(00:00):
Happy Tuesday everyone. Hello, thisis a spectacular day. Let me explain
the day that I'm looking out ofmy windshield here currently seventy six degrees on
the dashboard, and it's like picturea day in December eighth where there's a
cold front coming through and it's dark, gloomy skies, and off in a
(00:24):
distance you can see gray clouds formiles and you know, it's not that
hot. It's a little breezy, almost as if a cold front was moving
through, and it's gonna be aspectacular cold nights, right. Kind of
weird because we've been over a hundredsfor a long time in the summer,
and hey, I will take theseventy six, even the ninety, so
(00:48):
I know this is a mini coldfront desk coming through. There's no cold
weather associated with it, but itdefinitely makes it feel like fall man and
winter. It really does. SoI'm excited. Now before I get started,
shout out to Steve. I forgethis call sign to Steve, wrote
an email. He's part of theovernight club, the overnight ers, overnight
truck drivers. Stay safe, Steve, stay stay awake, stay well,
(01:11):
you know. Send an email handRadio Concepts at gmail dot com if you're
part of those overnight listeners, andhe says basically, you know, hey,
man, I just love listen. It keeps me awake and busy overnight
driving all these highways and byways.Pretty cool stuff, man, So thanks
for being a part of that,Steve. And hey, if I can
(01:32):
keep anybody entertained somewhere, whether itbe when your wife nagging at you or
you're just bored or at lunch onthe Bosses time, check out the podcast.
That's what we're here for. Soas I'm driving to Miami currently Port
St. Lucie, Florida, acouple of things to talking about this weekend.
I got to play with some somestuff and I'll touch on a couple
(01:53):
of easyse videos were coming soon.So who remembers Compactenna not members? I
mean they're still widely available right nowby videos on Compact Antenna. Doctor Jack
Compact Tenda, Compact n NA takingpatented designs with his quantum physics in his
(02:13):
head. This guy is super superlight years smart light years ahead of everybody,
and he's developed certain antennas for spacerestricted areas that happened to have really
good reviews of really good performance forpeople that are using it. For instance,
some people have talked about you know, I showed those the LMA or
the NUN. Let's say the dualband two meters four forty seven inch er.
(02:37):
Then he's got the SCAN three whichis nine inches to scan three would
do like VHF HF gmrs eight hundredmega hurts nine hundred mega. Dude.
These are these antennas there, they'relittle cylinders, patented designs with Tesla like
coils and his own design on makingan antenna that you think is five feet
(02:59):
on your trunk or in your inyour backyard, but it's actually nine inches.
And people say, well no,because that was always me. You
know, I want a six pointantenna. I don't want a nine ch
antennas. But then you got peoplein HLAs who can't put up antennas.
You got people that have parking garages. They're tired of folding over antenna,
moving parts breaks every time they foldthe antenna down and they bring it up
(03:21):
just to get a decent non fluttering, non picket fencing, good, none
of light, line of non lineof sight signal on a VHFVAH Jeff,
Well, yeah, doctor Jack.A compact Antenna has developed this and this
week he sent me a compact antennaground plane base station Kit four his antennas.
(03:46):
Now he sent me out to Antennawith it. So I have a
brand new antenna and a brand newground plane kit. I gotta tell you
it's a it's a quite a simpledesign, but it's it's not simple as
and you want to make. Hehas calibrated this in laboratory environments to work
with his antenna's board many other antennasthat will allow you to use that nine
(04:11):
inch antenna with the same performance. It's something that you would expect from quote
on the reviews online, a DiamondX eight hundred or a Diamond V two
thousand. Now wow, what astatement. But I've read some video,
some reviews online, and I startedplaying with it this weekend. So I
set it up and here's what Idid. I had my Icom seven oh
(04:32):
five and I wanted to see,Okay, I'm gonna try some repeaters that
are out of my area and seewhat it looks like. Well, we
got those results in video coming, but check this out. I was talking
to Ralph and to BMN Ralph onthe Saint Lucy County repeater, which is
about twenty eighteen twenty miles from me, probably eighteen miles of the crow flies
(04:54):
and it's up a little high. But check this out. I turned my
Icom seven oh five to zero percentoutput and I was still full scale or
full gliding into the repeater. Ralphwas like, I can't believe it.
You're what's zero percent of ten wattsmust be? You know, one percent
I would think is one hundred milliwatts, right, So zero percent you're running
(05:18):
out just a drive, right,And we had a full on conversation and
I was only up on my tripodabout twenty twenty two feet. I didn't
have it all the way up.And you know, then I tried the
Melbourne one. Of course six doteight five zero. I had to use
on that one about five percent tosix percent. So with a half a
(05:42):
watt until Melbourne from my house, which is what twenty thirty miles away,
not bad. And it's a verysmall form factor. So picture the forty
five degree angle ground playing radios thatcome down to the forty five degree and
they are attached to the metal baseplate which is small, which then you
(06:03):
put your compact tena NMO antenna ontop of it. Long story short,
if I put this on the ground, this thing doesn't even in the height,
doesn't even go up to my kneeand a footprint it would be what
a foot and a half across atthe end of you know, the spacing
(06:24):
of the radio at the end ofthe radials. Not that big man and
that kind of performance. Now,this is going to be my exclusive on
my tower, which I'll tell youabout that in a minute. My tower,
my official dual band base station groundplant antenna for VHF packet and for
you know, I mean, I'mgonna have the thirteen element cush craft up
(06:45):
there for horizontal because I want toput a big old vertical on there to
talk on a couple of repeaters. No, but this little thing, it's
small. It's gonna go right ontop of my yaggy's, my six meter
and two meter yaggies on top ofthe mast at the very tip of the
tower, and I'll be able todo some VHA packet. I'll be able
to do some win link. Guesswhat the elliptical pattern that comes off of
(07:06):
this. And guys, we cango way into his theory and I can
read some of the messages that we'vetalked about beyond my head kind of get
it, don't really even want tothink about getting it because it's just way
beyond my head. But this couldactually be used as a satellite antenna for
those who don't have a satellite tracker, for those who don't want to.
(07:29):
You can't hold your arm up.We're gonna test this theory. We're gonna
see if I can get a fortyforty five degree pass then I could work
on this antenna. What better tohave in a HLA and antenna that you
could just put right on the backsideof your fence where you know the the
HLA commando can't come out and belike, what is that? I am
(07:53):
radio antenna? But you can worksome satellites. Man, this this is
a hit. So we're gonna checkthat out. And some things that I
may not be able to check out, like a direct real world comparison that
the way his antenna works will actuallyto sum it up on a podcast form,
that picket fencing and fluttering is farreduced or make much reduced, far
(08:20):
less on his antenna versus something likea regular vehicle that I have that would
take me to get on the roadand do all this and try, you
know, do the same path atthe same exact time with two antennas the
same radio, and the switch tosomebody that's in the base and transmit a
couple of minutes and see what you'refluttering is the same thing with the other
antenna. I'm gonna. I'm gonna, if I get that opportunity to talk
(08:43):
to some of these people on simplexthat I have and get an idea,
put it on my vehicle. Andthe problem is, the original compac antenna
I have was on a magmaw,and now when I limited a truck,
I can't put it on a magmaw. I really don't feel like joining another
hole or putting another trunk lip orhoodmaw on this thing for another antenna for
those tests. We're gonna figure thatout. But in the meantime, I'll
(09:03):
show you some tests all day alongat the base. Okay, And so
thanks to doctor Jack for something thatBut there are options for you know,
space compromise antennas with performance. Sohis is one of the very few out
there that you could actually get anantenna this small size and maintain communications reliably
(09:28):
with his design. Patent of designand I've done a podcast at him.
We did a video with him.He goes on way into theory. Man,
he's very smart. So doctor Jack, thank you so much. So
look for that video soon. Anotherthing, let's talk about this real quick
now. I am uploading this podcastthis morning when this is done on mobile
(09:52):
Internet, and I want to tellyou something about a new potential sponsor that
I have sitting right next me inthis truck. Have you heard of nomad
Internet, nomad rural Internet. Thinkof the areas and we're gonna go big
into this video. I'm gonna goa lot of you know, the descriptions
(10:15):
and are of technologies and stuff onhow this works. But right now I'm
using a Verizon network in areas whereI don't have any cell service, and
it is a lot backpack they sentwith service on it. It's got a
mote a minute, which is ahot spot, takes cellular device or a
cellular network turns it into a hotspot for WiFi. Up to thirty devices
(10:35):
can connect and a battery backup withit the contargery devices, but also runs
this modum for over a week now. I started this test on Saturday and
it's about ten percent of power outof this battery bank per day, so
Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and we're still at just at seventy
(10:56):
percent. I think, so aman over a week that you could run
with the sing and listen. Thisis not just using a phone hotspot or
using stuff called sub six frequencies andsome other frequencies and the ways basically how
this worked because I just went tothe gas stasition to fill up, and
(11:18):
I've been running speed tests wherever Igo because there's areas out there where you
don't have good internet. There's ifyou know the options are living at DSL,
you might get one point five megabitInternet from DSL. You can't do
deadly ass shit on one point fivemegabit. Okay, there are people out
there who need it for medical devicesand and for you know, homeschooling,
(11:41):
for children that are disabled that needinternet. They can't even stream a curriculum
on their computer because all they haveis using net. Using net will charge
you out the yinyang for data, and when the clouds come over, forget
it. It's shuts down right satellite. But this rural internet for RV years
for people that are on the roadtruck drivers, people that need reliable internet,
(12:05):
unlimited data caps and up to twohundred megabits a second. Now the
plan I have that they gave me, I think is up to one hundred.
The speed tests I just captured atracetrack in Vero or Sebastian was about
seventy five megabits download, twenty twoupload and at ping of thirty milliseconds.
(12:26):
Now in perspective, what does thatmean. Well, I have fiber at
the house five or three hundred, three hundred down the pin is like four
milliseconds. Now everybody has fiber,we know that. But I had Comcast
before that because that was the onlyother option other than the slow AT and
t Uverse DSL, which was sixmegabits okay, until they started running fiber.
(12:48):
So I had Comcast. I waspaying for their one point two gig
service just because I need upload formy YouTube videos. In order to get
seventy five men of upload, Ihad to have the one point two gig
download that was one hundred and seventynine dollars a month, and I would
(13:09):
maybe get two hundred download and twentyupload, okay, and that's one hundred
and thirty seven dollars a month onCollacial broadband cable, and this little olive
draft colored backpack already blows that outof the water, based on the datacap,
based on portability, based on theupload speeds. You know, I
(13:33):
could THEA. I mean, wemem and Michelle streamed the the UFC Fight
h grosso versus Shrek Shrenkio, thetwo Chicks. We streamed that and the
UFC Flight Card main card that nighton ESPN Plus. I said, we
gotta try this. I gotta dothorough testing before I make a video at
all of this. So I firedit up and we streamed from like it
(13:56):
started. The main card started atten. I fell asleep in twelve thirty.
She watched the rest forgotten to switchit back to the whole internet.
She said, never Bufford was fullHD from when I was watching for the
first two hours. Guys that thereare some deals that I have to give
and if you're interested, let meknow, because they've got some good programs
(14:16):
where I could give you a codeand you can get the motive free ship
to you and you just pay forthe service, and if you can refer
five people on top of what yougot, you get free Internet for life.
I mean, they've had very verynegative reviews on YouTube, and I'm
gonna tell you why because and frankly, this is gonna be in the video.
(14:41):
I talked with the CEO directly. One CEO stepped down. Months ago.
There was you know, all theseYouTubers that are RV no matters and
they don't even know what paying orlatency means. They don't know how this
works, but they felt like theyhad to be the White House news correspondent
on how this company sucks. Butthey never ever said anything about speed tests
(15:01):
or range testing, or or portabilityor how this works or on battery tests.
Now, oh, I heard theCEO stepped down. I don't need
it. This is obviously shady. We're done. Oh, they weren't done
when they made an original video asthey were being sponsored for a product review,
which I am, but the sponsorshipmeans this. They sent it to
(15:22):
me, they put the service onthere. I'm not paying for it,
and they want an honest review. So I'm going beyond what everybody's done because
I want to do the most complete, honest review that I can do.
Nobody in these videos did that. They just started comparing to elon Mosk and
then Trump was in one of thevideos. What does that happen to do?
(15:43):
Was getting an internet provider? Where? You know? These people like
I get it. They use YouTubeto fund their nomad. They sold their
eight hundred thousand dollar house, They'vegiven up on everything in life, up
their little motor home, and they'regonna travel the world because they don't want
(16:03):
to work again. That's kind ofhow they make me feel in these videos.
I work. I'm working right now. But their videos made some nasty
remarks lots of videos. If you'veused nomad and you couldn't connect with the
internet and do what you had todo and I'm wrong, please send me
an email to hand Radio Concepts atgmail dot com. But what I'm doing
(16:26):
is I'm traveling to Miami today andI'm running speed tests every twenty minutes to
see what it does in different areaswhere I know where I travel, I
know where a cell phone service sucks, I know what I should have at
speeds. And if I can doall this all day, and have you
know my weeklong battery tests do allthis, I'm gonna have thorough proof on
(16:48):
the sub six frequency range. I'mgonna how my buddy was hot spot in
his phone. Come right there nextto me and do a speed test on
his phone, and we're gonna usethe nomad. We're gonna do everything,
so don't bother. Yeah, ifyou're interested, I want you to watch
the video first on all my conclusivetesting, and then I want to get
you any deal that I can foryou to pay less than what you want
(17:11):
to pay. So wait for thevideo. Then I'll make a podcast.
If you're not a video watcher, but if you're interested, send me an
email. And if you don't wantto watch my video but you're saying Eric,
you tell me when. If you'resatisfied, i'll buy it. I
need that. I'll let you knowand I'll give you a deal, hopefully.
I always tell them, hey, man, if you want to do
this, I want to give somestuff away. I want to make it
(17:32):
worthwhile for my viewers listeners to getsomething like that. I'm not going to
tell them to go out and spendall this money. The Motums five hundred
dollars in aself. But they're tellingme I can give you the Motum for
free if you sign up for service, So I'm open to do that.
And no data cops. Do youhave many times I've burned through data caps
on Comcast. The ATC fiber Ihave was a flash sail. One day,
they send this guy down the streetand whoever got it that day got
(17:55):
it. I got it. Youknow why because it was fifty five dollars
a month, guaranteed for life,no price increase, two hundred dollars gift
card, free installation, and nodata caps for the rest of my life.
That's why I jumped on the fiberand I'll never let that go.
That's not really the case that someother you know, areas and internet providers.
You go over a terabyte, they'regonna charge you every gigabyte you go
(18:15):
over. And I've been through thatwhere my Internet was like three hundred hours
a month because I was youtubing onmonth. That's stupid. So no,
mad Internet has no data caps.So we're gonna check this out too.
I'm excited about this why because we'vegot a couple of different things. I'm
going to use it for three thingsthat are really excited for this one hurricane
season. Hurricane season, I maylose power, the fiber hub may go
(18:40):
down, the CEO may go down, nine times out of ten, self
service providers have backup generators and batteries. It's okay, I should have internet,
but I know a lot of people. I d guys I worked for
at and Tea and directed me foryears. I've installed the internet and Fells
Mira and Vero Beach, downtown andBarefoot Bay and on the beach where they
(19:00):
always lost their internet during a storm. On the y. I mean,
the cable's been in the ground sincenineteen fifty. It's been aerials since nineteen
sixty. All this old cable. You get a tree branch boom, but
the cell seem to work. Sohurricane season number one. Number two field
day, so we go out thefield day. Whoever needs internet out there
(19:21):
or if I need an internet whereI'm going in the RV, I'll take
the field day to a different spotevery year. Have my internet. I
could upload videos and live stream rightthere from field day or hand Fest or
parks on the air. That's I'mthinking portable internet for my YouTube videos will
accompany me. So that's gonna begood. And number three, when we
(19:42):
when we when I travel and Ido the podcast here, you know,
I travel a lot and work doesn'tgive me a hot spot. They do
on the phone, but that sucks. There's att hot spot sucks sometimes,
you know, and especially if you'reon the hot spot on your phone,
it kills your battery. And thena phone call comes in. I answer
it, well, guess while Ijust dropped my connection on the VPN on
(20:03):
my computer. Now the log backyou when I hang up the phone and
he calls back. Just you know. Sometimes it keeps the connection. But
if I got to backpack sitting hereand forget it, I got internet wherever
I go, now I could.All I gotta do now is get a
camera in my truck to face onthis icon seventy one head in it,
and I'll just wow. I gettwenty four seven live streamers of driving,
(20:25):
make a DX contacts on Ham radio, and just do it right for my
internet. I think that's cool withthe nomad. There are other divide suppliers
out there and internet providers. I'mgonna choose the underdog. I'm gonna choose
the one that for some reason peoplehate. Why We're gonna find out because
so far, I think the speedsin my living room where I can't get
a cell service in my house,I'm getting sixty two megabits. I'm like
(20:48):
under my office desk crazy from thesame tower. So it's using a whole
different technology to get that accomplished. So I'm excited for that. Anyways.
Hey, lastly, hand Radio Prepis my biggest sponsor. They used the
code Eric twenty saved twenty percent.Any course you buy. That's the video
coming out the HF Masterclass. AndI completed the master class last week because
(21:14):
I wanted to go through the wholething so that way I knew what I
was, you know, advertiser. So the HF Masterclass, Hey, use
the code Eric twenty saved twenty percent. That's all I got to say.
More podcasts in the way. Thankyou, everybody. Have good days.
