(00:00):
Hello everyone, Happy Wednesday. Currentlydriving to Delray Beach, Florida, to
this windy drive here for those asking, thanks for the emails, Thanks for
the thoughts. Note we were notin the path of the hurricane. We're
over in Vero Beach, Florida, which is on the other side of Tampa,
straight across. And although we didget some outer bands and some squall

(00:24):
lines come through, you know, deep profitable moisture getting pulled up as the
thing goes north. No issues here, but man, I've seen some footage
at cedar Key and and Perry. We have a site up there in Perry.
I know where. That's how I'vebeen there. I've been to cedar
Key as well. And I workedat at and T cedar Key. From
what I remember, I worked atGainesville for a couple of weeks of overtime

(00:46):
up there. I stayed in Gainesvillewhen I was at AT and T and
Direct TV. And so cedar Keyis like this little little island, like
a little key, right. Yeah. I remember going over this bridge or
roadway highway and it was like clambadgers something on the right and the left,
and then you get out to thecedar Key it's like this little town.
It's maybe the size of like aWalmart parking lot. I mean it's

(01:08):
not big at all. And there'slike, you know, a couple of
bed and breakfast, a boat rampon the gulf, a restaurant or two,
a couple of pharmacies, a coupleof houses, and everybody knows everybody.
I actually instant. I didn't install. I repaired. There's a very
good of Cedar keys. A museumthere, like an antique thing and you

(01:32):
know, shows all kinds of oldstuff from that area. And they had
like like a couple of different buildingsright, like kind of a walking walk
through tour thing, you know. And they had these old phones, man,
and some of them were rotary someor whatever. And I was at
at and T and they reported nodial town or shorten out. So these

(01:55):
phones they had live right, andI could pick up the phone and listen,
you know, you could like backin the Alexander Graham Bell Day or
whatever, you know, picked uplisten, can't dial on it whatever.
But I'm like, what do youwant me to do this? You know,
it could be any one of thesephones. A phone could be shorting
this out. These phones are old. The phone lines were all old.
I mean, there was thousands ofthem everywhere, and I didn't know where
to go. I was trying totrace it out. I don't know what
I ended up doing. I'd probablyended up disabling a couple of phones.

(02:17):
I didn't know it and just leftbecause there's no way of getting dial turning
that and there's no way of runningwires in that place. There's no way
of trouble shooting. It was amess. Anyways, that little place cedar
Key is definitely feeling the impacts ofthe storm starts, I gotta tell you
from what I've seen on line sofar. Also up there in the big
Band area. I mean a lotof people in the towns had never heard

(02:38):
of the One guy was walking downthe streets like there, I think I
want the sidewalk. I mean,it's just a huge ocean in front of
them, stop signs out of water. Crazy crazy. I hope those people
evacuated, like they said, ifthey can't fend for themselves, because now
you're endangering other people going there totry to rescue you, you know,

(02:59):
just like I said. And Ithink yesterday's episode or day before, I'm
hard at it. I'm not leavingno matter what the hurricane is, We're
about to go through a feeder banright now. You'll hear it on the
on the windshield. But if Imake that decision, I'm not going to
call for help because I was stupidabout to stay. So uh, that's
you know, if you're going tostay, make sure you get everything ready

(03:19):
and hunger it out. So yeah, we're we're clear here. Like I
said, just the outer feeder banis getting pulled up by the south,
So there's gonna be a lot ofpower outages, a lot of restoration up
there, a lot of repairs,a lot of aid needed. But you

(03:40):
know, the rest of the evenTampa Bay though, was with the storm.
Search had a lot of water downin the streets. You know what
happens to a hurricane is as it'sgoing forward, it doesn't even need to
be spinning fast or or you knowa lot of rain or whatever. Think
of it in your pool, rightsit in your pool, take your hand

(04:01):
straight up and down and put thepalm in your hand in the water.
You know your fingers will stick itout and push in front of you.
That's what happens with the hurricane asit's approaching. It's pushing all that water.
That's where the storm surge comes from. Between the rain pushing, they're
not the rain to wind pushing thoseouter bands you know, flowing at fifty
sixty miles an hours. They're whippingaround. Plus the rain plus the storm

(04:26):
moving, you get storm surge.Storm surge is more life threatening than it
is for lightning, your tornadoes, whatever, because the most powerful force of
nature is water. Three inches ofwater, you can move a car,
you know, you can get trappedthe house, you get electrocuted, you
could. You know, there's athere's a lot of things that can happen
with storm surge. I'm glad thatRon de Santos had said, you know,

(04:54):
they talk to the hotels and stufflike that to make them, you
know, accommodating. It's because hesaid, you're not gonna leave your pets
home. You're not gonna leave ahome because the hotel says, no,
they're gonna be very accommodating. Youtake your pets with you, and they
need you at this time. Youknow, you got to be a piece
of trash, a piece of garbage, a piece of useless, breathing,

(05:15):
useless breathing waste to leave your animalshome and to go take off and hang
out in the hotel room. Ifyou can't bring your hotel or your your
animal to a hotel, find somewhereelse to go. Go to a friend's
house, go to a family's house, Go somewhere. Don't leave your pets.
That's ridiculous. What's that dog gonnado floating and swimming for his dear

(05:35):
life in the house or getting youknow, drowned in there because its got
nothing to stand on, nothing toeat for days, you don't know when
you're coming back. It's just disgusting. People have done that many times,
and it pisses me off, Itreally does. You wouldn't find me,
leave my animal, got have mybird with me, my lizard, my
cat, and we'd be rolling outif I had to. I'll live in
a car if I have to.But anyway, you can hear the feeder

(05:56):
bands right now. They come witha vengeance. It's bright blue skies.
And then you'll get this and uh, you know, blinding rain, and
then I'll ask about two three minutesand it goes away. But anyways,
vin Rol, you get to thevideo last night kind of chilled out and
made its chicken Starter fry made anAsian sauce when it was pretty good.

(06:19):
And so today I gotta go wrapup a couple of things that I haven't
been able to get done. Ithink, so I'm gonna get that video
done at that radiotity QT forty tenmeter radio. But then I got another
radio that showed up. It's adual band by another company, Little twenty
five water real tiny and if alot of people like tiny radios for getting

(06:41):
on vhf uh because they fit inlittle compartments on their dashboard, maybe this
will fit in new excuse me inyours. Maybe you know I have a
need for it. We'll find outwhat it does and what's so special about
it. As far as the gaysu ft five D so, I was
beginning all day on that yesterday onAPRS I am. I'd noticed that the
battery lasted pretty much all day.I did shut it off for a couple

(07:03):
hours while I was at the officedints and stuff, but the majority I
was on smart beaconing and running allday at battery you know on that thing
is quite well. You could usethat thing for APRS all day. That
was on a high power as well. And the one thing I don't like
about it is it takes a longtime to charge with that charger that comes

(07:25):
with it was hours and hours.I mean I was looking at it like
four or five hours later and Ithink it was only half charge. So
I guess I got to opt fora quick charger if they make one for
that rapid charger, which is probablyanother money thing, you know, they
know. I mean for me,it doesn't bother me. I come home
from the day, I throw iton charges like my phones everything else doesn't
bother me. I'm sleeping while I'scharging. But it in the field if

(07:46):
you need something like that, definitelynot the most efficient in charging out in
the field, So keep that inmind. And that's all. Just wanted
to burn a few minutes, sevenminutes, eight minutes here Hurricane scene is.
Its season is not over. Thisis by far the beginning of the
peak. So have a plan,be prepared, be ready. And one

(08:11):
video that I'm going to put outmay not be for you. But I've
heard somebody tell me today. Iasked him, well, he said,
what do you think the letters tobe? Like, Well, look at
the radar. What do you see? Should I leave? Now? Look
at the radar. Well, Idon't know how to use that. I
don't have a radar. Who doesn'tuse a radar? A radar is very
just everyday life now, if youwant to plan stuff, if you want
to see what the weather is.It's not scientific. It's very easy to

(08:35):
understand. I could I can makea video about that. You know,
radar mainly for precipitation, but there'sother radars, you know, win velocity
maps and there's stuff like that whichshow different things. I can get into
that. I think that would bea pertinent video. And if you think
so too, you can send anemail hand Radio Concepts at gmail dot com.
And and please tell me if ifyou have a second right at email.

(08:56):
I'm not dashing you. This isa judge free zone. Nobody gets
judged in this podcast. Tell meif you've never used the radio radar and
you have no idea what it doesor what it means, because I'd like
to know. I may have cameoff the wrong way and said, who
knows it use radar? Well,if you don't, okay, that would
give me some fuel to make avideo. Even more, I'm pretty sure

(09:18):
even my wife, I've taught her, she knows how to use radar,
and my kids, who are intheir early twenties use the radar. Would
it work it or do whatever?Oh yeah, I guess they'll just today.
But if you've never used the radarand you don't have any idea what
it means, I'd like to know, please, just for my own benefit,
just to know. I'll tell youwhat. The best radar that I

(09:41):
use is my radar. My radaris a free app and they have paid
app that my radar could be awhole video in itself. It's it's really
got a lot of features for themembership for like three ninety nine a month
with hurricane trackers. I mean, this thing comes up on my phone even
on the free app, alerts andthings before the I even know about it,

(10:03):
before I even see the clouds, moderate rain coming in forty five minutes
lasting an hour, and it's usuallycorrect lightning in your proximity. So I
have a lightning detector on my weatherflow tempest, but also wherever I am,
it follows my you know, locationand tells me if there's a torny
to watch or warning or whatever basedon my GPS location on my phone.
So my radar is probably the bestradar app of all the ones I've used

(10:26):
over the years. You can useit free, totally free, and there's
other things you can do on it. You can scale down to wind velocities
or wind directions. You can gotemperature maps, you can go the way
I like. It is cool. It's got a layer, as they call
it. It's got a layer forpeople that go on there and they live
stream their current conditions. And Ithought about doing that live streaming all day

(10:50):
on these drives. I mean, think about this. I drive a lot
and you'd see some crazy stuff. But they live stream when they have a
tornado coming, and you can lookon the my Radar rate where you're at
on the app or anywhere really andclick on the little picture and it'll open
up their live stream. You cansee what this guy's doing. He's watching
this tornado go cross, or he'sdriving through serious rain, wherever they're at.

(11:13):
So My Radar is a pretty coolapp. I encourage you to download
that one. It's free and you'lllike it. So Other than that,
that's pretty much it. Nothing moreto babbel about. Just wanting to keep
a podcast a day, keep myfriends here that are listening entertained, or
at least something to listen to.Hey, you can listen to frigging Stairway

(11:33):
to have it again on your wayhome in your vehicle, or you can
listen to me babbel for ten minutesand I'm pretty sure to be a little
more interesting listening to something like me, because me at radio these days really
sucks. I don't listen to radio, you know. I put on YouTube
streams of the Bluetooth and I'm talkingon and listen to songs. But I
find myself finding the same songs poppingup on my YouTube lately and listening to

(11:56):
the same stuff. So hey,if this helps you, Oh you're right,
Oh gosh, hired mane. Ijust lept like eleven hours last night.
I'm not sure why I'm tired. This helps you. I'm glad to
keep listening, It's all I ask. And thank you to my sponsors,
Ham Radio Prep with their new HFMasterclass course. Help you as you get
your general and you want to getin HF and make the X context look

(12:18):
for that class. Use the codeEric twenty save twenty percent on that as
well. That's a video coming upas well, showing you parts of it.
So you can understand what I'm talkingabout. Hamrido Prep is the easiest
way to get a license, andthen that's the best sponsor I've ever had.
So thank you to ham Radio Prepand guys. Use the code to
Eric twenty on anything for their coursesand save twenty percent. Thank them for

(12:39):
sending you that code. All right, guys, take it easy. Here
comes on another squaw line. Iwill not talk to this. I'm not
sure how loud it wasn't the Bluetoothon the window. But take care everyone
be safe.
