This is Grow Omaha, the onlyradio show that talks about economic development,
construction, business expansion, and allof those things that make Omaha a great
place to live or visit. GrowOmaha on News Radio eleven ten. Ka
Baby, Well, good morning, and welcome to the show. Jeff Fields
here at your service. This isthe only show in the metro area that

(00:21):
talks about construction, expansion, economicdevelopment, really anything related to Omaha becoming
more vibrant, more prosperous. Thankyou to our sponsors for making this possible.
The first one is Cheer Athletics, the nation's number one all star Cheer
Jim with its Omaha location near Highwaysfifty and three, seventy and Papillion and

(00:45):
Dingman's Collision Center for metro area locations, taking care of your car both inside
and out. Now, without anyfurther ado, it's time to bring on
my co host, a man whois a legendary real estate deal maker,
Trenton Maggot. Good morning, ladiesand gentlemen. Good morning Joe Well,
Good morning Trenton, and I knowspeaking on behalf of you, we Grow

(01:07):
Omaha want to give our sympathies toanyone who suffered property damage in yesterday's tornadoes.
You and I are both natives ofthis town. We are We're not
old, but we're not spring chickenseither, so we've like we were both
alive for the nineteen seventy five tornado. We're six, And I will say

(01:30):
this, yesterday was epic. Imean, to have that many tornadoes in
the Omaha metro area and that lastedfor so long and traveled so long,
I don't think Omaha has seen anythinglike that in modern history that I'm aware
of. It was really surprising becausewhen we hear about tornado watches or traadeo

(01:51):
warnings, We're like, Yeah, where is it gonna go? And this
is something that just was progressive andjust reappeared, it seemed like. And
have it so close to home, and I'm sure we will know a lot
of people that lost either their entirehouse or a good portion of it,
or their buildings and or at leastroof damage. Yeah, the good news

(02:14):
is there's little or no injuries.I think I've heard about a couple just
bumps, some bruises or something, some medical conditions that may have been spurred
by one of the tornadoes or somethinglike that. But I think overall,
when it comes to the health andsafety of the citizens, I think we
got really lucky. I would agreewith that too. In fact, you

(02:35):
know, KATV did a real outstandingjob with the coverage yesterday of going from
these monitoring cameras they have all overthe metropolitan area, and I was watching
that and just amazing shots. Infact, while I was watching, they
caught the destruction of some of theGeneral Aviation buildings at Eptley Live right there

(02:58):
as it was happening, but whenit was going over Western Oh, basically
that stretch from two hundred and fortiethand centered diagonally up towards Bennington where a
lot of that damage was going andyou could just see from the distance from
their their camera angles how much debriswas in the air. I said to
myself, it will be a miracleif we don't have several people die and

(03:21):
this thing, and apparently fingers crossed. The miracle happened well. And it
was also interesting to see our friendBrian Mastery and a ww T Cheddle six.
He was out there with his rainjacket on and it was in the
thicket things and one of their cameras. You know, the new stations have
these cameras plan everywhere. One ofthem you could see the treado coming and

(03:42):
destroy the camera and then the camerajust went out. Oh really, yeah,
that's pretty cool. Wow, that'spretty impressive. But yeah, again,
for any of you who had buildingsdamaged or destroyed, please know you
are in our thoughts and prayers, and now is the time for Omahans to
be Omahans and Nebraskas and islands tobe Nebraskas and islands and come together and
help and volunteer and clean this thingup, which we definitely will do.

(04:06):
And a lot of you have probablyheard this. With the Salvation Army is
always already in high gear and startingat nine o'clock today, just a little
bit ago at the Bright Ideas atone hundred and fifty six in Blondo,
you can drop off bottled water, cleaning supplies and gata rade. Because it
sounds like if you want to helpwith your time, which is very impressive,

(04:28):
if you want to do that,it sounds like you need to find
an organized group that has permission togo into these areas. They don't want
a bunch of rubberneckers and lookie loose, and they won't let you in the
neighborhoods anyway, So you know, just be mindful of people's strategies. Well,
looking at this occurrence from a growOmaha perspective, as we just mentioned,

(04:51):
and as you've probably heard, someof the damage was to the general
aviation part of Epley where the privateplanes are held. We have an important
weekend coming a week from today, that's Berkshire Hathaway Weekend. The actual meeting
will be coming up, and onehopes that the general aviation infrastructure will be

(05:14):
able to accommodate the influx of planes, given that we did lose some buildings
over there. I do know quitea few people who work in general Aviation
on the east side Epley, andthey're outstanding people and outstanding operations. So
if anyone could make that happen,it'll be them and those companies. And
when it comes to damaged homes ortotally destroyed homes, we've talked for a

(05:40):
long time on the show last coupleof years about the shortage of housing stock,
and this is going to do nothingto help the growth of Omaha.
When these new homes are getting built. Some people, one guy you said
lived in his house for a month, is dream home and it's gone,
and contractors are busy right now.So I also, you know, we're

(06:01):
gonna have a lot of people, you know, tornado chasers basically, some
of them are good, some ofthem aren't. But there's a lot of
people that are gonna come into townthe next couple of weeks and be contractors.
You just got to check them outand and get serious references and make
sure that they're they're licensed in Nebraskaand they know what they're doing, because
there's a lot of people out therethat that need help by quality contractors.

(06:27):
Yeah. I don't want to saynever hire and out of town contractor or
roofer, but I know if myhouse had been damaged, there's pretty much
no way on earth I would hirea roofing company that is not based in
Nebraska. Ioway, yeah, andand out you know, Eric Obrempt,
do you know them from our showand from from using them? Dn M
Roofing, Uh, dn M Dand mroofing dot com Right, Yeah,

(06:53):
and uh, great people and Jeffand I have had great luck with with
dn M Roofing and a shout outto their team. I'm sure they're incredibly
busy, but if you have ahouse to put a roofback on, and
some people need a house in orderto get that roof back on. Unfortunately,
you could do yourself a great serviceby giving them a shout. A

(07:13):
couple things. Of the last coupleof things before we move on, yesterday
was the most or the largest ormost tornado warnings or largest number of tornado
warnings issued by the Omaha National WeatherService Office, which is in Valley in
history in one single day. Itwas about forty seven or something like that

(07:36):
tornado warnings issued. Previous high wasthirty three last May. They're about seven
tornado six or seven tornadoes specifically differentones that hit the Omaha metropolitan area and
all indications are as far as tornadodamage is concerned in the metro area,
this would be the worst since theepic tornado of May sixth, nineteen seventy

(08:01):
five. Well, let's go onto our News of the week, which
is brought to you by Eagle MortgageEagle Mortgage Company dot com. They have
known mortgages for north of thirty years. FHAVA conventional, some of the specialty
loans they do all of that, and whatever loan you get through Eagle Mortgage,

(08:22):
they do a good job. Theyare a broker, so they can
shop the banks and find the bestlender for you. We highly recommend them.
We personally know the owners and feelvery very comfortable directing all gro Omaha
listeners who are thinking about buying ahouse to Eagle Mortgage Egle Mortgage Company dot
com. A couple big news itemsthis week Trenton, the first one University

(08:45):
of Nebraska Border Regents approved a seventytwo million dollar contract with McCarthy Building Companies
to construct the core building at theMediciner. This is the administrative and research
building that will be on the southwestcorner of Farnham Street and Saddle Creek Road.
Completionists planned for the summer of twentytwenty six. They have already from

(09:07):
what I can tell, completed piledrivings and so now it's just time to
start building the building and then theother thing. The regents have also approved
a new student housing building near thirtyninth and Dewey And big news, they
approved some stuff to pave the wayfor Project Next, specifically Phase one Nice

(09:31):
and Phase one will be the twopoint one nine billion with a B billion
dollar academic teaching hospital that will goup on the site of the old Monroe
Meyer Institute. And part of thethings that they approved were an interlocal agreement
between Mediciner and the city to getthis ball rolling. So we should start

(09:52):
to see massive hospital construction at themed Center in the not two distant future.
Does it sounds like the government gavethe funding, the federal government,
that would be like, that's whatthat's like phase two or later or something
like, Oh, so they canalready start building it. Yeah, this
is just gonna be the The twopoint one to nine billion, believe it
or not, is actually just themed Center hospital expansion. It does not
include all of this stuff that weanticipate will happen with the Department of Defense

(10:16):
and maybe other federal government agencies. When they envisioned this project a few years
ago, it was probably like lessthan a billion. Yeah, it's amazing
how past the costs are going up. Well, that's really exciting. And
this is on the east side ofSaddle Creek Road. And then the Omaha
City Council approved an amendment Tuesday toincrease the amount of tax or commit financing

(10:37):
for the Crossroads redevelopment project, takingit from seventy nine million dollars of tiff
to nearly one hundred and two milliondollars. We had a recent recently a
new group out of Salt Lake Citycalled Woodbury Corporation that has joined the ownership
and will direct the project. TheCrossroads date of construction begins has been delayed

(11:01):
to twenty twenty five, and Ithink that I know a lot of people
are frustrated, but at the sametime, it's gonna be a quality project
and it is not for the week. When it comes to building, you
know, eight hundred million dollar projectsmixed use on top of each other.
So we look forward to that andwe'll keep everybody updated on that. All

(11:22):
right, that's your news of theweek, which is brought to you by
Eagle Mortgage Eagle Mortgage Company dot com. When we come back, we're going
to bring on our friend Stacy Winters. He is the head of the Omaha
Food Lovers group on Facebook and residentrestaurant expert. We're going to be talking
about food. The goal of thenext couple of segments will be to make

(11:43):
you thoroughly hungry. That's going tohappen, and so stay tuned. You're
listening to grow Omaha. Jeff andTrenton on news Radio eleven ten KFAB.
There's a news state law that Ihave sun the brass concerned State Senator Steve
Aller and explains podcast like morning NewsPagekfab dot com and welcome back to the

(12:07):
show, Jeff Beil's and Trenton Magadet. Your service were brought to you by
Dingman's Collision Center along with Cheer Athleticsand ladies and gentlemen, if you have
a kid or a grandkid who wantsto compete and become in great shape and
build confidence and leadership skills, We'vegot the answer for you. It is

(12:28):
cheer athletics. It is part ofAll Star Cheer, which of all of
the competitive cheer styles that are outthere, is generally considered to be about
the best. And Cheer Athletics isthe Cadillac of All Star Cheer gym.
Started in Dallas, They've got abouttwelve locations or so around the country.
Omaha has one of them, thebest one if you ask me, and

(12:50):
it is located in Papilion, justsouthwest of Highways fifty and three seventy.
They offer novice, regional and nationalco ed teams that compete with the best
teams in the country. If youwant to learn more, go to c
a Omaha dot com c as inCheer Athletics Caomaha dot com and you can

(13:11):
join the All Star Chaer Revolution. So we are going to talk food and
restaurants and we have our resident expert, Stacey Winters with us. He is
the founder of Omaha Food Lovers groupon Facebook. Good morning Stacy, Good
morning gentlemen. Nice to be here. Well, it's good to have good
to have you back. And wealways start with the same question, where

(13:31):
has Stacey been? Where has Staceyeaten and dined since the last time he
was on Groma? So many placesright, So my favorite that I've been
to in this I think our lastsince our last quarter was dal That place
is phenomenal. So if you're familiarwith Marx, you know the former Marx
location in Dundee. Udalala recently openedup in that location and they've actually brought

(13:58):
some of those uh menu items fromMarx onto their menu. So they got
the recipes for the mac and cheese, the the smoked chicken lasagna, the
caramel bread pudding, those are allon the menu. And as soon as
I took a bye to that macand cheese. I was kind of just
thrown back into that moment where Iused to mark, well the views that

(14:22):
the views there, like you're sittingover the top of Dundee looking out.
It's it's a really great restaurant andthere. You know, I think their
mission, if everybody's not familiar withour mission, is they're partnered with Metro
on the their program to uh bringformerly incarcerated individuals back into the workforce.

(14:43):
And so it's you know, peoplethat necessarily don't have a lot of culinary
background. But Doug Case, who'sthe the chef head chef there, who's
you know, renowned in the Omahacommunity for his his cooking prowess, and
so he uh, he's you know, working with them, and you know,
we're gonna we're gonna end up asa better cool every community because of
it. So Metro with the CulinaryInstitute is providing a lot of the training

(15:05):
as well as Doug Case. Ihonestly don't know how that works. I
know that they just they have aprogram for the like formerly like I said,
formerly incarcerated individuals. I'm not sureif it's necessarily directly tied to their
culinary program or just I don't thinkit is. Actually I think it's just
a general program that they have. What a great concept, and all the

(15:26):
reviews have been great. I triedto get a table there on time.
I couldn't. I even I thoughtabout just using your name. That can
be good, that can be bad, But yeah, yeah, I look
at the reviews. We also Iactually went with my my son and I
went and so he got the theirlobster role, which is a Connecticut style
lobster role. So Connecticut style lobsterolis fairly simple where it's just you know,

(15:50):
the lobster, you know, themelted butter it served warm versus the
main style, which is a coldlobsterole. And I think, you know,
I've listened to, you know, some of the interviews with Doug and
the crew there, and the lopstroll is becoming kind of one of their
signature dishes now and it's it's veryvery good. So I would I would
highly recommend, you know, themac and cheese, the lobster roll.

(16:10):
They have a chocolate crimbal at,so lots of lots of good stuff there.
So what else is on the list? Good luck, good luck getting
into that tonight. Yeah, yeah, right, you can sit at the
bar. I know they have barseating too, and they will have their
patio which is phenomenal patio. ThatMarks used to have that patio and people
would you know, that was probablyone of the top two or three patios
in Omaha. So that's supposed toopen in May. I've really enjoyed Moots,

(16:33):
so Moots Pizza in Cutchside Village. It's the Atkinson Atkinson family, so
there's some serious culinary chops there aswell too. The uh they used to
have a food truck kind of Ithink during the pandemic they opened up a
food truck and I I enjoyed thepizza. I didn't love the pizza with
the food truck. So it ismorphed into you know, it's obviously learned

(16:56):
and they've got you know, differentoven now and I love the pizza that
mood. It's a pretty sizable restaurant. No, it's a smaller, very
casual, order at the counter typeplace, you know, nothing not fancy
whatsoever, but it's they're putting outsome really really solid pizza. You can
order by the slice, which youknow a lot of people. I like
the ability to order by the slice, you know, if I'm wanting to

(17:18):
go for lunch and just get youknow, a slice or too, I
don't have to order a whole pizza. So that's nice. Countryside Village.
And I don't know is the SouthCreek Breakfast Club open. It is not
open. Yeah, at last Iheard that was going to be May,
so we'll see. Yeah, it'sbeen forever, but but I think they've
done a wonderful job with with phenomenathat and also Countryside Village as a whole.

(17:41):
Like Timbers are really fun restaurants tobe very very consistent restaurant, but
what they've done with Countryside to retenantthat thing, especially with Kogi and the
restaurants so we've talked about it's beenpretty amazing. Neat to see the research.
One of my favorite bars in OmasInkwell, and the Inkwell is a
phenomenal bar. They're doing some greatcocktails. Did you see their opening a
location in Chicago? No, Yeah, with with Bill Barstow and and the

(18:04):
folks from a c X. Yeah, because because the the bar out at
the back lot in Elkhorn is actuallyran by Inkwell as well. So I
mean, I don't think a lotof people know that that bar out at
the cinema back lot out in Elkhorn. That's some of some great cocktails.
Oh I go there. I goto back lot all the time. Where
else you have been? Stacey NomadicJacks is a yeah, a burger joint.

(18:27):
Find him. It's a burger joint. It's a burger joint that's out
of They operate out of millwork Commons, so they you can order it from
Crosstrain down there cross Train draft Worksand so they're doing like the the smash
Burger, which is they're doing areally really good version of the smash Burger.

(18:48):
They've also started to do some popups you have to kind of look
for, but Monday nights periodically outat Jukes and Elkhorns, so you can
get it out west or you canget it downtown. But they have some
really tasty burgers, some tasty fries. I was like, I was eating
their fries, I'm like, whatis the seasoning? And you know,
Jack was very I like, Ilove it when people aren't afraid to share
their secret. They're just putting cellarysalt on their fries and I'm like,

(19:11):
oh, that's what it was thatwas so good. So it's a it
was a good uh a good yeah, and you know, just a simple
tip. Additionally, I did takea little trip up to Hooper Hooper Hopper
Hopper, that would be Hopper. Our guest last week was from Hopper.
Yeah, so the office up there, that's a really nice little spot up

(19:33):
there. They're serving some really goodfood, very reasonably priced. The service
is great. It was funny becausewhen I had gone up there, I'd
put it in the group, like, what what's your you know, what's
your recommendation for the office? Youknow, because everybody's you know, a
lot of people have been there,it's fairly well known, and I got
all these like recommendations And as soonas I got i walked in there,
they're like, oh, you're theone who posted that in the group,

(19:55):
asking where we've been, Like everybody'sbeen it's been so busy tonight here and
like like was that was pretty coolto see. Well, when you have
one hundred and eight something, yeah, thousand members on a Facebook page,
Omaha food lovers, you're gonna geta lot of attention when things get mentioned.
Yeah, for a bar that Ihad not been to, so I

(20:18):
enjoyed Saint Patrick's Day this year,by the way, and you know it
was remember it barely, but yeah, it was a good day. But
somehow we ended up totally non traditionalIrish bar. It wasn't even an Irish
bar, just totally non traditional. We went to the Library Pub up on
Yeah, ninetieth and Blondeo, whichI'm not a huge whiskey gut not in
Blondeo for between yeah Forton, Yeah, between fort and Maple and I was

(20:44):
I'm not like a huge whiskey guy. But if you're a whiskey guy,
there is I guarantee you there isnot a better bar. And nom they
have over two thousand varieties of whiskeythere that you can I mean, just
anything you've not heard of it's there. And they have lots of great local
beers on tap. I found likea I love pickles, so I have
found like a pickle lagger from someplace in Columbus, Nebraska. So yeah,

(21:07):
it was a pickle lager. Thatwas good. I'm gonna I'm an
open minded guy. I'm gonna picklebeer is all the rage right now.
I'm gonna know thanks you on thatone. Pickle beer is all the rage,
it's great with it's great as likesome fads don't last, like as
a Mitchellatta. Yeah yeah, picklebeer with like your like a bluddy Mary
or you know. Or we weretalking last night about a a Nebraska brewing

(21:30):
company, s'mores beer Chris's House, and uh, that does not sound appealing
for a beer. Yeah, wedon't need to make certain things. I
did. Finally, I finally madeit to the Dundee Dell since they've reopened,
you know, with the new ownership, un totally revamped them menu and
I know they're going through another kindof menu revamp right now. But you

(21:52):
know, it was I really,I really thought that I liked the atmosphere.
I know a lot of people missedthe old school Dundee Dell. I
did like the atmosphere and chips. You know what, Surprisingly I didn't.
I it was, I know,I that's kind of a sin. I
know, I know. I waslike I'd already had like I forget what
I had that day, but Ihad some fried food already that day,
and I was like not filling, you know, not filling go in that

(22:14):
direction. But it was, yeah, I was really I really enjoyed that
spot. I think the other placethat's blown up lately is the Hyde Slides
out of one hundred, the secondlocation, like one hundred and sixty eighth.
Then Q has opened up out there, and you know it's gotten hugely
popular. I can walk there fromwhere I live. Yeah, yeah,
I have you yet? No?Yeah, you have to make it.

(22:34):
Yeah, most people can walk there, just depends on how long they.
Okay, I could walk there withinI'd take my lunch twelve minutes. Okay,
okay, how's that you could walkthere in about fifteen or twenty.
Well, let's let's take our middleof the show break for the news,
and when we come back, weare going to have more restaurant talk with
Stacey Winters. He is the founderand operator of the Omaha Food Lovers group

(22:59):
on face Book and much more doto come with Stace. We also have
our commercial real estate Development Spotlight, brought to you by Nodel Companies on the
docket as well. You're listening toGrow Omaha. Sponsors are Dingman's Collision Center
and Cheer Athletics. And we'll beback after this on News Radio eleven ten
kfab Hey, I get it.Sometimes you can be radio side for every

(23:22):
day, Rosy to GINOZI, butit's right there on the podcast page under
Jim Rohodes at jfab dot com.And welcome back to the show, Jeff
Beale sitting next to Trenton Maggot. We're brought to you by Cheer Athletics and
Dingman's Collision Center, which has fourMetro area locations, one hundred and twentieth

(23:42):
and Maple right in the heart ofPapillion on Satle Creek Road in Midtown and
then also one hundred and forty fourthand Industrial Road. All do a great
job and doesn't matter whether you wantthe bodywork done or paint repairs or anything
like that, or even mechanical, they do all of that. They also
do paintless dent repair, and I'msure I know people that have got hail

(24:04):
damage yesterday and ding Men's I'm surewe'll gear up for that and we'll talk
about it next week as well. But paintless debt repair by Dingman's Closion Center,
I've seen them do wonderful work aswell as mechanical and body time for
our commercial real estate development Spotlight ofthe Week, brought to you by not
all companies, Not all companies ischanging the built environment in Omaha in a

(24:29):
big way and has been for avery long time now. Just so you
know, not all companies also doesprojects all over the country, but here
in Omaha they are famous for XSARBONVillage. They've done a lot of these
headquarters buildings like, for instance, the HDR Headquarters Building and XARBON, the
Valmont Global Headquarters Building and Heartwood Preserve. Those are not all companies projects.

(24:51):
And another one of their projects thatthey've been involved in for a long time
is River's Edge that's on the CouncilBluff side of the Bob Carey Missouri River
Pedestrian Bridge. And a couple ofweeks ago we told you about some construction
happening on the east side of River'sEdge with some new multifamily buildings, but
right now big progress being made onthe future outdoor recreation area. The Council

(25:18):
Bluff City Council approved a contribution offifty thousand dollars to qualify for and enhance
IOWA grant of a million dollars tohelp with some of the projects that are
going on on the north side ofthe Bobcarey Missouri River Bridge. In fact,
if you have been in that area. You've probably seen some tractors and
heavy equipment in there getting it ready, kind of removing some of the unkneaded

(25:41):
trees and brush. But this willhave an adventure tower, outdoor climbing wall,
a roll glide into your caving space, elevated treetop trail, a peer
lookout area. There's also going tobe a dog park planned for a green
field between Tom Hannafan Park and theI four eighty bridge, and then on

(26:03):
this south side of the I foureighty bridge, there's going to be a
playground over there. So lots ofthings happening in around River's Edge and that,
Ladies and Gentlemen, is your NoelCompany's commercial real estate development Spotlight of
the week. You can learn moreabout our sponsor by going to Nodelcompanies dot
com. We have Stacy Winters withus. He is the founder of the

(26:26):
Omaha Food Lover's page on Facebook onehundred and eight thousand members and counting.
And Stacy, we were talking lastsegment about a couple of restaurants or several
restaurants that you've tried, and beforewe go on any further, are there
any others that we missed? NoI think we're good there, all right,
new places, new places in townthat you have your eye on.

(26:48):
So number one, I would saythe most. I hate the word hype,
but the most hyped restaurant right nowis Memoir, which is from the
Flagship Restaurant Group. So I mean, and I see, you know,
good and bad, and I havenot seen anything negative about Memoir at this
point, and I think they've donean excellent job of rolling that out from
what I can tell, Like, the aesthetics of that place look beautiful,

(27:11):
So it's definitely high on my listto try. They say that it's it's
kind of like a big city restaurant. Yeah, I think then they've kind
of taken a bit from all ofthe Flagship restaurants to The menu is very
eclectic, so there's a bunch ofdifferent things on that menu, so it
sounds like something you can find, you know, find for everyone there.
I still okay, this sounds Iknow, Bruceie has been in Omaha for

(27:33):
years and years and years, butJinny Coco is now the head chef at
Bruschie, So we had j Coco, we had Jacco, and I was
a huge J. Coco fan,So I still need to get to.
I need to get to Brushie wherewhere Jinny's now the head chef at So
that's on my list. Lazy BuffaloBarbecue. It's in Blackstone where Katmandu used
to be. So one of theowners, Brady's actually from my hometown.

(27:57):
Shout out to McCook so Nebraska.Oh yeah, so I I have to
get down there. Nicks Quorum isa new the new place that's in Hilton
down It's a supper club, ishow they they're calling it, kind of
like to the you know, Wisconsin. I guess supper clubs is what they're
trying to mimic. Take off rooftopbar so a bar, but I'm all

(28:21):
about rooftop patios. So this isdowntown at I can't even which hotel that
is at, but it's at oneof the hotels downtown, so it'll be
like the highest rooftop bar you canget. Now they're starting, i think
this weekend, starting to do offerbrunch at the at the bar on Sunday.
So that's one the biggest. Theother really popular place and this is

(28:42):
you know fast food is Hawaiian Brothers. Hawaiian Bros. Is like I will
say, you know I can seethe statistics on posts in the group.
Right there's there was two posts aboutHawaiian Bros. This year that are probably
the number one and number two postsof all time in the group as far
as their post reach. Just it'sit's the pop popularity of that place is
so. I've been there twice. Is a Highway three seventy and and Interstate

(29:04):
eighty. It's Dean Hodges and hishis sons that own that franchise for for
Omaha. And it's it's kind oflike Jimmy John's, which they own a
lot of those too. Is theMenuh's not big. It's easy to order.
You can get a half order orsmall or large. They have doll
whip, I think two flavors ofdoll whip, which is really great.

(29:26):
They can get fresh pineapple. Everything'son kind of a bed of rice.
But it's it's it's easy to getin and out of there, and they
know how to run a restaurant. They do. They're really, really,
really really good. Others that Ihave on my list are Cherco or Circle.
I've been told just protronounced Churco eventhough it looks like it's Circle.
I was told from somebody who's beenthere. Churco's the Italian restaurant they opened

(29:49):
up off like one hundred and ninetysecond and yeah, it was. It
was the short lived. I wentthere for dinner. Good place. Yeah,
I enjoyed it. I saw someI saw some specials this week.
I was like, Wow, thatlooks really really good. So, you
know, I think I think they'remaking homemade pasta. So you know,
I kind of like, you know, I'm big on you know, any
place that's doing homemade pasta. I'mI'm I'm a fan of the Table.

(30:12):
Coffee Company just opened up their newfull restaurant in the former Stokes in the
Old Market downtown. So they werea just a coffee coffee shop right next
door there. So now they're afull service, like you know, breakfast
lunch restaurant down there. And Ithink the last one I had on my
list here that I want to try, it's another bar. So Secret Park

(30:36):
is down on Leavenworth in the formerbud Olsen's Bar location. Wow, I
didn't know about that one. Yeah, Secret Park. They have a little
outdoor back patio. I mean youlook at it, you would never recognize
it from Buttles. Since the SecretPark. It's really well, ladies only
need to go to our podcast ifyou want to catch up on all these
all these or you can go tothe videos on our Facebook page or excuse

(30:56):
me, on our website Gromha dotcom to catch all these. Resta yeah
for a replay? All right,Stacey stick with us for the Lightning Round.
We might have you jump in ona couple of restaurant things we're going
to mention there. So we gotStacy Winters with us, head of Omaha
Food Lovers Group on Facebook. Youare listening to Grow Omaha brought to you
by Dingman's Collision Center and Cheer Athletics. The Lightning Round Big List coming up

(31:22):
next on news Radio eleven ten Kfab. Listen to news Radio eleven ten Kfab
anywhere anytime on your free iHeartRadio appall your music radio and podcasts, and
welcome back to the show. JeffBiels and Trenton Maggot at your service.
It is time for your Perkins ChritzerConstruction Lightning Round, in which we talk

(31:48):
about a lot of things in avery short period of time. Perkins Chritzer
Construction is a full service class ageneral contractor based to hear in Omaha doing
work all over the great Greater Omahaarea, not just Omahan at suburbs,
but all the way out to Lincolnand North Platte and SIUs City and environs,
and Perkins constrictser does a great job. In fact, we have a

(32:12):
Perkins Kreutzer construction project to tell youabout, and it is thirst T thirst
T. It's a new beverage franchiseplanning to open the summer at thirty eight
thirty eight North one hundred and sixtyeight Street. This is next to a
little King restaurant and a retail stripright in front of Walmart Supercenter that we
built. That is true, andPerkins Chritzer is building out the space.

(32:37):
It's coming soon. Like I said, now here's the tricky thing. It's
spelled thhirs tea all one word, thirsty one word. It is different from
the thirst T cafe restaurants which alsohave tea in boba and all that sort
of thing. So it's a littlebit confusing, but this is Thirsty.

(32:57):
And thanks to Perkins Chritzer Construction forsponsoring and also thanks to PC Construction for
building so many damn good restaurants andretailers lately. They've been on a terror
just building a lot of these coolrestaurant and retail spaces. All right,
So guys, we have a fewthings, and Stacey may want to jump
in on some of this as arestaurant guy. First of all, Voodoo

(33:19):
Taco has opened a second downtown location, former Michael's Cantina space at eleven oh
two Harney Street in the Old Market. Voodoo does plan on keeping their other
downtown location open at twenty fifth andFarnham, fairly close to one another.
It'll be interesting to see if theymade any improvements to that space or how
much of improvements because it was aMexican restaurant. Yeah, I gotta pump
in Michael photos. I saw coolbuilding on the outside. Yeah. A

(33:44):
B five Brewing Company opened earlier thismonth sixty first and Maple and Downtown Benson,
led by master brewer Aaron Bush andhis family, a diverse range of
craft beers, each one a uniqueblend of flavors and craftsmanship. Not a
bad name to have in that business. They took over the former Infusion.
Now get a load of this, guys. The Jewel is coming back.

(34:05):
Yes, the Jewel on Capital Thiswas the live music venue inside the Capitol
District. Marriott Hotel closed last fall, much to the dismay of many many
music live music officionados. They arenow actively hiring servers and bartenders. Opening
is coming soon. Support them. It's a great place. Had a soft
opening last night. That's what Idid not go. I just saw somebody

(34:30):
post about it. Yeah. Acouple of closings. Papa Roddy, a
Malaysian bakery chain, had been inthe Miracle Hills area seventy seven twenty three
North hundred and fourteenth Street. Theyhave closed permanently. And then Zipline Brewing
Company plans to permanently close it's WestOmaha tap room, the one on two

(34:50):
hundred and fourth near f Street. The Zipline Downtown tap room will remain open
at seven twenty one North fourteenth Street. And then we have let's see,
Bank of America is going to bereplacing a dead KFC at forty fourth and
Dodge that's been vagant for a while, has been. They're going to tear
that down, and then b ofA will build a forty two hundred square

(35:15):
foot branch office there. B ofA and Chase, you know, two
of the largest banks in the entirecountry have been expanding all over the Omahiari
like crazy, even in a timewhen we hear that banks don't want branch
offices anymore. Yeah, it's kindof promising. So so that's all in
play there. And then Megasaver representativesand city officials met with members of the

(35:37):
Elmwood Park Neighborhood Association earlier this weekto hash out details about a planned gas
station and convenience store and the formerFudruckers building Southeast Corner seventy second and Dodge
Megasaver, in order to alleviate sometraffic concerns, will build a third entrance
which will go into the neighboring retailstrip, which includes chappoe Land Starbucks.

(36:00):
So now the thought is they canproceed forth and turn Fudrutgers into a Megasaver.
And I still am going to useAnderson Convenient Markets for their Ammaco gas
You and me both huge fans ofAnderson Amaco. And then finally, if
you want to check out a placeto eat, Sarah Baker Hanson's grow Omaha

(36:22):
Eats restaurant review is on the growOmaha website page. Just go to grow
Omaha dot com and click on eatsthat's eats Eats. On the navigation bar,
you can see the most recent one, as well as every restaurant review
going to the beginning of time. This one is Stacey helped me out.

(36:45):
Phoba? Is that the way youpronounce it? Phoba? Okay? It's
a Vietnamese restaurant with very good Bondmesandwiches. It is at one hundred and
eightieth in Q. There's a retaildevelopment there anchored by High V It's over
in that area and looks like itlooks like it's a pretty good place.

(37:07):
She basically said there might be aVietnamese restaurant in town she likes a little
better, but she did say it'squite a good place and perhaps worth trying.
Have you tried that one? Ihave not. I'm a huge fan
of bond Me sandwiches, though,if you haven't tried a bond Me sandwich,
you have to try one of those, all right. I've made many
restaurant confessions in front of Stacy before, and here comes another one. I'm

(37:28):
gonna get I'm gonna get a hardtime about this one. But I have
never had a bond Me sandwich. But that is also just like hide slides
within walking distance of my house,Trenton, have you had a Bond Me
sandwich before? I haven't had eitherone of those, a bond or a
Me that or a slide. Youknow. In fact, you probably couldn't

(37:50):
get much different than hide slides anda bond Me sandwich, but we'll give
that a try. All right, the music's playing, which means we're done.
Stacy Winters, thanks for joining us. Thank you. That's Stacy Winters,
also known as the head and founderof the Omaha Food Lovers group on
Facebook. That's it for this week. I'm Jeff Beals and I'm Trenton maggot.
