it messed with
the flow of the song. Dirty hit Jim hates with
the flow of the song is just kind of messed
up by a slow down bridge. Anyway, cool track. Now
we have another Canadian artist here up next, Who's it
(14:57):
gonna be? I have chosen Triumph.
Speaker 7 (15:03):
Now.
Speaker 1 (15:04):
Triumph obviously is a legendary band in Canada. They're kind
of just a step below Rush. But what song am
I gonna play? Is it possible that there was a
song or an album that did not feature Rick Emmett.
Speaker 10 (15:24):
There was.
Speaker 1 (15:25):
Here's a track from Triumph off the album Edge of
Excess called Troublemaker. And you're listening to gen X Rock
Hidden Treasures. You're home for all that's hard and heavy.
Speaker 6 (16:03):
Nine its well, but I listen to it races here.
Speaker 10 (16:12):
Times abs design man, she just say.
Speaker 6 (16:24):

Speaker 9 (17:14):

Speaker 6 (18:32):
I must be by.
Speaker 9 (18:43):
The Times, say.
Speaker 5 (19:38):
Dude, total banger of a track.
Speaker 1 (19:40):
My name is Hollywood, And you're listening to gen X
Rock Hidden Treasures right here, on nine to nine point
one f m KBP playing those rarely heard songs that
deserve to be heard, and that was a song that's
rarely heard and it deserved to be heard on the
Canadian gen X Rock Triple Shot. That was a song
called Troublemaker by Triumph off of their nineteen ninety two
(20:02):
release Edge of Excess. It was their tenth and final
studio album, and on lead vocals was drummer and lead
vocalist Gil Moore. That's not unusual because gil Moore sang
on plenty of songs throughout the entire career of Triumph
along with co lead vocalist Rick Emmett. But Rick Emmett
(20:22):
left the band in nineteen eighty eight, and so they
did one final album without Rick Emmett, and that was
this album, Edge of Excess. They recruited Gil Moore and
the band they recruited Phil X as their new guitar player.
And Phil X for you guys who don't know of
this guy, he is the guitar player for bon Jovi
(20:46):
and he's been the guitar player for bon Jovi since
like twenty thirteen, and he also has his own solo
career with a number of solo albums from Phil X
and the Drills, and man, this guy is just an
amazing guitar player. He's amazing singer songwriter. I love some
of his solo stuff. It's really cool. But on this
(21:06):
album right here, this song Troublemaker. Wow, what a heavy,
heavy song. I think it's one of the heaviest triumph
songs I've ever heard and I love it. Okay, how
are we going to end the Canadian gen X Rock
triple shot. I'm thinking of Canada Dan, and I'm you know,
and I know that Canada Dan.
Speaker 5 (21:30):
Loves it raw.
Speaker 1 (21:31):
Now, don't take it that way. He loves raw music.
The music just being raw and the production qualities is
kind of off. It's not you know, it's not slick
and produced. So I chose a band that was one
of the four runners of thrash metal music and they
(21:53):
came from Canada. I'm talking about the band Exciter, and
I'm taking a track from their debut album Heavy Metal
Maniac from nineteen eighty three. This is a song called
Evil Sinner All for you Canada Dan. Right here on KLBP.
Speaker 10 (23:20):
To lot So to Do Nights, What a lot of
class of friends, Sis some bents of lights and I
want to enough a man to side to held.
Speaker 6 (23:37):

Speaker 10 (23:41):
So sup suttu sat to reminds a lot of side.
Speaker 6 (24:08):

Speaker 9 (24:08):

Speaker 6 (24:20):
Tonight, Snio set up.
Speaker 9 (24:34):

Speaker 8 (24:51):
S so now it's nice.
Speaker 9 (25:35):

Speaker 10 (25:39):
Some sum were something at the sill fly style.
Speaker 9 (25:55):
Times dayo.
Speaker 6 (26:07):
Sen aabo, sena aabo, Santa.
Speaker 9 (26:18):
A San.
Speaker 1 (26:39):
Yes, this is KBP ninety nine point one FM where
(27:09):
every Monday night at nine pm you can hear hard
and heavy rock and metal deep cuts like you've been
hearing tonight. And that was the final track of the
Canadian gen X Rock Triple shot right here on gen
X Rock Hidden Treasures. That was a song called Evil
Center by Exciter. And I think before the song I
said that the that it came from Heavy Metal Maniac
(27:30):
the debut album. It actually came from Violence and Force
from nineteen eighty four on their second album. And I
had both both vinyl records. But see what happens when
you know you don't look stuff up. I was just
kind of winging it a lot of times. I just
wing this stuff because I just have all this useless
knowledge in my head, you know, all these facts and
(27:52):
figures from bands and artists and musicians and stuff from
the seventies and eighties and stuff like that. But anyway,
there you go. I made a mistake. So it's Violence
and Force from nineteen eighty four. And lead singer on
that is Dan Biehler. He is the drummer and lead
singer for the band Excier, and so I hope you
enjoyed that Canada. Dan not only that band Exciter, but
(28:14):
also the track from Lee Aaron and Triumph. Now it's
time for the Ozzie Forever segment of the show.
Speaker 12 (28:33):
Breaking news from the world of entertainment, we have received
word that music legend Ozzy Osbourne has died. Osbourne, as
you know, pioneered heavy metal music with Black Sabbath before
going on to have huge success in his own right.
He was known for hits including Iron Man, Paranoid Warpigs,
Crazy Train, of Course, and Bark at the Moon, both
(28:55):
with the band and as a solo star. His death
comes just weeks after re nighting with his Black Sabbath
bandmates and performing a massive farewell concert for fans in
his hometown of Birmingham, England. He had been diagnosed with
Parkinson's disease in twenty nineteen, and in a statement, his
family said that he was surrounded by love. When he passed,
(29:19):
Ozzy Osbourne was seventy six years old.
Speaker 1 (29:23):
This is where I delve into Ozzie's Sabbath catalog and
his own solo albums, as well as sometimes he does
guest appearances with other bands and artists, And that way
I could find some deep cuts and hidden treasures that
I really enjoy. So right now you're already hearing behind me.
You're already hearing the acoustic guitar intro. So the Ozzie
(29:43):
Forever track of the show is Spiral Architect, and you're
listening to Genit Rock Hidden Treasures with DJ Hollywood.
Speaker 6 (30:28):
So Stros of Madness telege the side child's thoughts. Thing

You know that I shut. It's not a nia You're
not a Nusia.
Speaker 5 (34:20):
My name is Hollywood.
Speaker 1 (34:22):
And that was the Ozzy Forever track of the show,
and that was a song called Spiral Architect taking off
of their fifth album, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, which they released
back in nineteen seventy three, and Ozzie's vocals are great
on this song. I think the album Sabbath, Bloody Sabbath
and Sabotage are some of my favorite albums with Ozzy's vocals.
(34:42):
He just he had us arrange and he had this
high pitched tone on those albums as well as the
melody lines. The vocal melodies that he came up with
were just fantastic. And then the song structure on these
songs were amazing. And this song particular full orchestra and
(35:02):
you'll look at Geezer Butler's lyrics. Come on, he was
so instrumental in the Sabbath sound, you know, coming up
with these lyrics. Just listen to the first verse. Geezer
Butler wrote this Sorcerers of madness selling me their time,
child of God sitting in the sun keeping peace of mind.
(35:25):
Fictional seduction on a black snow sky. Sadness kills the Superman,
even father's cry.
Speaker 5 (35:34):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (35:35):
Now, I don't know if he was on massive drugs
when he was writing this particular song.
Speaker 5 (35:39):
Obviously he was on massive drugs.
Speaker 6 (35:42):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (35:42):
That's well documented by Geezer, the band, Ozzie and and
everybody else. But wow, what an amazing lyrical song. This
song is a spiral architect and that was the Ozzie
Forever track of the show. And you're listening to hard
and heavy rock right here on I I we won

And that was a song called Killers and Kings by
Machinehead and that was taken off of their eighth album
entitled Bloodstone and Diamonds, released back in twenty fourteen. And
this album was met with universal acclaim by music critics,
with dom laws and of the Guardian, writing this quote
(40:54):
striking an exquisite balance between brute force, insistent melody and
bold experimentation. This is the finest mainstream metal album of
twenty fourteen by a huge margin end quote. In fact,
in the first week of this album being released, they
debuted at number twenty one on the Billboard two hundred chart,
becoming the band's highest charting album ever. So that was
