Rolling down the Bull, the Bloodand a speed of bowl colvid like a
tail on night Tornado, ring ofpromisl can sweat one hand on the glass
pie hether on wheel double riding shotgun singing boy. Let's make a deal.

(00:32):
This is Groundless a Justified podcasts,a podcast where we watch every episode
of Justified and then come on hereand talk about it. I'm Chris,
that man is Randy. I thinkit's safe to say that Clement Man sells.
No Boyd Crowder. No, II knew Void Crowder and you,
sir, you sir or no BoydCrowder. I think I think that is

(00:56):
a safe statement to make. That'sfor sure. We are we are here
to discuss episodes six and seven ofCity Prime Eval episodes called Audios and the
Smoking Gun. And uh yeah, you know we were right before we hit
the record button, we were talkinga little bit about this and you had

(01:17):
said that you think that the secondof the two is better than the first.
I agree with you. I thinkthe Smoking Gun is I think one
of the better episodes of the seasonso far. Oh yeah, some of
the some of the things they doin that episode are good. I think
also that episode six, Audios isone of the worst episodes of the season,
where basically nothing happens. It waskind of yeah, I mean except

(01:42):
for the end, you know,at the end of that episode, sure,
yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean there's there's a big
event right at the end where Sweetiegets killed and Lonnie gets killed. But
and it's also kind of a bummerto see Sweetie get killed too, right,
because one of the more interesting characterson the show this season. Also,
but he's been playing with fire fora few episodes, so it's not
all that not all that surprising.Actually, let's let's start with Let's start

(02:07):
with Sweetie, right, So,I think he's starting to realize early on
in the in the sixth episode thathe's in over his head a bit with
with Clement. When when they whenthey have the guy on the parking garage,
oh, I know, just throwshim off the roof over three grand
uh. Yeah, it's you know, it's one of those how do you

(02:29):
restrain the wind type of things, like how are you how are you supposed
to tell you know, the oceanto not have waves. That's like,
yeah, exactly, he can't controlMansell. It's just he is a force
of nature. Yeah, yeah,I think the problem is and that's one
of the problems with this whole hill, with Mansell in general, is that

(02:51):
he because of the way his characteris supposed to be, it's it's a
problem for him because he's not. He's not really that calculated, right,
So I think that's the problem ofbeing a guy. He should really be
a like just a more like asoldier, I guess, instead of like
a somebody you see as a criminal, like a villain. Like, yeah,

(03:13):
he's not he's not a mastermind exactly. Yeah, he's just he's just
chaotic. He's he's just a loosecannon. It's uh, you know,
we've we've compared him to the Joker, and we'll get to this in a
minute here, but but ultimately theJoker, you know, theme is over
the top with the sky with youknow, the stories about his mom basically

(03:38):
you know, coming down to youknow, do you want to hear about
how I got my scars? It'slike what it feels like when you're hearing
those stories. But but so soyeah, I mean so so Uh Sweetie
has gotten himself in over his head. He sees an opportunity though, when
when Lonnie comes in so Lonnie hasbeen hired by bulldozer Bert to uh to

(04:02):
attempt to get his his Stanley Garlicpainting back. Yeah, and and uh,
you know, Sweetie sees it asan opportunity to say, oh,
you know what, this is mychance to get rid of Clement, because
if I can get this guy totake out Clement, then uh, you
know, all is right with theworld, right you you take this guy

(04:24):
out, you get the money, you know, then I can then I
have the book still, I can. I can still engage in my criminal
enterprise, but I don't have toworry about him. And you know,
the cops are gone too. Butthere's this great moment when he's having that
conversation. You know, most ofthis, you know, I'd say the
episode spends like a third of theepisode there in Sweetie's bar, with Lonnie

(04:46):
in one way or the other, either interacting with Sweetie's boyfriend or or whatever.
I feel like most of that iswasted time. It wasn't very interesting,
But there was this moment where whereit sort of felt like Original justified
for a minute, when Sweetie andLonnie are sitting across from each other and
you know, he's telling Sweetie,Oh I remember you know, we'd hear

(05:10):
you'd hear this, you'd hear thatabout the great Sweetie, you are like
a legend. And Sweetie is talkingabout why he's back in the game,
and he's saying, Hey, maybeI just miss sitting across the table from
somebody like you having a conversation likethis, which feels like a very sort
of Elmore Leonard line delivery. Itfelt a little bit like an original justified
moment that that gave me, Thatgave me the member berries for sure,

(05:33):
sure, sure, And the thingwith the David Cross's face just makes me
laugh, like I don't know what. It just goes back to win an
arrested development and he has that phasethat just it's I mean, we've mentioned
it before, the whole thing witha never nude or well, when Lonnie

(05:56):
gets it in the head at theend of the episode, right because he's
on the phone with Burr when ithappens, and Bert looks up and says,
oh, it's time to go tothe Bahamas. And I have my
note that I have here is it'stime to go to the Bahamas equals I've
made a huge mistake, a hugemistake. Because it's delivered in the same
way with the same face. It'sright. I wonder if they shot an

(06:24):
alternate version with him saying I've madea huge mistake. That good so so
yeah, and that's the end forfor Sweetie, right Ultimately, Uh,
you know, he sets man Sellup in the kind of this very obvious
way. We'll talk in a minuteabout whether man Sell got tipped off or

(06:46):
what exactly is going on there. But he sets man Sell up Man's I'll
wriggles out of the net yet againand comes back for revenge, makes makes
Sweetie listen to him, butcher SevenNation Army and then murders him and burns
his bar down. And uh,and that's so. That's so, that's
the end of Sweetie, who hasbeen the most interesting character for this season.

(07:13):
Just one more note on that beforewe before we get onto somebody else
here. I did wonder whether ornot they actually recorded an entire terrible cover
of Seven Nation Army. I thinka karaoke cover. Yeah, and I
think they actually did. I thinkthey recorded that specifically for the show,
with him singing badly on purpose.I think that was that was when I

(07:35):
rest pretty good there, that kindof makes it funny. It does make
it funny. Yeah, it's verythere's a very something, very authentic to
it. But yeah, well theyshould have brought back Kokomo too. Can
we cover to that? Oh wealmost got Sandy singing Kokomo in this episode
of Sandy. Actually a good timeto talk about Sandy Stanton, So let's

(07:57):
talk about her a little bit. She's singularly obsessed with getting out of town.
She she is not comfortable in Detroitanymore, and who can blame her?
Right? She knows the Albanians areprobably after her. She knows that
she's got, you know, essentiallya tornado on a leash with with Mansell
living in her apartment with her,and so she's just trying to get up

(08:18):
enough money to get the hell outof town. And it's starting to realize
that, hey, maybe Mansell isn'tdoing this for the money, and maybe
he's doing it because he's motivated byother things like being crazy as hell and
uh, and so the money issort of secondary for him. And starting

(08:39):
to realize maybe she's never gonna getout of town. I think that's the
whole thing with just like that typeof female where because she says like a
later on to Raylan about when shewas asked by Raylan about oh, why
are you with him? Yeah? And why do you stay with him?
Why do you stay with Which isthe which is the young girl who's in

(09:03):
it for the thrills And now she'sgetting that point where maybe she's older and
she should be like considering the longterm implications. So, I mean,
she hooked up. She's basically hookedup with a bad boy, right,
this is what it is. She'slike, Oh, it's fun, it's
fun. It was fun to getfor your roommate to get her teeth torn

(09:24):
out of her head. Ye.So and what is it the like the
people in that part of the internetthat are talking about women like that,
they're like, oh, she's aboutto hit the wall and all this other
stuff, you know. You know, So there's there's that whole part of
it with her, her character, and you know, it's you know,
I think that some you know, people do deserve redemption at a certain point.

(09:46):
But I don't know. I mean, Sandy, I have some sympathy,
but I'm not complete sympathy for her. As far as you know,
she did set up a guy toget his leg broken. She knew,
she knows what she's She doesn't getto play the babe in the woods here,
I think, right, she sheknew what she was getting into.
She knows exactly how dangerous Mansell is, and you know what. To her

(10:11):
credit, she she does want sortof want out of that situation, but
she's not committed to getting out ofthat situation. Yeah, and and she's
she's really just right now being accountablefor her own decision. So again,
not really all that worthy of sympathyhere, I don't think, and I

(10:31):
don't think Raylan feels particularly bad forher. Yeah, I don't think so
either. Yeah, I didn't getthat, and so so yeah, Eventually,
you know, Raylan tries to flipher. She rebuffs his efforts because
essentially Mansell is invulnerable, right,She's she's like, hey, look,
yeah, I can tell you whateveryou want, but it's not gonna matter
because you're gonna be able to gethim. And if you can't get him

(10:54):
and I testify against him, thenhe's gonna kill me. So not worth
it to me. And eventually shestarts to put two and two together.
She she tries to pull the shootwith Skender to try and get him back
to be like, hey, let'sget out of town together. And he's
like, no, no, you'rea dead woman. You did to me,
you did to my family. Youbroke his heart. He's he's gone

(11:18):
forever, and and his leg andhis legs. Yes, it's right,
it's it's just such a great deliver. You broke my heart. And by
like and then she goes on thislittle rant about you know, after she
after she helps Raylan meet with orset a meeting with Mansell, she tells

(11:41):
Raylan, oh, she wants tochange, She wants to be a nice
pressure to go down school, goto school, maybe you learn how to
do hair. And then she's like, or maybe be an entrepreneur, you
know, meet a nice guy.And I'm like, wait a minute,
do you think being an entrepreneur meansmeeting a nice guy who can take care
of you? That is that whatbeing an entrepreneur is to you? Yeah,

(12:05):
in this day and age, it'sonly fans. F she do well
on only fans, I think,so, yeah, yeah, she has
You have to work at it though, right, Yeah, that's true,
that's true. You got to bea little bit more motivated than than Sandy
is. Yeah, that's what thepot smoking gets you get out of bed
before ten am. That's yeah,that's that's what I get it. Don't

(12:26):
do drugs, don't smoke the pot. It is big. What's her name
from? Jackie Brown vibes right, like, oh yeah, too much of
that shid will rob you with yourambition. She's like, not if your
ambition is to sit around and gethigh. So yeah, So that's about

(12:48):
it with Sandy. She tries toShe tries to get out of town in
the air going through the airport andfails. She also tries to sell the
Stanley gar like painting, and itturns out it's not worth much and and
maybe has the best line of thetwo episodes that we watched here when she's
like, who gives a shit aboutStanley Garland? That's right, I looked

(13:11):
it up. I don't think that'sa real painter either. I think that
was made up for the show.So okay, right, it's probably like
somebody's dentist or something. I get, you know what. I was just
trying to picture that that uh youknow, in my mind that that the
pick the painting itself, and Idon't know, it looks like it'd be

(13:35):
okay, you know, like Idon't you know, Yeah, it's fine.
It speaks to Clement for some reason. Yeah, that's right. Artists
very subjective, so it's not youknow, let's not trying to figure that
out. Yeah. So so yeah, that's uh, that's about it for
Sandy again, I, you know, criminally underused, I think, or

(14:00):
close to criminally underused. She getsa little bit of action in the second
episode, but but I think weneed more Sandy Stanton. I think it's
uh entertaining having her on screen. So we talked about Skender. What we
didn't talked about was Toma. Tomashows back up in the seventh episode here

(14:22):
to uh in an effort to findMansell. And we'll talk about that when
we when we wrap up Raylan's archere, so let's see here, let's
talk a little bit about Carolyn then. So, so Carolyn is shows up
in at Raylan's hotel room in themiddle of the night, you know,

(14:43):
for I guess conceivably for a bootycall slash deep conversation about trust. I
don't know that was it was weird, right, She's just trying to decide
if she can trust him to givehim more information on you know, hopefully
helping to bust man Sell but alsoadvance her amditions. And so essentially what

(15:03):
she does is she gives up herfriend, who's the county prosecutor whose name
is in the book, in aneffort who was who was who had the
inside track for the judge, thevacant judge sheet judge seat, and so
she, uh, she gives themup to gives her friend up to Raylan,

(15:24):
and they're going to try and flipher to to set up man Sell.
And I do like, just howdevoid of moral like direction Carolynez,
because she uses the the lunch countersit in analogy for what she's about to
do, Like, you know, this is just like in the civil rights

(15:48):
era when people getting arrested for sittingat white only lunch counters. You know,
this is me getting on the donethe bench because I deserve to be
a judge. I like the uh, I like the the totally devoid of
chemistry line that Raylan delivers to herdelivers to her like when they're standing in

(16:11):
front of the hotel or yeah,or it was like something like oh,
uh, I want you Like Iforgot exactly what it was, but I'm
just like looking at like I'm thinking, how mad they needed, like they
needed a more chemistry. I mean, we've talked about that previous episodes.
But yeah, the way he deliversthe line, it's like, I Roll

(16:32):
was rolling my eyes. But therewere little glimpses of moments here right that
you you started to feel like,Okay, there's a little bit of chemistry
between these these actors. Now,there were there were little flashes of it,
but it wasn't it wasn't sustained atall, And it really does feel
I mean, maybe that's the intent. Maybe maybe I'm missing it. Maybe

(16:55):
the intent of the writers is tomake it feel very transactional or very much
like a busy in this relationship, because that's really what it feels like.
Yeah, that's yeah, it feelslike people who are you know, Okay,
well I have a biological imperative andyou have a biological imperative. So
let's smush those biological imperatives together andsee what happens. Yeah, but but

(17:17):
I think Carolyn does show something alittle something as far as you know,
like she she's like trying to calculateexactly how she gets out. Yeah,
So I think that's that's pretty good, especially now that we know a little
bit about her background and you knowwhat happened, how she was raised by
Sweetie and all this other stuff. So right, yeah, her her dad.

(17:37):
We find out that her dad killedhimself after losing his job at one
of the auto plants. It soundslike it's like a Springsteen song. Yeah,
yeah, let's Natty shut himself intohude, which would be on board,
you know what. It would makesense, right because this was Detroit
or if that's where they grew up, right in Detroit, like, and

(18:03):
he probably would have been around aswatching the decline of Detroit and as an
auto you know, for these automakerstoo. Yeah. So yeah, they
said it was eighty eight, right, so when when she was, you
know, rolling around with these bluesmusicians one in the morning or whatever.
It's quite the quite the wholesome upbringing. Yeah, but I do like,

(18:26):
I do like the musicians. They'reguys. Like the line was man anybod
who works a straight job as achump. It's like a word never remind
you of that scene and back tothe future where the band is in the
back and they like like the smokingpot in the back of the Yeah,

(18:56):
you guys aren't ready for this yet. I don't know, oh man.
So all right, yeah, solet's see what else we got here with
Carolyn. So Carolyn does two thingsin this episode, she or these two
episodes to move the case forward, right. So the first is she helps

(19:18):
with the setup of Mansel that failsin the park because he's smarter than the
average bear. Apparently, I thinkthere's something else going on here we'll talk
about and then and then the secondthing she does is help Raylan get the
gun from Sweetie's boyfriend after or theyfind Sweetie's body in the bar, and

(19:38):
yeah, so Raylan. So thenit gets really weird, right, and
so I think we're going to findout in the eighth episode exactly what happened
here, But basically the way thatthe story plays out, she gives the
gun to Raylan, Raylan gives thegun to Maureen, and then the next

(19:59):
thing we see is Maureen is arrestingthe homeless guy who was assaulting the corpse
of the lady that Mansell killed andclaiming that they found the gun in his
possession and use the ballistics to matchit to the shooting of the judge.

(20:22):
And so obviously we know that Maureenis. We know from this that Maureen
is dirty, right, we justdon't know how dirty Maureen is. And
so, you know, is ita situation where she's just trying to close
the case and get a win, like Norbert kind of suggests it is,
or is her name in the bookand she's now trying to, you know,

(20:45):
blow up the case so that shecan get the book back. Somehow
it could be And that's what Ithink is going on here. So my
theory is that Maureen is in thebook and had as when Raylan approached her
with his plan for the sting, her next step was to reach out to

(21:06):
Mansell to tell him, Hey,I know you have the book. My
name's in the book. Here's whatI'm gonna do. I'm gonna tell you
how we're gonna plan, how we'regonna catch you and exchange. I want
my name out of that book.I think I think that might be what
happened here, Yeah, because shesays she says at the failed sting,

(21:27):
she says someone tipped him off.Yeah, And so I feel like,
if I had to guess, shereached out to him and tipped him off,
because we know it wasn't this week. Do you think that her motivation
you laid out two possible motives forthat. I think it's the first one.
Oh you do you think it's justgonna bust? Yeah? I mean,

(21:51):
well not probably not completely, butI mean it does make sense that
like she can't if she's in thebook, she can't. She can't to
you know, like she'll be exposed. Right, but if they if they
put somebody else up, namely thisHope Darryl whatever his name was, it
does it just doesn't mean it's openand shut this. There's not gonna be

(22:11):
any further looking into any other anyother leads, right, Yeah, it
shuts it down. Yeah, Yeah, I don't know. I think it.
I think that that is easily explainedby her arresting that guy, but
it's not so it doesn't so easilyexplain how Clement wrinkled off the hook at

(22:32):
the sting. I think that inorder for there to be an order for
us to get A and B,it has to be that Maureen's dirty and
she's in the book and she's incodes, because otherwise who tipped off Man's
self? Because we know it wasn'tSweetie, we know it wasn't Carolyn.
The only other people who knew wereWendell, Raylan More and Maureen. Yeah,

(22:57):
it would have been it wouldn't havebeen him, Yeah, because he
ended up giving the gun to Raylan. Yeah, so so I figure it's
got to be Maureen, and Ifigure we're going to get some sort of
backstory there in the finale, hopefully, hopefully we have time for it.

(23:17):
I feel like, I mean,let's let's talk a little bit about the
meta. These two episodes, veryvery slow episode and episode six, not
much happens until the end episode seven, the pace starts to pick up a
little bit. But I do feellike there's an awful lot to resolve here
before we can end this series. And we've got a forty minute finale next
week. Yeah, yeah, it'llbe interesting to see, Yeah, because

(23:45):
usually the one thing else about thisabout this series has been like some of
these episodes really drag, you know, like it's it's the other you know,
the original series of the episodes wouldbe a breathe, like you go
through them and and this is notlike that. No, it's not,
it's not. The quality is justnot there. Quiet Raylan, I think

(24:07):
doesn't doesn't help he's he's not askind of active or talkative as he was
in the original series. He's morereactive to the people around him. So
I mean it's look, it's anevolution of his character. He's ten fifteen
years older. You know, thingschange. But at the same time,
you know, part of the charmof the show is the dialogue, and

(24:29):
yeah, I feel like we're reallywanting for some of that good dialogue here.
Yeah. I mean there are somemoments there where there is good dialogue,
but it's it's almost like there's notit's not enough, you know.
Yeah, yeah, they're in betweenlittle flashes in between long periods of not
having it. So yeah, it'sunfortunate. And the other thing, you
know, I had a note here. The other thing I noticed is that

(24:51):
they try to do like if they'regonna if you notice the music, like
it'll be sometimes it'll be like,oh, like old timey justified. Yeah,
and then they but like originally theytry to establish it with like motown
or you know, like that andget that little Tinkley steel guitar or whatever.
Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, So I don't know, I

(25:14):
think that that. I think that'sinteresting also because it's like almost like they're
not kind of sure on the directionthey want to go. You know,
yeah, no, I agree.I agree. It's a little weird.
It's it's it's not a bad TVshow. It's also not justified. It
doesn't feel like justified. It alsois not a great TV show either,

(25:40):
Right, it's a perfectly fine bminus of a TV show. I think.
Yeah, it's solid. Yeah,it's solid. Yeah, And I
think that if we hadn't sort ofgone down some of these weird rabbit holes
early in the season, we wouldbe in a better place now. But
yeah, well, you know, one of the things that I have on

(26:00):
here is that you know, Willa, she's rip. We haven't We haven't
seen or heard from her in fourepisodes. It's uh yeah, like you
know, okay, she's gone.I don't know why she was even in
the show. What was the point. It didn't advance the plot, It
didn't progress anything. Besides I supposecreating at a friction between Raylan and Mansell.

(26:22):
But you can create a number ofways. So yeah, yeah,
all right, and then Carolyn, let's see what else. Oh Mansell shows
up at her place to tell hera joker story. So I have a
clip of the look at these scarsmy father was I drink her kind of

(26:45):
feed. It just reminded me somuch because he's got this story about how
his mom died, and in thefirst one he tells she was in a
tornado, and in the second onehe tells he killed her because she was
banging the oil men from the nearbyor whatever. And he tries to tell
a third story to the Albanians andthey tell him silence is golden, so

(27:07):
shut the fuck up. Yeah, yeah, but but yeah, very much.
You know did did you know howI got Do you know how I
got these scars? From the joker? Good? But so he tells her
the story about how he killed hismom and she kind of calls his bullshit
on it, and he says, well, you don't know what could happen
that way, or maybe it didn't. But so what we see at the

(27:33):
end of that episode, though,is that so she's turned the gun over
the rail and she then sees thenews story about how they arrested the homeless
guy, and so I assume, you know, this is one of those
things where it's like, oh,look at that. If anybody ever talked
to anyone else, we wouldn't havethese misunderstandings. But I assumed that what
happened here was she thought Raylan betrayedher and U and instead of calling him

(27:57):
and asking him about it, shecalls the Albanians, because that's where we
see her at the end. Wesee her with Toma telling him where to
find Raylan, who's going to bemeeting with Mansell at the airport Radison.
The nicest airport Ratison bar I've everseen. That's right, it is the
It is the only five star Radisonin the continental United States in Detroit.

(28:26):
At the airport, it's like continentallevel, you know, like that level
of atmosphere at a bar is theSomaliaan. Yeah, very nice hotel,
very nice bar. And yeah.So that's so she tells the Albanians where

(28:51):
to find Raylan and Mansell. AndI have to assume that that's because she
thinks Raylan screwed her over with theresting the homeless guy. Right, Otherwise
she would do that, I wouldn'tthink, yeah, yeah, and they
didn't have it like he didn't havea chance to explain or anything like that.
I mean they did talk though, right you. I would have thought
that he would have or she wouldhave like told or asked him. You

(29:12):
would think that would have been herfirst call would have been like, hey,
what the hell you told me youcould trust me? Or I mean,
technically he didn't say that she couldtrust him. He said if you
have to ask that question, youprobably can't. But you know whatever,
people are slow learners. So yeah, so I have to assume that she
thinks she he screwed her over soand that's why that she then turned around

(29:34):
and betrayed him. And so yeah, let's talk about let's talk about Raylan
and man Sell a little bit here. So so Raylan, uh, you
know, there's one there. They'reat the bust there are the the sting
the sting attempt where they're going totry and catch man Sell. And he's
telling Wendell to appreciate how nice ofa day it is, because Wendell's got

(29:56):
the nerves, got the nerves alittle bit. I had a the head
of the bus and he told me, oh, look it's a beautiful day.
There's ice cream And Wendell's like, what good is ice cream gonna do?
And Rayl and says, oh,you know, a little treat for
after, And so the note thatI have here is do you think that
the cops get ice cream after asuccessful bus like a Little League team?
You know, they all go andthey line up at the ice cream shop

(30:17):
and I'll get ice cream and standingaround talking about the game. Oh did
you see that? That was awesomewhen we did that we hit that guy.
It was really the best I thinkthat the well, I mean that
it wasn't railing like at the endof the last episode of the last season
of the last series. Excuse me, like they were sitting there eating he

(30:40):
was getting ice cream with his daughter. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah,
no, no, Raylan. Imean the ice cream is a big part
of Raylan's character, right, rememberhe lost rolland Pike when he went to
thirty one Flavors. That's right toget ice cream. So that's good.

(31:00):
Yeah, that's right. I justthought I just thought the whole idea of
a bunch of cops lining up atan ice cream cart after they after they
arrest somebody and they have him inthe car and they're all standing around eating
the ice cream and the kid andthe guy's in the car and he can't
he doesn't get ice cream. Itjust made me laugh. It's like a
far side cart. That's that's right, Well technically it should be donuts,

(31:22):
right right, yeah, but butRaylan so, so after the bus goes
bad, Raylan thinks there's something fishyabout that particular kerfuffle and he wants to
talk to Wendell about it. Sohe proposes the concept to Wendell. He's
like, hey, look, hesays, how does this guy keep getting

(31:45):
lucky every single time? No one'sthat lucky. I've never seen this happen
before. Somebody's not acting the waythat they should be acting because of what's
at stake here. And Wendell basicallysays, man, I don't even have
an opinion on that, and evenif even if he didn't know, he
wouldn't care, so you know, shrug. That's basically the answer he gives

(32:08):
back is I don't know, andI don't care. I'm not going to
look into it any further. So, you know, a cab in case
you weren't sure, that's that's whatthat means. And and uh yeah,
So he he's just checked out,and so Raylan's left to kind of ponder
and puzzle this out on his own. And he's got his plan B.

(32:30):
And so what I was particularly interestedin. I'm sitting there watching it,
I'm thinking to myself, Oh,he's going to do the trick he did
before. So if if you rememberat the end of season three with Quarrels,
Uh, there's an episode about halfwaythrough the season where Quarrels kills Gary
on his front lawn and tries toframe Raylan for the murder, and so

(32:53):
the murder weapon ends up in Ithink in Winona's freezer is where she finds
it, and she gives it backto Raylan, who puts it behind his
radiator, and eventually it turns upon Quarrels after he loses his arm at
at Limehouse's pig Shack. And sobasically what happened was Raylan knew he was

(33:20):
going to encounter Quarrels, took thegun, had it on him when Quarrels
disarmed him, and so Quarrels endedup with the gun. There's even a
moment where he goes, he goes, I'm gonna want that back when Quarrels
takes this primary gun, and thenwhen he takes this secondary gun, he
says that one you can keep, and that's because it's his. So he
can keep it, And so I'mthinking to myself, Oh, Raylan's on

(33:44):
track to do the exact same thingagain. He's gonna you know, because
we've we've seen this kind of repetitionof tricks that have worked in the past,
trying to do trying to do itagain in this season of Justified,
and so you think that's what he'sgonna do, That's how he's going to
set him up. But that's nothow he does it at all. He

(34:05):
actually takes it to the restaurant withhim, puts it in front of man
Sell and basically dares him to pullit out. He's doing a Tommy Bucks,
is what he's doing. Yeah, yeah, So do you think Rayland,
do you think that's what he wasgoing to do? Like if do
you think that he was baiting manSell to pull the gun from the from
the things we could shoot him that'sit. Well, we know that he's

(34:29):
not above that right as far aslike putting people in that position. But
I don't know that's a good question. I mean, somebody who's like,
you know, more experienced, awiser and everything else. Yeah, he
keeps talking about trying to do itthe right way, right, he keeps
paying lip service to that, andhe gets subverted at every turn. So
to be fair, maybe there's somefrustration shining through. He's like, just

(34:53):
screw it. Well, it's justso much easier as long as you get
shot in the balls. Yeah,And that's That's the great thing about Mansell
here is I think I think beforethey sit down at the table, I
think he thinks Raylan's full of shit, Like he thinks he's just a blowhard,

(35:15):
a typical cop, like you know, typical cop nonsense coming out of
his mouth. And then when he'ssitting at the table with Raylan, and
Raylan's basically telling him, yeah,go ahead, get the gun. Whenever
you're ready. I'm ready to go. If you want to go outside,
we can go outside. You canlook it up and even see it.
You can look and see it's loadedeven, right. He's like being very
sort of accommodating with him, yes, very encouraging, like let's get down,

(35:37):
let's get down to it. AndI think Mansell is starting to get
a little nervous, right, becausehe's like, wait a minute, this
is a level of confidence that onlythe truly insane or the truly exceptional possess
is like, I have this levelof confidence because I'm crazy as shit,
but he's not crazy as shit,so maybe he really is exceptional and that

(35:59):
has to be this this showdown scene, it has to be one of the
best in the series, this thisuh this season. Oh for sure.
As far as yeah, absolutely Iwill give credit where credit as due to
Boyd Holbrook here. He played itwell. You could tell he started out
feeling very sort of confident of hisposition and this sort of thing, you

(36:21):
know, talking about Sandy Smoker, too much pod and all that, and
then he starts to get nervous asthe as the scene draws on. Yes,
yeah, so yeah, so definitelycredit to him. And it's kind
of a it is a as Ithink you mentioned, it is kind of
a call back to the very firstscene of the first you know, of
the of the original season one.So it's cool. It's a really cool

(36:47):
place you're in the content, notthe Continental, but in the Radisson.
It's just cool. So it wasit wasn't cool. Enjoyed it. I
enjoyed it a lot. That wasvery well done. You know, since
we're talking about since we're talking aboutClement here, we're going to talk about
how he's no Boyd crowderoid Crowder, avoid Crowder Crowder. And and we've already

(37:14):
established that Clement Manzell is no BoydCrowder, but let's talk about how in
this episode, so how he's noBoyd Crowder. So there's there's a moment
early on when Bert presents a pictureof Clement to to Lonnie and Lonnie has
no idea who Clement Manzell is,and he's like, who is this?

(37:35):
And you know, Bert's like,Oh, I was hoping you'd be able
to figure that out for me.And it struck me because at this point
in a season of Justified, you'renot introducing the concept of Boyd Crowder to
anyone, right, Like, everyonewho's involved in the story at this point
in a season knows who Boyd Crowderis. They know him by reputation,

(37:58):
they know him on site, theyknow who he is, what he does.
He's famous, he's infamous. Right. Clement Mansell is not famous or
infamous for that matter. He's justan unknown white guy who is causing chaos
on his immediate orbit in Detroit. And so he doesn't he doesn't operate on
the same scale as Boyd Crowder doesin Harlan County. Yeah, well he's

(38:22):
not he's not as established obviously,I mean, and he has been a
while. We don't know exactly howlong he's been away, right, true,
it's been a few years, Ithink they said. Yeah. So
yeah, and it's and it's justalso the scale of this this season as
well. I mean, you know, you don't have the five season or

(38:45):
six season plus a plus a movieto to to get into what what Boyd
did. I mean, he heis from an established family in that area,
established crime family and all this. You know, so the scale you're
you're exactly right, the scale isexactly uh not equal. Yeah, as

(39:07):
far as Boyd compared to men selland no one knows them even by reputation.
It's it's you know, it's it'sit's an interesting sort of departure,
right from from Justified, where everybodyknew who the bad guys were, or
if they didn't, they had someindication, right. You know, guy
looks kind of like a Siberian husky. Yeah, that's right. So you

(39:31):
know that's the other thing. Youknow there there could have been a little
tie tie in there maybe with becausethat's where all the thugs came from you
know, like Siberian Husky, uhlike that from Detroit, who would go
down to Harlan. But we haven'treally seen anything. I mean, the
only other criminal element has been theAlbanians. Yeah, you know, I

(39:55):
half expected at some point, Ithink I mentioned this, I'm probably one
of our previous shows. I halfexpected that Raylan would would tangle with the
Detroit Mob again in order to getinformation or something like, we would get
a visit from somebody who we knew, although pretty much everybody we knew in
the Detroit Mob is dead. Soyeah, so maybe not. But are

(40:17):
there any other tone in's left?I don't think so. No, I
don't think so. Or maybe oneof the somebody ascended and assumed power or
I don't know that would have been. That would have been a cool little
tie if they did that. Butyou know, maybe that was just done
on purpose as far as like tryingto keep it separate. Maybe yeah,

(40:37):
I mean, there definitely was aconcerted effort to not you know, have
this, have this self contained storybleed out into the arrest of the larger
Justified universe. So yeah, yeah, Okay, let's see what else do
I have here? Oh, dalpoor Dell Dal's the guy who owns the
apartment where Sandy's been living. Andnow that stumbles across Man selling his kimono

(40:59):
and gets a bullet for what happenswhen you want to fuck Sandy Stanton people?
So what happens? This is theprice you pay? Yeah? I
thought that guy was you know,I thought of the interested in, the
in, the not interested in ladies. Yeah that mustache you know that?
Oh yeah yeah, it was verysimilar to the sweetiest boyfriend's mustache. Yeah

(41:25):
yeah. And then who has acommote? Well I guess, I guess
mansell doesn't. To be fair,it wasn't a in a frame. Yeah,
that's true. What's funny is thathe immediately recognized it, like would
you You know, when you're usedto seeing something in a certain tableau,

(41:47):
you sometimes don't recognize it when it'snot in that tableau. Yeah, because
in different content somebody, yeah, wait, it's not my comoto like that
would have been. I think funnieris if like later on he was like,
wait is that mikamono? So Ialso noted that Clement was taking his
extortion lessons from car dealerships, whichseems fair. Oh yeah, he's like,

(42:13):
you know, you go to buya car, and you know,
you agree on a price, andthen you get down in the room and
they're like, oh, it's gonnabe an extra couple hundred bucks a month
for the extended warranty. It's Andthat's how he kind of accounted for raising
the price on Burt during the negotiation. I'm like, well that sounds about
right. Actually, that's yeah, pretty good, pretty good lesson to take
from your extortion relationships. All right, all right, let's get to our

(42:37):
final segment here. Are you goingto shoot him too? Raylan? I
was telling my friends this morning yesterday, coming in and you don't get out
of town in twenty four hours,I'm gonna shoot you on site. Berno,
are you going to shoot him?I'll get for you before you even
clear your whips. Take my chanceswith the other teach you get the chance,
helpful my side, less I'm goingto shoot to kill. Are you

(43:00):
going to shoot him too? Raylan? And just like the whole season,
Raylan hasn't shot anybody. He didn't, she didn't shoot anybody this season this
uh, these two episodes not soso he's avoided the paperwork and that that
self recrimination. So yeah, infact of man sells the US already is

(43:27):
the only serial killer. Yeah,he's got what five bodies? Now?
Five bodies? Yeah, God sendhis sorry six the guy he threw off
the roof. Oh yeah, Iforgot about that. Yeah, yeah,
that's uh, it's it's a problem. Should be shooting people. Clement deserves

(43:52):
to be shot at this he does, he does, And maybe that's because
I, like, I don't haveany sympathy. I think I mentioned that
earlier, Like he should have gottenGod already right, just the way he
acts and everything else, it shouldhave been a but I don't know.

(44:13):
He fallen to the Norbert school ofyou know, this guy's gotten away with
so much shit. I don't careif he goes away for something he's not
guilty of. Yeah, yeah itshould be. I guess we'll find out
next next episode. Yeah, unlesshe ends up being like the joke or
did he doesn't get it. Ihave a feeling he doesn't make it out
of the episode alive. That's myprediction for the finale is uh, he

(44:37):
ends up Dad, Okay, I'lltake the as you say, what do
we put play a place of wager? I have no idea that most likely
he's gonna be He's gonna get gotit. I mean the story that the
story that ray Crews told is theway that the book ends, So it's
not going to end that way.Okay, expact, at least it's not

(44:57):
going to end that way because they'vekind of spoiled it. So yeah,
so who knows? Yeah, yeah, do you think it'll be at Raylan's
hand the Albanians and then Raylan getsaway? I mean, this is actually
something that we should probably look intoa little bit. It's interesting because you
know, look, you know,it's interesting because I can see a scenario

(45:21):
where we get a second part twoessentially of the Nicki Augustine situation, where
he sort of lets the Albanians takehim. I just don't know, like
what I was trying to figure out, and you know, we didn't talk
about this too much, but becauseit was only like two minutes of the
episode, but the Albanians do showup and take both both Mansell and Raylan

(45:45):
with them, disarm them and takethem to wherever they're taking them, and
they throw the gun into the river, which is not a great day for
Raylan. But I wonder why Raylanwent along without a fight. That he
just kind of easily hit, veryeasily handed over his gun and went along
with the Albanians. Why do wethink that happened? Yeah, that's a

(46:09):
good question. Why why not?He really didn't even protest at all you
think about it, I mean hejust handed over he no, no,
you know you're making a big mistake. Or yeah, I mean he told
him, Hey, you know, don't you might not want to get your
fingerprints on that one. Yeah, but I mean that was it. Yeah,
that's a good question. You know, I'm gonna come with you,

(46:29):
but you're not going to take mygun, or I'm not gonna go with
you, but I'm not going tostop you from taking him or anything like
that. You know, like youwould expect Raylan to have some sort of
line delivery there, and he justdidn't just hands his gun over just Yeah.
So maybe I don't know, maybehe's thinking something else. I don't

(46:49):
know. Maybe it's a longer, longer game plan here, but we'll see.
So it's so I do see itpotentially ending up as a sort of
Nicki Augustine situation where Raylan maybe letsthe criminals kill Mansell or kind of an
inverse Nikki Augustine situation where he stopsthem from doing it because he's you know,
he's more mature now, or he'syou know, regrets the decisions he's

(47:12):
made in the past or whatever.Yeah, well, at least there's something
to to look forward to for thenext the final episode coming up. Final
