Belén Blanton nació con atresia tricuspídea en Caracas, Venezuela en el 1965. Cuando nació, muchos doctores le dijeron a su mamá que ella no sobreviviría. Afortunadamente su mamá la llevó a un cardiólogo que tenía contactos con el Houston Children 's Hospital en Texas donde la operaron haciéndole un procedimiento llamado Potts Shunt realizado por Dr. Denton Cooley.
Desde los 15 años comenzó a experimentar complicaciones incluyendo arritmias. Cuando cumplió 21 años se mudó a los Estados Unidos. A los 30 experimentó endocarditis, Síndrome de Eisenmenger, Hipertensión pulmonar y fibrilación atrial. Actualmente está casada y tiene 2 hijos y recientemente creó una fundación sin fines de lucro para ayudar a los niños venezolanos que nacen con cardiopatías congénitas. Considera que vivir con una cardiopatía congénita es un reto pero es feliz y agradecida con la vida.
