It helps more lefties like you hear more good news
stories and stay positive and motivated for the days ahead. Now,
let's get to some good news headlines designed to brighten
(00:49):
your day. Oregon Governor Tina Kotec has threatened to investigate
and prosecute federal agents who violate the law during immigration
rate aids in the state of Oregon. In a video
on Instagram, Kotech accused the Department of Homeland Security of
carrying out violent actions and stoking fear in the name
(01:11):
of immigration enforcement. Kotech also said the state would investigate
misconduct and hold federal officers accountable. I believe, as you do,
in the rule of law and keeping our community safe,
Kotech said, we also believe in being a welcoming place
where our immigrant and refugee communities help our state thrive.
(01:32):
The ongoing violent actions of the Federal Department of Homeland
Security are unacceptable, going after Ouriconians and stoking fear in
the name of immigration enforcement. Kotech continued to explain that
the use of excessive force, reckless tactics, and putting bystanders
and law enforcement in danger was not how public safety works.
(01:55):
Oregon is monitoring all ICE actions closely, Kotech added, we
will investigate misconduct and if a federal officer breaks Oregon law,
they will be held accountable just like anyone else. I
will not tolerate reckless or unconstitutional behavior in our state.
(02:15):
A South Carolina bill that would allow judges to sentence
women who get abortions two decades in prison and could
restrict the use of IUDs and in vitro fertilization has
stalled after failing to get out of a legislative subcommittee.
Four of the six Republicans on the subcommittee refused to
vote on the bill, which would ban all abortions unless
(02:37):
the woman's life is threatened. The three Democrats were able
to vote against sending the bill forward. At that point,
the proposal is not dead, but the effort did reveal
a lack of support for the most extreme positions among
groups opposing abortions. If the bill had been sent to
the full Medical Affairs Committee, it would have gone further
(02:58):
than any other such pos across the US since the
Supreme Court overturned Roe versus Wade in twenty twenty two.
In declining to vote on the bill, Republican state Senator
Jeff Zell said he wants to stop as many abortions
as possible, but that most people aren't interested in such
extreme positions. He said other issues are more important to
(03:19):
South Carolina residents. Before we get back to the news,
I want to tell you about an important podcast called
This Week Again, hosted by Suzanne Posel. It takes a
humorous look at politics and current events one week at
a time. It's a funny, angry, progressive, sarcastic, hilarious podcast
(03:40):
that drops every Sunday, and, in my opinion, is the
largest single repository of creatively insulting names for Donald Trump.
Mango Mussolini, and Orange Julius Caesar are just the beginning.
So if you want to recap of the week and
you want a laugh into the bargain. Listen to This
Week Again with Suzanne post on this platform or wherever
(04:02):
you listen to podcasts. That's This Week Again with Suzanne

from the Dominican Republic, opened his first family owned grocery
(04:23):
store in Queens, New York, Compare Foods. Compare Stores now
has nine stores in the Charlotte, North Carolina area, growth
that blossomed due to changing demographics in the area, with
forty five percent growth in the state's Latino population between
twenty ten and twenty twenty two. Compare Foods prides itself
(04:44):
on offering international and Latin American products, often acting as
the premier option for immigrant families in the US South.
When Ice began deploying to Charlotte and Droves, Compare Foods
announced that customers who didn't feel comfortable leaving the high
House to shop in person can use the code no
Fee twenty twenty five for free delivery or pickup on
(05:07):
online grocery orders through the end of the year. Our
goal is that you can receive your products with peace
of mind from the comfort of your home, with the
same freshness and quality as always. Compare Foods wrote in
the caption of the video, we continue to work for you,
reinforcing our commitment to the community that has trusted us
(05:27):
for so many years. We are here for you with respect, empathy,
and genuine care. Customers who still want to visit the
store can utilize an Uber rights program on qualifying purchases.
According to the grocery chain, CEO Eligio Pennez said of Charlotte,
it has always been a city that has welcomed immigrants
(05:49):
and foreigners. A company that sought a data center development
in Kolkaska County, Michigan, announced it is dropping the concept
after clear opposition from the community. Geologist Matt Ran with
rock Locker LLC said the company is ending it's pursuit
of a data center in Kalkaska County and canceled the
(06:12):
last community meeting he had scheduled to gauge public sentiment
on the idea. We sought public input because we wanted
to be partners with the community we live and work in,
and we heard you, Ryan said in a statement. Ryan
initially pitched plans for a hyper scale data center on
fourteen hundred and forty acres of state land, he said
(06:33):
would include a gigawatt scale facility with a devoted natural
gas plan for the data center. A sometimes raucus crowd
at a community meeting proved overwhelmingly against the concept of
building a data center, particularly on state land, which was
part of Ryan's initial idea. At the meeting, Ryan said
he could pivot and instead pursue a data center on
(06:55):
private land, but now he's dropping the whole idea, he said.
Michigan Department of Natural Resources officials have said the door
is shut to this idea on public land in Kalkaska.
Up next, a listener suggested story back at a minute,
(07:15):
and now a listener suggested story from Nelson In Santa Rosa, California,
beloved drag queen, performer and environmentalist Pattygonia has long used
her platforms to advocate for the planet as well as diversity,
equity and inclusion in the outdoor industry, but now her
heels are taking her to new heights. In a video announcement, Patty,
(07:38):
whose off stage name is Wynn Wiley, shared that she
will be backpacking one hundred miles in full drag with
a goal of raising one million dollars for a variety
of causes. She's starting at a spot about one hundred
miles north of San Francisco and plans to spend a
week backpacking along the coast until she reaches the heart
(07:59):
of the Bay. I'll be getting in drag every single day,
setting up camp every single night, crossing the Golden Gate Bridge,
and into my final show of the year, that is,
if I can make it in time, she said in
the video. Patty will end her journey celebrating with fans
and friends at a drag show on December sixth at
San Francisco's The Warfield. Thanks so much for that story, Nelson.

Days ahead of a self imposed December first deadline, Portland,
Oregon Mayor Keith Wilson said his administration remains on track
to meet its goal of adding fifteen hundred shelter beds
in the city. Mayor Wilson met with reporters at the
Salvation Armies Northwest Northrop Shelter, which opened in September and
drew heavy criticism from neighborhoods concerned about safety, crime, and
(09:07):
impacts on quality of life. By the numbers, Mayor Wilson
says he is on target. He said there are one thousand,
one hundred beds open or set to open soon, with
another four hundred in reserve. Since taking office, Mayor Wilson
has rolled out hundreds of beds across five overnight shelters,
including two hundred at the Northrop site. Sleeping outside takes
(09:30):
its toll on people, and we're really seeing people open
up and begin to address some of their personal and
health needs, said Justin Mushkowski, executive director of Salvation Army's
Moltnoma County Shelters. Mayor Wilson said he is now working
with the city Council and Moltnomah County to set next
year's homelessness targets, with a focus on moving people into
(09:51):
twenty four to seven and treatment focused shelters. He also
highlighted steps his administration has taken toward affordable housing, including
temporary early waiving system development charges on new residential projects.

Here's what you've been missing on the Stephanie Miller Happy
Hour podcast. MS Pharma, Virginia Jeffries ghostwriter just dropped a
bombshell in which she's saying every single name from the
Epstein files plus private recordings back it all up, and
France apparently has copies of everything.
Speaker 3 (11:10):
Like the country of France.
Speaker 2 (11:11):
Yes, yeah, I mean they're saying a lot of foreign
intelligence agencies probably have this, which makes me feel better
that they're not going to be able to rush these
obviously scrubbed.
Speaker 3 (11:20):
Of course, Russia.
Speaker 2 (11:22):
Yes. Why do you think Trump's been getting dog wacked
by net and Yahoo and putin for how many years?
Speaker 3 (11:26):
Jeanie rus Russia, Russia?
Speaker 2 (11:28):
Yes, yes, yes, yeah, she's saying. Oh, she's sitting on
every single name from the Epstein file. I'm sorry, Virginia
Jeffries ghostwriter, plus private recordings to back it all up.
Speaker 3 (11:38):
So yeah, between that private intelligence, I.
Speaker 1 (11:40):
Wouldn't be surprised if there was like a watergeight style
break into the ghostwriter's house to steal all of this information.
Speaker 3 (11:47):
Right, That's what Nixon did, right, by the way.
Speaker 2 (11:50):
You know, how you really know when someone is completely
full of oh is when there's too many words, you know, wordy,
wordy talkie talkie.
Speaker 3 (11:56):

Speaker 3 (12:20):
Not the Democrats was a lifelong Democrats.
Speaker 2 (12:22):
Don't it do Democrat, But addiction is with dbs, with
many well known Democrats. This latest hoax well backfire for
the Democrats, just as all the rest of them have.

Speaker 2 (12:37):
So and in between their words words, words, wordy wordy words, words, words, words,

Speaker 3 (12:41):
The occasional all caps yeah it's okay, with the scribblings
of a crazy person.
Speaker 1 (12:47):
Yes, yes, And in case you missed it, here's this
good news headline. The University of Pennsylvania's graduate workers' union
overwhelmingly voted to authorize a strike, following over a year
(13:08):
of contract negotiations with the university administrators and a three
day long voting period that began on November eighteenth. Ninety
two percent of votes cast were in favor of authorizing
a strike, approving graduate employees together University of Pennsylvania's bargaining
committee to call a work stoppage at its discretion if
(13:29):
a strike is called. Penn Graduate workers a group that
encompasses those who are employed in teaching or research roles
during the fall of twenty twenty five or spring twenty
twenty six semesters would stop performing work duties. The union's
FAQ page describes a potential strike as a last resort,
(13:49):
adding the decision to strike will only be made if
the bargaining committee deems that the circumstances necessitated. The next
bargaining session is scheduled for December fourth, According to the union,
twenty four hundred and sixteen votes were cast, twenty two
hundred and twenty nine in favor of authorization and one
hundred and eighty seven against. According to the union's press release,
(14:12):
more than seventy percent of the roughly thirty four hundred
eligible employees voted in the election. After one full year
of negotiations, PEN administrators have still failed to agree to
a contract that includes fair wages, improved benefits, and strong
support for international workers, the union wrote in a press release.
(14:33):
The statement also emphasized that the union has tried to
engage the university through other means, including an October picket line,
public petitions, and a November press conference. The union has
been negotiating its contract with PENN during bargaining session since
October of twenty twenty four.
