(00:49):
I want to welcome you to HealingBegins. My name is Pastor Gale and
this is Michelle Hutchinson with the MindsetExchange podcast. And man, we're excited
to be coming to you. Thisis part two of the Healing of PTSD.
And I think once again I reallywant to open open this time with
prayer and with some scriptural background thatI want to give for this. So
(01:14):
Michelle, you want to open usin prayer. Sure, Father, we
thank you for even greater wisdom andunderstanding in the discovery of trauma PTSD how
it impacts us. And I speakover every listener today that there would be
an opening in their hearts and theirminds to receive healing as they hear,
(01:36):
and that there would be an impartationof hope today as we speak about the
healing of PTSD. Lord, helpus to flow in the Holy Spirit.
Help us to know the mind ofthe Spirit, that we might be able
to address only the things today thatare on your heart, Father God,
(01:56):
for each person. Lord, there'sno situation that's impossible, because with You,
all things are possible, and wecan do all things through Christ that
gives us strength. So Amen,So here we go, So I want
to talk about this. Doctor Carlson'snot here, so I asked him what
he would do in treating and bringinghealing to PTSD, and I mentioned this
(02:21):
in the last podcast where he saidwhat he would do is perscribe medications to
handle some of the symptoms. Hewould refer them to counseling, he would
refer them to different modalities, andhe would even refer them to spiritual care
consultants because he's the co founder ofSpiritual Care Consultants, So that's what he
(02:42):
would do. From a doctor's pointof view, he might even refer them
to a psychiatrist because many doctors todaydon't like to manage the medicines that psychiatrists
have to prescribe. So Michelle, from a psychological interview, what might you
guys do to help? But ifyou know Michelle real well, she's highly
(03:07):
on fire for Jesus, she's filledwith the Holy spiritual, so she's thinking
more than just psychological. As alicensed social worker, what would you do
as it relates to helping someone healfrom PTSD? Because that's pretty that's a
big deal. It's a big undertaking, but it's absolutely possible. I like
(03:30):
doctor Carlson's perspective from his position asthe treating medical physician, you know he's
going to send them to a counseloror a therapist, also possibly look at
medication, but that therapist, thatinner healing process is where you and I
come in, right And as atreating therapist, I think it's so important
(03:52):
to meet people with unconditional love andsupport to help them understand that they experiences
have really changed and impacted them. And so there's a lot of peace that
comes with psycho education, understanding thesymptoms and the impact of trauma PTSD on
(04:13):
the brain. And from there thenwe look at how do we heal up
those root heart wounds, meaning whatcame in when we had these experiences.
Was it shame? Was it abelief system that carried me to think,
oh my goodness, I'm going tofeel like this forever, or there's something
(04:33):
wrong with me that will forever staywith me. Is it embarrassment? Is
it fear that came And so webegin to think about what are those root
beliefs that took hold when an experiencehappened that now have changed my identity and
the way that I see myself. And then there's that additional piece. We've
(04:58):
talked about this in previous episodes ofyou know, some emotional freedom healing and
some MDRY movement desensitization to get thattrauma out of physiologically, out of the
brain and out of the muscle system. So we're talking about healing body,
soul and spirit here. So twothings. I got a scriptural foundation I
(05:23):
want to read. But before Iget to that, I'm going to ask
you a question, Michelle, whycan people go through never ending counseling and
only reach a certain level of healing. Such a good question and a deep
question, Pastor Gil. So,you know, because I think we have
(05:46):
to think and understand ourselves as spiritualbeings. Right, we are spiritual beings
having this human experience, and wehave a soul, we have a will
of mind and emotion. And sowhen we come to traditional counseling and we
just talk about our experiences, itdoesn't allow opportunity for depth of healing in
(06:13):
the soul. How our will andour mind and our emotions have been impacted.
It doesn't allow opportunity to heal upand clean up and close up some
doors in the spirit realm. Becausewhat we know now and it is okay
to talk about healing from a spiritualperspective because we're understanding that when we include
(06:36):
spirituality in healing. The Michigan MedicaidManual mandates it now that we ask our
clients about, you know, theirspirituality. We know all the research tells
us that there's so much more healingthat comes when we talk about spirituality.
We understand that when we open doorsin the spirit realm, and that really
(06:57):
means there's a spirit realm both goodand bad. And when oftentimes when we
have trauma, it opens up vulnerabilityin the spirit realm for our lives to
be impacted by things that aren't sogood in the spirit realm. We have
to learn what those what is impactingus. We have to understand how to
(07:20):
close those doors. That's a metaphor, right, but using the scriptures,
how to say no more to negativethings in the spirit realm, and how
to open ourselves up to healing inthe spirit realm, into blessing in the
spirit realm, and into breaking generationalpatterns in the spirit realm. So here
(07:44):
I am talking about healing in thesoul realm. I've just talked about healing
in the spiritual realm, and thenof course in our physical body, because
often when we experience trauma or PTSD, it impacts our physical bodies. For
example, in our soul realm, when we experience grief, we know there's
a direct correlation to the impact thatgrief has on the lungs, and then
(08:09):
we start to see an increase inmedical issues surrounding lungs and breathing issues.
There's so much research out there.I'm only touching the tip of the iceberg.
Well, I want to lay alittle foundation in the Word of God.
But doctor Carlson would say that spiritualcare is the missing piece of healthcare
(08:31):
and what we mean by spiritual care. So Spiritual Care Consultants of a West
Michigan is an on fire Christian organizationthat believes the Word of God is the
Bible. It's inspired, inerrant, infallible. We are made up of people
from all different denominations, but JesusChrist is the leader of this organization and
(08:52):
he's the one we look to.So we're really when we're talking about things
in the spirit realm, we're talkingfrom a biblical perspective on one to make
sure everybody knows that. So I'mgoing to give you my theory about why
you can have constant counseling and evenChristian counseling and only reach a certain level
(09:13):
of healing and never get to thatfull recovery. Genesis two, verse seven
says, and the Lord God formedman from the dust of the ground.
He breathed into his nostrils the breathof life, and man became a living
soul. It did not say manbecame a living mind. It said he
(09:37):
became a living soul. And weknow from the scripture that the soul is
the seat of the intellect, willand emotions. So most mental disorders,
most psychological disorders, do not havetheir roots in the mind. The roots
(09:58):
are in the a soul. Soif you treat the body and treat the
mind, which is a must,if you don't treat the soul, you
have an impartial treatment. And that'swhat we do at Spiritual Care. And
what I'm thinking about this is thata lot of churches don't even tackle this
today. They farm out their counseling, they send their people to other places.
(10:22):
So it says Inn first Sussalonians fivetwenty three, May God himself,
the God of Peace, sanctify youthrough and through, May your whole spirit,
soul and body be kept blameless forthe coming of our Lord. And
so the order is spirit, souland body. It doesn't say spirit,
(10:45):
mind and body. It says spirit, soul and body. So you have
to understand all. I know. What I wanted to say was this.
Here's the other thing that happens aroundPTSD or even around trauma. People form
belief systems based on how they feel. And many of those belief systems,
(11:07):
because they're based on how they feel, they're based on lies. How they
become a false identity. Well, and then if they keep up those belief
systems, which the total purpose ofthose belief systems is to keep them from
pain and hurt, if they keepthat up, it turns into a stronghold.
(11:28):
So not only do you have toget healing for the PTSD in the
trauma, you also got to rewritethe false belief systems and where you were
talking about get the mind renewed. But let's go a little bit further in
this sole issue. Psalm one thirtynine Versus thirteenth through eighteen. For you
(11:50):
created my inmost being, You nipme together in my mother's room. I
want you to think about that yourgender, your identity, was set before
you were even born. God himselfknit you together in your mother's womb.
I praise you because I am fearfullyand wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful.
I know that full well. Myframe was not hidden from you when
(12:13):
I was woven together in the depthsof the earth, in that secret place,
your eyes saw my unformed body,as all their days ordained for me,
who were written in your book beforethem, one of them came to
be. How precious are your thoughts, Oh God, How vast is some
of them? Where I had accountthem, they would outnumber the grains of
(12:35):
the sand. When I am awake, I am with you. And so
when I read this scripture, youknit me together in my mother's womb.
What pthsd to me? From myperspective, what PTHSD and trauma does?
It begins to unknit the knitting. It begins to try to damage what the
(12:56):
Lord did when you were born.Maybe something happened when you were in the
womb and you need healing from that. Well, good news, well I
got good and bad news. Thebad news is there's no way I have
the capability to heal you. Butif you come through our process, or
(13:18):
you come to Michelle and talk toher, we will take you through a
process where you come in the presenceof the Lord, were the one who
created you can restore you. Youmight so I don't even know if I
believe in them, you will onceyou go through the healing. And so
the other thing I thought it wasJohn ten ten the thief cometh to kill,
(13:39):
steal and destroy. I come thatyou might have life, and have
it more abundantly that Zoe life, spirit, soul, embody, It's healing,
salvation and health, and so Godcan take so when we go into
the inner healing process. So usthis is interesting. I have seen this
(14:01):
time and time again. You don'trelive the event was spiritual care. We
talk about forgiveness, We talk aboutlaying feelings out the cross and how to
let go all the pain. Butat the end of the process, we
invite Jesus to come and remove thepain out of their memory, whether it's
(14:24):
vibrations, body memories, flashbacks. So you were created a living soul.
Wow, isn't that amazing to thinkabout? It is? And you know
there are so many things you justsaid right there, that like nuggets of
(14:46):
gold, nuggets of truth that youjust spoke that I want to go back
to. The biggest was the conceptof identity. When we truly know and
understand that we were created with anidentity with a purpose before we were even
in our mother's womb, then weknow and believe that healing is possible in
(15:07):
the fullest capacity. So that givesus an end goal, right, it
is to keep our eyes on God, What is your identity for me?
What did you call me into? What is your purpose for me? Because
you know the plans and the purposefor my life? And this keeps us
(15:31):
focused on the end goal, whichis I can receive healing. Lord,
What is your identity? What isyour calling over my life? And that
begins to weave back together. Rightas you said, there's been an unraveling
that happens when we experience trauma. Then we start to understand how to filter
(15:56):
out how we have been impacted bytrauma, and then we weave back together
the pieces of our wholeness, thepieces of our soul that's only revealed to
us in the presence of God inthose times of deep inner healing. God
does the work. We just bringthe enlightenment and the understanding. So when
(16:18):
we repent, when we receive andgive forgiveness, then all of a sudden,
it clears this layer of fog inour hearts and our minds, and
then we can start to see thetrue calling of who we are to love
others and when we love others, and when we give to others unconditionally,
(16:42):
and that really truly only comes bybeing in the presence of God and being
empowered by God to love unconditionally evenwhen we've been hurt. This begins to
sew back into us passion and identityfor who we are and who He's called
us to be, and that thenbegins to rework our physical bodies are physiological
(17:07):
brain structure. It closes doors inthe spirit realm that have an impacted over
our generalized wellness and functioning and ourrelationship with God. Now I want to
talk about one more thing, becauseyour doctor, while you're going through healing,
we often said that medication is abridge to a better place. So
(17:29):
your doctor might have you temporarily ona medication, but let me talk to
you a bit about how trauma changesthe chemical nature of our body, because
I think this is really important tounderstand. So I talk about trauma stacking
here at Spiritual Care. I thinkI'm the only one that talks about that.
So, if you've had one traumaafter another, trauma after another,
(17:51):
trauma after another trauma in your lifeand you haven't received the inner healing,
you haven't had that pain taken careof, Eventually, it's gonna chemical reactions
and changes in your brain, whicheventually can cause physical sicknesses and illnesses like
epstein bar or fiber algie, irritableBible swad, and so forth. And
if you had a lot of traumain your life and you're not getting healing
(18:15):
for it, one of the thingsyou're gonna do is you're gonna go to
the doctor or a psychiatrist and he'sgonna listen, and he's gonna slap you
with a label. Well, Ithink you're manic, depressive, or I
think you're bipolar. Now, don'twear that as a label, because that
isn't how God created you. Godcreated you and his image and his likeness.
(18:37):
We know that from the Book ofGenesis. And you can reverse the
you can reverse the causes of what'sgoing on. You don't have to stick
on that label. When you know, Michelle, someone comes in here and
tells me, oh I got thisor oh I got that. I look
at that and say, Okay. That tells me they have a lot of
(19:00):
hurting events that have led to thispoint. And part of the side effect
of this is PTSD. And ifwe do this and we do that,
we can get healing for that, and we can actually do what a lot
of people say can't be done.We can go where no man has gone
before and we can reverse that process. And I love it working with doctors
(19:23):
because as they get better, thedoctor will begin to reduce the medication.
I want to say this about themedication right at the beginning. So one
of the things you do not wantto do is quit med's culturkey. Now
I'm going to talk to you.I think it's important because we're talking about
the healing of PTSD. I've metpeople that just said, well, I'm
(19:45):
just going to quit all my clonica. Well, I'm just gonna quit all
my clonicin my first response is Iwould advise you not to do that.
Why you are going to be throwninto anxiety big time because the body is
used to and they try to throwthey try to quit it all and guess
what they had to get back onit. And I said, what,
(20:08):
go back to your doctor and lethim help you. Yeah, because those
medications are impacting our brain chemical structure, and so coming right off of medication
can absolutely leave you with a brainthat's not quite understanding what to do and
(20:29):
how to make its own chemicals afterit hasn't had to for some time.
I am a huge supporter of functionalmedicine, naturopathic medicine and seeing how to
supplement your brain structure, help yourbrain begin to reproduce these brain chemicals again
as you're coming off of your medicine. So we're certainly not saying to not
(20:52):
take a medical approach, but youknow, there are studies that have just
come out this is the big talkand in neuropsychology psychology that are saying,
you know, even with depression, now we understand that depression isn't exactly being
healed by medications that are there totreat serotonin deficits. This has been the
(21:14):
belief for a long time. Nowthe field of psychology is saying, oh
wait, a second depression really reallyoften comes from life circumstances and events and
not necessarily an organic deficit in serotonin. Maybe a low percentage of people can
heal from depression because of medication thathelps with serotonin. But most of the
(21:40):
healing we're starting to understand now comesfrom healing up your life circumstances and dealing
with the thinking patterns that have comefrom those traumatic experiences. So the excitement
here is that there's hope for healing. You don't have to day and your
depression and your PTSD any longer. And when you find a place that can
(22:06):
help you heal body, soul, and spirit, you will be better than
before your incidents. And that iswhat Pastor Gale and I are excited to
bring. Yeah, and I justwanted you to understand out there that some
of the reasons you need the medicationsin the short term is like a band
aid to help you through your presencesituation. And that's okay, So don't
(22:29):
feel bad. So well, wegotta wind up here. Lord, I
just pray you bless those that arelistening today. Bless them with hope and
peace and your presence in Jesus name. Amen, May the Lord bless you
and keep you, cause us faceto shine upon you. Be gracious to
you, give you peace, fillyou with hope in His presence, because
(22:55):
in the presence of God is everythingyou need. In the presence of God,
the Bible says, is fullness ofjoy. And may you draw joy
from the wells of salvation. AndI just want to thank you for listening
