Speaker 1 (00:06):
Good news for lefties and America. Welcome and thank you
for listening to good news for Lefties. I don't usually
do this, but I saw a story that tickled my
funny bone, and I felt I had to come to
the mic directly break format a little bit. I let
you know a while back that I would be doing
(00:27):
that from time to time, and we are in the
future going to be doing some good news deep dives,
some actual interviews. We have one scheduled for next month
with Bishop Buddy.
Speaker 2 (00:41):
The.
Speaker 1 (00:43):
Member of the clergy who, during I believe it was
the invocation or the convocation or whatever religious acknowledgment of
the inauguration there was back in January said to Donald
Trump basically stand up for human beings. And this, of
(01:03):
course was taken as a grave insult by Donald Trump,
because Donald Trump doesn't care too much for human beings.
But if anyone can bring some good news to good
news for lefties, I feel it's Bishop Buddy. So we're
going to be talking about that in the second half
of September, and you'll be hearing some good news deep
(01:23):
dives even prior to that point. But I felt that
I had to come to you today and talk about
this story now it involves Gavin Newsom. There are a
lot of things I don't like about Gavin Newsom, but
the key thing is he is fighting. He is engaging
in a fight, both political and legal and media oriented
(01:50):
against Donald Trump, and I like that. I like that spirit.
I'm not sure I would vote for him for president,
but he's fighting the good fight, and I got to
give him credit for that, because we need to stand
up and we need to attack and mock and ride
this president absolutely. California Governor Gavin Newsom trolled President Trump
(02:16):
with a social media post Tuesday, declaring a second to
last warning in the ongoing blue state red state battle
over redistricting, ribbing Trump over his polling, squishy deadlines, and
distinctive communication style. So basically, he is parioding Donald Trump
(02:37):
and the way that he posts in all caps, constantly
self referential, and I really got to kick out of this.
Here it goes. This is what Governor Gavin Newsom posted.
Donald Trump, the lowest polling president in recent history. This
is your second to the last warning. Three exclamation points,
(02:59):
the next one the last one. Stand down now or
California will counter strike legally. Exclamation point to destroy.
Speaker 2 (03:08):
Your illegal crooked maps in Red States press conference coming
hosted by America's favorite governor, Gavin Newsom. Final warning next
you won't like it.
Speaker 1 (03:18):
Three exclamation points. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
The White House didn't immediately respond to a request for
comment on Newsom's post. I thought that was awesome. Now again,
I have some serious criticisms of Gavin Newsom. He's not
(03:42):
my favorite person in the world. I don't think he
is progressive enough. But he's fighting. He is fighting, and
for that and for this in particular, I give him props. Newsom,
who is seen as a potential contender for the twenty
(04:04):
twenty eight Democratic presidential nomination, sent a letter to Trump
on Monday urging the president to end the redistricting tit
for tat that has swelled in States amid a battle
over Trump's call for Texas to draw a map more
favorable to Republicans. I also don't like the idea of gerrymandering,
whether Republicans or Democrats do it. In this case, in
(04:30):
order to stop Republicans who have become openly fascist at
this point, from taking over the government by illegal means.
I think Newsom and other governors in states like New
York have to take this approach. It's a short term solution.
(04:51):
We can't keep just fighting fire with fire or everybody
gets burned. But I think it's important that this be
done now, at this time, because far worse will happen
if we don't. So, with all due respect to some
of the great folks out there who have been talking
(05:12):
about this issue for a long time, like Dave Day,
who I've been speaking with off and on for many
many years, I think this is something that has to
be done in order to prevent calamity. Now do you
undo things when you have a calamity after the emergency
is over. Absolutely, and that must be done. We need
(05:35):
a thoroughgoing restructuring of the system in order to prevent
us from having another authoritarian regime come to place. That's
assuming that we survive this one. But that is a
little piece of good news that I wanted to bring
to you today because he really does. Kevin Newsom does
(05:59):
have of Trump's tone down. I'm glad he's throwing it
right back at him, so in that respect, good for him.
You can go to good News for Lefties dot com
for more information on the show and to get your
regular fix, of course, on wherever you're listening right now,
and thank you very much for listening. We will return
(06:22):
into regularly scheduled programming tomorrow. Bye bye,
