Yeah, I uh I came back to tell you that
I won't be able to go with you after all.
Oh yeah, you see, I just got a telegram from
the sheriff in Springfield. I gotta go over there and
pick up a prisoner and bring him back here for trial.

know you've been looking forward to this just because I
can't take you.

Speaker 1 (02:49):
There's no reason that you you shouldn't go. You know,
there are plenty of fellows who'd be more uhappy to
take you.

Speaker 6 (02:53):
Oh, you're right now, shouldn't be any trouble at all
the time, two or three escorts for the next half hours.

Speaker 2 (02:59):

get back. Huh.

Speaker 6 (03:05):
So on so long, Matt. I hope you have a
real nice trip.

would have taken it to the social I sweety.

Speaker 6 (03:34):
A doctor, but I don't think i'd have gone anyway.
Matt sort of took the wind out of me.

Speaker 7 (03:40):
But Kitty, ever depend on a marshal or a doctor
either when it comes to social affairs.

Speaker 5 (03:47):
I suppose I.

Speaker 6 (03:47):
Should have resigned myself to that by this time, But
it hurts all the same. Sometimes I think I'd be
better off if I got out of this town.

Speaker 7 (03:56):
Maybe you want to stand Francis sounded all no, no, Kitty,
you know you feel different. When Matt gets back, everything
will be the same again.

will always be the same.

Speaker 2 (04:13):
The Arkansas is just over there, Kiddy.

Speaker 7 (04:16):

Speaker 6 (04:20):
You're getting hungry, doc, Oh, I won't have.

Speaker 7 (04:22):
Any trouble eating a good Chize breakfast. Oh, but more important,

Speaker 5 (05:14):
What can he do for him?

Speaker 6 (05:15):

I don't think he'd make it.

Speaker 6 (05:22):
Rud. Stewart's place isn't pass from here.

Speaker 7 (05:24):
If you're write, Kitty, you'd better try to get him there.
You've been a bigger help, Rudd. I appreciate you letting
us bring this man in here.

Speaker 3 (05:45):
He ain't actually least I could do, Doc, considering what
you've done. That's one thing I don't think I could
ever do, take a bullet out of a man.

Speaker 2 (05:53):
I'm just thankful we got it out in time.

Speaker 3 (05:56):

Speaker 2 (07:42):
Take a few days, though. I should get him into
the office. But he can't be moving til tomorrow at least. Uh.

Speaker 7 (07:48):
But he'll have to have proper care today, Doc.

Speaker 2 (10:20):
No, I I I'll be will enough to go on
another week.

Speaker 1 (10:24):
Now. That ought to give you enough time to sell
that long branch and then you can come on to
California with me.

Speaker 2 (10:29):
How about that?

Speaker 1 (10:31):
Don't tempt me no with your money and my money
buys a whole stack of long branches in San Francisco.

Speaker 6 (10:38):
Where'd you get all your money?

Speaker 2 (10:39):
Anyway? Boor?

Speaker 1 (10:40):
I had a good bit saved up before I joined
that trail hurt, and then we might pay money from
Med and give me a nice steak.

Speaker 6 (10:47):
If you were really smart, you'd put that money in
a bank instead.

Speaker 2 (10:51):
Of a bank yet was safe. I want that money
ifere I can see it.

Speaker 8 (10:58):
Here's a man riding up our front, and you know,

Speaker 3 (11:47):
You ain't here?

Speaker 2 (11:48):
He left a pretty good trail leads to this place.

Speaker 3 (11:51):
Ain't nobody here besides me?

Speaker 2 (11:54):
When's the last time you looked in your barn?

Speaker 3 (11:56):
Ain't nobody down there either?

Speaker 2 (11:58):
You wouldn't mind if I seen for myself? Would you?

Speaker 3 (12:00):
Ain't no use shooting? Take my word for it? And
I just down there, bit to go?

Speaker 2 (12:04):
Who was not house?

Speaker 8 (12:05):

Speaker 3 (12:10):
No, no, no, no, no, no, that's my wife.

Speaker 2 (12:13):
He's off. You said there was nobody else here, and I.

Speaker 3 (12:15):
Meant to besides her.

Speaker 2 (12:17):
You turn around, no, turn around and lead the way.

Speaker 3 (12:21):
Get that the gun out of my back?

Speaker 2 (12:22):
Do as I say? Old man? Are all? Keep you
all right?

Speaker 3 (12:24):
All right?

Speaker 6 (12:32):
See?

Speaker 3 (12:33):
Ain't nobody here?

Speaker 2 (12:35):
Where's that door? Lead to? Just the bedroom?

Speaker 4 (12:39):
All right, Dean, If you're in there, come out, don't
try anything. I'll kill the old man, all right, We're
coming in.

Speaker 6 (12:50):
Move open it, drop it mister, catch your hand up, gun,
I said, all right, now you get out of here, mister,
I'll kill you.

Speaker 2 (13:07):
He's in there. Any you're hiding on, get up. I
don't think you got the nerve to shooting.

Speaker 5 (13:15):
Don't try me.

Speaker 2 (13:16):
Mister, get out of the way. You killed him.

Speaker 5 (13:27):
He didn't have to do that.

Speaker 2 (13:28):
He was gonna leave. You don't know what he'd done.

Speaker 3 (13:31):
Kidding well, for a man flat on his back, you
sure got well in a hurry.

Speaker 2 (13:35):
I owed him him bullets at least. Now my money's safe.

Speaker 1 (13:40):
We're gonna have a clear trail to California now, kidding
doing me, you're losing your mind.

Speaker 6 (13:47):
Come on, Rod, let's get him back to bed.

Speaker 2 (14:03):
Doc Well man, when'd you get back a few minutes ago? Oh,
we had a little excitement about you that.

Speaker 1 (14:10):
Yeah, so I hear Mars Grimmick was telling us something
about it down at the stable. Thought I had come
over hearing at.

Speaker 2 (14:14):
The full story. Well, Kitty should be the one to
tell her. She was right in the middle of it.
Mark said, I'd find her up here. Oh no, no,
she's not here right now, but she usually this. You
see that Dee Murdoch fella. As in the next room name.

Speaker 7 (14:25):
Kitty's been watching over him like a schoolgirl with a
lame kitten.

Speaker 2 (14:29):
She has. Yeah, how's this Murdoch doing? Oh fine, fine,
So all I'd do is keep in bed.

Speaker 7 (14:35):
Ordinarily a man's bad office he was when we found him,
would be laid up.

Speaker 2 (14:38):
For a couple of weeks, but not him. And this
is only the fourth day. What'd you do with the man?
He killed? Out there? We buried him at Rudd's place.

Speaker 7 (14:45):
I got out there not long after it happened, and
poor Rudd, he was struggling to dig a grave, so
so I helped him. I knew that you'd want to
know all about him, so I wrote down a full description.
Let me see, it's on the desk, along with my
coroner's report.

Speaker 2 (15:00):
Yeah, why'd you bring Murdock in the dodge, doc?

Speaker 7 (15:03):
Well, not until the next morning. I didn't want to
move in that day, and it's a good thing I
didn't too. He started to run a bad fever. So
Kitty and I spent the night at Rudd's place, and
you should have seen her, matchie. She was up most
of the night keeping wet claws on his forehead. And
if you ever need a good nurse, you know where
to get.

Speaker 1 (15:20):
This description fits the man I was supposed to pick
up in Springville. What his name is Blade Grant. By
the time I got there, he broke in jail. Well, wow,
you might if I go in and talk to Murdac.

Speaker 2 (15:31):
No, no, come on, Dean, this is Marshall Dillon. He
wants to talk to you. Oh. Hello, Dan didn't know
his time was big enough to ever Marshall, And I
don't tell me. Kitty hasn't told you about Marshall Dillon.
Oh she didn't. Well, huh, well, I'll be in the
other room if you need me, Dean. How well did

(15:57):
you know Blade Grant? Who? Blake Grant, the man who
killed at Rudd's place. Oh? Was that his name? I'm
pretty sure of it. What did you know about him?

Speaker 4 (16:06):
Nothing?

Speaker 2 (16:07):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (16:07):
Blake Grant and his partner wrapped the bank in Springville.
The sheriff stopped Grant and jailed him, but the partner
got away with the money. Five days ago, the partner
came back, killed the sheriff and let Grant out of jail. Marshall,
I don't know nothing about I just got in from Springville.
I was supposed to bring Grant back here.

Speaker 2 (16:23):
For trial. Well, all I know is Marshall. He's a
man tried to rob me.

Speaker 1 (16:27):
If it's the same one man, they tell me you
keep your money in that saddle bag.

Speaker 2 (16:33):
That's right, If you don't mind, I think I'll take
a look now.

Speaker 6 (16:47):
He was kiddy Chester.

Speaker 3 (16:49):
Wait a minute, I seen hi from across the street.

Speaker 5 (16:55):
Why didn't I you were back?

Speaker 2 (16:57):
We rode in just a little bit ago.

Speaker 6 (16:58):
Where's mass?

Speaker 2 (16:59):
He went up to Doc's office.

Speaker 6 (17:00):
I was just going there myself.

Speaker 2 (17:02):
O wall walk with you. We heard all about what
happened to you out at Rudd's place. That sure was something.

Speaker 6 (17:08):
Well, I'll never forget it.

Speaker 2 (17:10):
How was your tipping.

Speaker 9 (17:12):
Long, dusty and all for nothing? Gunshots? I'd like to
jump from Doc's office. Man, hellove, Kitty, what happened was done?

Speaker 2 (17:29):
I had to shoot a man in there Chester Jean,
Oh Dean, Wait, he's dead. No, let's see. Give you
better tell Kitty what happened? Yeah, maybe you better, oh, Kitty.

Speaker 1 (17:50):
Dean Murdoch had a partner, Blade Grant, the man he
killed out at Rudds.

Speaker 2 (17:54):
They rubbed a bank up in Springville.

Speaker 1 (17:56):
Dean. The sheriff caught Grant, the Dean got away and
he came back and broke Grant out of jail.

Speaker 2 (18:02):
And killed the sheriff.

Speaker 6 (18:03):
I can't believe that.

Speaker 2 (18:04):
Well, that's true.

Speaker 1 (18:06):
When he took Grant to the place where he hid
the money, Grant tried to take all the money.

Speaker 2 (18:10):
And shot Dean in the process. Dean got away and
you know the rest. He told me that just before
he died.

Speaker 6 (18:17):
But he wasn't that kind of a man.

Speaker 2 (18:21):
The bank money was marked, Kitty. It's in there if
you want to see it.

Speaker 6 (18:28):
Why'd you have to kill him?

Speaker 2 (18:32):
Because he drew.

Speaker 1 (18:32):
First, Kitty, and he knew I had him dead the rights.
I'm sorry it happened the way did I I understand
how you felt about him.

Speaker 2 (18:45):
There's no reason for you to be sorry.

Speaker 6 (18:47):
That your job, I guess, part of your rotten job.
If you'll excuse me, I think i'd better get back
to the Long Branch, Kitty, being Saturday and all.

Speaker 2 (19:02):
Kiddy, I walked you back, miss Kitty. Thank you? Justin
Oh dog? What do you think? Well, she took it
a lot better than I thought she would. Why don't
we take care of things here and then then going

(19:24):
down the long brass than kid? You drinker? Yeah, I
think she'd like that done smoke, but you just directed them.
