treasure for your betting and DFS pleasure. Yeah baby, hello Ah, I
(01:17):
am the Mojo King and this isepisode number seventy three. I think of
hidden Gems Golf, brought to youby a mighty nineteen VIDIA group and sponsored
by Sky Golf. This week we'repreviewing the Farmer's Insurance Open, being played
in San Diego, California. Weare back, ladies and gentlemen. Now
forgive me if this episode sounds alittle rougher than usual. It's gonna take
(01:38):
me. I'm a week or twoto get the rust off my shoulder and
off my vocal box. As youprobably will know, the PJ has one
of the wait, let me correctthat the PJ has the absolute shortest of
all off seasons in sports. Butyour boy doesn't get down like that.
I'm getting a little older, theworld is getting a little colder, and
sometimes Mojo just has to kick backand let those batteries recharge. You know,
(02:04):
I keep this pod pretty short, but I pack in tons of information
in the ten or fifteen minutes.I put in a lot of work to
keep you informed as well as atleast a little bit entertained. And I
wasn't going to start the season untilI knew I was ready to give you
my all. I say all thatto say this, The King has returned.
(02:25):
This is the ninety Media group presentation. All right, let's jump right
into it. This week, we'repreviewing the Farmer's Insurance Open, being played
at Tory Pines in La Joya,San Diego, California. Before we get
into the course, let me remindyou that this tournament begins on Wednesday,
not Thursday. It starts a dayearly and ends a day early, ending
(02:47):
on Saturday, as to avoid competingwith the NFL Conference Championships. By the
way, if you want more informationon the NFL Conference Championships, I also
hope with the Great Mike's Deaf HiddenGems football check that out. But back
to golf and this tournament. TheFarmers Insurance Open is being played on two
(03:08):
courses at Torrey Pines. Golfers willspend one round on the North Course and
one round on the South course beforethe cut. After the cut, players
who are still playing will play theirfinal two rounds on the South course.
These two courses are vastly different.Let's first talk about the North course.
It is a par seventy two seventwo hundred and fifty eight yards. It
(03:30):
was built by William P. Belland William F. Bell in nineteen fifty
seven. It was most recently renovatedby Tom Weisclough in the twenty sixteen.
The course features oversee the rye grassand the fairways and the greens are bent
grass. The fairways are relatively thinand the rough is pretty deep, but
(03:50):
it is actually by far the easierof the two courses. Unfortunately, as
I mentioned earlier, golfers will onlyget one round on this course. One
more thing note about the North Course. The PGA does not supply stats for
this course, so if you arelooking at any statistical models, remember they
are displaying numbers from the South courseonly now onto that South course. It
(04:12):
will be hosting three rounds of thisevent, just like the North course.
This course was built by William Pand William fl in nineteen fifty seven,
but it has been renovated most recentlyby Rhys Jones in twenty nineteen. This
course is a mammoth par seventy twoseven thousand, seven hundred and sixty five
yards. It makes it the longestcourse on the PGA tour. In addition,
(04:35):
San Diego has been flooded with rainover the last few days, which
should make the course play even longer. As for the specs, the fairways
are overseated rye grass, but thegreens are pure polar. These fairways are
tree lined, very thin and difficultto hit while the rough is thick.
The polar greens are very tricky andknown to get trickier as the day goes
(04:57):
on. Now, if you knowthis podcast, you know I complain about
our need to focus on the weather. Well, expect me to be extra
complaining this week. There are weatherfactors that I highly recommend you stay tuned
into if you're betting here. NumberOne, you'd rather not have golfers on
the south course during a tougher weatherday. It can get ugly on the
(05:20):
south side regardless, you don't needthe weather making it more complicated. The
same goes for wind changes during theday. Typically winds get worse as the
day goes on. Keep that inmind when you're submitting bets. Final weather
point, we are looking at highsin the sixties. This is not a
continuation of the fall tropical climate. It will be chilly here. This course,
(05:46):
even despite the weather, is muchmore difficult than any of the early
events this year. So keep thatin mind. When you look at recent
hot golfers, it's a completely differentenvironment. They may cool, real quick.
All right, onto the picks,All right up top, Homer Marikawa,
Xander Finale, Jason Day, andSahithagala all look pretty good to me.
(06:09):
But if I had to pick onethis week, I think I'd go
with sun Jam. He's playing welland has progressively gotten better here as far
as finishing results, and I'm veryserious his last five starts at Torrey Pines
fifty second, thirty six, thirtysecond, sixth and fourth. That trend
continues, We're looking at a champin twenty twenty four. But enough of
(06:33):
that front running action. Let's digdeep and now your featured presentation this week.
I'm focused on players who can showup at big events, play on
tough fields, and play well attough courses. I'm lighter than normal on
recent play, heavier than normal oncourse history. But for these deeper picks,
(06:55):
I'm really focused on what I feelis market inefficiency. Simply, players
fall through the cracks this early inthe season, and I'm gonna scoop them
up and hope for the best bangfor my buck. Now that means,
admittedly I'm not diving as deep intothe details here at Torrey Pines as I
usually do I believe this early inthe season and at an event like this,
(07:17):
the deep dive just isn't as necessary. The books quite frankly, have
to catch up to me. Now. Our first hit in gem is a
doozy. The two hundred and fortyfifth franc player in the world, thirty
six year old Peter Malnati. Nowlisten, He's played the last two weeks
and missed both cuts and he wasfifty if for worse in four of his
(07:39):
last five fall events. He alsocalled Lexi Thompson a gimmick about four months
ago. So what is there tolike about this guy? Well, he
apparently just loves the Farmers, atleast recently. That is his last three
seasons here. It just doesn't seemto matter what his form is. Coming
in last year he came in seventysecond and for miss cuts prior to cevent
(08:03):
and then came in twentieth. Theyear before that, fortieth and foremost cuts
prior to the Farmers, and thena twenty fifth here. The years prior
to that his form was slightly better. He came in forty eighth, miscut
fourteenth and then another miscut before theFarmers before coming in tenth place. Quite
(08:24):
frankly, he just seems to loveit here and know how to play here,
and I really like him for atop twenty, top thirty or top
forty pick at great odds. AllRight, I'm looking at the time.
I'm running a little bit low here, and I do want to get these
names in so quickly. I amlooking at two hundred and fifty to one.
Doug gim as a monadi light ifyou will, minus the slander.
(08:46):
Of course, he has struggled lately, but he is top forty three of
his last four times at toy.Three names that you can expect to hear
a lot on this podcast until theyblow up are Vincent Whaley, lancefill Griffin,
and Mavickmanneely. All three of theseguys were injured most of last season,
look to be healthy now and willbe given longer odds until they start
(09:09):
the impress. Their odds this weekrespectively to fifty, three hundred and three
hundred to one. All of thoseodds I like. Finally, I'm not
a big narrative guy, but ifyou are one, check out Michael Kim.
The PGA Tour left them off alist of players with local ties to
this event, which was odd considering, as he pointed out, he went
(09:31):
to Torrey Pines High School. You'llremember that MJ I took a personal meme.
Well, we may have to changethat to an MK one once he
rises up the leaderboard at this event. All right, that's all I got.
If you're riding with me this weekor ever, I truly appreciate you
until next week. I am gone. Keep digging, keep digging. Okay,
(10:18):
so keep digging, keep digging, keep digging, keep digging. Let's
keep digging like a million times, keep digging in and then you'll find treasure
in the snow. You know,it's recording your audio, not you.
Not you're dancing. I know, keep digging. But oh my goodness,
(10:54):
yes, oh oh, no,same thing you want to say. Do
you remember when I was being feelinglike I was sick and it was like,
keep digging. I don't know what? All right? Next time,
(11:16):
Yo, it's the kid Desmond Pile, host of Hip to the Games,
where the brilliance of basketball and hiphop's past and present is genuinely appreciated,
and you're listening to hip hop hiddenGems, and we are a part of
the nineteen Media Group family,
