Speaker 1 (00:05):
Welcome to the Great Adventurers of Old Time Radio from Boise, Idaho.
This is your host, Adam Graham. In a moment, we're
going to get into today's episode of the Interplanetary Adventures
of Flash Gordon. But first I do want to encourage
you to check out our other podcast, and I'm highlighting

(00:28):
one of my older series, The War. This was something
that we did for the seventieth anniversary of D Day.
Was an entire series telling the story of World War
II through radio.

Speaker 2 (00:43):
From before Pearl Harbor.

Speaker 1 (00:45):
And even through the war and into the post war era.
We cover a lot of ground through adventure series, comedies, music, news,
and so much more. It is a collection that really
allowed to experience the war. Check it out The War
dot Great Detectives dot net. But now from July thirteenth

(01:07):
and July twentieth, nineteen thirty five, here are Chapter eleven
and Chapter twelve of The Interplanetary Adventures of Flash Gordon.

Speaker 3 (01:29):
Presenting the amazing Interplanetary Adventures of Flash Garden.

Speaker 2 (01:39):
Last week, after.

Speaker 3 (01:40):
Conquering the Hawkmen with a magic torpedo, Flash Gordon was
puzzled by the fact that Zarkov running out to meet
him with upraised hands had called him friends. Queen Azura
assured Flash that it had been a trick to disconcert him.
Then she ordered Tall to remove the frozen prisoners to
the palace and to take good care of Zarkov particularly.
All did as he was ordered. When doctor Zakhov was

(02:02):
brought back to life, he asked for Flash, and Paul
told him Flash was under the spell of the Queen's
drug of forgetfulness.

Speaker 2 (02:09):
Then doctor Zakhov was taken to.

Speaker 3 (02:10):
The kitchen, where he was reunited with Dale Arden, whom
he comforted by his promise to use his scientific powers
to aid them.

Speaker 2 (02:17):
All.

Speaker 3 (02:18):
Stung by the lashes of the electric whip, Zakhov saw
an opportunity for revenge and escape. The Queen's cooks were
roasting the meat between two flaming electrodes, so Zakhov, getting
Dale to attract their attention, jumped on a platform and
turned the flaming rays of an electrode on the cooks
and guards and ordered them to stand back. These thrilling
adventures come to you as they are pictured each Sunday

(02:39):
in the Big full page Comic Weekly, the world's greatest
pictorial supplement of humor and adventure.

Speaker 2 (02:45):
The big full page comic weekly.

Speaker 3 (02:47):
Each page printed in full colors is distributed everywhere as
an integral part of your Hearst Sunday newspaper.

Speaker 2 (03:03):

Speaker 3 (03:05):
Zarkov standing on the platform in the kitchens, the flaming

is calling.

of meat beside me. Can you find the Keysdale?

Speaker 4 (03:37):

Speaker 2 (03:39):
Unto your monacles. Now change those two together around that post.

Speaker 4 (03:48):

Speaker 4 (05:37):
Them the same way he did these?

Speaker 2 (05:39):
And then they'll change them, just like you are going

Speaker 9 (05:42):

Yes, then we can escape children, children.

Speaker 2 (06:48):
I see how fortunate it is that I was brought
here that would not do at all. Never do what
you can get someone else to do for you. What
do you mean we shall get control of the palace
all right, In fact, we shall have control of the
whole land.

Speaker 4 (07:02):
How wonderful.

Speaker 2 (07:03):
But we must proceed into one tea at a time.

Speaker 8 (07:06):
Well, then what's next?

Speaker 2 (07:07):
How said Flash was under the spell of the Queen's
drug forgetfulness? He did, and we were ripe all the time. Yes,
so you knew that day. Yes, then why did you
not find out how it was being given to him?

Speaker 9 (07:18):
May I did try, Pensaca. How I watched every morsel
of food that was sent to him. It was taken
from the same pans and kettles and Queen Azula's food. Well,
and nothing was put in it here in the kitchen.

Speaker 2 (07:27):
I apologize, Captain Khan, you are not wasting your time. Well, then,
if the drug was not put in the food before
it left the kitchen, when was it put in?

Speaker 7 (07:37):
So they all served the food to Flash, Well, what.

Speaker 2 (07:40):
Did you see when you serve the food Dale sooth.

Speaker 4 (07:42):
The Queen Flash took portions of the same dishes as
I passed them around. I never saw her make a
motion towards them after she helped herself.

Speaker 2 (07:49):
And the drug could not have been put in these
foodca here comes down God, he is just the man
we want to see.

Speaker 11 (07:57):
God.

Speaker 6 (07:58):
Where, why what are you doing? Chain like this?

Speaker 2 (08:03):
Just what you will be doing if you cause us
any trouble, Tiles or the prisoners. Stop to put your
hands off me yet right?

Speaker 7 (08:09):
I have him securely helped and soak of dark.

Speaker 2 (08:12):
Yes that is my name. Does it mean anything to you?

Speaker 10 (08:16):
You were the great scientist, the wizard of the earth people?

Speaker 8 (08:20):
Or that is true?

Speaker 4 (08:20):
Yes, that's the doctor zark Offfice.

Speaker 6 (08:23):
Now I understand the queen's orders.

Speaker 2 (08:25):
What were her orders?

Speaker 6 (08:26):
You were to be revived with particular care?

Speaker 2 (08:30):
Why may I ask?

Speaker 1 (08:31):
I see it all?

Speaker 12 (08:33):
Now?

Speaker 10 (08:33):
Aserra appointed Flash Gordon over me a commander in chief
of all the armies. Now she wants you carefully preserved.

Speaker 2 (08:41):
A fool that I am.

Speaker 6 (08:42):
Why couldn't I see it before?

Speaker 4 (08:44):
What is he talking about? Does anybody know?

Speaker 7 (08:47):
I'm sure I don't know, Princess.

Speaker 2 (08:48):
No, right, what are you talking about? Doubt?

Speaker 10 (08:51):
As there are plans to get rid of me. She's
planning on having you to replace me, and she's tired
of me. She wants you faces around her.

Speaker 6 (09:01):
She'd give me the.

Speaker 10 (09:01):
Drug of forgetfulness if it wasn't that I am the
only one who can make it for her. That's the
only thing that prevents her from doing away with me.

Speaker 2 (09:12):
It will be just one thing that will prevent us
from doing away with you. Towh What's that you're telling us?
How as you give splish the drug of forgetfulness?

Speaker 10 (09:21):
Yes you'd like to know that, wouldn't.

Speaker 2 (09:24):
You he would?

Speaker 6 (09:25):
Yes, Yes, of course, to be sure.

Speaker 2 (09:28):
And what is more? We mean to find out.

Speaker 4 (09:31):
More than he will admit. Maybe he carries the drug
on him.

Speaker 2 (09:35):
That is an idea worth considering. Thank you Dale.

Speaker 7 (09:38):
I'm on searching, Prince Acols.

Speaker 6 (09:40):
Yes, search, If you're like.

Speaker 2 (09:42):
Certainly we shall search. Uh nothing he has nothing on him?

Speaker 7 (09:49):
What is thought?

Speaker 9 (09:52):
I think we can use it to better advantage than
he can tell.

Speaker 2 (09:55):
A while ago, you press the point of this against
my just while I ask you questions about flash. Well,
one move and you would running through me. You said so,
and so I should. Now I press it against your
chest while I ask another question and a wrong answer
or no answer at all, and I will drive it
through you like a tailor's needle through a patch.

Speaker 9 (10:16):
Of cloth, and if his hand falters, mine will finish
the job with the greatest of pleasure.

Speaker 7 (10:22):
Remember that, wizard.

Speaker 6 (10:24):
What what do you wish to know?

Speaker 2 (10:27):
Tell me? How does Azzura give flies the drug of forgetfulness?

Speaker 7 (10:32):
Will remember what I said, Tau.

Speaker 6 (10:36):
She puts that drug in his.

Speaker 4 (10:40):
Wine. That's why she keeps calling for it and proposing
toasts that offering it to him as refreshment.

Speaker 8 (10:47):
Why, of course is that truth out?

Speaker 10 (10:49):
Yes, every day she gets to him in a special
two handle flagon, that is the one.

Speaker 2 (10:56):
It has some leadium in it. Now, tal that he's
the one you took to us by Tu's order soon
after they brought me here.

Speaker 7 (11:02):
Yes, so that is how Flash has been given the drug.

Speaker 4 (11:06):
Oh, I've been giving it to him myself.

Speaker 10 (11:09):
Yes, you have been drugging your own sweethet and keeping
him from recognizing you.

Speaker 4 (11:15):
You mush, ever, forgive me?

Speaker 8 (11:17):
Why?

Speaker 9 (11:17):
Of course, Princess, you didn't know you were giving him
the drug.

Speaker 4 (11:21):
I'll never take any more in.

Speaker 2 (11:22):
Oh, yes, you will, just once more.

Speaker 3 (11:41):
That night, when the eyes of the dragon, Flash the
signal that Queen Azora wishes more vacco brought in. Dale
takes in the tray with the same two flagons as before.

Speaker 13 (11:51):
Ah, here comes the baker, my prince, and the slave
girl is more prompt than usual.

Speaker 8 (11:55):
So she is my queen. I'm glad of it. My
throat's dry.

Speaker 4 (11:58):
Help yourself Lish. The two handled flagon is yours?

Speaker 8 (12:02):
You know, yes, I'll get it. No, wait, eh.

Speaker 4 (12:07):
What is the meaning of this presumption?

Speaker 6 (12:08):
Play?

Speaker 4 (12:09):
Flash a zero has drugged your vocal life?

Speaker 8 (12:13):
Play what are you saying? Girl?

Speaker 4 (12:15):
That two handled flagon is lithium, the drug of forgetfulness?

Speaker 2 (12:19):
Or pay no attention to.

Speaker 4 (12:20):
The girl, Flash, she must be mad. Don't touch that flagon.
Every time you have emptied the Flash, you have renewed
this wicked queen's power over you. She has caused you
to forget who I am, who you are. Flash. Don't
listen to us. I'll have a drawn in quarters of this. Hey, God,
it won't do you any good to call for your gods, Zora,

(12:40):
they won't answer you. Flash. Tell me you don't believe it.

Speaker 8 (12:42):
The play the same, Well, it seems hard to believe.

Speaker 4 (12:45):
It is a lie a lie here Flash, take this flagon.
If she has not drugged this, then let her drink
from it.

Speaker 8 (12:54):
Yes, here, deer, drink this and proved that the slave
girl is wrong.

Speaker 4 (12:58):
Slash, you don't leave me, and I thought you loved me.
Don't listen to her flash words mean nothing. Get her
to drinks from the flagon.

Speaker 8 (13:06):
Of course you'll drink from it, won't you? Here?

Speaker 4 (13:09):
I no, no, no, I will not touch your drink.
What there you see? She won't drink it. It's drugged.
Just as I told you.

Speaker 2 (13:18):
I tell Asta, I believe you did drug my drink.
We'll soon find out.

Speaker 13 (13:23):
No, father, now, yes, ah, I can't remember anything.

Speaker 2 (13:30):
Where?

Speaker 4 (13:31):
Where am I? What happened?

Speaker 13 (13:34):
Who am I?

Speaker 4 (13:35):
Who am I? Oh? It's true, Dale, Yes, darling, she's
been drugging you.

Speaker 2 (13:43):
You're Flash the man who called me friend. Todd says,
this medicine should bring back your memory if you have
not been under the influence of the lithium too long.
Drink this quickly, Flash, Yes, quickly, Flashed, drink very well.

Speaker 12 (14:02):
I'm Tale, my sweetheart, yesh and Zaka my friend now
and always son, he remembers doctor Zarka Yestale. He didn't
have too much lithium.

Speaker 8 (14:12):
I remember lithium. What are you talking about?

Speaker 7 (14:15):
Why?

Speaker 8 (14:17):
Where are we? How did we get here?

Speaker 2 (14:19):
We are in the palace of Azua, Queen of the
Blue Magic Men. You and Dale were captured while reconnoitering.
Then Azurah kept you drug with lithium so you would
not remember any of the past.

Speaker 8 (14:29):
Good heavens, how long was I like that?

Speaker 2 (14:31):
Four weeks? So long that we were afraid that the
lithium antidote you just drank might have no power to
bring back your memory.

Speaker 8 (14:38):
It sounds as though you were telling me about some
other fellows and I really didn't recognize you, either of you. No,
you call me girl, I didn't.

Speaker 2 (14:46):
Tail, And when I came from Bultan's Kingdom to rescue you,
you threw some kind of paralyzing bomb at me and
took me prisoner.

Speaker 8 (14:54):
You must have thought I was either crazy or a
turned tray to doctor Zaka.

Speaker 2 (14:57):
Well to tell you the truth, I I was worried
about you. Lad Well.

Speaker 8 (15:01):
I'm all right now thanks to you and Dale. Oh
that goes without saying. You know that I'm grateful to
you for sticking by me. Don't you die?

Speaker 4 (15:08):
Of course?

Speaker 2 (15:10):
Well, then, what's to be done. Now, while you were
still under the influence of delithium, you forced the queen
to drink somebody also, Now she is in the same
state you were.

Speaker 8 (15:20):
Oh, I say, that's awful. What can we do about it?

Speaker 2 (15:23):
Awful? You do not understand, my boy. That is good.
With Azua drought, we can take command of the whole kingdom.

Speaker 8 (15:30):
But I have my own kingdom yet to conquer. What
do I want with this one?

Speaker 2 (15:34):
You must take everything in your stride. Flash. You can't
get the cave men and the lizard men. Remember, now,
you must have due these blue magic men very well.

Speaker 8 (15:43):
I'll proclaim myself king, but I'll let this witch queen
run the land for me. What's her name?

Speaker 4 (15:48):
Don't you remember? Flash?

Speaker 2 (15:50):
No?

Speaker 8 (15:50):
Remember why I've never heard it.

Speaker 2 (15:53):
Her name is Azura?

Speaker 8 (15:54):
Azura?

Speaker 2 (15:56):
Where is she in there through that curtain?

Speaker 8 (15:58):
Touch? I'll just go in and tell her how things stand.
I'll be right back.

Speaker 4 (16:02):
Hurry back, Flash, I will Who is it?

Speaker 6 (16:06):
Oh?

Speaker 4 (16:07):
Who are you?

Speaker 6 (16:08):
Fairhead?

Speaker 8 (16:08):
You you don't remember me.

Speaker 13 (16:11):
I never saw you before in my life. And as
for remembering, I cannot even remember who I am.

Speaker 4 (16:18):
Oh, what shall I do?

Speaker 8 (16:20):
Listen to me, I'll tell you who you are you're
a Zora Azura.

Speaker 13 (16:26):
That's a pretty name.

Speaker 4 (16:28):
Who are you?

Speaker 8 (16:29):
I am?

Speaker 13 (16:29):
Flash Gordon, Flash, Flash Gordon. You are very handsome, Flash Gordon.

Speaker 8 (16:36):
I'll try to get personal, Asera.

Speaker 13 (16:38):
You are rude as well as hands.

Speaker 8 (16:40):
Never mind that I'm here on business business. What do
you mean I'm king here?

Speaker 4 (16:44):
Oh?

Speaker 13 (16:45):
Oh, forgive me, your majesty. I did not know.

Speaker 8 (16:48):
That's all right, I am your king, but you are
going to rule this land I your majesty, Yes, under
my orders?

Speaker 13 (16:56):
You honor me, Your majesty. What does my king wish
me to do?

Speaker 8 (17:00):
First? Call out the entire army so that I may.

Speaker 14 (17:02):
Review it at once, Your majesty, Oh God, im in
the entire army to pass in review before King.

Speaker 7 (17:10):
Flash.

Speaker 8 (17:10):
Can I review my troops from that balcony on the
Zora I'll see.

Speaker 13 (17:14):
Your majesty.

Speaker 4 (17:16):
Oh, yes, your magicy, you can review them from here.

Speaker 8 (17:18):
Good. I'll be right there in a moment. Laka, Yes, Flash,
What did you do? I told a zoro who I
am and that she is to obey my orders. She
has just sent word for her entire army to pass
and review before me.

Speaker 2 (17:31):
Who that will give us a fine idea of the
foss under your command.

Speaker 8 (17:35):
Go in there and keep an eye on that woman.

Speaker 2 (17:37):
I don't trust her at once. At once?

Speaker 4 (17:39):
Flush, well, Flash, Now that you've gott an army to
take your interest, I guess you don't need me.

Speaker 8 (17:46):
Eh?

Speaker 2 (17:46):
What's that?

Speaker 4 (17:47):
I said? You don't need me? Now that you've got
an army to take your interest.

Speaker 8 (17:51):
That's not Trudale. Armies, kingdoms, they mean nothing to me
as far as your set concern.

Speaker 4 (17:55):
Are you sure? Flash?

Speaker 8 (17:57):
Of course I am. Why do you think I'm conquering
this kingdom for you, sweetheart?

Speaker 4 (18:01):
For me?

Speaker 8 (18:02):
Certainly? Have you forgotten that I love you?

Speaker 7 (18:04):
Dale?

Speaker 4 (18:05):
I thought you had forgotten?

Speaker 8 (18:06):
Dale? How can you say that you called.

Speaker 4 (18:08):
Me girl and treated me as a slave in front
of a zura.

Speaker 8 (18:11):
I couldn't help that, Dale. I didn't beat you or
hurt you, did I?

Speaker 4 (18:16):
No, I must admit you tried your best to protect
me from the wicked Queen's punishment.

Speaker 8 (18:21):
Oh thank Heaven? I was afraid I might have hurt you.

Speaker 4 (18:23):
Oh you hurt me all right? What every time I
saw you with her? You hurt me terribly?

Speaker 8 (18:29):
Come now, what could make you jealous? Dale?

Speaker 4 (18:32):
The way you acted?

Speaker 8 (18:33):
The way I acted?

Speaker 7 (18:34):
Well?

Speaker 8 (18:35):
How did I act?

Speaker 4 (18:36):
You kissed her hands and told her you loved her
and would die for her, and lots more.

Speaker 8 (18:41):
I did, Yes, I don't remember it, mesh.

Speaker 4 (18:45):
Are you accusing me of lying?

Speaker 8 (18:46):
Of course not, sweetheart. I only said I don't remember it.
I was drug, you heard Zakoff tell me I was.

Speaker 4 (18:52):
Yes, I know I was the one who gave it
to you.

Speaker 8 (18:55):
You gave it to me, and yet you blame me
for what I did while under its influence.

Speaker 4 (19:00):
I didn't know I was giving it to you. You
didn't know, not until we captured Tall and made him
tell us how you were being drugged.

Speaker 11 (19:06):
Tall.

Speaker 2 (19:07):
Who's Tall, Azua's chief magician.

Speaker 8 (19:10):
Oh well, let's all forget what happened in those days
of darkness I have.

Speaker 4 (19:14):
I wish I could please.

Speaker 8 (19:15):
You can, and you must hear it. If you don't,
things can never be the same for us.

Speaker 4 (19:20):
I can't quite forgive the way you asked you about
that woman.

Speaker 8 (19:23):
Don't be like that, Dale, I didn't love her, no
matter what I said.

Speaker 2 (19:26):
She tricked me, black, Dail. The army is ready to
be a refuse.

Speaker 7 (19:30):
Come coming up.

Speaker 8 (19:31):
Let's not talk like this anymore. Dale, it's too near quarreling.
I don't like it. Neither do come there. Let's go
and inspect the army.

Speaker 2 (19:39):
They're all like your flesh. I'm waiting for the order
to pass in the review.

Speaker 7 (19:42):
Give the order or.

Speaker 14 (19:43):
At once, your majesty, loose your ruler sean flesh.

Speaker 13 (19:56):
Is this your queen, your majesty, Yes, that is she
will be soon.

Speaker 2 (20:01):
She is very beautiful. Look flash, the first legion is
really and stopping this way.

Speaker 8 (20:07):
What is the name of this legion?

Speaker 2 (20:09):
I do not know.

Speaker 4 (20:10):
God tell his majesty what legion?

Speaker 6 (20:12):
This is the advanced God, your magistrate.

Speaker 8 (20:15):
Oh, what a splendid company? And those coming next? What
are they.

Speaker 7 (20:24):
Like?

Speaker 6 (20:24):
Magic artillery? Your magistrates?

Speaker 8 (20:29):
But what are these tremendous objects being called by the
next legion?

Speaker 2 (20:32):
I do not know what you call them, but I
do know that they are just too hotman.

Speaker 5 (20:36):
Some question raymagine they eject claim your magistation and this
company don't formation legion your magizine, and the ones with pokes,
the invisibility legion, your Majesty, and the peculiar.

Speaker 6 (20:57):
Shields, the transparent wall Legion.

Speaker 8 (21:00):
Are those machines coming now?

Speaker 9 (21:06):
The double gun Legion, your Majestine.

Speaker 2 (21:12):
And still they caught region after vegion wonderful.

Speaker 8 (21:16):
I have never seen such an army.

Speaker 10 (21:31):
Well, well, god, have you forgotten the regulations requiring you
to salute ted?

Speaker 6 (21:37):
General?

Speaker 8 (21:38):
I'm sorry, General tall hurt. You've got to wait a
little while before going up there.

Speaker 11 (21:42):
Wait, wait, why wait for what? The enemy on the
balcony with Queen Azua reviewing the troops, reviewing the troops?
Are they what right have they to be doing that?

Speaker 2 (21:52):
The Queen herself gave the order.

Speaker 10 (21:53):
General, Oh she did. Why didn't somebody send for me?
He wouldn't have let the enemy have this anst the
size up our army. If I've been here.

Speaker 11 (22:03):
It's all done so quickly, General, none of us had
time to do anything.

Speaker 10 (22:06):
Indeed, well, they can't get away with this. I'll fix them.
They're all on the balcony, you say, yes, General, in
what order are they standing on the balcony?

Speaker 11 (22:17):
I'll see, Well, see whom they call King Flash standing
in the very center behind the royal insignia, and the
queen she's at his left, as the old man with
the beard and the girl.

Speaker 2 (22:33):
Yes, yes, they're standing at the right of him, and Flash.

Speaker 10 (22:36):
Garden is standing directly in this century. And I can
do it by how I can do it? What General,
save the Queen and Blue Magic Land from the hands
of these ex prisoners.

Speaker 11 (22:51):
How would you do with General?

Speaker 10 (22:53):
You stand here, See that no one gets behind me.
I will go up these stairs, drive this sword through
Flash his back, and in the.

Speaker 6 (23:01):
Confusion, run down this way and call the God.

Speaker 2 (23:05):
I hope you succeed, General, General Tall, good luck.

Speaker 6 (23:08):
I hope that tongue.

Speaker 10 (23:10):
Just see to it that I'm not cut off when
I started to run back this way.

Speaker 4 (23:26):
Lash behind you.

Speaker 2 (23:27):
Look out, Cam, Julie and Vader.

Speaker 7 (23:29):
Are you have me in the back?

Speaker 8 (23:32):
Were you?

Speaker 2 (23:38):
My God? Whoever you are, over the side of the balcony, you.

Speaker 8 (23:42):
Go from there?

Speaker 4 (23:48):
That was Paul. You may have killed him.

Speaker 8 (23:52):
He seems to be moving down there.

Speaker 2 (23:54):
God is that he's cutted away in his womb's dress.
No Flash, you are making a mistake killing more Lucky.

Speaker 2 (26:52):
Welcome back.

Speaker 1 (26:52):
I hope you enjoyed today's awesome adventures of Hans Zarkov.
He just absolutely delivered to the episode while Flash took
the boughs. He even helped out when Flash got soft
headed and thought Tal should just have his wounds treated
after attempting to assassinate Flash. I mean, there's being merciful

(27:14):
and then there's being a sap. Honestly, I thought Taal
was just insecure. If he had been right about Azura
deciding to get rid of him and replace him with Zarkov,
my opinion of Azura's judgment would go through the roof,
and then we have that conversation between Flash and Dale.

(27:34):
In some ways it was ridiculous, but it touches on
some real emotional points. On one thing, I think it's
rationally not fair for Dale to be upset with Flash
because he was being mind controlled. On the other hand,
the fact that he doesn't remember and wasn't in control
doesn't mean that it didn't hurt Dale. And just because

(27:55):
Flash doesn't remember, it doesn't mean it didn't happen, and
it didn't happen an emotional effect. So there's a real
emotional issue and point there. But given the genre as
well as the writing this particular type of story at
the time, there's not any way to actually address it

(28:16):
other than in a somewhat silly way we got in
this episode, but still that's not what people tune in
to Flash Gordon for, and for what it's good at.
It delivered a nice Polby adventure with some great twist
and some hints that the spotflashes when that we're not
quite out of the woods yet. Well, now we turn

(28:39):
to listener comments and feedback, and we have this one
from the very first episode, and we have this comment
from Carol an a symbole question, what is patting? Well,
I would answer that patting is something that effectively is
there to stretch the length of a story, to make

(29:04):
it long enough, and there are all sorts of examples
of this. Patty could often be found in a lot
of serialized stories where you would have things happen just
to extend the length of the serial so that the
story could go on and it could fit into the
number of episodes you needed it to fit into, or

(29:27):
you could do it with an individual episode through including
an unnecessary scene or something that was quite repetitive. One
of my favorite classic TV shows is Doctor Who, and
the classic Doctor Who would have so many tricks that
would extend out the runtime to make a story fit

(29:53):
into say a four part structure, like there was one
scene where they cut to two characters who didn't do
anything interesting or really relevant to the plot or say anything,
but it allowed the show to fit within the runtime.
And there were often a lot of catch and release

(30:17):
points where characters would be captured they would make this
whole big thing about escape. They would escape but then
get captured without actually doing or accomplishing or learning anything,
and get back to the cell. So we had the
whole thing with the escape, but the plot didn't actually

(30:37):
move forward. So those sort of things which don't really
add to the story, but you know, extend the clock
for production purposes, tend to be called patting. I mean,
I think in this episode there's a case that we
didn't technically need Flash to review the troops again after

(30:57):
reviewing them episodes previously, although I suppose there's a case
that logically he reviewed the troops the first time, he's
forgotten about it, and because he still does the things
that he does and it's still the person that he is,
he needs to review the troops again. Well, now we

(31:18):
turn turn to YouTube where sasof rights regarding episodes five
and six, I'm guessing that every alien female in the
universe is going to fall in love with Fleash. It
must be nice to be so popular with the babes. Well,
I think if you are the right type of person,

(31:39):
you know, sort of James T. Kirk type of person,
you know, I think that could be a benefit. I
don't think Flash particularly is written in the nineteen thirties
with somebody who appreciated it, although it kind of makes
it challenging that so far the women who have attracted

(32:00):
to him have had mind control, potions and torture as
their love language. But thanks for the comments, say sooff.
And one other point that I did want to make,
and it wasn't the ad in between episodes which would
not have been played. It made the point that being
able to imagine these characters and see them kind of

(32:23):
helps with the experience. And now, of course you can
search online and find images from scans of what they
look like. But I did want to go ahead and
let people know that if you are interested. The Flash
Gordon Collection Classic Collection, Volume one on the Planet Mongo

(32:46):
was actually released as a reprint. The series had been
out of print for some time since a previous set
that was published by Titan. This one was published by
mad Cabe Studios. And I will include affiliate links in

(33:10):
the show notes for anyone who is curious, and if
you do want to get a copy off of Amazon,
you can collect that link and that helps support the show.

in Feel Free. Now it's time to go ahead and
