Welcome to Hitting Gems Golf, wherewe dig a little bit deeper to find
secret treasure for your betting and DFSpleasure. Yeah, baby, I got
the hiccups. Hello. Hi,am the Mojo King, and this is

(00:23):
episode number seventy two of Hidden GemsSCOFF, brought to you by the Mighty
nineteen Media Group and sponsored by skyGolf. There's a new and improved linked
to skye Golf in the description ofthis podcast. This week we'll be discussing
Tour Championship which will be played inAtlanta, Georgia. Folks, the end
is new year. The twenty twentytwo twenty twenty three PGA season has reached

(00:45):
its peak. It's pinnacle, it'screscendo, it's finish line, as a
new FedEx champion will be crowned thisweek with down to the best thirty golfers
of the year, which means thatthis podcast will not have any true hidden
gems none whatsoever. I mean, the twenty nine man in the field is
Jordan's speeth for goodness sakes. ButI guess for a week we will talk

(01:06):
un hidden gems, won't we.All Right, I must say there's a
bit of irony here. If yougo back to episode number zero of the
Hidden Gems podcast, yes there's anepisode zero, you can see how poor
my editing skills were back then well, and you will also hear about my
biggest single win ever in fantasy sports. It turns out that win wasn't a
limited field event. As a matterof fact, it was this event.

(01:29):
So though there's a tiny amount ofgolfers here, which is not perfect for
the podcast, it has done wellfor my pockets before. Friends of Hidden
Gems, let me introduce sky golfsSkycaddy SX four hundred SEX four hundred.
It looks like a phone, butis singlarly geared to improve your golfing experience.
It's preloaded with thirty five thousand verifiedcourses mapped out with precision. By

(01:55):
walking and surveying each course, Skycaddywill give you a full view of where
you are playing. But this isway more than just a map. It

decide what to do with the arrestof the path to the whole. Not
only that, but it's precise onthe greens as well, showing you not
only pin locations, but all thecontours on the greens. Instantly become a

(02:19):
smarter golfer with a true path tovictory with the Essex four hundred. Click
on my link in the description andwatch your game grow with Sky Golf.
Okay, before we get into thisweek's preview, let me shed a tear
about last week's action. Olympia Fieldsis no friend of mine. I did
mention that different weather could affect thescoring on the course, but I wasn't

(02:44):
quite expecting the dramatic change that happenedthe last time I was played at the
course in twenty twenty, John Ramhad one at four under. That week's
heat are an Olympia Field to thepoint that only five players of this field
of seventy made it under par.Past week quite a different story. Victor
Hovland's near perfect fourth round led himto a comeback win at seventeen under.

(03:07):
For you non math major folks outthere, that's a thirteen stroke difference between
the last time it was played onthis course, and it wasn't just a
hobling thing. Thirty, yes, thirty golfers finished under par this week.
And remember that's thirty in a fieldof fifty. As they lessened the amount
of players who get invited to thesecond round of playoffs. So didn't do

(03:29):
well last week, But I blamethree days of the wet so of course,
and then a final round with nowind as the culprits of the dramatic
scoring change and my struggles. Iblame it all on the weather. I
mean, it couldn't be that Ijust messed up? Could it? Of
course? Not moving along? Thisis the ninety Media Girl presentation. All

(03:51):
right. This week, all eyesare focused on east Lake Golf Club in
Atlanta, Georgia for the Tour Championship. East Lake has been a home of
the Tour Championship since two thousand andfour. The course was originally designed back
in nineteen oh four by Tom Bendelow, but was renovated soon after by Donald
Ross. In more recent years,it has been touched up by Rhys Jones.
The courses of part seventy seven thousand, three hundred and forty six yards

(04:15):
easily features Bermuda grass on its greensand rough while its fairways are Joysa grass.
The fairways are thin and hitting yoursecond shot from the Georgia grass is
important year. But enough on thecourse because we have to talk about the
format of this event. It's unlikeany other Since two nineteen, golfers have
been given starting scores depending on wherethey rank in FedEx scoring. This year,

(04:39):
like last year, Scottie Scheffler entersthe georg Championship with the most FedEx
points and he will start the tournamentat ten under. Victor Hovelin, who's
in second place as far as FedExpoints, will start at eight under,
followed by Rory McElroy at seven,John Rom at six, and Lucas Glover
at five under. After that, golfers a group together in groups of five

(05:00):
troupe given a lesser score, withthe bottom five twenty six to thirty on
the FedEx points list starting out ateven par. When betting or playing dfest
this week, please check the rules. Does wherever you're putting your money at
this week take those starting scores intoaccount or not, and if they do
include it, you better pay specialattention to where the player you want to

(05:21):
use is starting, because if yourplayer has to not only defeat twenty nine
of the world's best golfers, butalso has to overcome nine ten strokes,
you may be asking a bit toomuch of that player. I have to
say between the complicated format and alack of hidden gems, this week I
will be going pretty lightly now.Last year, Rory McElroy won this event

(05:42):
at twenty one under. Scotty Schefflerand Sunjaym came in second at twenty under.
Rory had started at four under atthe beginning of the tournament, as
had Sunjaym, which means both ofthem technically started and a tie for sixth
place. Scotty Scheffler had started outin first at ten under twenty twenty one.
Hatcher Can't Lay one this event attwenty one under. He had started

(06:03):
in first place at ten under.John Ram had the strongest four days on
the course came in second, onestroke behind Can't Lay. He had started
in fourth place. Bryson d.Shambo started in third and ended up in
the same spot back in twenty twenty. Dustin Johnson started out with the lead
and held on to it again, winning at twenty one under. He was
followed three strokes behind by Justin Thomas, who had started in third, and

(06:27):
Xander Shoffley, who had surged upthe leaderboard from a three under start,
which I believe put him in atie for tenth. At the beginning of
the tournament in twenty nineteen, RoryMcGrory had won that year as well.
Starting in fifth place, he wasfollowed by Xander Shoffley at Brooks KPCA.
All Right, enough of that confusinghistory. Let's predict the future, shall
we, and now your featured presentation. You can make a pretty easy argument

(06:51):
for any of the top four playersthis week. If you tied me down,
I think I leaned Rory slightly overScheffler and Hovlin, Unlike the other
three, has looked human as oflate, so he is my fourth of
the four, although he has historicallyplayed pretty well here at Eastlake. Speaking
of playing well at east Lake,no one and I mean no one is

(07:12):
better at this course than Xander Shofflely. What he is starting at three under
and seventh strokes behind is way toofar for me to bet on him as
being the eventual winner. In fantasy, he makes a lot of sense,
but he is sure to be highlyowned. He may be the highest owned
golfer in the tournaments. Everyone knowsthat Xander loves Eastlake and he loves playing
on Joysia Grass. Okay, sonow beyond the obvious plays. Who else

(07:36):
is worth a look? Well,I have to say Russell Henley's been on
fire. I don't know does thatmake him obvious or not? If you're
looking to dive deep, I suggestsept Straker as a possibility, being up
seventh last year at this event, and he seems to show up when similar
leaderboards is shoffly. Maybe that traincontinues this week, but I have to
admit I think of him more ofa single round play than someone I expect

(08:00):
to take on this field for fourfull days. Last name I will mention
is Adam shank He's good at longor threes, which are in abundance here.
At the end of the day, these are the thirty best offers of
the season, so they all havereasons for a selection. Like I said
earlier in the show, I willgo light this week and mostly sit back
and enjoy the action before I go. I have one final note, and

(08:20):
that's about the weather. It's expectedto be blazing out this week with little
wind. If you notice most ofthe names I mentioned on the leaderboards these
past years, they were all bighitters. I think this week's weather,
if it holds up, should helpthe non bombers in the field, maybe
opening door for someone like say MatthewFitzpatrick or Brian Harmon. All right,

(08:41):
that's it, that's all I got. It's been a fun season. As
you know, the PGA doesn't takemany breaks, so we will be back
sooner than you think. Of course, if you miss my voice, please
feel free to check me out onhitting Gems football or hip hop hitting gems
for both. I appreciate sport hereand there and everywhere else. Keep digging,

(09:22):
keep digging, okay, so keepdigging, keep digging, keep taking,
keep digging. Let's keep taking likea million times, keep digging in
and then you'll find treasure in thesnow. It's recording your audio, not

(09:43):
youre not your dancing. I know. Did you did anything? Didn't keep
digging? Oh my goodness, isit
