(00:00):
All right, take number seven ifnobody calls my phone today, Happy Thursday
on the drive at five here we'lldriving from back from Miami. Currently in
Lake Worth, Florida. And I'vebeen sick the last seven eight nine days,

(00:20):
so kind of in a funk, like you know, you don't know
what day it is, and you'relike, oh my gosh, what did
that word? Did all those daysgo? Yeah, I slept in bed
for days out of work because ofjust the worst flow I've ever had,
and turned into bronchitas. That's whatI'm getting rid of now with some neds
antibiotics and some throat stuff. Andyeah, bronchitis is bad. I mean

(00:42):
it was. It started started lastTuesday, me and sweating profusely to fever
in the bed and the pool sweat. And the next day my lung started
hurting. Then I had my throatstarted hurting, it couldn't swallow. Then
my next you know, lumps inmy neck, and then then my jaw.
The next day started hurting. Myjaw hinges, and then my ears,

(01:04):
and then my temples and then mytop of my head, and then
it went back to my chest. And yes Monday, I could not breathe.
It felt like I had swallowed ahandful of razor blades or inhaled a
handful of razor blades, and throatwas bad. And then too there was
a doctor and that's I got. That's some antibiotics and some dextro methyl alcohol

(01:26):
live whatever that's called DM. Soyeah, uh, feeling kind of all
right, just feel sore. Butbreaking news. You heard it here first,
or maybe you didn't. It's acouple of days old. Mike Portnoy
is officially returning as the original drummerof Dream Theater after thirteen years. Yes,

(01:48):
Mike Manginie, Mike Portnoy left intwenty ten. Mike Manginie picked up
that dude is just an absolute octopuson drums. I mean, like does
things that you'd think when ned atearms and wow. So he never was

(02:09):
trying to replace it be better thanMike. Mike Portnoy and Mike mangini are
good friends or both from New Yorkand stuff, and they I guess Mike
Portnoy went out and sewing his oats, you know, after forty years in
Dream Theater, you know, uh, doing some other projects and winery dogs
and hanging out with Billy Sheen andthis and that blah blah, and well,

(02:31):
I guess trying to return home. And he the last concert they were
at the met in Philadelphia, MikePortnoy and his wife were in the audience
as a an audience member, andhe's like, this is kind of weird
watching this man, and I missit terribly, and I guess he's back.

(02:52):
So I once he left, Istarted getting angry at him and saying,
now, Mike man Genie's better anywaynow, I mean Mike Mangini.
Dude does a way different type ofdrumming. I mean, wow, just
on oh out of this world kindof drummer. And Mike Portnoyd, though,

(03:14):
is where it all begans. SoI like them both. Maybe they
could both be on an album togetherone to who knows, but anyways,
So yeah, that's that's your musicupdate. We don't need Karag Music or
whatever, Karrang magazine or whatever,or Circus magazine. You will get it
right here on the podcast hashtag ifyou know what those magazines are. So

(03:39):
uh today, driving man, Itell you what, Man, I've I've
said this a couple of times onthese podcasts. This HF activity net HFQSO
dot com. Dude, that iswhat I look forward to, leaving the
house and being driving from one pointthirty to about four thirty. It starts
at seventeen meters, then they takeand then they go to fifteen meters,

(04:00):
and they go to twelve meters andgo ten meters. Today seventeen meters was
on fire. Fifteen I was.I was busy through most of it,
so I didn't get much on fifteenbecause I had to do some work stuff.
Twelve meters was absolutely redoonculous. Imean I was mobile in Miami at
the time, and you know, you basically get on this net, you

(04:21):
know, you throw your call out, you know when they start taking check
ins, and then they just gothrough the list. All right, mobiles,
qrps and portables get priority. Allright, Mobile Eric kJ four,
why is the Eye of Florida?Go? And I'm just like, you
know, I usually tell them, you know, I'm the official mobile Florida
resident mobile here. I mean,I'm always in a different city every day

(04:43):
I'm on. But you call signyou know kJ four y Z I this
is kJ forour y is the Eyemobile in Florida? Who hears me?
And then everybody gives you a signalreport. It just kind of you know,
throw it out there, no callsigns back or they just it's like
getting free signal reports. And youknow there's also an online chat one at

(05:04):
the same time. Man, twelvemeters, I love twelve meters. I
got on twelve meters A lot dosome DX, but I must have had
forty fifty people come back to meon this now on twelve meters. It
was intense. A lot of themwere five sevens, five eights, five
nines, one plus ten, Imean, big signals, and they're all
saying the same thing. Man,that mobile works. Man, you're on

(05:26):
every day and you're solid. Yeah. I got my icon seventy one hundred
and my little TARILHP, that littleTarho I got from MFJ for a video
about four or five years ago.Four years ago. And I got the
MFJ screwdriver controller I made a videoon eight years ago, and it's I
mean, I've been beating the hellout of it and it works. It's

(05:46):
never stopped, it's never malfunctioned.I've hit it with everything I could.
I usually only do seventeen fifteen, twelve, ten and six with it.
It does do twenty and it doesdo four. I don't get out forty
mobile at all. It's just toonoisy. I don't have a lot of
luck with it, and twenty Ido, but it's so crowded. On

(06:06):
twenty. I like the Wark bandsseventeen and twelve. I do like ten.
Tens been really good lately. Alot of people have been on ten
meters and they've been enjoying it.You know, ten meters are gonna start
winding down for the summer summers, you know. I mean, yeah,
we're going up in a solar cycle. But remember this is you're coming off
the peak of ten now for thenext you know, let's see November December.

(06:30):
Yeah, if it's if it's busyin November December, then it's still
gonna be busy. I mean,it's just saying that's Propagation's great. But
every day ten's been open and twelve'sbeen open, of course, I'll say
it now. I've made a coupleof YouTube shorts. I've been on eleven
meters every day as well. Workin Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Austria,
New Zealand again, Mexico, Canada, Bermuda, South America some other

(06:57):
country I don't remember where on elevenmeters and that's on. Lately, it's
been on channel thirty six and thirtyseven. Usually I'm on twenty seven,
three eighty five. But there's somefun dickhead out there that it's turning into
channel nineteen again. Here we gowhere you got one? That's all you

(07:17):
hear on this friggin stupid recording boxand then they're fighting over it. You
go one click down to thirty sevenand you got a bunch of people in
the UK and Scotland and Norway andstuff and just really good operators. And
uh, I've been talking with themas well in between. So yeah,
hf's great man, and listen ifI can do this on Oh, I

(07:44):
mean okay, so the icon ofseventy one puts out a hundred wats you
know. Uh backs on the sideagain, so uh, hunter watch radio
and an antenna. Okay, that'sgot twenty two inches of radiators sticking out
of the top of it. Idon't have no nine foot antenna. I

(08:07):
don't have no eighteen foot portable likeI do in the backyard. If I
put in my backpack, you know, I'm m pass chamelion or whatever.
I'm not using a tower. I'mnot using five thousand wats around five hundred
watch using a stock radio and astock mic and a little TARGEEO HP.
And I love this antenna because I'drun it up and down for different bands,

(08:28):
excuse me, and I get itresonant where I want it. It's
full power out, no reflective power, So I'm not using a hamstick with
a tuner. If I go toseventeen meters, I'd run the antenna up
until you know, I'm at onepoint zero to one SWR and that's where
I go. Then when we'll goto you know, twelve meters, I

(08:50):
go down, so it's always resonant. Yeah, I got the hick us
now, so maybe down have somethingto do with it. Hello. I
only use resident antennas like those thoseeleven meter handsticks. I have shark antennas.
I've had those on a diesel acouple of years now, and those

(09:11):
things on eleven meters are great.Now. If I park in front of
that, I use the radiot ofthe QT forty that puts out about forty
five watts and uh with the twoantennas. Paul a phase together and basically
on the river. If I chooseto do that, I can do it

(09:31):
anywhere into parking lot whereverbod. Ichoose to go to the river and park
my truck facing north of the riverwith thousands of mile water in front of
me. I call that God's counterpoysor God's amplifier. The man, you
just worked a world on eleven meterswith a radio a couple of antennas,
so really really satisfied with HF lately, and seventeen meters has turned into my

(09:56):
favorite man. Ten meters used tobe my favorite mand still I don't know
you got six meters is my favorite, but then tens. I've made more
contact contacts on ten in my lifethan I have any other band. But
seventeen man, that is now mynew favorite band. Every every day I
get listen, I've caught this neton seventeen for the last five six months.

(10:22):
It starts at one thirty UTC andsor No. No. One thirty
Eastern was a fourteen thirty UTC anduh, I hear the same people on
there every day, and you knowthey're not using eighty thousand watts. Some
of these guys using one hundred wats, a lot of mobiles out there,
a lot of QRP stations. Wehear great stuff hfqso dot com to look

(10:46):
into it. You'll hear me onthere every day I'm driving. And if
you if you want to get somesignal reports, h and you know,
see what's happening towards Florida whatever, and for me or for wherever else across
the United States. Or you gotCowboy in New Zealand. And then you
got the other guy that's in theUK. Yesterday Italy was coming in Italy's

(11:11):
Italy Zulu four. I forget,but h he's in there a couple of
times a week now. And man, he was solid five seven five five
five seven to me and my mobile. And he gave me a five to
three on that net as well.So pretty cool stuff. Man. I
don't know what's cool being being ona net every day. And I used

(11:31):
to hate HF nets, I meansome HIF nets. Well let me okay,
let me rephrase that. I've neverused HF nets. I've checked in
the sun in the past. Justgets boring, boring sitting there, uh,
you know, waiting for your turn. Oh well, we went to
the doctor today and we got hyou know, my medicine and you know

(11:54):
Georgettes hanging from the ceiling fan today, and you know, I just gets
boring. Uh VHF nets are I'lldo those because on the repeaters and stuff,
because these are kind of quick HFnets. You can sink yourself an
hour and a half, two hoursinto these things. But this is not
really a net. It's a it'san activity group. It's a it's a
signal report, you know it.They' it's it's uh and and you'll hear

(12:18):
some people in there. You know, they're really good people, really nice
people with fun, not drag. They're upbeat. Man, it's pretty cool
and it's real fast. So that'sthat's basically uh what you know again as
I said this before. Uh soother than that, what else one else?

(12:39):
Yeah, just getting stick roid andhelp on any videos or anything.
But uh, check out online lookup. Mike Portnoy returns to Dream Theater
read all about it and uh,if you're a Dream Theater fan, I
must hear a ham Radio concepts atgmail dot com. Drop me a line.
Who's a Dream Theater fan? Whowho likes Mike Me and Jeanie more

(13:01):
than Mike Pornoy who hates dream Theaterand why I'd love to hear it,
and yeah, so look for that. I always love the emails, guys,
and lord knows, I go backtick through the names of the people
that are always out there when theydon't hear from me of course of being
sick and stuff. Boy, theemails came in, Eric, where are

(13:22):

grumpy, you know, I hearthem. But this is just really,
I mean, I'm not sure thispodcast is going anywhere. I know there's
forty thousands up downloads, but it'sjust another little ten minute segment to fill
in, just to talk, man, just to make it interesting and just
