🏗️Otis, nacido en 1811 en Vermont, se independizó con 19 años, yéndose a vivir a Nueva York. Allí empezó trabajando como carretero, pero tras casarse y tener dos hijos, decidió volver a Vermont, donde construyó su propio molino harinero. El negocio fue mal, así que decidió crear un aserradero. Las ganas de trabajar y la capacidad para reinventarse no le faltaban. Pero, tras fallecer su esposa, y a cargo de dos hijos pequeños, decidió dejarlo todo y regresar a Nueva York, a trabajar como maestro mecánico en una industria de fabricación de camas.
🛗Fue en ese trabajo en el que empezó a desarrollar toda su creatividad. Fueron varios los inventos mecánicos que desarrolló para mejorar la productividad de la compañía. Pero la clave no fue un nuevo invento, sino una mejora sobre un producto existente.
