Speaker 1 (00:02):
And now Damage Infringement.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
Welcome everybody to the Gimmick Infringement Podcast. I am Brad
Winchester with me as always as my tag team partner
Tyler McDowell, Blank and Tyler.
Speaker 1 (00:15):
My voice is at like eighty percent.
Speaker 2 (00:17):
I am exhausted from a long, busy wrestling Saturday, but
so thankful it's not on a wrestling Sunday.
Speaker 1 (00:25):
How you doing today?
Speaker 3 (00:26):
Your voice is almost there. I'm doing well in there
because again I'm grateful today, Brad, like you said, there
was a really really busy wrestling weekend. We're talking WWE
wrestled Palooza aw all out.
Speaker 1 (00:38):
You know.
Speaker 3 (00:38):
We're going to discuss the latest and pop culture, including
the return of The Golden Bachelor. It's already time season
two returns or debuts, I should say on Wednesday. We
even have a Sunday when you have kids, so we're
gonna get some frey of time in this episode as well.
I can't wait for the conversations ahead.
Speaker 2 (00:55):
How you've been doing really well? I'm ready for the weekend, Like,
oh wow, yeah, I'm ready.
Speaker 3 (01:02):
I'm already so tired. I'm trying weekend heading into fall break.
Speaker 2 (01:05):
Okay, I got yeah, Well, I'm starting, you know, we'll
go back tomorrow. I will be ready then for the weekend.
I have a very busy week coming up at work.
There is the NHS induction stuff that we're prepping for.
We have an ambassador day for my CTE kids. They're
going to be out. We had to get ready to
bring stuff with. And before it used to be a
pretty easy problem to solve. Let's get some stuff together.
(01:26):
You'll bring it with, bring the materials, talk about what
we're doing, talk about what you're doing. But I have
to do that in two programs this year, so I
have to get both of them ready. What are you bringing,
what are you bringing, what are you going to talk about?
How do you promote the program because it's it's going
to be with business partners in the community, and they're
gonna be the ones looking at all the tables and
booths and what the kids are doing. So trying to
(01:47):
be purposeful about that while also teaching, you know, three
different preps. Technically, if I want to break it down,
I was thinking about it the other day, I actually
have five different preps to plan for if I really
wanted to to break it out like that, because I
have three levels of stagecraft in the same classes, so
it's a it's a lot, and then of course we
(02:08):
have the meetings and whatnot, and then just life. I'm
also in a class and things are things are wacky.
So yeah, I'm ready for next weekend.
Speaker 3 (02:17):
That tracks completely. I'm so proud of you man like this. A.
It's surreal to believe that we're almost a quarter of
the way done through the school year. It's coming up.
And then B as you pointed out, I've never been
more aware of time than when I've been a teacher.
Speaker 1 (02:36):
Yep.
Speaker 3 (02:36):
They're just you're always seeking to best utilize the time
you have while also yearning for more of it. And
there's just an acceptance I think a lot of us
have to come to terms with. I've accepted that there's
never going to be enough time to do all the things,
to get everything done. But I'm just going to try
to be intentional give my best, Like you said, especially
(02:57):
you heading into a busy week with not only class,
but you know, events and then your own life and
your own family. That's the key is we just try
to do our best every day and and trust that
you know it's going to lead to two great things.
But like you said, there there's just never enough time.
And you and I spoke off heir Brad during the week. Sadly, tragically,
(03:21):
someone close to me unexpectedly passed away. One of my
mom's best friends, Jeanie Williams, a woman who was like
a second mom to me. I grew up with her son,
and she woke up this past week and wasn't feeling well,
said her stomach was hurting, goes to the hospital and
then she's gone later that day. So also with any job,
(03:46):
our particular context of being educators, when you can just
get so locked in on what needs to get done
the day to day, like you said, the meetings, the emails,
the lesson plans, the grating, all the things that need
to happen to ensure that that we continue forward, it
can be easy to lose sight of all the amazing
people and opportunities that are in our lives. So I
(04:10):
know I felt that this week, like you, just trying
to organize my calendar and see the path toward toward
fall break, which we're all looking for, while also not
losing sight of as you pointed out to me this week,
you know, reaching out to the people you care about
and you love, not for any other reason than just
to check in with them and remind them how much
they mean to you, because tomorrow is just simply not promised.
(04:34):
It's just not This past week was a reminder of me.
It was a reminder to me of just that, because
this life thing is precious, man, and we just never
know when it's our time or anyone we care about,
you know, the pets in our lives, the people in
our lives. It's just this thing is so fragile. And
this past week was a reminder to me of just maximize,
(04:56):
like you said during our production meeting, maximizing your minutes
and just making sure people know you know how much
you love them, because, as evidenced by Genie's passing, you
just you just you just don't know, you just you know,
I'll see them during Thanksgiving, I'll see them during Christmas
or you just I mean hopefully, yeah, that's the plan,
but maybe reach out to them before then.
Speaker 2 (05:18):
Yeah, well said. And certainly I've said this to you privately,
but you know you've been in my thoughts a lot
this week, you and your family, and and certainly thinking
of you and and Genie and Jeanie's family.
Speaker 1 (05:30):
Uh, it's it's tough, man like, it's it's funny.
Speaker 2 (05:34):
Somebody talked about why I got into teaching this week,
and they were like, oh, I was inspired by this
teacher and I told them about my story about Doug
Fix and uh, you know, tying it to wrestling. Dude
was jacked and had handlebar mustache and a ponytail. He
just looked like Aul Cogan, triathlete, Vietnam vet. Huge poet
(05:56):
was laid to his own wedding because he saw a
field of daisies along the way and had to get
them because it was his wife's favorite flowers.
Speaker 1 (06:04):
She was at the altar. Everybody's like, where is this dude.
Speaker 2 (06:06):
He's like super late, shout out to Anne. And he
walked in covered in pauland holding on to these daisies,
which is like one of the most romantic things in
the world. But when you hear like super jack, dude
looked like Hulcoke and Vietnam veteran. It's not exactly a
guy who stops to get daisies, is what I'm thinking of. Well, anyway,
when I started student teaching, I decided I want to
(06:28):
go pick his brain I want to teach the things
they carried because I'm teaching junior lit American Lit. And
he was, you know, he had a great lesson every
day for that and it just you know, used his
own passion. And I was one of some pointers and
maybe some some materials, and I was like, I'm too tired.
Speaker 1 (06:44):
I can't do this. I'll do it next weekend.
Speaker 2 (06:46):
He was in the race against tobacco to raise money
to pass the law that ultimately got passed to just
allow cigarettes and restaurants in Michigan, which I think is
like everywhere now. But I think he was either sick
or he hyper saturated or what is it called hyperhydrated
(07:08):
or something, but he had a like flu like symptoms.
But he was like, no, I'm committed to this race.
I'm going to do it. And he collapsed in the
middle of it. Turned out he was having a heart
attack and he just had a massive heart attack and died.
And it was one of my regrets, one of my
bigger regrets was just being too lazy to not go
and say hi and meet up with him instead. I
(07:30):
lost my opportunity and I never got to connect with
him and tell him how much he meant to me, and.
Speaker 1 (07:34):
It's bugged me forever. But I can't do.
Speaker 2 (07:37):
Anything about it but try to honor his legacy and
appreciate people that are in my life while I have them.
So it's tough. I think the fragility of life has
been in the cultural zeitgeist in the last couple of weeks,
especially for a variety of reasons. And fortunately, I think
(07:57):
good thing is that I think we'll appreciate what we
have a little bit more for while the bad thing
is is I don't necessarily see a clear end culturally
for us having to constantly be appreciative of what we have.
Speaker 1 (08:10):
So hopefully I'm wrong.
Speaker 2 (08:11):
Hopefully I'm just being super pessimistic, but I have data, Tyler,
So hug your loved ones, tell people in your life
you appreciate them, and just be kind to each other.
Speaker 1 (08:24):
That's it.
Speaker 3 (08:24):
It's pretty simple recipe, exactly that well, and thank you
for your thoughts and your kind words. Brad, speaking of data,
Speaking of statistics, Brad Winches, So we are going to
start our wrestling conversation with what is a high note
for me? We sort of teased this a week ago,
we put it out into the ether, but now it's
(08:46):
actually happened. It's come true. Let's start with the two
most important words on this yere podcast, give me infringement.
It's time for Steph Watch. That was so seamless. This
is going to be the best step Watch to date. Brad,
you know what time it is.
Speaker 1 (09:04):
She did it.
Speaker 3 (09:05):
Three championships in less than a year, the journey that
the prophecy has been fulfilled. Stephanie Baker defeated Eo Sky
at www Wressel Palooza to become the new is it
raw Women's Champion?
Speaker 1 (09:20):
I don't know, I don't I don't think so, I
don't know if.
Speaker 3 (09:25):
It's world championship. Yeah, women the women's world title on
Monday Nights, previously held by Naomi. We know that Naomi
and Jimmy Usso are expecting. Naomi dropped the title a
few weeks ago, and this match was set up finally,
a decisive bout between these two two of the best,
not just women's wrestlers, Brad, but two of the best
(09:46):
wrestlers on the planets. Eosky Stephanie Baker. Last week on
the podcast, I said it is Steph's time. This is
a must win situation, and she got the job done, Brad,
I said this earlier. Three titles in less than a
year if you include her run in NXT as NXT
Women's Champion, NXT Women's North American Champion, which he held,
(10:07):
might I remind you simultaneously and now here we are
less than a year and she is a champion on
Monday Night, Raw Brad Winchester. It's Steph's world and we
are blessed to live in it. This made me so happy.
She is undeniable and this is again by far, my
favorite edition of Steph Watch Today. The prophecy is fulfilled.
(10:29):
Let's go.
Speaker 2 (10:30):
The w W Women's Championship is Tiffany Stratton. The Women's
World Championship is Stephanie va Quare.
Speaker 1 (10:40):
It was awesome. I love this. She busted out that finisher,
the spiral tap, the spiral tap hit it perfectly two
K esque.
Speaker 3 (10:51):
Was it not?
Speaker 1 (10:52):
Yeah? Well, I was like, isn't that?
Speaker 2 (10:54):
Isn't that a black arrow? But that was my first thought.
I was like, what in the pack was that?
Speaker 3 (11:00):
She on special occasions?
Speaker 2 (11:01):
But it was but it looked incredible seeing her hit
that was so dope. Uh, this is a really fun match.
Both these women rule. I think it was time. It
was time and seeing her get really emotional in the
moment and then bow low for EO. You know, that
wasn't scripted. That was a thing that happened, but it
(11:21):
was probably a hug hug. It out in the ring
situation at the end was always planned. But this was
this was really cool. I I really liked that. I
love that her her father got to see it in attendance.
Was it was it this one or I know where
her father had never seen her wrestle in person. I
think this was the first time that he saw her
(11:42):
and it was when she won arguably the biggest women's
prize in the world. It's that that yes, for for me,
that was the part. That was the part. It wasn't
just because she's awesome and I love watching her perform
and she's an incredible talent and all that. That's that's
part of it. Because I could say the same exact
words about Yo Sky. Being able to see Stephanie Winn
(12:05):
in front of in front of family was really cool.
And they did it at a huge event, the event
that was being gassed up. It was the premiere event
on ESPN. Pretty pretty cool. So we can talk about
it more, but we may as well get into it. Tyler,
we should talk to WWE and get into Wrestle Paloza
(12:29):
a little bit.
Speaker 1 (12:29):
Now. I have a question for you, but I can
save it for later. Tyler, what did you think of
the card going into Wrestle Palooza.
Speaker 3 (12:40):
Yeah, I thought it was best case scenario for where
we were at. Obviously, if we look at I'm just
realizing now that I think I heard the other day,
we only have one hundred and something days left in
the year of twenty five, which is also very surreal
if we think about the other premium live events that
we've seen this year, namely Evolution for example, probably my
(13:01):
favorite show of the year for WWE. Some of the
premium live events have received a lot of care and
a lot of build, and others, sadly, namely Evolution, have not.
Now mind you, Evolution ended up being a phenomenal show,
so build be damned. It worked out well there, I
thought for Russell Palooza, how even this came together like
a lot of the previous pls very quickly. Brad, you
(13:23):
and I thought the ESPN era for w W was
going to start in twenty twenty six because that's what
was initially presented, but we'll talk about the other wrestling
event that happened that same day. Obviously this was fast tracked.
One may argue to compete against the competition aw all out.
Someone else could argue, Hey, why not just get it
started right now? We want to so on and so forth.
(13:44):
But given that this seemed to be fast tracked, really
strong card. If we're only looking at five matches, which
is the WWEA for these bigger shows, you're going to
have a John Cena match. I have no interest in
watching brock Lesner in twenty twenty five. I understand that's
sort of my own personal proclivity, but for many fans
(14:05):
he's still to draw, especially if we're looking at this
is the first event, this is the inaugural pl On
under the ESPN umbrella. Brock Lesner is a name that
transcends for fans combat sports, MMA, NFL. I mean he
is a household name. There's only one brock Lesner. I
do agree that when his entrance plays and he emerges
inside an arena, there is just a completely different feeling
(14:28):
than probably any other wrestler in the history of the sport.
So I undertood his value. I just have no interest
in watching that man wrestle anymore. But you start the
show with Lesner versus Sina, and even that being one
of the marquee matches on the poster, that's solid. The
vision and the usos. You mentioned the incredible Vaca versus Sky.
(14:49):
What should have been the main event, in my opinion,
the mixed tag match, seam punkin aj Lee's return to wrestling,
which we documented last week versus Seth Rollins, and Becky
Lynch's tremendous Tody Rhods versus Drew McIntyre. I'm a big
fan of both of these guys. You know, My love
for Drew McIntyre as a performer runs runs, you know,
(15:10):
incredibly deep. But that match being the main event I
thought was curious. I understand the appeal of having a
title match be your main event, and what to better
guys to have in an athletic contest, but when I'm
ranking these matches that I was interested in Steph versus EO,
and then certainly the inter gender match was of much
(15:30):
more interest for me. So overall, if we're grading the
card itself, I thought this was a very strong effort
particularly given that you're trying to market perhaps to new
fans or laps fans while satisfying your current ww universe.
So top to bottom incredibly strong, and I mean, my goodness,
if you're gonna have Steph versus EO and then A J.
Lee's return to the ring after a decade, that's hard
(15:55):
to argue against. What's so you?
Speaker 2 (15:57):
Yeah, I feel the same way. I thought they built
this out and booked it really well. You have Brock Lesner,
I don't even want to say wrestling John Cena committee
to murder. Who's an eight minute and fifty second squash.
Sena got in some stuff, he hit He hit Lesner
with three AA's and uh, Lesler just.
Speaker 1 (16:16):
Sort of got up. We've seen this before, Yeah, And
I was like, this is just what's the point All
these people are here for wrestl Palooza to watch.
Speaker 2 (16:24):
I guess it's the shock a bit. I don't really
know what this does. If that was supposed to be
the final match? Are we just doing the CM punk
thing that that he did in aw where it was
like I can't get over this hump and then he's
gonna come out P and V and finally get over
the hump.
Speaker 1 (16:38):
It's just like this old I don't know. I didn't
like it.
Speaker 2 (16:40):
At wrestl Palooza, we're gonna kick off that era and
have all these fans in attendance, and we're gonna start
with John Cena being killed in the shortest match on
the card. I didn't love it, however, the fact that
it made me feel anything at all mostly discussed.
Speaker 1 (16:59):
Uh, I guess that's.
Speaker 2 (17:01):
What they go for. But to have that go into
a tag match which was seventeen minutes long with a
forty five minute entrance, I think having it go from
one singles thing that was kind of a squash to
a tag match, to the women's title, to a mixed
tag match and the return of a beloved wrestler, and
(17:21):
then into the main event title, which ended up being
kind of like a hardcore match, not really, but like
there were tables involved and stuff. But you get a
little bit of flavor from everything, and I thought that, well,
not black people being represented, but you get a little
flavor from almost everything on this card, And I thought
they booked it in an order that made a lot
(17:42):
of sense. There was just so much downtime, so much
time just waiting for things to happen.
Speaker 1 (17:51):
That's WWE. That's what they do.
Speaker 2 (17:53):
They put on a spectacle, they make it look really cool,
and then we get three minutes of action.
Speaker 1 (17:57):
It's like watching an NFL game.
Speaker 2 (17:58):
I love the NFL, you know, like if you look
at actual time of play, it's it's something like ten
minutes or something crazy where people are actually sprinting and
doing that, and the rest of it is.
Speaker 3 (18:10):
Just you're going to get these little Caesars ads whether
you whether.
Speaker 1 (18:14):
You like it or not. Yep, Like I was thinking
about it, like the BK I popped into.
Speaker 3 (18:20):
My head, Oh somebody as Yeah, yeah, a lot of ads,
and you know that's what you're signing up.
Speaker 1 (18:27):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (18:27):
I think I saw a trailer for The Smashing Machine
about four hundred times yesterday during that show in particular.
So I get it, but it kind of pisses me
off that I'm getting all of these ads and shoveling
out forty dollars. It's just crazy to me that I'm
getting advertisements and paying these people. So we'll see if
that continues, because right now it's not worth it.
Speaker 3 (18:48):
You and I were discussing that we were fortunate enough
to participate in the media call with w W and
ESPN got out to ESPN's Ben Cafardo, shout out to
nineteen Media's Warren Shaw for making it possible. Yeah, Brad,
this is a completely new era. And when the idea
of streaming was presented, you know, years and years ago,
(19:10):
and Okay, we're going to pay a cost and get
access to not only this incredible library but just live content.
I think we all assumed at some point, Oh, that
means it's probably going to be ad free. But now
to your point, what's the tiered system? Happened? And now,
apparently based on your Ussel Paluza experience, Oh, you pay
a premium amount, but you also still get the advertisements.
(19:33):
It's kind of I don't know that we anticipated that
when streaming was introduced in the marketplace, but Brad, you
and I were speaking during the production meeting to pull
the curtain back of just trying to figure out how
do we formulate our WWE conversations for this episode and
perhaps the next several episodes of GI because I have
not yet subscribed to the ESPN app and for me
(19:54):
it was twofold. It was obviously we've documented the price,
the cost of living, the cost of being a wrestling fan,
but also, as we've documented on the show, the shortcomings
of w WI and some of the decisions we disagree with,
whether let's just say most recently bringing WrestleMania to Saudi
Arabia and the proximity to a white house that you
(20:18):
know increasingly is making decisions that that I think are wrong.
And there's the brock Lesner and the Hulk Hogan. I saw,
were there a bunch of Hulk Hogan cos players in
the audience yesterday? Okay, okay, yeah, I just wasn't meant
to be for me yesterday, but the card looked very intriguing,
and I just I just had this moment of do
(20:38):
WI or do I not for for this? For this event?
But I said, you know what, I have the greatest
co hosts in the universe. Brad's gonna. Brad's gonna. Brad's
gonna give us those notes and that insight we need,
and then we'll talk about it.
Speaker 1 (20:49):
I'll tell you parts of it.
Speaker 2 (20:53):
I fell asleep, I was laughing, I was choking. I
mostly because I was so tired. I was exhausted. But
the tag match was I guess it was fun at
people finding out that brown Breaker is in an animal
was pretty cool and that the you so sure can't enter?
(21:13):
And then we have the women's match, which was incredible
and the crowd was super up for that. See him
Punk and aj Lee. Okay, I want to talk about
this match real quick. Okay, they won. It was the
right thing. Aj Lee was responsible for getting the pin.
It was a really cool counter. I sent that to
you in the moment. But it was like when she
came out, she came out really hot. I think the
(21:37):
rust came off pretty quickly, but there was some rust immediately.
I think she'll fit right in with this division, but
need some reps. I don't know, I don't know what
the goalits. So she's a cool.
Speaker 1 (21:53):
Throwback to that in between.
Speaker 2 (21:55):
She's a Divas era wrestler, but I never really thought
of her as like Diva. She was just a wrestler
to me, and I think that's why she was so
beloved is that she was so different from like what
had come before that she was like, oh this is
this is totally different. She's like doing she's wrestling, not
just doing the other goofy stuff, but as a transitionary person.
(22:21):
The first thing that happened.
Speaker 1 (22:22):
Was it popped me?
Speaker 2 (22:23):
It was funny, but it was just ag slapping the
crap out of everybody, wildly swinging her arms like just
just flailing. And I was like, that's fine, I guess,
but it's not. It doesn't look like anything that we
were seeing. And it's like, are people really going to
be like, oh no, the slapping when when you watch
(22:45):
Becky throw a forearm shiver into somebody's jaw and it
just looks totally different, and then it and then it
picked up, and then it started looking really good, and
then it was like, oh, she's She's gonna be just fine.
I thought it was a lot of fun, the teas
to get get her into the ring of this nine
minute match. My guess is at least half the match
(23:09):
was no aj Lee. At least half the match. Maybe
I'm wrong about that, and it's just how it felt,
but it was forever so like when she finally got tagged,
it like, you know, big crowd reaction, but she tagged in.
Speaker 1 (23:24):
And the ref didn't see it. And it's a whole thing.
Speaker 2 (23:26):
But there was a lot of nefarious stuff that Becky
and Seth were doing. It was just like the time
it took to get there. The pacing was so slow
and so boring.
Speaker 1 (23:36):
I was so bored.
Speaker 2 (23:37):
I was like, Okay, the stopping the tag and doing
this and doing that, that's fine for a little while,
but after a while it's like, he just do it,
just get in there already. I'm sick of waiting, Like
I just wanted it to move along, because it was
just like becoming annoying. So once it happened though, Aj
came out swinging and flailing, and then it turned into
(24:02):
Aja doing her thing, and it was a lot of fun.
She gave Seth a stomp. It was it was great,
Like it was a lot of fun. The best way
I could say it, but that that finish of her
about to get dunked on with a man handleslam flinging
her legs up over the top and putting her in
the black widow was really cool because she hit it
a couple of times. She got Seth in the black
(24:23):
widow at one point, it was it was pretty great.
So I thought it was a lot of fun. It
was a little long for my liking. I don't know
how other people viewed it. If you if you disagree,
let me know and it's thought. It took a long
time to get there, and then Cody defeated Drew, and
I didn't think anybody thought anything else was gonna happen there.
But the part that I got that got me is
(24:46):
what's the next ESPN wrestling event? So so the reason
that I think that this happened at all with Wreussell Palooza,
when's the last wrestle Paloosa.
Speaker 3 (25:00):
That's a great question.
Speaker 1 (25:01):
I don't know that there was there one maybe in
the eighties. I don't know.
Speaker 2 (25:06):
Maybe, but that's the point I don't I don't have
a clue. I think what happened is that with the
Peacock partnership, they likely had a partnership to do the
specific name of these events up to any new events
that we're going to cover in the next couple of
years or whatever.
Speaker 1 (25:23):
Sign the deal.
Speaker 2 (25:24):
If Wressell Paluza lied outside that list of events, that
would allow them to do a pl e on ESPN
instead of on Peacock, so that people don't have to
pay for the Peacock subscription. They have to get the
ESPN one that locks them in because they need it.
Speaker 1 (25:38):
You know, people are.
Speaker 2 (25:38):
Either going to forget about it or just be like, yo, yeah,
I'm excited about wrestling, so I'm going to keep my subscription.
They're not going to get anything for months, and then
eventually they'll they'll they'll get their stuff that they're paying for.
But I think Wressell Paluza was a way to get
people to go over to ESPN. I'm sure somebody covered
this at some point and either I'm wrong or that's
exactly what happened. It just seems like if we use
(26:01):
a plee property to invite people in, they will then
have to pay to be in, and they will likely
stand the way that people forget Oh yeah, I do
have an account, you know.
Speaker 3 (26:10):
Yes, yes, versus That's what happened to me with the
TNA Plus app is they got me with the end
of the year discount and then I simply forgot to
address my account status and then okay, I'm signed up
for a full year of TNA Plus to watch Mike
Santana lous in his home state and you know, other
fun happenings and Brett. If we think about with Peacock,
(26:31):
which I do still have and account for, my understanding
is the nxtpls are still gonna live on that app,
it's just the WWE pl E's Roll, Rumbo, WrestleMania, Wressell
Palooza and so on and so forth. Obviously I've now
moved over there. So you know, even if we think
about this, this upcoming weekend, we got nxt No Mercy,
some big matches on there, Ricky Saints versus Obafemi. I
(26:53):
think All the Vice is gonna win the NXTO Women's
Championship from JC Jane at this show, which would be
a big look for her in her career. So there's
just there's so many apps, there's so much content. It's
just trying to put those puzzle pieces together. I think
for all of us as wrestling fans to figure out
what do we want to watch and maybe we don't
have to exist in this tribalistic world where Okay, I
(27:15):
can support warn Company and I'm going to double down
on that. If that's your mindset, of course, we're not
mad at you go for it, but I think you
and I Brad, we're just such big fans of wrestlers
across promotions and it's just a matter of figuring out
if we go back to the beginning of our episode,
time factoring in money and where do we just want
to invest our energy toward and ideally you and I
(27:37):
want to give it everywhere and talk about everything and
cover all these amazing performers. In this case is past weekend.
You know, it felt like obviously we had two big
shows to cover, Wrestle Palooza and All Out. But I'm
glad to your point that there were highlights from this show.
And if I'm hearing your review correctly, it would seem
that Steph versus EO You're a match of the night.
Speaker 2 (27:59):
Yes, okay, far away moments of the night. I think
a j Lee coming back was a moment, but like
it was really entertaining. But Steph winning was that was
just so much fun. Other people probably disagree. I don't
really frankly care. I just you know whatever. I think
(28:20):
part of it might have been having wrestling all morning.
Going into more wrestling was tough because like the Hangman
the Hangman match, the entrance into it started as brock
Lessner's entrance started, so it was they were overlapping a
little bit, and I had to playing on my phone
while I was watching it on this screen right here,
(28:41):
watching All Out, and I was like I I'm so
glad I'm watching all out right now.
Speaker 1 (28:48):
Because it was it was just brutal. So I have
a question for you, tire Tyler.
Speaker 2 (28:54):
This this requires some lead up, and it's a it's
a bit of a behemoth, So bear with me because
I was tinfoil hat and last night, Okay, Russell Bluesa
comes off the heels of Disney losing three point eight
billion dollars after indefinitely suspending Jimmy Kimmel because of pressure
from Trump and an FCC chair only really interested in
state media and not free speech. The Hurst Group owns
(29:15):
twenty percent of ESPN Okay and Disney owns the other
eighty percent of ESPN. Next are in Sinclair, the two
largest station groups in America, and the streets are saying
that their merger would need approval from the FCC to
break rules disallowing something like that from happening. However, Hurst
(29:35):
is also a station group among owning magazines and newspapers
that have covered the Kimmel suspension, So why should we
care about this? ESPN now has sole rights to wwpl's
Warner Brothers. Discovery is rumored to be a purchase interest
for Netflix and Netflix has rights to Raw for years
to come. However, Warner has rights to adew Okay. Question,
(30:01):
should the Netflix deal happen and next our Sinclair merge
to control most local affiliate broadcast stations, what do you
foresee as the future of professional wrestling as we know
it in America in terms of a televised product.
Speaker 3 (30:16):
Wow, that's a huge question. I mean, the future of
wrestling given this, this potential merger television wise in America.
I mean, it's it's already just about happening on every
day of the week, if I'm not mistaken. You remember
(30:36):
a while it was okay, Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and now
just seemingly every day of the week of anything. I
think that would just further Maybe we'll get more wrestling
on you know, Sundays or or you know, maybe some
of the days where we don't necessarily have a lot
of context as football and other reasons. But yeah, Brad,
I really believe that, if anything, we're just going to
continue to get more content because the don't I believe that,
(31:00):
you know, with the merger and with all all the
companies that are out there, wrestling fandom is only going
to continue to grow. I don't see us going to
a point where, Okay, in the late nineties and early
two thousands, it's hot as can be, and then there's
this significant cooling off period. It's giving monopoly bobs where
there's just one big company and you know, no one
else is even really close or really even a legit competitor.
(31:24):
I think from now moving forward, it's only going to
to you know, to continue to grow legs. And we
do have a presidential administration. You mentioned Trump, who has
always been in the combat sports arena, or at least
adjacent to it, so at least in the immediate future,
you mentioned the FCC situation and and the worries of
(31:45):
state run media. If there's one thing we do know
about Donald Trump, we do know that the president does
love combat sports. It does love wrestling. I mean, the
man is a WWE Hall of Famer for you know,
for what it's worth. So I think, if anything, this
is only going to further it. But I do share
your concerns about Okay, wrestling is going to be in
a good spot. Merger, no merger. I think I think
(32:07):
we're going to be just fine as wrestling fans, but
the state run media of it all, and I wonder
do you remember back in w W WEE this was
going I think twenty years ago, maybe early two thousands,
George W. Bush era, when they would infuse some politics,
even Barack Obama, when they would have candidates appear on
rawp or appear on SmackDown for you know, a kind
(32:28):
of scripted promo, and they would get to say some words.
Speaker 1 (32:30):
Yes, I wanted they had like a wrestling tie like yeah.
Speaker 3 (32:34):
I just have these memories of seeing George W. Bush
on and years later seeing Barack Obama on. I wonder
the way you framed the question, I wonder if we'll
see any of that coming up. We know, once again,
as I mentioned earlier, w w's proximity to the current administration.
I wonder if we would see any of that moving forward,
(32:54):
because we haven't seen you know, really politics on TV
in that way in a long long time, particularlywe I
wonder if that would be a part of the conversation
anyway moving forward. How about yourself phenomenal question, Thank.
Speaker 2 (33:06):
You, Yeah, I'm My fear is that it will be
fine for a little bit.
Speaker 1 (33:13):
If let's say, let's say.
Speaker 2 (33:15):
Uh, we know Trump has health issues, they're not super disclosed,
but they look.
Speaker 1 (33:23):
Like certain things.
Speaker 2 (33:25):
I'm not comfortable seeing that out loud right now because
I'm afraid of state run media control. So leave it
Pepe if he has to step down from office, or
if he has to if somebody like Jady Vance gets
in there. Do you think that a demon is going
(33:46):
to be allowed to be a character. Do you think
that girls are going to be able to wear revealing
clothing that are really just sports competition outfits that would
be a kin to be like more clothing than like
a beach volleyball. I just I just feel like there's
going to be a form of censorship that takes place
(34:08):
that would be problematic for creativity and for the artistic
expression side of things as much as it would be
for like the business side of things. What if if
this merger takes place and suddenly they have most of
the screens, And granted I don't know that I care
of Sinclair and next our merge in ten years are
(34:32):
they going to have affiliate stations?
Speaker 1 (34:36):
Where are they broadcasting?
Speaker 2 (34:37):
Everything's gonna be online, So I don't know that I
really care all that much about that part unless they
control the streaming rights, then then I care very much.
But you know, I don't have to tune into t
n T or TBS to watch AW. I go to
HBO Max and I have it right there. I can't
watch SmackDown right now because Fox is weird and and
(35:01):
I have RAW, but I don't have Cable because I
just wasn't using it, using all the streaming platforms that
had anything on it. So I worry a little bit
about censorship more than anything else, because let's say Sinclair Nextstar,
the merger, Triple H in the White House ties this
current administration, everybody's about money more than anything in these situations. However,
(35:27):
should somebody on the roster like Brodie King you already
alluded to, or Tony Kahan make a statement, what's preventing
somebody that has control from pulling their product as a
favor to one of the other corporations like WWE. I
don't think nick con would be that stupid, but you
never know. If it comes to money and pressure from
TKO Holdings or something like that, it very well could
(35:49):
be because I can very much see Dana White doing
something like that. It just depends on the group. So
I worry about the censorship part. I worry about who
would be doing the censoring because for all the people
that were like, I can't believe the Charlie Kirk death
happened and he was killed for speaking his mind. That
to go like, where are the bastions of free speech?
(36:10):
And then to have a government official pressure pressure at
corporation to put Jimmy Kimmel on suspension because he made
a comment about the Republican Party and not about Charlie Kirk.
It was just about how they responded to it, which
was gross, and he was right.
Speaker 1 (36:29):
To have that all be.
Speaker 2 (36:32):
Kind of a what feels like a politically driven decision
scares a crap out of me and wants to prevent
that from seeping into all of our content, our sports,
our pro wrestling, our filmmaking. What does freedom of speech
look like if that keeps happening? So I could see
if all these acquisitions are about making money to garner power,
(36:54):
then when the power goes to only the four or
five groups of people that are allowed to have it
because they have the ability to have it, how does
that affect everything else? And how does that affect we
assume it and how do we have social commentary about
those things if we can't do it because like even famously,
(37:15):
the FCC got involved with DX and instead of instead
of just stopping what they were doing, they made it
a point to make a funny, mocking, you know segment
where they write off the letter from the FCC limiting
freedom of speech.
Speaker 1 (37:33):
Would they do that today? And that's the thing that
I think about a lot.
Speaker 2 (37:37):
It's like, this company that's always been a bastion for
these things, will they continue to be so if they're
not allowed to be so, if they've made bed with
the with the one thing that could prevent them from
being that.
Speaker 1 (37:49):
I just I really wonder that.
Speaker 2 (37:50):
Because for all their faults, for Vince McMahon's faults and
for all those things, I'm pretty sure freedom of speech
was always like a, yeah, this is one of the
most important things we have for that company in particular.
Speaker 1 (38:02):
So I wonder how that's gonna look if.
Speaker 2 (38:04):
It changes repeters out scary it really, it really freaks
me out.
Speaker 3 (38:09):
Man, Yeah, yeah, And I think it freaks us out
as citizens, It freaks us out as educators, it freaks
us out as as podcast hosts here.
Speaker 1 (38:20):
All those things.
Speaker 2 (38:21):
I just that I don't know if somebody sees that,
if I'm in trouble. I have no right yet. Yeah, yeah,
you know, like every day I'm like, I don't know
what I'm allowed to say. I think it's not school time,
I'm not on the clock. It should be fine.
Speaker 3 (38:34):
It feels particularly relevant for us because it really has
seeped into both our professional and our personal lives. You know,
it's just it's I'll say this. I was ten years old,
Brad when I first listened to fifty cents Get Richard
Die tryin album. I had this huge poster in my
bedroom of a shirtless fifty cent with like glass breaking
(38:57):
around like his chain. It was a whole thing shout
out to my being amazing for supporting my love of
fifty cent back in the day. So that was, I
want to say, two thousand and three. Of course, our
audience can let me know if I'm wrong on like
you're just off the top of my head. And fast
forward twenty something years later, and I just saw an
ad that fifty cent is now the host for some
(39:17):
true crime show on Fox Nation, which is an app
that I have no interest in ever downloading. So here
we are where It's just it's just a crazy time, man.
It just feels like there's just so much around around
these forms of entertainment that you and I enjoy, or
(39:39):
even just being wrestling fans, but simply just existing and
trying to maintain our jobs and do our jobs well.
There really is this pressure now more than ever to
be mindful of what you say. And I think mindfulness
is important, but in the way you're referencing where it's
on this sphere of state run media, and you know
that's different than just being mindful of about what comes
(40:00):
out of your mouth. Right. We try to teach young
people that, we try to work on that ourselves. But
when you have a story like a Jimmy Kimmel, who
financially we would assume is doing really well and buy
his kids braces.
Speaker 1 (40:10):
And and he'll bounce back.
Speaker 3 (40:12):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. The the you know, sun devil
grab himself.
Speaker 1 (40:15):
And he's suspended. He's not fired, he's suspended.
Speaker 3 (40:18):
Right, right exactly. But you and I documented this just
a few weeks ago with Stephen Colbert and the concerns
we had, well not even concerns. You and I were
addressing kind of the state of late night television and
how it's changed over the years. So that was CBS
and Paramount and they just struck this huge deal with
UFC to be the official home of UFC events. The
(40:38):
aforementioned Dana White, President of UFC, right, and now, yeah,
the face of UFC, if you will, above any fighter,
above any of that, Dana White is the face of UFC.
And then now with ABC and Disney and the correlation
of the ESPN and the ESPN ESPN and the ESPN app.
It's just it's everywhere. Man, I'm grateful that we have
(40:59):
a podcast. Your point we have to think about, Okay, well,
we're always going to bring our authentic opinions and our
insights on this. To see people with these huge names
being taken a task for what they say, it's it's
just I remember reading stories like Fahrenheit four fifty one
another school and thinking, oh, this is interesting, let's have
(41:20):
a little let's get an arsocratic seminar in class in
nineteen eighty four, and let's write essays about it. And
perhaps you know the George or Wells and Ray Bradberry's,
perhaps they were writing those as warnings rather than just
as entertainment.
Speaker 2 (41:36):
Yeah, it's scary, because well George Orwell was writing it.
It was a warning because he saw what totalitarian authoritarian
governments do and he was worried about it.
Speaker 1 (41:47):
He was a socialist.
Speaker 2 (41:48):
I didn't even know that until later in my life,
and if they told me in school, I didn't.
Speaker 1 (41:52):
Know what that meant.
Speaker 2 (41:54):
But he was like, yeah, if you give total power
over to the government, you're going to control everything you do,
in every bit of your move, how you think, how
you feel, all of these things. And it's when you
have the Ministry of Truth right in the right in
the book, and it's the Department of Lies, basically where
they make all the history up and change everything. When
(42:14):
you start hearing stuff like yeah, we want to have
it on truth social which is ninety nine percent of
it is misinformed content.
Speaker 1 (42:24):
Or line with statistics.
Speaker 2 (42:26):
There's a book published in the fifties called How to
Lie with Statistics, and it was the first textbook I
got from my statistics class.
Speaker 1 (42:34):
Listen, I'm going to be super open minded all the time.
Speaker 2 (42:36):
I have to be as an educator. I my job
when I when I'm at school, when I clock in,
is what's best for kids? What are my standards? What
do I have to do today to make sure that
they get what they need? And how do I support
everybody in my room? I don't have to care about it.
That's the best part about like the job is I
don't have to care about politics in the moment. I
(42:58):
just have to teach them my content and get them
the skills they need and hopefully they leave better for it.
And I get to work with teens every day, and
I get to work with kids from different backgrounds.
Speaker 1 (43:08):
And it's I love when people disagree. I think it's dope.
Speaker 2 (43:11):
It's it's how do we get out of the mindset
of I disagree and therefore that's the part, like where
how can we get back to I disagree and stop?
We're in this loop of I disagree and therefore that's
a bad person or that person deserves something bad to
happen to them, instead of flatly no, we disagree, Okay,
(43:33):
you want to go get some coffee? Well, has it
got to be like no, and now we had to
burn everything down? It's just it makes me really sad.
It's it's our culture is is sort of mirrored in
the tribalism that exists professional wrestling. We have pro WW
pro a w instead of people that just enjoy wrestling,
(43:55):
like like I do, and I know you do, and
I think most people do, but they feel so emboldened
to be like, no, I have to take this one
because I know it more and it's been around more
and it's a better one. And okay under armor shoes
are really comfortable and like he's been around a lot longer.
Speaker 1 (44:12):
I don't. I got it. I'm old. I'm once like
I move around and I like them both. It's not
if it's comfortable and looks good. I'm in. If it's
comfortable and it's a workshow, I don't really care if
it looks good. Is it comfortable like that?
Speaker 2 (44:23):
That's where I am like, So, yeah, I go on
and on and on about it and we have but
it's uh, yes, it's a tough time, man.
Speaker 1 (44:30):
It's interesting.
Speaker 3 (44:31):
Yeah, and just a conclusion, Brad, it absolutely is. Right now,
as we record on Sunday afternoon, about fifteen twenty minutes
from me, the Charlie Kirk Public Memorial is going down
at State Farm Stadium, home with the NFL's Arizona Cardinals,
and it's expected, it's estimated that they're over one hundred
thousand people who are converging onto Westgate to recognize and
(44:55):
celebrate Kirk in his passing. Donald Trump is expected to
be there, Vance is expected to be there. I mean,
it's just I think about the work that we get
to do, as you point out, and I have to do,
but get to do with young people, and it's just
so interesting to see their perspective and kind of watch
(45:15):
their thoughts play out in real time, and like you said,
the art of having healthy debate, healthy disagreement, because ultimately
we are passing along this world, this country, this society
to them. I feel privileged that you and I get to,
you know, hopefully pass this thing down to really capable
hands of a bunch of young people who are empathetic, thoughtful,
(45:36):
hopefully seeking truth and you know, don't let apps or
devices sort of control, you know, their humanity or what
they believe to be to be true. So we'll see,
it's just the Arizona of it all, the connection to
you and I in this podcast, with everything that's happening
in media and culture. It's something that I'm certain we'll
(45:57):
speak about on episodes to come.
Speaker 2 (46:00):
Well, Luckily, we do have we do have our kids.
We have our children in a classroom. When I got
a children, a children, I have one, children in my
in my household, and the Royal Boy hasn't been busy
around here, so let's get into it.
Speaker 1 (46:16):
It's time for some day when you have kids.
Speaker 3 (46:18):
And now it's time for fun doll someday when you
have kids.
Speaker 1 (46:24):
That's all, okay.
Speaker 2 (46:31):
It's been no secret, Tyler that K Pop Demon Hunters
has become a cultural phenomenon.
Speaker 1 (46:38):
And Sony really after this one up so bad, so bad.
Speaker 2 (46:43):
I don't know if you know the background of all that,
but Sony was like, this will never Sony was like,
this will never be a hit. Nobody's gonna watch this,
so let's let's sell it. Netflix, you know, bought it
for a dollar and a hot dog. And uh, it's
now what they refer to as they're frozen. They already
have sequels planned, they're already working on a live action
(47:04):
straight It's like a billion dollar industry around this, this
tiny economy around K Pop Demon Hunters. I would imagine
the most popular costumes this year will be from K
Pop Demon Hunters, just flatly. And I know people are
excited to see the live action and are excited for
this animation studio to crank out another sequel. But Sony
(47:25):
didn't think it would be successful, and sold the rights
and the properties to Netflix, And it's just crazy to
think about how hard they f this up. Well, Freya,
I believe this is for I found this out yesterday
and now I'm kind of heated, But I believe it's
for the dance, for the Halloween dance that they're going
to dress up her and her two friends as the
(47:47):
Hunter Tricks, the three girl leads in K pop Demon Hunters, and.
Speaker 1 (47:54):
They all have weapons.
Speaker 2 (47:55):
Okay, And now that I heard this, I was like, well,
what was the point of me making all this stuff?
Bring them into a school. So now I'm kind of pissed,
so mad trick or treating. I don't know if they're
all going to go together or not. If they do,
then I'll feel like it was worth it. I thought
that was the plan. The reason I say it sucks
because I've been three D printing for like ever, for
(48:20):
the last two weeks at least, I've been trying to
three D print this stuff, fine tune it by parts,
fine materials, figure out ways to make this glow scale
everything so that it's not eighteen feet taller than the
child that will hold it. And I've been working out
Mirror's weapon. Now I showed you this part. This is
like a guy that goes over on top of the
blade that then goes over a piece that attaches to
(48:42):
the handle. Now, when you're three D printing, lots of
strange parts come off of this. So this is part
of the handle on a failed print. I couldn't figure
out why the print failed. These are trees, so I
was trying to explain to you earlier. The way it
breaks off is they're all in there pretty loosely and
they just sort of snap off, and then you're left
(49:03):
with the part that you printed. Sometimes little chunks get stuck,
like right in there, and you got to pull them
out or cut them off. I'll try to get a
close ish. You can see it in there in that groove.
It comes out pretty easily. But I learned my lesson
with three D filament that blows in the dark. So
I bought rainbow filament Tyler, and I learned something. The
(49:25):
rainbow filament is in layers, and it's like a color
for a certain amount of feet. And the way three
D printers work is they print in layers. So the
first layer, it's all the same height and it sort
of builds whatever you're printing from the bottom up, because
you know gravity. The problem is if you don't print
all the pieces that are going to be put together
as one piece together, the colors.
Speaker 1 (49:47):
Don't line up, but you won't know that until later.
Speaker 2 (49:56):
These are some of the parts that I printed with
the rainbow filament. Now they all line up. The thing
about it is that the colors don't. So the ones
that work perfectly redsh it's like a pink to a purple,
(50:17):
and then at that cut line where you join them together,
green bright green.
Speaker 1 (50:23):
So it looks apocalyptically stupid.
Speaker 2 (50:25):
So what I thought was, well, since it kind of
has a pinkish purple glow.
Speaker 1 (50:29):
It's gonna get some purple filament go with it. So
I got glow in the dark purple filament. Now again.
Speaker 2 (50:38):
One of the issues with it, because these line up
like that whoop, you go like that, they'll get together
and you can see if this if this side glows
green and this side glows purple, that's gonna look real
dumb at night. You're gonna have like fruit striped gumb Well.
Speaker 1 (50:54):
I have it all set up. But the way that this.
Speaker 2 (50:57):
Filament works is some of the filament. It's just terrible.
I don't even know how to describe it. It's garbage,
it's whatever. I have a whole set of the blade.
It's for these bad boys attached like this, to this,
(51:20):
to this.
Speaker 3 (51:22):
This is a whole theory to this.
Speaker 2 (51:24):
Okay, Yeah, and what is Freya the most excited about?
Speaker 1 (51:30):
The f and trees? The f and trees I break
off and throw away. Oh, I can make a Halloween
house out of this. Oh, that could be fun and
with my dolls.
Speaker 2 (51:41):
Ooh, that could be like a Lego forest. Incredibly inventive,
really creative.
Speaker 1 (51:45):
I love it. I love it. Appreciate what I'm doing
here because I'm dying, and she's excited about the garbage.
She's excited about the trash tyler. I get to make
this cool thing. It will be one of a kind.
Speaker 2 (51:58):
It'll be like a million of a kind once people
start printing these things, but it will be unique, and
it will be the one that I made for her,
and apparently the other one I made for her, and
she's like, cool, joy doesn't have one.
Speaker 1 (52:10):
I'm gonna give it to her. It's like she's gonna
pay me. That's that's fifty bucks.
Speaker 3 (52:19):
She owes me right, he accepts cash ze.
Speaker 2 (52:22):
Yes, I actually have no idea how much that would
actually cost to no idea how much that actually costs.
Probably like four dollars worth of filament. So so whatever,
it's the time, it's the standing, it's.
Speaker 3 (52:34):
The heath and the through line of this episode. Time.
Speaker 2 (52:37):
Oh good lord, but I know it's gonna pay off,
It's gonna look awesome. But when when they like shove
you out of the way to find the gem behind it,
it'd be like setting in your audition tape and then
going like, well you were good, but who was who
were you acting with? What's their name? It feels a
little bit like that to me when the trees are
(52:58):
the main star of this little program can't even figure
out which way to go here there?
Speaker 1 (53:02):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (53:03):
And I hope you feel it, the pain, the suffering,
the humility.
Speaker 1 (53:09):
Someday when you.
Speaker 3 (53:10):
Have kids, We still love you, Freya. K Pop Demon Hunters.
When you first told me about K Pop Demon Hunters, Brad,
I thought, what what the hell is he talking about?
What what sort of niche niche program is this? Let
me say, and I found it on the Netflix Q
so to hear that this has been absolutely riveting success
at this point, maybe one of Netflix's most valuable.
Speaker 1 (53:32):
Properties far and away. I would say this is it
that more stranger things.
Speaker 3 (53:36):
Freya and her friends are all in. This is this
is man, this is this is a big development. You were,
you're you were on the cutting edge of the shout
out to Frey. We still love you, Freya, even though
your favorite part of your dad's hard work are the
small trees.
Speaker 1 (53:49):
I know it'll change once she can hold on to
the thing and then yeah, ye yeah, for sure. Breakfast.
Speaker 2 (53:54):
You've got to make it last a Halloween. You break it,
it's over. Then you're not getting anything. But yeah, man,
if if you haven't, I dot you have. But uh,
check it out.
Speaker 3 (54:04):
Watch the movie. It's worth it. The soundtrack. The soundtrack
is is dope.
Speaker 1 (54:09):
Yeah, yeah, it's really good.
Speaker 2 (54:10):
It's really good, and they're they're all really good. I
liked watching people break down with some of the songs
we're trying to say in it, and I was like, oh,
that's pretty cool. But it's a it's a very unique
it's a very unique thing. I don't know how else
to describe it. Uh, there's also the what is it
the Mitchell's versus the Machines I think is what it's
called on Netflix. Also worth it another one by that
(54:32):
animation studio. It's been out for several years now. That
one's a lot of fun too, really really good, worth
worth the time to watch that one. If you decide
like I need some uplifting stuff, go watch that's good
family movie.
Speaker 1 (54:46):
Need it need more of that? That's you.
Speaker 2 (54:48):
I'm not saying K Pop Demon Hunter is that's necessarily
going to be the most uplifting thing in the world,
but it certainly is a feel good movie, especially if
you follow it all the way through and you're interested
in character redemption and character arcs. I thought it was
a little rushed in times. I guess it was supposed
to be much much longer, and they thought nobody would
want to watch it, so they cut it down. So
(55:11):
I think it would have been good with that extra time.
But I really liked that as it was. I'm sure
we're getting like special editions and director's cuts and everything
else at some point, given the giant it has become.
Speaker 3 (55:22):
Well on the subject I feel good moments, Certainly those
were not observed for just k pup Dey Ben Hunt
or even w W's Wressell pull.
Speaker 2 (55:29):
Another nine hour episode today excited Brad Winchester.
Speaker 3 (55:34):
Aw All Out also took place on Saturday, Sure did,
And my goodness, where to start about this show? Of course,
this took place at the Scotia Bank Arena in Toronto.
If we're including the tailgate brawl aka the buy in
zero hour, the pre show, whatever you want to call it.
If we include that card, we watched a total of
(55:56):
fourteen matches. I'm going to start with this question and
feel free to take the conversation wherever you would like.
What did you think of aw all about? Who were
the Knights or the Days? Because we watched this in
the afternoon Arizona time. Who were the day's biggest winners
for you?
Speaker 1 (56:15):
Out of matches or in general?
Speaker 3 (56:17):
In general?
Speaker 2 (56:18):
Okay, so fans were the biggest winners. If I had
to pick talent, uh gotta be Jurassic Express.
Speaker 1 (56:27):
And Chris Statlander. So we'll get to that in a second.
Speaker 2 (56:33):
I thought, I just thought in every one of these
matches there was a moment or were moments that were
like meaningful and.
Speaker 1 (56:46):
Really good.
Speaker 2 (56:47):
I thought it was cool seeing you know, m VP.
Obviously the demand which is a great name, Yes, great
name for that group, the one I think was the
right call. But getting to see m v P in
ring gear was that made me really happy. Adam Copeland
(57:08):
coming out with christ Cage and like doing the whole
walk up, uh, which is an unfortuant, unfortunate sentence because
he's our scumbag works but he's our asshole. Having had
him Adam Copeland saying but he's my asshole, was like,
that's a sentence.
Speaker 1 (57:25):
You just called them, you just called them your.
Speaker 3 (57:27):
I think he even did the look when he said
that to himself, Adam Coplan, yeah, kind of, at least
in a previous He's like, yeah, that okay.
Speaker 2 (57:35):
Yeah, and that's and that's fine. But I thought it
was great that the crowd was chanting it knowing. I mean,
I felt so good for those guys. That was a
really fun match. Beth Copeland, That's what I was gonna say.
Speaker 3 (57:46):
Amazing self, Amazing self from Stokely gets speared by the
artist woman knows Beth Phoenix and he's just effectively dead
at that point.
Speaker 2 (57:54):
Came up right away. When the fire came up, I
knew what was about to happen. I just knew, like
that is that those are phoenix flames right there is
what that is?
Speaker 3 (58:02):
I gang grill energy. But you were You were right.
Speaker 1 (58:05):
They would have they would have had a different theme,
but they would have done.
Speaker 3 (58:08):
The yes because I would have seen gang Grill before
he was he was in that what was that Copeland? Yeah,
Malachi Black Yep cage match, And I.
Speaker 2 (58:17):
Think I think even happened, because how could you not.
I think that will happen. But I think it's gonna
have to be like an insurmountable task, right, like they
desperately need the help and need to go to a
dark place to get there. Maybe they come out with
the ninety sunglasses and they and some trench coats.
Speaker 1 (58:35):
I'd be here for it.
Speaker 3 (58:36):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (58:37):
But yeah, when Beth ran out and she was wearing
the headband and and spirit stoke, But it was the
fireman's carry out to the back that got me, just like,
I'm just gonna go ahead and take him out of here.
Speaker 1 (58:48):
I thought that was great.
Speaker 3 (58:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (58:50):
I also really enjoyed the look she gave to Christian.
I thought that was great because she looked like, I
don't trust you at all, buddy. I thought that was
really good. So I love that Eddie Kingston's back. His
emotion at the end of the match. He didn't win
like a prize or anything, but his emotion at the
end of the match was just felt so genuine. He's
(59:11):
been gone for so long. I feel so good for him.
That was a fun match. Mark Brisco beating MJF in
that match, I'm not gonna say that's a spoiler. I
don't think it hurts MJF one bit. And Brisco needed
that win, and I think I thought that was great
because what came out of that is we're back to business.
Speaker 1 (59:33):
But I'm not done with these other people.
Speaker 2 (59:34):
And I got I got a surprise entrance coming back
and then did the lazy thumbs up. Awesome, Okay, we
already talked to Man, Mercedes, been A and Rio. I
thought was really fun. It wasn't the greatest match of
all time, but it was a good one and it
was a lot of fun. That stump by Rijo, I
don't care how small she is, always looks like it's
(59:56):
going to shatter the inside of your body. I don't
know how she's able to do it where it just
looks just brutal, kind of like Darby's Darby stops on
John Moxley. Look personal, Okata beating Dakeshta and Dorada.
Speaker 1 (01:00:11):
Okay, it's fine, I was. I was a little disappointed,
but really, yeah, this was my match of the night.
I no, no, not not the match, the outcome.
Speaker 3 (01:00:21):
Oh okay, yeah, yeah, it was pretty much a given,
know that.
Speaker 2 (01:00:24):
Yeah, that's what I'm just kind of tired of feeling
like it's always a given and that's the that's the part.
It's like, I want a little bit of danger, you
can for There's no way Derada's and Kesha is gonna
pin Dorata the way they built this.
Speaker 1 (01:00:34):
No, he's gotta Pinocotta.
Speaker 3 (01:00:36):
No Derada, Mascara. Dorada was for sure taking the pin.
Oh my gosh. So the inn ring work in this match,
it was incredible. I don't think we've spoken enough on
air about how much I love triple threat matches. I
know they're not everyone's jam when when done right, yes, yes,
one of my favorite things in wrestling. These guys, especially
uh Derada, absolutely tore it up.
Speaker 2 (01:00:57):
What I think, I think to your pot the coverage,
for sure, I think the fans going into this match,
I knew it was gonna be awesome, and I figured
like Doronda was probably gonna eat that pin, but the
fans probably were thinking of Dorata the way that they
treated him in the beginning of the match, where it's
like between the two.
Speaker 1 (01:01:11):
Of us and he's here throw off that right. Yeah, yeah,
I thought it was great. And then he's the first
and he was just he was he was electric.
Speaker 3 (01:01:19):
He just had moments after these exceptional feats of athleticism
enough where the crowd was behind just sort of pose
and it was like, Okay, yeah, this guy, this guy,
we don't see him all the time. He primarily the
rest of in Mexico, but he he understood the assignment
and he was a phenomenal definitely not giving third will
at all. He really even though we know the money,
the money is in Ocada versus Takeshta, the latter probably
(01:01:43):
going to be the next champ. I just thought it
was exceptional here and I'm excited because I know we'll
eventually gets christat Lander, who's our new a W Women's
World Champ, which I can't believe.
Speaker 2 (01:01:52):
Yeah, I think Takesha Takesha beating Nakada will be the
moment where we're excited and then he gets the evolution
Randy and treatment from the Donkallis family.
Speaker 3 (01:02:02):
I think that could happen as soon as wrestled Dream
next week.
Speaker 1 (01:02:03):
I agree, I agree.
Speaker 2 (01:02:06):
Yeah, the mocks Darby thing, that was a fun match
to cough, A match we knew it was going to
be super violent and super gross. It was just really
cool to see pack Is back with bangs with bangs.
Speaker 1 (01:02:18):
That was wild.
Speaker 3 (01:02:18):
Yeah, what do you think about the bags?
Speaker 2 (01:02:20):
I did not care for that look, But it's only
because he's not wearing wrestling gear and I don't know
what he'll look like when he wets his hair.
Speaker 3 (01:02:27):
Or it's giving speaking of Netflix properties, it's giving Vampire.
Speaker 1 (01:02:32):
Diaries a little bit.
Speaker 2 (01:02:33):
Yeah, that's what I was thinking to it's because of
the black tea. Yeah, if you would have wore a
different tea, I think it would have worked better. But
I'm just so pumped because he's such a talent. Uh yeah,
stat winning in that match. That match was a lot
of fun. Uh tecla tecla dinner thing, and uh.
Speaker 3 (01:02:51):
What a phenomenal signing. She's been money.
Speaker 2 (01:02:54):
And and this is exactly where I figured she would
be slotted in that main event picture. I'm telling you,
soon as she got signed. I was like, here we go.
This is one of those people that are like, yeah,
rocketing to the top because she has an interesting look,
she wrestles differently than everybody else. She's yeah, totally totally
unique and super excited for her to get that spot.
(01:03:16):
Great to see Jamie Hayter, timeless Tony Storm having that run.
I'm actually excited to see what's next. I'm kind of
hoping that will lead to her going like, well, I
already beat you and I want to belt back, so
I'm going after Mercedes now. That could be fun to
have her going after a title that Mercedes has versus
the other way around and get another one of those matches.
(01:03:36):
Could be a lot of fun. Brodido defeating the Young
Bucks was great. That match was a lot of fun.
Speaker 1 (01:03:42):
I'm glad.
Speaker 2 (01:03:43):
I'm glad Speedball Mike Bailey's okay he said so online
because his leg went into that ladder and woof. But
then the end of that match, we had we had
Jack Perry returning fighting the Young Bucks, and then blackout
cuts to a clip of him taking a coffin out
of the ground and reviving a dead Lucasaurus, and then
(01:04:09):
you hear Tarzan boys start playing in the background after
the hug healing.
Speaker 1 (01:04:13):
That's the one I sent you, so like.
Speaker 3 (01:04:14):
This is he you said, one of your favorite moments
of the year.
Speaker 2 (01:04:20):
I've been wanting Matt reunion forever. I don't need the
characters to be the same, but I've been waiting for
that reunion because they haven't really figured out how to
make them singles. Guys, they just never really figured it out.
Speaker 3 (01:04:30):
Yeah, about the Acclaimed, we saw the backstage segment with
their backstage outside the arena segment with them earlier in
the night that it seems like they're really going full
speed ahead on this. But Jerry Lynn is reuniting.
Speaker 2 (01:04:42):
Yeah, and if they and if they do in fact
reunite and we get the Acclaimed back, we would have
the Acclaimed, Jurassic Express, Cope and Christian or Cope, cagetrt FTR,
the Young Bucks, we have the Champs, like you said, well,
we have Brotido, and then we have like the Tree
that do tags every once in a while. We have
all these that tag team division will be so back
(01:05:05):
and I think that's what would separate them immediately from
the other product is again relying on great single stars.
Speaker 1 (01:05:13):
But that Tag division being just second to none.
Speaker 2 (01:05:16):
I think that that actually was hurt by the Trio's division.
I think the Trio's division was the reason that the
tag division sort of petered out. Is let's how can
we add people, how can we stretch them out?
Speaker 1 (01:05:27):
How can we do this? Let's add more titles we
bought our Oh and now I.
Speaker 2 (01:05:31):
Just feel like there's just too many things going on
in there where if you focused on like tags and
a couple of belts were good. But but I really
enjoyed that that was That was an incredible moment. And
then Hangman Adam Page versus Kyle Fletcher was such a
good match. Holy crap, that match was good. Now I
(01:05:54):
agree with you, I think the I want to get
back to stat in the second. I think that Triple
Threat was my favorite match of the night in terms
of like in ring action, but that main event was
a close second for me.
Speaker 3 (01:06:08):
That it may actually be my number one. It was
now that now that I reflect on how how great
it was.
Speaker 2 (01:06:15):
In terms of storytelling and in ring action, it was
the best match on the cards, if you want to
go overall made event won by not not a mile,
but like it won, but in terms of like just
sheer in ring action. I really really enjoyed, like I
really enjoyed that triple threat that had a story in it,
but it was Okada versus Takesha and then Dorada going
(01:06:37):
like no, I'm gonna let you know.
Speaker 1 (01:06:39):
But that wasn't this.
Speaker 2 (01:06:40):
This was the champ going there's another current champ trying
to fight me right now, and this guy isn't ready
and I'm letting him know.
Speaker 1 (01:06:47):
And I'm with Taz. I hate that phrase.
Speaker 2 (01:06:50):
I Uh, I just really wanted that that story has
just it just feels like it's been there for a while.
And number one before I get your thoughts here, especially
about stat I just feel so good for her. We've
been fans, we've talked about her forever. I think that
(01:07:10):
this show wasn't just about having you know, we had
all out. We always have all out. This is one
of our marquee shows. I think it was about letting
everyone else know that this company is loaded with stars
and that we don't have to go. Oh, Kenny's gone
(01:07:31):
and Will is gone, and these other people are out
because of injury again Kenny swerve Wardlow, there's a lot
of people that are out. Yeah, it means and O
C is coming back. They tease OC coming back Reunited,
(01:07:51):
Jurassic Express, Kyle Fletcher just being an absolute megastar in
the ring. You just have so much talent that you
just show located and planted seeds for either a continuation
of a story because John Moxley is probably still on
fire somewhere. You have so many things that happened in
this event that were either unhinged. The fork, the I
(01:08:14):
mean all that entire Coffin match and the aftermath was
just they always find a way to make me go
Hugh and also, holy shit, that was awesome. You could
do both of those things. Aw is so good at that.
I think this was really a no. We're doing just fine,
thank you very much. And we have an incredibly talented
(01:08:36):
roster with an incredible, incredibly entertaining product that you want
to tune in to see, and we don't have to
rely only on our biggest stars. Those are just more
of an incentive to come in when they're back where
we can showcase all of our younger talent already being
giant stars. This is the time where you build the future.
When the present is out they're hurt, you build up
(01:08:59):
for the future, so that when they're no longer wrestling
full time or gone, we got all this established stuff.
So I'm super excited coming out of this. Man, I'm
actually stoked for Wednesday. I for Wressell Uh Wressell Palooza.
I was like that happened. I don't have any questions
about Monday or Friday. I don't really care. The only
(01:09:21):
question I have is who's who's next up? Or who's
first up for Steph?
Speaker 1 (01:09:26):
Who's next for Cody?
Speaker 3 (01:09:27):
That it will be well chronicled on GI Steph fuck
it versus Riha Ripley? What a time? Well, I wonder
if I mean, maybe not immediately, but that's eventually the match.
Speaker 1 (01:09:40):
Yeah, but what are they doing with Julia?
Speaker 3 (01:09:43):
I mean I was going to bring that up unless
you wanted to.
Speaker 2 (01:09:45):
I feel like that they could easily do that. I
was just thinking about aw and how I don't know
where that contract is headed. It feels like it feels
like a familiar pattern.
Speaker 3 (01:09:56):
Mm hm m m yeah. Well yeah, and Bailey. When
when Bailey's time comes. I mean, I'm not saying it's
gonna be I'm not saying you wear a Chris Statlanders shirt.
You know, showing your love for her after her win,
and that means you're definitely signing with AW. But I
think if we were to look at all the potential
contracts that are her best friends and Bailey, it seems
(01:10:18):
like she's done everything she can, hopefully everything she's wanted
to just about AWE and that, like you said, the
move is going to be signing with AW and we'll
get maybe a Mercedes tag run, maybe a Mercedes feud,
and it's gonna be. It's gonna it would be a
great addition to the.
Speaker 1 (01:10:33):
One Bailey Bailey in a hardcore match too.
Speaker 3 (01:10:36):
Sure. I'm sure she would get to fear man and
do Yeah, absolutely.
Speaker 2 (01:10:39):
Getting to do all the things she hasn't been able
to do since. I would love Bailey and AW. I
think she would be a natural fit because she's a
great just off the cuff, promo person.
Speaker 3 (01:10:49):
Locker room leader, biology Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:10:51):
Everybody seems to love working with her and loves her
in general. I know there she's close with. I believe
I might be wrong about this, but I'm pretty sure
she's close with ftr UH and they text and so yeah, yeah, yeah,
I'm pretty I'm pretty sure Jack's when they were doing
the podcast was talking about that, and it's just uh yeah,
I just think it would be really interesting and it
(01:11:12):
would be a lot of fun to see her over there,
and they maybe they renaite the golden role models.
Speaker 3 (01:11:16):
And I remember when Dax's Hardwood had a podcast that
was great.
Speaker 1 (01:11:20):
That's a great podcast.
Speaker 2 (01:11:21):
Yeah uh, And then it became too much personally, and
I feel bad about that, but I would listen to
that again.
Speaker 1 (01:11:27):
That was fun. Tyler, Uh, stat Lander, give me your thoughts.
Speaker 3 (01:11:32):
Yeah, man, this was so unexpected.
Speaker 1 (01:11:36):
That reacted that way.
Speaker 3 (01:11:37):
Yeah. Yeah, like what Seatbell cover. And for her to
pin Tony, We've just been so conditioned as as fans
to believe that, Okay, if it's a fatal four way,
if the champ's not gonna win, they're certainly not going
to be the one to get pinned. But for stat
to pin Tony wild, for Tony to be shocked, and
and for the character to maybe have gotten uh you know,
(01:12:00):
a bit too confident and oh yeah, sign me up.
I'll take on all three of you at all out.
Let's do it. For that to come back to bite
her and for her to lose her title and maybe
the sense of invincibility as the character timeless Tony Storm
Ye displayed. I thought, it's brilliant, and maybe maybe we
don't see Tony Storm for a few weeks and then
it comes back, and yeah, the next part maybe the
(01:12:22):
movies you run, you know, a match between christat Lander
Tony Storm for wrestl dream. We shall see. But to
crown Chris Statlander after Statlander said on TV, you know,
leading up to this show, I've never held this championship.
You know, I'm one of the originals. I'm a homegrown talent,
and I've just I've got opportunities, but i haven't won
(01:12:43):
the big one. For us to get the Chris Statlander
win in such unexpected fashion, I loved it. Brad clearly
was a popular decision with the fans, and in my
notes I sort of categorize or summarize the show as
flowers for the originals. So for Jurassic Express to this
bad moment for Chris Statlander to pick up the win,
for the tease of Orange, Cassidy coming home on Wednesday,
(01:13:05):
for hanging yeah exactly, yeah, yeah, yeah. This was In
many ways, this was reminiscent to me of the all
out following CM Punk's exit. This would have been twenty
twenty two or twenty twenty three, when expectations by and
large or relatively low for that show now all out
twenty twenty five for different reasons, for injuries and other purposes.
(01:13:30):
You know, maybe they're not being as much excitement for
this show overall as a you know, all in Texas
or maybe even as a forbidden door. And maybe this
is just me, but for the excitements maybe not be
as high as those previous two shows. The talent Tony
Kahan completely over delivered, and not just over delivered, but
leaned into giving flowers to the homegrown talent, including Chris Statlander.
(01:13:54):
To your point, Brad, you also tweeted about this to
also showcase a talent like Kyle Fletcher. Okay, if Kenny
Swerve and Osprey are unavailable, what are we going to
do on this show, and particularly what are we going
to do for the main event. Let's elevate a younger talent.
I thought it was brilliant, although on the marquee, maybe
that it doesn't pop as much as some of your
(01:14:16):
previous main events for pay per views this year. To
elevate Kyle Fletcher to that match, even though we knew
he was not going to beat Hangman Page. For him
to get that spot and to predictably show out the
way he did, I thought this was a huge win
for aew and you and I have spoken on and
off their about who's going to be who's next up
(01:14:37):
for AW, particularly in that men's division. We got our
answer is Kyle Fletcher. He could very well be the guy.
He could very well be the guy to beat Hangman.
I'm trying to think of a comp for Kyle Fletcher's ascension,
and I'm having a hard time choosing someone else, even
in wrestling, brad of someone within the last year, the
last twelve to sixteen months, twelve seventy back care. Yeah,
(01:15:01):
maybe that's the only other comp for someone to rise
and to just become so undeniable as a singles talent.
You know Kyle Fletcher. Oh, he's a tag team guy
with Mark Davis. That's fun. They'll be tag champs. Unfortunately,
Mark Davis gets injured, Kyle Fletcher gets swollen, gets tattoos,
and gets even better in the ring and showcases himself
on the mic. I just thought, what a way to
(01:15:22):
elevate a talent and to really wrap this PEP re
view up in a way that gets you excited. Like
you said to tune in on Wednesday to tune into
I'm sorry, to tune in for Dynamite, to tune into Collision,
and then you know, you may very well have the
answer of who is your next World Champ after Hangman.
You could tell me it's Kyle Fletcher, and I would
(01:15:42):
have no issue with that at all. I actually think
that would be a great move.
Speaker 1 (01:15:45):
Maybe it was Montest forward.
Speaker 4 (01:15:48):
Yeah, and then and then whatever, and then it just yeah,
j nothing, Jimmy's Jimmy got hurt, which is the only
reason we got main event j AU so right, that
story line existed because of the injury to jim And
then it was the bending the knee, and what came
out of that was, yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:16:04):
God, Fletcher's so good man. And and in a faction
with don Kal's family where you have Okada you have
to catch to he just really stands out as just
having it. The entrance theme is a bop, The pink
gear is fire, the entering war.
Speaker 1 (01:16:18):
Like, he's just the glasses with the dangles.
Speaker 3 (01:16:20):
Yes, he just has, he just has, He just has everything.
And Hangman is completely the right person to be your
standard bearer right now, Chris status World Champ. We have
Tarzan boy back. I mean we are we are so
up right now. Yeah, I can't wait for Wednesday, can't wait.
Speaker 1 (01:16:38):
For Yeah, I'm I'm, I'm.
Speaker 3 (01:16:41):
Mercedes is in the Mercedes exists. She's putting on great
matches every time, Like, what a what a time? Well,
love it great?
Speaker 1 (01:16:49):
Tyler, you brought it up.
Speaker 2 (01:16:50):
You said that it does feel like we're giving the
flowers to the originals. Mercedes just got our flowers from you.
But we have one more flower, one in particular on
this show here that we love more of the most.
Those are roses. So cue up the music.
Speaker 1 (01:17:02):
It's time for a rose from Tyler, and now for.
Speaker 3 (01:17:10):
A rose from GI's most Eligible Bachelor, Brad. I caught
some heat over the last week or so. I want
to make this very clear to our audience. I never
I'm pretty sure I never said that I was out
on Batch as an entire franchise. You know, I will,
I will go back and forth. I'll be in my field.
(01:17:33):
It was Badge in Paradise, yeah, Mike's depth. It was
Batch in Paradise specifically, but Batch of Paradise is in
the past now and I love you. Were falling gray
to you by the way, shout.
Speaker 2 (01:17:44):
Out phone, Oh yeah, yeah, thank you, yeah, shout out, shutout,
got to wear mine.
Speaker 3 (01:17:47):
Golden Bachelor is back, Brad. This caught me off guard.
I didn't realize it's our speaking of TV on Wednesday. Uh,
it's emanating on Wednesday. This will be the second edition.
Season two, Uh is premiering. It is on the horizon.
We know that the inaugural edition, the first season of
The Golden Bachelor. Tumultuous is the first word I think of.
(01:18:09):
There was a lot of potential, and it just it
was the classic case if it was good until it wasn't.
Of course, Gary Turner, we've spoken about this on here
on GI it just turned out to be. It turned
out to be a total farce. I even know people
in my life who have said they're never watching Golden
Bachelor Golden Bachelorette again because they felt so tricked by
(01:18:30):
how that first season went down. But I'm here to
tell you there was a new Golden Bachelor with a
potential Winchester connection. Mel Owens, a sixty six year old
retired NFL lineberg linebacker and former Michigan Wolverine is this
season's lead. He is now in Orange County, California based lawyer.
(01:18:51):
There are twenty three women who are going to be
vying for his heart on this season. Now, Brad, all
of this scenes promising, I will tell you. Mel Owens
made an appearance on a podcast earlier in the summer
that I learned about. It was a Michigan Wolverine centric
football podcast, and they asked him about his career but
also his thoughts on being selected as the Golden Bachelor. Again,
(01:19:14):
this was back in June already, and he had a
comment on that show in which he was transparent, maybe
a little bit too much, Brad. He said his ideal
woman would be between the ages of forty five to sixty. Again,
he's sixty six looking for a partner who's between forty
five and sixty. And he said, and I quote if there,
he said. He told this to the production team as well,
(01:19:35):
if they're over sixty, I'm cutting them. So we love
honesty here, We value honesty here on the podcast. You
just got to be a little more savvy about what
you should say and what you should not say if
they're over sixty I'm cutting them, Brad. I'm here to
tell you there are several women on this season's cast,
(01:19:58):
several of the twenty three who are over sixty and
look amazing.
Speaker 1 (01:20:03):
But by my account, one is under it.
Speaker 3 (01:20:06):
Yeah, that's correct. It bags all of them are over sixty.
So you and I were looking at at the full roster,
the full cast before we recorded. There are women from
across the country. I don't see any cast members from Arizona,
which is disappointing, but California is well represented, Florida, Nevada, Jersey, right,
(01:20:28):
so on and so forth. I just want to quickly
highlight two women. There is Andra, who is seventy seven
from LA She's a retired federal worker. She is the
sister of Sandra from season one, so we love that.
And also, this is who I predict is gonna win. Brad,
you tease this a moment ago. Maya is a college
(01:20:49):
sports consultant from Malibu, California. She is fifty eight, so
she's the only cast member under sixty. She has the
sports background. She lives in California, as does mel so
commute wise, that seems like that would be seamless. I
think I think this is clear that Maya is winning
it all, and hopefully mel rebounds from those comments over
(01:21:12):
the summer. Hopefully he doesn't fumble the way Gary Turner did,
and we'll see what's in store. Brad. I'm really eager
to see if mel Owens is that dude. I feel
like there's a lot of potential candidates you could look
for in terms of who's going to be the lead
for season two, who can write the ship, who can
have a feel good story this season. I don't know
if mel Owens is that dude. Nothing against the Michigan Wolverine,
(01:21:35):
but I hope he learned from that summer podcast Apperiods
and maybe the answer is, you know, Maya's winning this thing.
The riding was on the wall this entire time. But
hopefully we're in for an entertaining, non problematic season of
the Golden Batch.
Speaker 2 (01:21:49):
Here kicks off this one, said, I sure hope so,
because the last one was rough, so bad, man, I
mean the burger stand, the Lion, yes, him kicking be injured.
Speaker 3 (01:22:02):
And then he learned Teresa Teresa have money, and he said, okay,
I'm going with Teresa Maya.
Speaker 2 (01:22:07):
Maya is giving me a little bit of Jamie Gertz,
Jamie Gertz, h Tyler, did you ever see the original Twister?
I'm pretty sure we had that conversation. You haven't, I
still have it. We're not American. I'm sending you a
picture of Jamie Gertz that area era. By the way,
(01:22:27):
I had a huge crush on her when I was
like fourteen, when when it's Maya, I was like, she's
giving me Jamie Gertz and Twister vibes and that, and
I was like, okay, a little bit different, but like
I saw that, I was like, okay, and she's into
sports and and she's younger than everybody unless unless she's
(01:22:50):
I don't know. We'll find out. We'll see what happens
when when they start talking. We we have no idea
because because I'm kind of hoping that it is Andra.
Speaker 3 (01:23:00):
Correct, I don't know. I just went with Andrew.
Speaker 2 (01:23:05):
I'm pretty sure no, because it was Sandra not Sandra.
And I guarantee Andre and Sandra or what happened in
that household, like guarantee that's.
Speaker 3 (01:23:13):
What happened in there for sure. So I would love
for her to advance far. I just think my is
and there are twins right like there are. I believe
in twins, So so.
Speaker 2 (01:23:24):
Let's hope for our entertainment sake that the personality is
also twin because I'm here for the chaos as incredibly understanding.
So yeah, so uh I might check that out. I
while you were speaking, I sent the link to Jess
just to let her know what's coming.
Speaker 1 (01:23:42):
Tyler. It's that time. What do we miss?
Speaker 3 (01:23:45):
What do we miss? I have one note actually for
do we miss today? The Mighty Phoenix Mercury. They did it.
Oh my goodness, they they did it. They defeated the
defending champs, the New York Liberty, and a really riveting
three game series. Lost the first game at home in Phoenix,
(01:24:09):
just totally molly wapped the Liberty in New York, and
they came back and just a suspenseful action pac game.
They won. Like you said, they're advancing. We're recording this
just a few hours before they tip off against the
Minnesota Lynx in Minnesota, number one seed. Tough draw. This
is going to be a phenomenal series. You know. I
(01:24:33):
picked Minnesota to win it all during our recording with
the Great Desmond Palative to the games on nineteen media.
I don't know that I'm ready to waiver from that prediction,
but I've been so impressed with what Phoenix has done
this year. I hope they beat Minnesota. I hope they're
on their path to the WNBA Finals. A shout out
to the Phoenix Mercury, the city. Man, It's just it's special.
(01:24:54):
I have a lot of people in my life, even
new people at the school who I met this year,
fellow teachers and staff who loved them, some Phoenix Mercury,
and there's just something unique about the Phoenix Mercury experience. Yes,
the Suns are are awesome, Yes we root for them,
but my goodness, Brad, this is another reminder that the
Mercury are the premier basketball franchise in Phoenix. They did
(01:25:15):
it again. We didn't expect much from them this year,
at least at least I didn't, and here we are.
They're one of the four teams remaining and have a
viable path to a championship. I love the Phoenix Mercury.
Here we go.
Speaker 2 (01:25:26):
Well, I think I think one of the surprising Maybe
I shouldn't be surprised, but was like the the Fever,
being able to pull through without their top player.
Speaker 3 (01:25:36):
And listen, no one's giving them a shot against the Aces.
Asia Wilson named m v P first time I believe
to be a foursome MVP amazing the goat.
Speaker 2 (01:25:45):
Right, you know, but you were when I was looking
down earlier. It was because I was getting updates on
Asia Wilson having a having a game already, so I
have a feeling that they might be right.
Speaker 3 (01:25:56):
Oh yeah, they're playing all right, they might be up
double digits.
Speaker 2 (01:25:59):
Yeah, Well, to your point, like, it was a heck
of a series. And when I checked the score, it
was second quarter in the Mercury. In that game, three
were up big and Beth didn't stay that way for
the whole game.
Speaker 1 (01:26:10):
So you never know.
Speaker 2 (01:26:12):
It's basketball, especially play off basketball. No matter who's playing,
it can be unpredictable, or it can be just kind
of dry, kind of boring and exactly what you expect
in a beat down.
Speaker 1 (01:26:21):
But you just never know.
Speaker 2 (01:26:23):
That's why sports are fun. That's why pro wrestling is fun.
That's why all this is fun.
Speaker 3 (01:26:28):
Yeah, yeah, that it is.
Speaker 1 (01:26:29):
Well.
