on the Golden State Media Concepts PodcastNetwork. Yeah, I come, writing
(00:48):
class and writing hard. It's timefor adventure in the Modern West with Bobby
Benson and the b Bobby writers.Today's exciting story the Ghost Rustlers. You've
(01:29):
always told this story of Bobby Bensonand the b Barb Cowboys. I want
to tell you how young Bobby becameowner and little boss of the b Barb
Ranch. You see, it wasthis way. Old Bart Benson was a
gold prospector, and one night, just as he was about to make camp,
he heard the crying of a babycoming from a clump of bushes.
He took the baby and headed theCactus City, where he hoped his friend
(01:53):
Windy Wales would help him find theboy's parents. But despite all efforts,
no trace has ever been found tothis day of the baby's father and mother.
So then, although Old Bart neverlegally adopted the baby, he named
him Bobby Benson and treated him likehis own son. Old Bart put a
(02:13):
large ranch in southern Texas and tookWendy Whales along with him to help with
the bringing up of the child, and he engaged Tex Mason as foreman of
the ranch and guardian of the boyuntil Bobby should come of age. Text
took on Harker, a full bloodedIndian, who taught Bobby all red Indian
craft and knowledge of nature. Irish, another hired hand, loved the boy
(02:36):
just as much as the others. All that when Old Bart died and left
the ranch to Bobby, he hadfour staunch friends to look after him,
Tex Mason, Windy Whales, Harker, the Red Indian, and Iron Though
Now at last, story of BobbyBenson, the Little Boss of the bee
Barby Ranch. The Ghost Rustlers oldmines are numerous in the mountains of the
(03:05):
Big Ben Country of Texas. Todaymost of the mines have been abandoned,
but in one tunnel of the oldSilver Ghost mine, something is going on.
While three rough looking men flatten themselvesagainst the tunnel wall, a fourth
man leans over a box that hasa long plunger in it. It looks
not unlike a tire pump. Thefourth man yells, wire in the hole.
(03:27):
Fire the wire in the hole, fire hole, wire in the hole.
Well, I know to do it. Boys, take it easy,
rocks while him to take the pad. I could have missed fire and give
it time. What did I tellyou, fellow, when you're playing with
(03:53):
dynamite, you're playing with death. We'll just take it easy. Lets the
power of fumes flow away and thensee if we ope the door to a
lot of money. Yeah, thousanddollars a day between us, the only
beef steak mine in the world.Hey, tax, you wear your six
(04:24):
shooter today? Thought you didn't liketo wear that? Hadn't gun dumping hot
weather, Bobby. I don't likeword at anytime, but well, I
reckon, I might as well giveyou the bad news, son, How
that we've lost twenty ahead of ourbest stairs on the last eight days.
Son, kill It just disappeared, disappeared. Wow, maybe they just warned
(04:45):
off so much. Shus. We'vehad cattalogs for weeks from the bad lambs,
but they bore we turned up allthese stairs disappeared from that past Jolde
by Ghost Mountain, and they werethe fattest and best looking thief criticism.
I heard that spells r U St l e R and me rustlers M
golly, But we haven't had anytrouble with cattle seas and I don't know
where we've got a nurse on.But so far none of the boys have
(05:08):
been able to find any sign ofWe're meeting Hawk over by the herd,
and see we can find out acouple of three letter words, I meaning
who and how hey he comes?Iris, well I had him out there
after him burs woo woo woo.All right, irish? How many head
(05:29):
disappeared last night? Just three?Just three? Now? How are they
able to cut three spears out ofI had heard with you and Hawk of
gardener? Or did you boys tellyourselves a couple of bedtime stories and go
ninety nine? The next None ofus slept all night. They kept moving
around to herd, didn't hear anythingthat sounded strange, and didn't see nothing.
And then this morning we made aquick tally three more gone. What
(05:53):
hark is it? He's as puzzledas we are to our garage. Seems
like we're up against ghost, rustlings, cash maybe to rustly. Here's the
truck, Ah, no tire tracks, and the boys would have heard the
truck anyway. I'd even admit thepossibility of a helicopter, but those things
are noisy too, and we knowthere are no hidden canyons around here.
That's right, Irish cliffs go straightup on all sides of the range.
(06:16):
I've always considered this the one rustlerproof passed you in the ranch. What
can we do about CAx lose thehood out of here. Ah, that's
quitting in the face of trouble. And if they're smart enough to steal them
in here, they'll get them anywhere. And we gotta stop those cattle thieves
that we'll lose a lot of moneythis year. You gotta plan tis.
I wish I did. But onething we're gonna do. We're making a
(06:38):
permanent camp out here until we stopthis business. Bobby, Yeah, cast
you right on back to the ranchand bring back enough foods for a couple
of days. Also our fed rolls. Tell wake on the FETO to be
back here by sundown, and bringrifles for all of us. Oh yeah,
and bring back that big map ofthis part of the big bend too,
right, cash, Uh you wantwindy too? No, No,
we can't leave the rest of theranch unguarded. I go all right,
(07:00):
way, you get the stuff Igotta pack horse roads plenty of GRAMA torpoon
(07:25):
says we can make attend off whenneed work. You must be thinking,
we're gonna be here for quite awhile. We're not leaving until we solved
the mystery always catching the rufflers.Well, the boys and I aren't leaving,
but I think you ought to goneback and take charge of things of
the ranch. Oh cat. Everytime you want to include me out of
something, you're trying to tell meI'm in charge of the ring, Bobby,
These cattle thieves might be hard tohandle them, Yes, sir,
(07:46):
and that's why you need me here. You boys will be busy every minute.
You don't need me to do thecooking, keep hot coffee going all
night. And if wheel trouble comeso you tend back. The lanch will
be in coorsement. Huh. Youcan't miss the all right. But if
things get a little bit rugged andI have to send for more of the
boys, remember that's your job,and you asked for it. Yes,
(08:11):
went away, came the feto bealone by shoppers waiting my thoughts. I'll
start getting care right away, canyou. And the bar's gonna be up
all night. You need a goodhot meat. Looks like we've got a
new door, rang Irish, Okay, cookie, but it better be good.
(08:45):
And cowboys still out there rocks Yeah, I said they're gonna stay a
while. The kid just throw itup with a pack horse floater with a
gruff at me. Take a lookthree of them and the kids. Maybe
we better lay off a few daysof doing it. Why he can't figure
an answer, I gimmick in athousand years. They're gonna grab the cattle
while they're grabbing us. Good.Only wish we would set up the process
(09:05):
more than five steers a night, then we'd take the whole herd. What
do you make to Telly Irish?I counted him twice, texts it's just
(09:26):
forty three heads? What's my cat? Two? Cash Well's right? I
reckon and come morning there's still betterbe forty three head of camera or I
want to know the reason why.Hey, Harker, Harker, Yes,
mister dicks, have you seen asingle thing about this herd? That looks
strange. No, wait, therewas one thing. What it might be
(09:50):
important, Luke steers stay over closeto cliff increasing nut. There's good there.
There's some hit. Yeah, that'strue. But cows are curious.
They do a lot of things thatdon't make sense. Not a sign of
a break in that clever sheer rock. Where goes the sun down? We'll
(10:11):
be docking a little while. Well, I don't think we're gonna expect any
action till almost midnight. The moonwill be gone. Then we'll just take
it easy for a while. Butwhen it gets really dark, yeah,
Texas, we'll remember we're not ridingaround here. We're gonna keep right in
the middle of those kettles. Andif they start staying piecing, we'll look
(10:33):
out for the horns. Well,Dronna, you're not gonna try and bringing
any beef tonight? Why not? We'll ask of a couple of those cowboys
out there around the hearth. Look, those steers will punch right up against
(10:54):
the rock door we did swing itopen them steers will come in the smell
of that failure. Loosen the tracksand like fish the cat and if we
have five inside, close the door. And that's that. Okay, But
brother, I op a cowboy.Don't come in with him. If he
does, we'll take care of Dobby. You want rocks. Handle the door
and be ready to close it whenI blink my flashlight. Now get to
your place. Throw the light switch. Okay, Now open the up.
(11:33):
I'll get the scent of the hayin a couple of seconds. Rest be
ready, Oh be way, thisway, this way. One of those
cowboys expired the gimmick. No,no, no, you don't close the
(11:54):
door. Await I gotta get thatcash. Rustler, there are bless that
gunhead where I can see it inthe follow this light because tell her if
I have to shoot, I can'tmiss. And this way quick if you
want to live. Rustlers have beenreading one of the b barb herds grazing
(12:35):
in the shadow of Ghost Mountain's steepside, and Bobby Benson takes Mason and
the cowboys have been trying to catchthe cattle thieves in the act. The
rustlers, however, seem to beoperating out of a carefully camouflage tunnel,
and now they have not only stolenmore cattle, but they have caught texts
blinded by the beam of a flashlightin the hands of one of the rustlers.
Text jumps from his horse and leapstowards the cattle fields. Alright,
(12:56):
golly, I got you now,of cowboy, I got you. Wi
sackles in the case. I'm draggingthe cowboy inside and just knocked in a
hurry. Here come the other. He was here about here when he ended.
(13:24):
I saw someone using a frustrators. It must have been texted text.
Oh's there doc on them wrestlers havegot text and snaps him into nowhere,
just like they cut us. Tears. Golly, fellas, isn't there anything
(13:52):
we can do? Hasn't been alone, It's not ever spent from my life.
I take it easy, poppy. We did all we put in the
dark, the whole daylight pretty quicknow. But it doesn't make sense.
We heard text yell and saw thebeam of a flashlight and when you got
bas nothing's right. It must havebeen at least one of them, man
(14:13):
maw, because texts flash lights wasn'tworking. It wasn't come on. We
can't just said he we've gotta dosomething. I reckon. It's like enough
to make it tally, it hurts, got it enough to make it easy.
I don't care about the steers. We've gotta find text. I have
child the tricks anyway, Oh yourphone? He we are men? Where's
(14:37):
that map? Text? Look atthat butter fire life last night? You
see him sticker in his blankets. You don't want a good look at that
map? You do here? Fear? What kind of a map? Pity
the engineers? That shows everything?Next he made some mush on it with
(14:58):
a pencil, kind of heard thesea though, Irish, hold the Latin
over the maps. Sure, littleboss, m oh this happen? You
know it's just on the other sideof that mountain, Eh, the whole
super mark you remember, though,it's because still a ghost mine. Look
(15:18):
how this map shows the mine shaftsand one of them comes a through the
mountain of his side, or likelike a turn. Jeez, u's the
folsto. There's only one thing wecan do, and we're doing it.
We'll got a saddle up and righton the other side of the mountain.
Maybe the answer is in the oldsuper mine. Come on, let's gold
(15:56):
be more than a mile further thanthe old mare. Wow, this is
really a narrow road. Would besoon let trucks be using it look hire
trucks. Maybe maybe only last night. Hey, that wine hasn't been working
ten years. Somebody threw something upthere. These drugs be used much eighteen
(16:19):
One truck comes down the road. Now this is no place to argue with
a truck coming down grade. Let'sget in the touch there, pu Twich
come on, just two out ofsight and what that truck? Swir Irish,
(16:45):
come on, Hawker, let's getback. We get a good look.
Trucks. Okay, you'm here, comes down? No, No,
(17:07):
it's just me miss slow through meshop turn? Why did you see it?
I see it? To hawk thislot spe from the truck. Bobby
(17:33):
Texts and the cowboys have been tryingto stop rustling reds on a b Barbi
heard and Text has been captured bythe cattle thieves led by Bobby. Harker
and Irish are headed for the oldsilver mines, thought to be abandoned.
But now Bobby and Harker have spotteda slow moving truck coming down the narrow
road from the mine. A truckthat is dripping block. Fuck, that's
(18:02):
Fnock's blood rooping so much. We'regonna stop it. See Bobby boy,
I think maybe missing steers in thattruck on way to meet though, but
not what you think. Oh well, what means rustlers must be operating in
man Omar. We're going in thereif they be rustlers up there, and
(18:25):
me think, he think so,all right, we'll not go busting in.
We get in when they're not rooping. But hell, you stay here
with irish and horses. Mis gota head. Find out what's going on
up there with no woman? Twiceas easy to see at one man.
We know want them fellows know weare around here. We'll go back to
horses. He find out what's what? Go now, Bobby boy, that'd
(18:48):
