(00:00):
Welcome to Hitting Jem's Golf, wherewe dig a little bit deeper to find
secret treasure for your betting and DFSpleasure. Yeah Baby, Hello, Oh,
(00:22):
I am the Mojo King. Andthis is episode number seventy nine of
Hidden Gems Golf, brought to youby the Mighty nineteen Media Group and sponsored
by Sky Golf. This week we'llbe previewing the Arnold Palmer Invitational being played
in Orlando, Florida, the homeof Mickey, Minnie Donald and Goofy and
now I suppose the home of Wolverineand Magneto. Too strange mix. I
(00:47):
guess the juxtaposition like that is veryfitting for my review of last week when
comparing it to my preview for thisweek. Last week was quite goofy.
But this week we're gonna test. They're not about to say a bad word,
are you? Of course not sunme never. This is the ninety
(01:07):
Media Group presentation, all right.I don't know if it was the tournament
name change or to added strokes tothe tenth hole, but something went very
wrong for this podcast last week.In the words of the great Sir Charles,
we were terrible. I came intothe event knowing how hard it is
to predict the results at PG National, so I decided to cast a wider
(01:32):
net, adding more names to considerthan usual. Unfortunately, my net seemed
to have some holes in it andit did not go well. My picks
on the top of the market wereled by a solid Shane Lowry, who
ended up in fourth place. Afterthat, not so good, a twenty
eighth of forty first, a sixtyfourth and to miscuts. Still, I
(01:57):
have to say it was better thanmy six hitten gems. They were led
by Alex Norns ninth and Dug Gimssixteenth. That's pretty good, right,
so let's just forget about the otherfour picks we'll all miss the cut.
Moving along, this week, we'llbe discussing the Arnold Palmer Invitational, being
played at the bay Hill Club andLodge in Orlando, Florida. The course
(02:19):
was designed by Dick Wilson back innineteen sixty one and overhauled by Arnold Palmer
in two thousand and nine. Bayhillis a par seventy two and will play
at seven four hundred and sixty sixyards. This is a signature event as
well as invitational, which means thatthis is a smaller than average field.
(02:40):
In fact, there will be atotal of sixty nine golfers this week and
the API will have a cut oftop fifty and tighs after the first two
rounds. Back to the course,it features bermuda grass everywhere, but the
fairways and rough will be overseeded withrye. The fairways can be considered wide,
(03:00):
but missing them would be costly. The rough can be thick, and
beyond the rough is water. Thosehazards are in half of the holes this
week. Bunkers are also a dangeras they are in abundance around bay Hill,
long and dangerous off the tee, which sounds a bit like it did
(03:20):
last week, actually exactly the same, however. Predicting the two tournaments have
been polar opposites last week the formerHonda Classic has been unpredictable for years,
but here at Bahill, the world'sbest tend to show up and indeed have
the best weeks well, with theexception of last year's winner, long shot
(03:43):
Kirk Kidiyama, who won it nineunder. He was followed by Rory McElroy,
Harris English, Sorel Hatton, Scotti, Scheffler, Patch Can'tley and Jordan'
speed. In twenty twenty two itwas Scotti Scheffler who won at five under.
He topped Hatton, Horsel and Hoveland. In twenty twenty one the winner
was Bryson D. Schambeau, andin twenty twenty the win it was Torrel
(04:05):
Hatton. The common theme on theseleaderboards were elite players, with the possibly
exception of Kidiyama, who also wereable to hit it long. It also
should be noted how well the DPWorld Tour players have done at this event.
Is there something about this course thathas a European vibe? I don't
know, but it will be interestingto see if Europeans can maintain the domins
(04:29):
here with this being a signature eventand all the top Americans playing. Regardless
of which side of the Atlantic thatthese players will be coming from. This
is an event where you have toscore on the part of fives and you
have to grind out the rest ofthe course. All right, let's get
to the picks. Friends of hittinggems, let me introduce Sky Golf's sky

and watch your game grow with skyGolf. All right, I'm going with
the kiss method, keep it simple, stupid. Unlike last week's course,
history seems to be a strong indicatorhere and because of that, I believe
this season's trend of long shots winnersends this week. So I'm picking up
(05:58):
top a trio of favorites. ScottiScheffler, Rory McRoy or Jordan Spief will
win this event. You've heard ithere first, Well, maybe not first,
because I'm sure a lot of peopleare picking one of these three regardless
enough of his front running, let'sdig deeper and now your featured presentation.
(06:20):
In all honesty, we're not goingvery deep. Limited field favorites tend to
do well here. But first upout of our hitting gems is the thirty
ninth ranked player in the world, thirty four year old Harris English. English
has a couple of things going forone tournament history, at least more recently,
(06:42):
since twenty twenty, he's played APIthree times. Those results second,
twenty sixth, and ninth. What'sinteresting about those three years is that he
didn't come to Bayhill playing his sharpest. In twenty twenty three, he had
missed the cut in four or fiveevents. Prior to the API. In
twenty twenty one, he had asixty six and two miscuts. Now in
(07:06):
twenty twenty he was a bit sharpercoming into the event with back to backtop
twenties before his ninth finish here. This year he has a seventeenth at the
Waste Management and a seventh at theGenesis. And at the Genesis he showed
that he had a complete game workingfor him as he gained strokes in each
(07:26):
major category so he comes into thisevent a little bit sharper than the past
three years that he's played here, and he had solid results in those three
years. I'm going to ride thehotthand with English. My second and final
selection for this week is the sixtysixth ranked player in the world, Stephen
(07:46):
Jaeger. Now I have to putsome mornings up out there. Yager is
not considered a bomber. Also,Yager has been very much boomer bust over
his last couple of months. However, in between his miscut seventy first and
fifty second finishes have been two thirdplace finishes, that being at the Mexico
(08:07):
Open and the Farmers. Both ofthose are longer courses, with the Farmers
results being particularly interesting to me becauseof its difficulty. Now do I think
he'll win this week? Not really, but he is plus money to even
top thirty in a sixty nine manfield. Sign me up. By the
(08:28):
way, I did originally have athird selection, but unfortunately Robbie mcizire did
not qualify for this event. Allright, Just to recap real quick,
Rory Scottie jordan' speth up top, with Harris English and Steven Yanger being the
hitting gems. That's it, that'sall I got. I appreciate you all.
(08:50):
She dig keep digging, okay,so keep digging, keep digging,
(09:18):
keep tagging, keep digging. Let'skeep digging like a million times. Keep
digging in and then you'll find treasurein the snow. It's recording your audio,
not you. Not you're dancing,I know, keep digging. Bo
(09:50):
oh my goodness. Okay,
