Episode 3: Meet Lady Wisdom

The Woman Who Gets the Joke

Episodes 1 and 2 have been cerebral: Are we reading Ecclesiastes correctly? Where does wisdom come from?

Episode 3 is beautiful.

Qohelet is well-meaningly sweating, investigating, experimenting, trying to make the universe yield its secrets. Lady Wisdom is already there, delighting in God's purposes--dancing. She understand what Q cannot because...

What if you believe God loves you…
but you don't really feel loved by Him?

What if you've spent years trying harder—praying more, reading more, serving more, trying to sin less—yet somewhere inside you still wonder:

“Am I really enough for God?”

That's the question behind my new book, Good Enough Christian: Experiencing the Love of Jesus When You Don't Feel Enough.

For the entire month of October, ...

Episode 2: Three Ways to Survive the World

Where Does Wisdom Come From?

The big idea:

The first podcast creates the suspicion: “Wait—maybe I’ve been reading Ecclesiastes wrong.”

Session 2 is designed to give you listeners the decoder ring they’ll need for the rest of the series.

Everybody needs wisdom because everybody is tr...

Everything is meaningless.”

Episode 13 — The Darkness Before the King (Finale)

We’ve reached the end of the book of Judges.

And it ends in one of the darkest stories in the entire Bible.

A story of violence.

Cowardice.

Sexual brutality.

And moral collapse.

The narrator frames the entire section with the same haunting line:

“In those days Israel had no king.”

And what follows s...

Episode 12 — “No King in the Land”

If Disney had written the story of Israel…
it ends with unity, gratitude, worship songs echoing across the hills.

But that’s not how it goes.

Instead, the defining line of the book of Judges is this:

“Everyone did what was right in their own eyes.”

And here’s the uncomfortable truth&mdas...

We will see what you think.

Episode 9 – Jephthah: When We Worship the Wrong God

What happens when people use the name of God…
but no longer know who He really is?

They pray.
They worship.
They make promises to God.

But the God they imagine looks more like the gods of their culture than the God of Scripture.

That’s the tragedy we encounter in today’s story.

The story ...

Episode 8 – Gideon: Victory… and the Drift (Part 2)

What happens when people who once knew God slowly forget Him?

Not all at once.
Not with open rebellion.

But little compromises… quiet idols… and decisions that seem perfectly reasonable.

Welcome to the world of Judges.

The Book of Judges is the story of broken people, bad choices… and ...

Episode 7: Gideon – The Coward in the Winepress (Part 1

Today we arrive at the central narrative of the book of Judges.

The story of Gideon.

And if Judges has been showing us the downward spiral of Israel, Gideon represents something important.

He represents Israel itself.

Weak.

Confused.

Spiritually insensitive.

Quick to blame God.

And yet… still chosen.

We w...

Today we come to one of the most remarkable stories in the entire book of Judges.

Welcome to Gospel Rant, and our new series on the book of Judges, Breaking Badly!

Imagine a nation collapsing.

Violence spreads.
Civil war erupts.
Families betray each other.
Faith disappears.

And somehow…
everyone still insists:

“We’re God’s people.”

That’s the book of Judges.

But here’s what’s shocking.

The collapse didn’t begin with war.

It began with something m...

Episode 5: Othniel and Ehud

Today we finally arrive at the first stories of the judges themselves.

But before we jump into those stories, it helps to remember how the book of Judges is structured.

Judges is not random storytelling. It is carefully arranged narrative.

The book begins with two prologues, which explain how Israel’s spiritual collapse began.

At the end o...

Episode 4: The Generation That Forgot

Today we arrive at the second prologue in the book of Judges.

The structure of Judges is fascinating.

The book begins with two prologues, which set up the problem.

Then come the stories of the judges themselves.

And finally the book ends with two epilogues, which show just how badly Israel ultimately breaks.

Today’s passage ...

Welcome back to Breaking Badly, our journey through one of the darkest—and most honest—books in the Bible: the book of Judges.

Over the centuries, powerful nations had filled the land.

Seven of them.

Each one militarily stronger than Israel.

Each one capable of tossing Israel around the ancient Near Eastern sandbox without much trouble.

This, in my opinion, is the #1 prayer of not only the New Testament, but both testaments. It was among the final words of Jesus to the Apostle John, on the last page of the Bible, and he commands us to pray this.

We are standing at the edge of the last page of the last book in the entire revelation of God.

Ink drying.

History trembling.

Heaven leans close.
