Speaker 1 (00:06):
Hello, and thanks for joining this breaking episode of good
news for Lefties. I'm bea Wolf Rockland, your host. A
federal judge delivered a major victory for public workers and
the rule of law wednesday, halting Donald Trump's attempt to
fire thousands of federal employees during the ongoing government shutdown.
The decision, issued by US District Judge Suzanne Yvonne Ilston,

(00:28):
temporarily blocks the administration's layoffs and reasserts that even in
a shutdown, leaders cannot skirt basic legal protections or treat
public servants as expendable. Judge Ilston found that the administration's
plan to sidestep Congress and purge workers through reductions in
force flagrantly violated federal law. In her words, you can't

(00:50):
do this in a nation of laws. The order, which
takes effect immediately, came after federal employee unions sued to
protect their members from what they called an unlawful power
disguised as budget management. The ruling represents a sharper buke
to a White House increasingly hostile toward the career workforce
that keeps public services running. Worker protections have been under

(01:12):
siege since the shutdown began. With more than four thousand
employees already told to pack up sky Perryman, president of
Democracy Forward, called the court's ruling a strong message that
no president can play games with Americans' livelihoods and get
away with it. Federal employees, many of whom have organized
sit ins and demonstrations across the country, celebrated the decision

(01:34):
as both a relief and a reminder of collective power.
Unions vowed to continue pressing for reinstatement and back pay
as the shutdown drags on. The Court's decision stands as
a reminder that ordinary workers, through solidarity and persistence, still
have the law and each other on their side. That's
a wrap for this breaking edition of good News for Lefties.
