(00:01):
Hello everyone. Happy Tuesday nine totwenty three this morning, and hope everybody's
having a great day. Man.You know, the it's been some cold
weather everywhere. The whole country islike frozen, way below negative whatever numbers.
I mean, I'm a Floridian.I've never seen snow in my life.

(00:22):
So when it gets to like thirtyeight year in Florida, that's cold
for me to I don't move outside. So you people that have like negative
thirty five wind chills up there inNorth Dakota, when you want to see
cold, you come down here toFlorida. I'll show you what cold really
is. Anyways, it's been cloudyhere for like the last two weeks.

(00:45):
You know, we have a coldprocome through get blue for a day or
if you real cold, you knowblue skies, not a cloud in the
sky, then it would be youknow, dreary and just you know,
sprinkles all the time. Like thishas been going for two weeks. So
my yard is like saturated because ithasn't dried out all the flooding rains.
We had companies to go. Youknow, there's there's different bugs I've never

(01:06):
seen before. They're coming out ofthe yard everything's just dreary and wet.
My roof I had a roof puton a couple of weeks ago, but
actually a week ago, and ittook them three days ago done because of
the rain. But anyways, that'sthe current conditions here in Florida currently Fort
Pierce, Florida heading to Miami. We got Orlando ham Casion coming up in
about two weeks February ninth through theeleventh. Last year, I took my

(01:29):
RV there and I'm not gonna doit this year. I just don't have
the money for it, and youknow, it was cool. We'll probably
do that next year, or maybeI'll be a hunt so in August with
the RV or something. But Hammerdyof Prep is actually coming there and I've
been encouraging them to have to gothere. I'm not sure if they're gonna
have a booth that they If theydo, I'll post it somewhere. I

(01:52):
want to hang out with them fora while and get more people into ham
Radio. But Orlando, I havevcation. I think if you haven't heard a
podcast before, I think that isthe best Hamfest. People say, Oh,
Dayton, Dayton, Dayton. Youknow I've been to Dayton three four,
five times, not really my Idon't know. Maybe the first one

(02:12):
I the first couple of times Iwent, it was the Hera Arena O'Hara
or hara and that place was apit. Then they went to the fair
Grounds. But I don't know. It's just it's not like Orlando. Man
Like when you come down here, there is it's always blue skies. There's
just tons of people. It's alwaysnice, cool but not cold. You

(02:37):
know, all the vendors are there, all the dealers, there are a
lot of people. I think it'sthe second largest in the US. And
you know, I always go toOrlando. I will always go to Orlando.
That place is just a badass. So I will be walking around on
Saturday with my wife and I'll probablybe in there hanging out. Hambridy a
prep for a little bit, maybehave some giveaways or something. I'm not

(02:58):
sure yet what they're doing, butdefinitely want to hang out with them.
See my buddies and gigaparts. Ihaven't seen them in quite a while.
I haven't talked to him quite awhile. And you know, just not
even really make too many videos.Just be a ham That's that's for me.
I just want to be a hamRadio operator and enjoy Hamfest, not
walk around and think I have tobe the celebrity on a camera. That's
not what I want to do.So that is February ninth through the eleventh.

(03:22):
Get there early, get your ticketsonline if you want, and if
you see me, say hi,you know that'd be cool. I love
seeing you guys. Trust me.I'm not just saying that. I mean
every year I go, I mustbe usually when I do the Friday Saturday
Sunday thing like I did last yearat the RB, I must have talked
to thirty thirty one hundred people atleast. I mean I couldn't go anywhere

(03:43):
and people were just say, heyman, what's going on? You know?
And then then you have your littlepeople that want to follow you around
that day. So we were justhanging out, got some stuff to eat,
drink, a couple of beers, hung out just like hams. You
know what I mean. You meetsome really cool people in a Hamfest.
If you haven't went, my Gosh, you gotta go and my fair replace
at Orlando Ham Casion or any HamFast. But Orlando is the junk section,

(04:04):
the outdoor swap me and that indoorbuilding in the back. I love
the junk section. I've bought inseveral you know tube radios that I don't
meet that I still haven't really gotto have time to. You know,
when I get my ham shack inthe back done, I could set up
a little bench in there and havesome stuff going on, and you know,
learn how to tweak and tune ina line and test tubes and all

(04:25):
the kinds of stuff on these oldradios. But right now they're sitting in
the garage. And even some oldCebe radio stuff that I always pick up
there, cheap stuff. So lovethe Orlando hamm Cas. Also this weekend
we have coming up January. Let'ssee what's today twenty third play four five
say twenty seven twenty eighth of Januaryis winter field Day. So winterfield Day

(04:47):
is not as big, I don'tthink as summerfield Day. You know,
field day is an opportunity to geteverybody out in the field and operate in
conditions they wouldn't usually do, andyou know, practicing hone in under skills
for the radio art and everything else, you know what I mean. So

(05:10):
normally our W four ot Vero Beachclub, they I mean usually have forty
fifty people show up. But thenusually after lunchtime. You know, on
Saturday it starts to to Saturday, from two to Saturday to two to Sunday,
which is whatever UTC. I can'tthink of that while I'm driving blue
bluetooth hands free here looking at thewindshield. But so two pm Eastern time

(05:30):
usually in Vero Beach it starts untiltwo Sunday. Well, on winter field
Day, usually Saturday, you haveto set up each lunch and by two
o'clock when it starts, everybody flakedout. They're gone. I mean Summer
field Day is different. Everybody hangsout at day of the night. I
brought my RV there a couple oftimes. Winter field Day is a little
bit slower. Now, if yourwin, if your Winter field Day is

(05:53):
different, if you guys really reallyhammer it down on Winter field Day but
summer is because it's too hot,you really don't you know your opposite,
then let me know, because Ithink summerfield Day is always more popular and
always more fun. The winterfield Dayhas its place, so not a contest
again, just you know, clubsusually use and people usually use the time

(06:16):
when everybody's on the radio to makecontacts and to score points and to points
or incentives to how many contacts youhad, and you know, if you
get awards or whatever. I don'tgo that way. I don't really do
anything like that. What I'm gonnado this winter field Day, I might
not go out to see the guysin Vero. Maybe I'll run out there
and make a video because I alwayslove seeing what they put up. They

(06:38):
had weird, always had weird stuff. Last year summerfield Day they had the
Scott's Street Service bucket truck at fiftyfeet with a homemade two element cubicle quad
up top made out of bamboo andsome other stuff, and man, they
were not gonna dead this winterfield Day. I'm probably gonna go Saturday myself.

(07:00):
I come seven of five on theWilbasso River or in Wilbasso on the river
and just deployed portable at ten watts. I might even maybe bring an ample
fire with me. I have acouple of small amplifiers. H might get
eighty five ninety watts out. Ithink Jan had said this year they changed
the field day rules that you haveto actually work both days. For people

(07:25):
like that or like us, whowould go out Saturday and nobody do anything
Sunday. So what they're doing isthey're going to or think they have to
do they have to be a partof it Sunday, I think Saturday and
Sunday something like that. So whatthey're gonna do is they're gonna go out
Sunday this year and set up intoeverything that'd be set up. They'll have
the morning time to do that, and then lunch whatever, the two o'clock

(07:46):
they'll tear it down. So they'regonna do it opposite this year. I
if I go out there, I'llprobably just you know, make some video.
But I'm going to do my ownthing lately. You know, I've
talked about this before. I've madesome videos on YouTube on my channel.
Every single day I am on theHF Activity group on seventeen meters, fifteen
meters, twelve meters and ten meters. Yesterday I worked all four bands mobile

(08:09):
with my little targehell HP and myIcom seventy one hundred at eighty wants because
if I go to one hundred,it shuts off because I have a bad
power connection somewhere, and I meanforty to fifty contacts come back to me
when I ask for a single importantHFQSO dot com really really cool group,
and I mean every single day atfifteen thirty EUTC, no thirteen thirty EUTC,

(08:30):
which I think comes out to twelvethirty now with the time that it's
gonna be one thirty in the summer, you know, but you can look
at the times and basically they startedseventeen meters, fifteen meters, twelve meters
and ten meters. They take checkin. You can spot yourself on the
website, put in your designator youknow, mobile, QRP, portable,
full station, short time whatever, and your call and what band you want

(08:52):
to checking on, and they'll gothrough the list to call you. Basically,
it's informal and just a really greatgroup of people. And the last
couple weekends I fell in love withan antenna I've had for a long time,
that is the Chameleon Tactical Delta Loop. And I've had this antenna for
years and it has worked good. But what I did was I set the
didepole of the adult excuse me deltaloop up and then I put it on

(09:15):
top of the Chameleion m pass mast. So that's what ten, twelve,
fifteen feet something like that off theground, so that the top of the
antenna is probably twenty feet off theground. And man, what a night
and day difference. When I putthat thing above the roofline at ten wants
even five wants, people are givingme five eighths, five nines. And

(09:37):
then so I put that on YouTube, and of course I get all these
ridiculous idiots that want to tell meI'm lying. The icon seven to five
is a piece of shit. Yougotta have an eight ten watch. You'll
never make a contact ever, there'sno such thing as QRP anymore. It
ain't gonna happen. You're losing allyour stuff in the feed line. You
must have an antenna tucked away. What's the There must be a massive amount

(09:58):
of gain on the antenna. Everybody'sgot their pre amps on. I mean
I've had I've been accused of everythingbut ten watts and it's fun. So
what am I to do on winterfield day is take that same setup out
right staked right in the edge ofthe water, so I'll be in the
salt water with the with the youknow mast, and then fifteen to twenty

(10:20):
feet off the ground at ten wattsat the pavilion, and I bet you
on the river with God's amplifier rightin front of me, the huge natural
ground plane. I bet y'all makingcountless, countless contacts at ten watts.
Now, if you don't have water, that's fine. That's what I do
on mobile is I drive with alittle thirty two inch antenna on my truck
and make hf contacts all day long. So it's not just the water,

(10:41):
but at ten that's one hundred watsor eighty wats at ten watts definitely doable
with the tactical delta loop. Thatthing you know works on multiple bands without
a tuner I do. I donot use tuners. Seven O five does
not have a tuner in it.So seventeen, fifteen, twelve and ten
out below a one point five toone SWR. We don't go on twenty
or forty these days, uh,I go seventeen to six and then two

(11:03):
meters of four forty fifteen meters hasbeen off the chain lately. Seventeen meters
has been absolutely on fire. Andeven twelve and ten, I mean yesterday
on twelve I must have made nineteencontacts in that HF activity group where I
just ask, you know, youjust put your call sign out. This
is kJ four y z I KiloJuliet forty Yankees InLu India, mobile in

(11:24):
Florida, who can hear me?And you'll just get everybody come blasting back.
Hold onto your hat and you'll getyou know, it's it's uh,
it's it's it's really cool. SoI think with that tactical del delta loop,
I'm stuttering now all of a sudden, that tactical delta loop is gonna
be really good on winterfield Day,I think. And we're gonna find out,
and I'll mix some video and maybeI'll try some digital modes on there,

(11:46):
some PSK and rady and stuff.Uh So, my as my tower
sits there on the side of thehouse with one ten pounds of concrete and
rebar that por you know, pouredmyself, and then I've got twenty feet
up, I got twenty more feetto go. Can't find someone to pull
the rope down below, so Ican use the gym poll get the third
fourth section up. But really,I don't even know what I would put

(12:09):
on top of that tower at thispoint. I mean if I set up
that drake L four b h amplifierwith that Ken would that I've had or
maybe another Icon seventy three hundred ifI buy one, Like what would I
actually do with it? You knowwhat I mean? Like what antenna?
I'm not sure because fifteen hundred onceis gonna be quite the power? Am

(12:31):
I ever? Am I interested inusing that? No? Because the fact
is that amplifier has been that shedsince they got it from my LM root
passed away over two and a halfyears ago, and I haven't even turned
it on and plugged it in.So I just prefer setting up QRP portable
with a backpack. Everything fits inmy backpack. I got it from a
Chameleon I think, and the biggest, the big backpack and everything, all

(12:54):
the radio, laptop, everything fitsin there and deploy wherever I want.
That's where I'm at for the longesttime. I don't know when I'll switch
from that, go back to beinga home operator. But either what winterfield
Day, maybe I can make acontact with you on that weekend, and
you know, people can wait whenthey're calling because this is my time driving,
not theirs. So that's it.Maybe i'll see Orlando, maybe I'll

(13:18):
hear you on a winter field day, and maybe you want to get your
license, or you have somebody thatyou know that needs a license. And
I'll tell you the last couple ofvideos I did. I gave away ten
technician class written manuals for Hamerdale Prep. I just asked ten people to first
ten to comment get one. Imailed those off and got them. They
use it for Christmas presents, forstock and stuffers, or they use it

(13:39):
for themselves. And then I madeanother video for general book, so I
got eight of the general licensed manuals. People prefer written over computer. So
if you prefer written over computer, you can buy the Tech or General or
Extra manual in paperback from Hamrado Prep. Or you can go to hamradeo Prep
dot com and use the code Erictwenty at checkout twenty percent on any course

(14:01):
you buy, get your damn handlicense, or get somebody that you know
interested to buy it for them. With the code, they'll come out to
twenty something dollars and boom, youcan get them on the interactive course with
brain games and adding stuff all thetime. Then we'll talk about soon.
I'm really overdoing it. The WorldRadio League, which is what Ham Radio
Prep has developed. When you getyour license, Now, what what do

(14:24):
I do? Now, Well, you've heard of the able RL. Well
there's the World Radio League and theygot all kinds of cool stuff on videos,
even about making your first HF contactand and different digital modes and all
kinds of stuff, you know,Antenne theory and stuff, a lot of
good stuff and logging software and more. So check out Ham Radio Prep.
Use the code Eric twenty save twentypercent and course you buy. Thank them

(14:46):
for being the greatest sponsor I've everhad, and thank you for continuing to
listen. I know the numbers havedropped a little bit because I really have
only made two podcasts in January,so instead of getting you know, eight
hundred nine hundred views or listens ona podcast, I'm getting like two hundred.
So it's going down. People arelosing interest, and I sorry,
you know, sorry about that.If you have anything you want to tell

(15:11):
me Ham Radio Concepts at gmail dotcom, send me an email. I
got the same ones that are emailingand guys, you know you are a
reply to yours. But I knowthere's a lot of people that want to
email and tell me I sucked oror cool or wild. Thanks for the
heads up for winterfield Day or whatever. So if you want to do that,
hey, send me an email andgive me an idea of something to
talk about. See what happens.Thanks. Everyone, have a good day.

(15:33):
I'll talk to you or see yousoon. Seventy three
