Welcome to Hitty Gem's Golf, wherewe dig a little bit deeper to
find secret treasure for your betting andDFS pleasure. Yeah baby, Hello all,

(01:17):
I am the more Joe King andthis is episode number sixty two of
Hitting Jem's Golf, brought to youby the Mighty nineteen Media Group. This
week we'll be discussing the Wells FargoChampionship being played in Charlotte, North Carolina
this week. I am not withthe small talk, so let's just jump
right into it, shall we.Last week was a mixed bag for sure.

(01:38):
Betting wise, I end up plusmoney slightly and down in fantasy slightly
as well man, and if you, my friends, followed my selections,
you would be both happy and madat me at the same time. Let
me explain. I'll catch a followingknife selection. Bryce Garnette had a tough
third round but otherwise played really welland settled in at thirty third place.

(02:00):
Doubling your money up in a topforty is not a bad way to go.
Our other selection, Will Gordon wasactually in fourth place entering the final
round, but had a rough goat it and ended up in twenty fourth.
A bit painful for me considering Ihad a top ten and a top
twenty bet on him, but solidrun by him overall. The real reason

(02:22):
I end up with positive money isbecause I also had a top ten and
top twenty on Akha Batia. Thekid is going to be really good.
I think we want to take himanywhere. There are wide fairways, and
it is not hard to score, and you already know when I target the
coast guard Bryce Garnett. Anyway, that sounds like a lot of good news,
doesn't it. Well, there wasone issue I completely whipped on the

(02:44):
winner, that being Tony Fee.Now in fact I cautioned against not the
best move by me. This iswhy I'm the hidden gems guy and not
grab the obvious pick right in frontof your face. Guy. I have
no excuses, and I simply askfor a thousand pardons. Of course,
if you want to go and laughat me, just go ahead and sign
up for the Sharp SAT with thecode th em two six four, the

(03:07):
M two six four, them twosix four. Either way, that's the
code. Make sure you add alink to your favorite betting platform so we
could compare notes. This is theninety Media Girl presentation. All right,
This week we'll be discussing Wells FargoChampionship being played at Quel Hollow Club in
Charlotte, North Carolina. The Venerablecourse was designed by George Cobb back in

(03:30):
nineteen sixty one and has been renovateda couple of times by Tom Fosio,
most recently in twenty sixteen. Thecourse is a par semi one and a
gi enormous seven thousand, five hundredand thirty eight yards. It is long.
The entire course has a base ofbermuda grass but is overseated. The
greens are overseated with pola, whilethe fairways receive perennial rye. The greens

(03:53):
are fast, while the fairways arewell interesting. They're not overly thin,
and the rough isn't typically overly difficult, but there are trees and bunkers out
there to cause havoc. In addition, order can be a problem in seven
holes. Because of all the lengthof the course, golfers really can't play
it safe off the tea. It'stime to take the driver out and smash

(04:15):
it. If it goes far offline, there will be major trouble. Though
this is a long, tough course, course history here is also tough.
While Quel Hollow traditionally holds the WellsFargo Championship since two thousand and three,
the course has also held some othermajor events recently, like the twenty seventeen
PGA Championship and the twenty twenty twoPresident Cup. The course was modified for

(04:39):
those events to play a bit differentlythan traditional Wells Fargo events. Last year's
well Fargo was moved because of thePresident's Cup two TPC Potomac. I say
all that to say this, Iwill focus my course history on the Wells
Fargo events in twenty twenty one, twenty nineteen and twenty eighteen. There was
no twenty twenty event due to COVID, so In twenty twenty one it was

(05:02):
Rory mclrory winning here a semi regularthing at ten under. He was followed
by Abraham Answer at nine under,Victor Hoblin and Keith Mitchell at eight under,
and Gary Woodlind at five hundred. In twenty nineteen it was Max Homa
dominating here at fifteen under. Hewas followed three strokes behind by Joel Damon,

(05:23):
Justin Rose at eleven under, andfour golfers coming in at nine under,
including Ricky Fowler and Jason Dustner, who will play in this field this
year. In twenty eighteen, thewinner was Jason Day stealing the victory.
That's a reference to the twenty eighteenwhilst Argo financial scandal. You're welcome anyway

(05:44):
day one here at twelve under. He was followed by Watney Wise, The
Shambo and Paul Casey. The cutlines in these three events were two over,
one over and three over. Sowhat does all of this tell me
Shore, I don't know, asit tell you clearly, this course is
hard, it's long, and thetop five ers have had some bombers in

(06:05):
there, for sure, But AbrahamLancer, Nope, he isn't a bomber.
Jason Duffner forty four year olds atthat definitely not a deep letter.
And then there are more than afew second and third tier golfers who have
snuck into the leaderboards. I needsomeone to explain what's happening here to me
because I don't have the answers. And now you're featured presentation. All right

(06:28):
up, top listen. I'm notgoing to complicate things. I'm simply going
with Roy McRoy. He has wonat Kara Howe three times and it seems
silly to go against him, especiallywith Rom and Scheffler skipping this event.
I will be using him in oneand Duns where he is still available to
me. But if you're looking topivot, I have a clear second choice,
and that is Patrick Cantley. Hehas top twenty in his last five

(06:49):
events, including three top fives, and has been dynamite off the tea.
Have a clear third choice as well, and that is the twenty eighteen Winnerson
Day who looks like he has turnedthe clock back this season. Victor Hoblin
and a resurgent Matthew Fitzpatrick should beconsidered as well. A little further down

(07:10):
but definitely not hidden gem is KeithMitchell. This course plays to his strength
and his results here have shown it. Top ten here in two twenty one
and twenty nineteen. He's at thieveryprices and DraftKings, and I expect them
to be one of the highest ownedgolfer. Conversely, I believe Terrell Hatton
may be overlooked in fantasy and shouldn't. Now you can decide if you should

(07:34):
pivot from any of the guys uptop, because fee Now proved to me
last week. I'm not the oneto give that advice. However, let's
get dirty, because that's how Ilike it. Yeah. A lot of
time in tough field events, Ifind picking hidden gems difficult because the top
of food chain golfers will take upmost of the lead aboard and there's very

(07:57):
little room for the rest at thisevent. While the hop guys still do
well. There's more room for lowertier golfers. The problem is those lower
tier golfers seem to show up almostrandomly on these leaderboards. I feel like
we're playing the lottery here. Ifyou're a degenerate gambler, then you're playing
Russian roulette with your rent money. This week, I highly advised against it.

(08:18):
You should go pay your rent nowand then come back and finish listening
to the podcast for real, goscool for the rest of us. The
first name up who kept popping upin my research a name I did not
expect to see, and that isthe seventy fifth ranked player in the world,
twenty seven year old Hayden Buckley. His strength is a clear one.
He does most of his damage offthe tea and that is crucial here.

(08:41):
Now, Hayden had four straight miscutsand it looked like his swing, his
swing season magic had worn off.But he's come back with a tenth at
the Valero and a fifth at theRBC Heritage. Now I am worried if
he can hang with the big boysat this event. But it's very possible
that his mid season swoon was dueto the Florida courses and not a step

(09:01):
up in talent. Next up isa hunch play, but I feel pretty
good about it. And that's theconsummate professional that is the one hundred and
thirty second ranked player in the world, twenty eight year old Aaron Rye.
Rye is not spectacular, especially indistance, ranking one hundred and fifty fifth
on the PGA Tour in that category. However, what I do think he

(09:22):
can do well is hang around hardor slightly above. Anytime there's a difficult
course, I will pick him blindly. Now I have to emit. Coil
hollow and especially those long part foursdo scare me. But if they don't
intimate Rye, I think he couldfloat around ten under after the fourth round.
In some years that would put himin the top five. Now diving

(09:43):
much deeper. A popular pick fromlast week who promptly missed the cut,
the three hundred and fifty fifth rankedplayer in the world, twenty seven year
old Grant. Can he be inmy catching falling knife pick? I think
he can, so he is officiallythat might catch a falling knife pick.
The same thing that analysts liked abouthim LA this week is what I like
about him this week. The strengthof His game is undoubtedly off the tea.

(10:05):
It's what led him to eighth atthe Crowd's Championship. Of course,
he missed the cut last week atMexico, which is an easier course and
a much lighter field than this week. That will make many hesitant to go
back to pick him again, andthey aren't wrong for that, But it
also gives us betting in DFS leverage. So let's go Grant. And my

(10:26):
final selection is a guy that's officiallyranked much higher than Grant, but personally
I have to say I'm more downon and that's the one hundred and eleven
frank player in the world, twentysix year old Alex Smalley. The reasons
for and against Smalley are just likeGrants. The strength of his game is
off the tea, and his weaknessis his recent history. In six of

(10:50):
his last seven events, he hascome in sixty at the worst, including
four misscuts. When it all comesdown to it, his game is well
suited for this event, but hismind might not be suited for any event
at the moment. Still, ifit's ours or right, I am going
to take a nibble at the bait, all right, That's it. That's
all I got again. The HiddenGem selections are Hayden Buckley, Aaron Rye,

(11:13):
Brent Grant, and Alex Smalley.I appreciate you all for listening deeply
and sincerely. Keep digging, okay, So keep digging, digging, keep

(11:52):
digging, keeping a million times, keep digging in and then you'll find treasure
in the snow. You know it'srecording your audio not youre not your dancing.
I know, did you did?Did? Keep digging? Oh my goodness.
