Welcome to Hitting Gem's Golf, wherewe dig a little bit deeper to find
secret treasure for your betting and DFSpleasure. Yeah Baby, Hello Paul,
(00:22):
I am the Mojo King and thisepisode number eighty one of Hidden Gems Golf
brought to you by the Mighty nineteenMedia Group and sponsored by Sky Golf.
This week we'll be previewing the Children'sHouston Open being played in Houston, Texas.
We are closing in on the Mastersas it is only a couple weeks
away, folks, and I haveto say I am hoping for a turn
(00:45):
of fortunes. It has been atough last few weeks as far as Hidden
Gems Golf predictions go. Choosing longshots is always a roller coaster ride.
But we need to get on inclinesometime before AUGUSTA. With that said,
last week, although certainly not astrong week, somehow turned profitable. But
(01:06):
before we get into the recap oflast week or the preview for this week,
let's hear from our friends. Helloeverybody, this is the Gimmick in
Friingement podcast. I am Brad Winchesterwith me as always as my tag team
partner Tyler McDowell Blanken, you arelistening to Hidden Gems Golf that We are
also members of the nineteen Media groupfamily. Brad and I are the host
of Gimmick Infringement. Each week wediscussed the latest in aew and the wrestling
(01:27):
world, life, pop culture, and much much more. Be sure to
follow nineteen Media Group on social mediafor the latest content, or head to
the website for links to all ofNikeen's content. All right, let's talk
about the profitable, yet still disappointingvows Bar Championship last week. I will
make this as quick as possible becauseI want this bad juju off me.
(01:52):
Eric Barnes had been looking pretty goodcoming off an injury, but he did
not look good at the vous Barat all. As a matter of fact,
he was horrendous. In round oneof the valve Bar. He came
in at eight over par. Thento make it worse, I guess worse,
he withdrew after the round, andto tell you truth, I feared
(02:14):
that he may have re injured hisknee. Fortunately, it seems that that
is not the case, as heis in this week's field again. The
only entry that was sustained was tomy Ego. Then we had youngster Nick
Gabrowski, and he was no betterin round one. In fact, unbelievably,
(02:34):
he was worse. He shot iteighty on the round. Now after
met he did look pretty strong inround two, rebounding to four under and
the round, but he was nowherenear to cut. Our third and thankfully
less dreadful selection was Seema's power. He ended up a solid twenty sixth,
but even that was a disappointment consideringthat he was in the top six after
(02:59):
the third. At this point, you may be asking yourself, if I
had such an ugly mix of playerslast week, how did I turn a
profit? Well, I guess.Fortunately for me, many highly owned players
played poorly last week. When mylineup of five of six made the cut,
I cashed easily, as did anotherlineup that only had four of six
(03:23):
making the cut. And that,my friends, is how you make lemonade
out of lemons that are very sour. Moving along, this is the ninety
Media Group presentation. This week we'repreviewing the Texas Children's Open, being played
at Memorial Park in Houston, Texas. The publicly accessed course was built back
(03:45):
in nineteen thirty six and was mostrecently renovated in twenty nineteen by Tom Doak.
It is a par seventy seven, four hundred and twelve yards and like
last week, features an extra parthree and extra five. And also like
many recent courses, it is dormantBermuda which has been overseeded. When it
(04:05):
comes to the roughened fairways, theoverseeding is ryegrass and when it comes to
the greens the overseeding is POA.This course features wide fairways and large greens.
Despite those features, scoring has beensomewhat muted at Memorial Park over the
three times it has hosted the HoustonOpen recently. The one exception to the
(04:27):
scoring rule was Tony Finale, whoran away on this event back in November
twenty twenty two. He won itsixteen under, while runner up Tyson Alexander
finished at twelve under. In Novembertwenty twenty one, it was Jason Kokrack
winning at ten under. He wasfollowed by Kevin Tway and Scottie Scheffler at
(04:48):
eight under. In November twenty twentyit was Carlos Ortiz defeating all comers.
That year, he was followed bya Decie Matsuyama and a posse of live
toward defectors. Now I'm for real. Dustin Johnson, Taylor Gooch, Brooks,
Koepka, and Terrell Hatton all finishedin the top six. Now you
(05:10):
might have noticed me saying November repeatedly. That's because this is the first year
that this event has been taken offof the swing season since being played at
this venue. So we have threeyears of history of this event in November
and none in March. How muchdoes the season change affect the course and
in turn the leaderboard? That isthe fifty thousand dollars question. I say,
(05:35):
use course history at your own perilthis week. Quite frankly, I'll
feel overly confident in compcourses either. After all, have we seen this course
like it will react this week?Yet? I'm not sure what that said.
I'm throwing at a wide net andseeing if anyone falls in my lap.
(05:55):
As far as selections, I'm lookingfor guys who benefit from wide farewell.
But this week I'm not gonna overthinkit, as I'm prone to do
when i feel like I'm having arough patch or struggling a bit. I'm
just gonna relax and let it flowmo, just let it flow. Hey,
(06:17):
this is Jessica and Carmen. We'rethe host of small Town USA,
a production of nineteen Media Group.Join us every other Tuesday as we road
trip through small town America finding themost underrated, unknown, and quirky places.
See you Tuesday, See you Tuesday. All right, The simple question
(06:38):
up top is to Scheffler or notto Scheffler On the betting side, my
answer is a firm no. Thisis a field of one hundred and forty
four golfers, and at Scheffler's odds, I just don't think it pays to
try to make that play. Infantasy, it gets a little more interesting
because if you play him and hewins, you're golden. But you can
(06:59):
also play him and he just finishesamongst the leaders. If you still have
the winner, you're still looking prettygood. Right with Lowe Scheffler, I
like Sahitha Gala, will Zaotaurus andJason Day. But enough of the top
players. Let's dig deeper and nowyour featured presentation. So first up,
(07:20):
I'm starting with the ninety fifth rankedplayer in the world, twenty two year
old Aksha Batia. The young phenomhas a bright future ahead of him,
you can get glimpses of it already. With that said, he has missed
three of his last four cuts, which should keep his ownership pretty suppressed.
However, I love that those cutsare surrounded by a top twenty at the
(07:43):
Farmers and at last week's Vauswar. He is not afraid of tough courses.
Also, he is not afraid ofwind, assuming that there are some within
the fairways, or at least that'swhat he showed last year when two of
his better events happen at the PuertoRico Open and at Corrals. Next up,
I'm dropping down significantly to the twohundred and sixty seventh rank player in
(08:09):
the world, twenty seven year oldHayden Springer. So far the season,
Springer has made four of his fivecuts. You know, I love the
solid play, but on top ofhis consistency, the thing that works best
in a skill set should play wellthis week, and that is his length.
In the three years that this tournamenthas been played at Memorial Park,
(08:30):
bombers have flooded the leaderboards and Springercan definitely get it out there now.
Listen, I'm not looking for awin from him, but I think a
top forty is well within reach. And lastly, I have learned nothing from
last week because I am once againmaking my catch a falling knife play of
the week of veteran coming off aninjury. This time it is the seven
(08:56):
hundred and eighty third rank player inthe world, thirty four year old Bud
Collie. Since twenty twelve, Colliehas had twenty three top ten finishes in
one hundred and eighty eight career starts. Meanwhile, he has made about two
thirds of those cuts over a periodof time. Coincidentally, this year,
he has played in three PGA eventsand made two cuts. His miscut was
(09:20):
his last one at the Vouswar, but he missed on the number. I
think if Callie is healthy, thenhe is a pretty easy selection considering I
think he will do more than whatis expecting of him as far as odds
and draftking pricing. All right, that's it, that's all I got.
(09:41):
Good luck to you this week, and let's get it rolling forward into major
season. I appreciate you all forlistening. Take care and she did mm
hmmmm. Keep digging, okay,So keep digging, keep digging, keep
(10:22):
digging, keep digging. Let's keeptaking like a million times. Keep digging
in and then you'll find treasure inthe snow. You know, it's recording
your audio, not you. Notyou're dancing. I know, keep digging,
(10:48):
but oh my goodness. All right, I'm done. Say bye guys,
Bye bye bye those load
