Hey everybody, Welcome back to hit Point, an anime news show,
a j RPG news show, a niece news show, A
show where Baku and I will be talking about anything
and everything that catches our interest and or I are
We stream live every single Sunday at seven pm Central
a pm Eastern Time. Will be preview and trailers talking
about upcoming awesome games from MAGFest. Baku, how are you
(01:27):
doing today? We will also be responding to any super
chat received at the end of the show. It is
so good to see you. How are you doing today? Likewise, man,
I'm just tired.
Speaker 3 (01:38):
Man, it's like school's kicking my butt a little bit
this semester. It is the last semester, but it's it's
it's it's working.
Speaker 2 (01:45):
Its non magic. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:49):
But other than that, I feel like I'm fully recovered
from that bronchitis episode from Vietnam.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
So I just I'm glad we could trade. Yeah. Absolutely, Yeah.
Speaker 3 (02:02):
So we just had Luna New Year in my household,
so happy Luna New Year to everyone who celebrated it.
It was this past Wednesday, so I probably should have
said something. Actually, know that the last show was two
weeks ago, so I guess I have a chance to
say it. But happy lun New New Year's I celebrated.
If my family got to see my nephews. You know,
(02:23):
everything is shill. So life's good and I should stopped
complaining what I yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
Good, all right, it's my turn to complain. Then. Hey, everybody,
I just got over COVID. It sucks. It's the worst.
It is the worst. And I am Yes, I'm doing
everything I can to like bring out my my inner
energy today. So if you could all just you know,
send me your energy, that'd be really awesome. Because despite
(02:51):
the fact that my fever broke uh like three four
days ago, I can actually taste my food again. It's great.
Speaker 1 (02:57):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (02:59):
I'm so tired, and I still feel I still feel sick,
you know, like you get that you get that feeling
and like up here in your in your sinuses and
you're just like I should go anywhere today. That is
exactly like that is that is my fuel. But I'm
gonna power through it because I'm not contagious. I'm fine.
I am okay, yeah sickpoint exactly, dude, bro b Andrew
(03:21):
uh something where yeah, man, I am. I have been
streaming lately though, which is interesting. The last couple of days,
I streamed yesterday and this morning. Yesterday I was able
to somehow do like a seven and a half hour
stream of trails into Reverie. It was a lot of fun.
And I did it again this morning for about like
(03:42):
three hours. But then I'm like, all right, I'm done.
Gotta gotta pull myself together for tonight's show. You know.
But that's well, I'm glad you still afford. You know.
Speaker 3 (03:54):
We we were contemplating on whether or not we should
like not do it, but if Derek's aft for it,
I'm up for it, and if you guys, we're up
for it.
Speaker 2 (04:03):
So we're here, you know. Yeah, Yeah, we're here, and
we've got.
Speaker 3 (04:09):
A lot of things to go over. Maybe that's part
of reason why we feel like we should still have
the show. That is a pretty big part of it.
There's a couple of really cool things that happened. We'll
talk about a lot of this stuff from MAGFest, and
then we have something cool that we got to talk
about that we're going to be doing next week. So
I'll go ahead and just you know, preview that now
or or or hint at it. We we have another
(04:33):
interview with an indie dev scheduled for next weekend, and
I am really looking forward to it. I've been eyeing
this indie for for what feels like years now. I
don't think it's actually been years, but it's definitely been
several several months. I think I about this time last
year was planning out of video to talk about the
(04:54):
various indie RPGs that I was excited for. That video
ended up not really coming out, but this was on
that list and it is none other than god Shard Chronicles. Yes,
oh man, dude, did you know, Well, yeah, I think
you knew.
Speaker 2 (05:10):
Guys. Did you know that nodare is uh is making
a couple of songs for this uh and and that's
really awesome. Nor Do was the person behind this music
of Lunar and Groundia uh oh Solid Solid Solid Games
Solid ost uh.
Speaker 3 (05:30):
Anyway, So when the opportunity came up, uh through the
grapevine that they're accepting potentially interviews and other kind of media,
you know, kind of appearance where like, hey, would you
like to maybe come on our our Humble channel, and
they're like, yeah, sure, let's do it despite the time difference,
(05:52):
because they are they do recigne in a different country.
Speaker 2 (05:55):
And we tend to do that a lot apparently, And and.
Speaker 3 (05:58):
I do want to bring it up only because because
of that, and we have to make it work for
them for a live show. Nick Sunday's show is going
to be quite a bit earlier, a couple of hours earlier,
to make it for the difference.
Speaker 2 (06:11):
But so we're hoping. We're hoping to do it exactly
at the same time as the Super Bowl halftime show?
Is it the Super the Super Bowl? I just found
out that, Eagle Knight says, so, so who knows? It
could be? It might not be. I don't know. Well,
you know, we have nothing about I'm really I'm really
(06:31):
banking that my audience hates or or it has as
little interest in football as I do sportball. Yay. No,
what's what's going to be great?
Speaker 3 (06:42):
It's uh, it's the VOD will be there, so don't worry. Uh,
you know, if you can't be there in person, we understand,
but but please me by to watch the VOD so
that you're you can tell YouTube that we're still relevant, even.
Speaker 2 (06:58):
You still relevant. We were relevant once. I mean, you know,
at least tell you too that you still like us.
That's that's how you do it. That's right. Sorry, that's right.
Speaker 3 (07:11):
So so yeah, so make sure to not tune in
at eight because it won't be at eight pm Eastern
next Sunday. It will be earlier than that. So, man,
I'm excited for the show. I'm excited for the week.
I'm excited for the things that we'll be doing this year.
(07:32):
As a matter of fact, we are sitting almost you know,
just past seven fifty, like seven sixty something subs.
Speaker 2 (07:39):
We're trying to hit one thousand.
Speaker 3 (07:41):
So if you're listening to this podcast, if you're watching
it right now, tell your friends, Man, tell your friends
about us who might be interested in game news and
all that. We don't do a lot of these like advertisement,
but man, we want to hit that thousand.
Speaker 2 (07:54):
Dude like Macu really wants me to hit that thousand,
So I said, I do. I'm I'm forced to stream
some more. Uh what was it not Resident Evil? What
was the goal was not Resident it was? Was it?
Stream part two of Soulen Hill? Yeah? The remake? Yeah? Yeah,
I should say Buck, who's got his own reward.
Speaker 3 (08:14):
He alter motive and that is to get there to
place on Hill too. But hey, I'm sure you guys
enjoy watching Derek play Silent Hill too, play Sun and HILLO.
Speaker 2 (08:26):
I'm a pro horror stream gamer, so yeah, horror game
stream they even know something of a coward myself.
Speaker 3 (08:39):
The frail reminds you that you're still alive, right, so
it's nice. Yeah, yeah, tell your friends about us, anyone
who's interested in RPGs and all kinds of fun stuff.
We do a podcast every every weekend.
Speaker 2 (08:53):
Yes, all right, Well that's about the the intro sordid.
So let's talk about some upcoming game releases. Yes, all right,
so this one this week's releases, that's the one. This
this this week's this week's release. Well we just skip
(09:13):
a week.
Speaker 3 (09:14):
So there's one that's uh that's been passed, and then
there's one that's coming up. And the consequence of Derek
being sick, I'll be doing most of the talking today.
I know you guys, I'll do what I can hearing
Derek's magnificent woys, but you'll just have to make do.
We'll keep the show short and keep the stuffering shorter.
All right, Hey, why don't we just go ahead and
(09:35):
take a look at the trailer and then we can
talk about this next game cough. And I'm brave the
Lost Hero that already came out only a couple of
days ago, but we should we should take a look
at it because I want to hype over.
Speaker 2 (09:46):
This all right, as long as we do so responsibly. Well,
I mean it's out. Do we have to be responsible? Anyone?
Can we be or responsibles? Out? You absolutely do have
to responsibly hype mister Baku. There it's on a T
shirt and makes it a fact. I'll have you know.
You can get that T shirt at shop dot Superdrek
RPGs dot com. I love the segue you've been learning
(10:08):
from LTT.
Speaker 3 (10:12):
So yeah, okay, so this is you guys might know
with the sequel to the previous fandom brave and I
still think it's kind of crazy that they waited all
these years to really to release the sequel. I think
the when original came out, it was like before PSP.
I think it was like PS two Pso.
Speaker 2 (10:31):
Oh yeah PS two. There is a copy on PS
two for sure.
Speaker 3 (10:34):
Yeah, so this game was a minute ago, okay, but
they came out of a sequel, a direct sequel called
The Lost Hero, and it came out just a couple
of days ago. Uh, it is still a really nice
tactical RPG that's a little bit more on the unconventional side.
Speaker 2 (10:55):
For those who have played what's that other game called? Uh,
what's the other game that comes in the same company?
Oh like Guruman our Gosh, what's there's a the Skaya
this guy? Oh?
Speaker 3 (11:12):
Yes, yes, you may be somewhat familiar because there are
some things that are common. But this game does its
own thing too, So this is not like oh, the
Skaya but reskinned with other characters like No, it's just
it happens to come in the same company. They have
some ideas that translates over, but then they also do
(11:32):
a lot of unique things, like such as not having
a perfectly scared square grit they go, they had these
like Radius system. Yeah, it's really fun. I love the
previous game, and if I have time, I would love to.
Speaker 2 (11:47):
Play this sequel. Awesome.
Speaker 3 (11:50):
Yeah, so this is This came out on the thirtieth
on PS four or five, Switch and PC v esteem.
There is limited edition for the GO release SPS four,
five and Switch at the NPOCH Software America at the
Nissa store, So check them out if you're interested. Up
(12:11):
next week, got an indie title called Riff of the
Necro Dancer. This is the game that Derek keeps mistaking
for the other the Necromancer.
Speaker 2 (12:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (12:22):
Yeah, yeah, so this is called Riff of the Necro Dancer. Yeah,
play on word from their previous game. Let's take a
look at this one as well.
Speaker 2 (12:31):
All right, well that didn't work. Let me try that again. Yeah,
let's try that again. Let's try that one more time.
It should there should be a whole twenty seconds of this.
There we go.
Speaker 3 (12:48):
There's a rhythm game going on, as one would expect,
because even the previous title has a lot of like rhythm.
Speaker 2 (12:55):
This looks kind of different though, from what I've seen
in the past from Necro Dancer. Like, definitely wasn't there
originally like pixel art stuff and stuff on the original.
Speaker 3 (13:04):
Yes, yes, this is definitely like a kind of a
different art style, and you know, the game, the gameplay
is completely different.
Speaker 2 (13:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (13:13):
So yeah, so it's not like a sequel per se, yeah,
but more like yeah, yeah, but it's the game from
the same studio. So if you like their previous stuff,
like and you take a look at their Steam page
and you think that this is something you might be
interested in definitely like wish list them at least, even
if you don't plan to buy immediately. It's coming out
(13:36):
on February fifth, so in just a couple of days
only on PC the demo is available. So if you're
kind of on the fence, you don't know what this
game is about, that's why the damil is there, right,
And and I love it. A lot of the indie developers,
especially because they're pushing Envelope to try new things, it's
(13:56):
really hard to demonstrate their ideas because there's there might
not be anything that you know, they can draw direct parallel. Right,
So the best thing for you to do is actually
just get on the demo and just try it out.
If you see it and it's like even looks remotely interested,
just give it a shot, you know, give it a try.
(14:17):
It could be your nixt favorite game. You just never know, right.
I found a lot of indie's that way, and I'm
just like, wow, if I had to try to Stamo,
I would not care about you, like, you know, like,
and once I try it, I'm like, Okay, I'm so
now I need to tell everyone about this.
Speaker 2 (14:34):
Yeah, all right, So I guess we're gonna switch Gears. Now,
those are the games that are upcoming, but we have
some games that were just recently announced, So we'll talk
about some of those new games. Uh, and a lot
of these are gonna be tieing into your your recent
adventures at MAGFest, right, that's right.
Speaker 3 (14:54):
So I did do a little vlogging, but I just
have not had time to edit it, like I thought
about editing it and just kind of show you guys
a little clips here and there, like, oh, yeah, this
is what Macfest looks like. But unfortunately it might have
to wait for another day. But I can tell you
about all the cool indie depths that I had a
(15:14):
chance to talk to you. So let me just tell
you guys a little bit about Macfest and why this matters.
Right For those two are unfamiliar with Macfest, it stands
for the Music and Game Festival, hence Macfest. There are
all kinds of games that comes, tabletop games, they have
(15:36):
a land room. They have all kinds of games. You know,
it's not strictly like video games, but they even have
like people.
Speaker 2 (15:45):
Like tabletop and card games and such.
Speaker 3 (15:47):
Yeah, they even have like what I can only describe
them as like video games, but not like conventional video games.
I guess like special made hardware that they have program
oh yeah, and he'll play that one game and has
to wear unique controllers that they have put together.
Speaker 2 (16:05):
Like you neque video experiences like you used to be
in malls.
Speaker 3 (16:10):
Back in the day, like kind of kind of like
there's this one game where like this one game where
it is a video game in a sense that like
you know, there's a there's a screen, there's a software
playing and you can see the game happen, but it
doesn't use any conventional controllers like the Wii mode or whatever.
Speaker 2 (16:32):
Instead it uses.
Speaker 3 (16:34):
A giant hat that's hungover, and then you have to
like wear like uh one of those like uh you know,
like oh what do is those call like a sanitary
like hat thing, right, And then you put on this
giant hat and you try to balance this giant hat.
And when I say giant hat, I mean like the
(16:56):
size of like a mini Cooper hat that they hang
above you right where like you know, very securely hungover
and you carefully put your hat over, and then you
have to step on this like balanced scale thing and
and the whole is too active.
Speaker 2 (17:13):
You have to stand and you have to wear it
at Just that sounds like too much.
Speaker 3 (17:17):
A lot of people would try in that game, and
that game looks so fun. I didn't have time to
try it myself, but I saw it, I took pictures,
I filmed it.
Speaker 2 (17:25):
Uh, it was great.
Speaker 3 (17:27):
And there are lots of these experiences that are like tactile,
like manual tactile games that like you actually have to
touch a certain buttons and you play, but they're not
like tabletop like I don't know how to explain it.
It's almost like something that you might find at like
a fair or.
Speaker 2 (17:48):
Or you know, in an arcade.
Speaker 3 (17:50):
Right, So they have games like that where they're and
they're indeed like someone just thought that this might be
cool and they built it and put it together in
the showcase that at Macfest.
Speaker 2 (17:59):
Right. Interesting. Yeah, So so just to give you.
Speaker 3 (18:02):
Guys an idea, when I say indie games, like, you know,
we talk about indie games, we talk about indie games
that are coming to Steam and console like indie video game,
but there are other kinds of indie games that would
never hit the market. Can only experience them at these
kind of conventions. So that's my pitch to people who
may want to swing by one of these days. Also
(18:23):
again is music and game festivals. So there's a whole
place where they do nothing but music for like twenty
four hours a.
Speaker 2 (18:32):
Day for three days.
Speaker 3 (18:34):
Oh no, stop bands orchestra, DJs. They all do music,
but game music specifically, so they'll do like remixes, they'll
do original you know, compositions inspired music like think.
Speaker 2 (18:49):
Like og og OgH remix, oh see remix, think oh
see remix, but like live. Yeah, that's what the music
part of it is and it's super cool. But back
to video games.
Speaker 3 (19:04):
Because we are a podcast that talks about video games.
Over there, there are three there are four separate rooms
and more like halls. Think like an exhibition hall. Yeah,
exhibition hall, thank you, that's the right word. They're literally
exhibition hall. There are four exhibition halls. They're huge halls.
(19:27):
One of them is the marketplace, okay, where you can
buy stuff from like artists, alleys, like vendors. But three
of them are video games, right. One of them is Indie,
one of them is an Arka, and then the other
one a home console game, so you can play things
like and sixty four, Psycho Saturn, the Old Light, Nintendo games.
(19:48):
It's like volunteers. People just like, here's part of my collection.
You have my permission to play it. It's all locked
down and very secure. So they have stuff like that
over there as well, So it's just it's got something
for everyone. The arcade games, I'll like shift from Japan.
Speaker 2 (20:06):
Uh. You got a bunch of ArKade games that you'll
never find in your local arcade, right, and you get
to play them for as much as you like, you know,
provided to you. Immediate popping comes to mind.
Speaker 3 (20:18):
Oh yeah, so many, so many rhythm games, so many
many in the entire backed area is just nothing but
rhythm games. Yeah, yeah, like a third a third of
the expo hall was just rhythm games. It's both music
and games, so of course that would be there exactly,
and they're super fun. So I highly recommend it for
(20:40):
anyone who has never had a chance to visit Macfest,
including Derek. I'm pitching this to Derek. I'm like, please
come through my area, please visit up here.
Speaker 2 (20:48):
You should be very glad I didn't come this year
because because I would have, I would have been a
super spreader.
Speaker 3 (20:55):
Okay, you know you're going to a convention like con
flu is a thing, you know, like, it's very easy.
All my friends got sick from Macfest, and I only
didn't get sick because I got super sick from that's true,
sick from Vietnam. So and then I'm like, I have
all this immunity by the time I got back to Macfest.
(21:16):
But a bunch of my friends got sick. One of
my friends got sick and had to cancel her birthday.
This passed that yesterday, matter of fact. So yeah, so
a bunch of In fact, we're about to talk about
some indie depths I had a chance to talk to.
Half their teams got sick. That's why they took some
time to get back to me. And I you know,
if you guys are watching for those depths that I've
(21:38):
talked to, police feel better.
Speaker 2 (21:40):
I appreciate you guys getting back to me. Uh So, But.
Speaker 3 (21:43):
Without further ado, let's talk about some of these depths
that I had a chance to speak with, starting with
a game that we had previously talked about, like a
couple months back, we talked.
Speaker 2 (21:51):
About several months. I think we talked about like even
a year ago.
Speaker 3 (21:55):
Yeah, absolutely, uh And the game is called Hermit and Pey,
and I finally got a chance to you know, well
not set down worth standing, and had a conversation with
Nathan and Mason. There are two of such developers. Uh
and you know, let's let's watch the video so that
we can uh, well, not not a video of our interview,
but a video of the game, so that you guys
(22:17):
know what I'm talking about, and then we can talk
a little bit more.
Speaker 2 (22:20):
All right, hermit ed pig one one thing, mushrooms. It's
a really nice game, mm hmm, and one other thing
to be left alone. That's right.
Speaker 3 (22:38):
So I had a chance to actually sit down and
play the game. Well, I actually sat down and played
the game, oh yeah, and gave the gave the battle
system a try, and it is it is very unique.
And like, you know, here's the thing when you're looking
at like this, like it's it's it's it's hard to
convey like how the game has actually played. Perhaps they're
(23:00):
really just selling you on the idea of their adventure
and I'm sold, right, but I do want to see uh.
Speaker 2 (23:07):
Some gameplay.
Speaker 3 (23:10):
Like and how like, yeah, this is what the game
play looks like in Battle, but they're not showing you
the mechanic. And I'll tell you, guys, a little bit
about the actual game mechanic of the game.
Speaker 2 (23:22):
So uh, it is the very interesting story.
Speaker 3 (23:25):
The dialogues are really funny. So okay, so a little
bit here. You see right there, like to ship those
attack has like a button combination associated to it, like
left up, down, left, lef right. You know, that's just
kind of to break up like the monotonous like battle
because you run into them, you just buttons mashed and
(23:45):
you like, is it over? So like, you know, the
designer decided that, hey, we're gonna add very simple comment
prom to choose different types of attack, and you can
see all the enemies that you run into. Let's say
you run into a cockroach and that is a cute
I can not believe I'm saying this, but like a
(24:07):
cute cockroach and you want to defeat this cute cockroach
in the forest. You know, one of the attacks that
might be effective, like think Pokemon, it's like, oh it's
super effective. Yeah, might be stomp right, Oh, you were
trying to remember what stomp is and then you would
hit the stomp command and then you know, if you
(24:29):
hit enter in the right time as something that goes down,
you might get a crit chance oh right, but you
have to nail it yourself, right, so you're watching these
gauges and making sure that you hit it in the
right time. My feedback for them was that I find
it really interesting, but I just cannot remember all the combinations.
But I haven't played it long enough to remember it.
(24:51):
But you know, there were just so many, Like at
the demo, there were at least like ten of them,
so there are ten like three button combinations for each
of the things. So I have to remember ten three
button combinations. And right now, you can look at the combinations, okay,
(25:12):
in the battle screen, you can go look at the
book and list out all of them for you, But
then you have to go back to their attack and
then try to time it and then try to time
the create so it could get a little hectic.
Speaker 2 (25:24):
But I think overall it's.
Speaker 3 (25:26):
Really interesting and I'm hoping that they can find some
way to refine that a little bit and it would
make for a really cool game. But right now, like,
it just hurts my head a little bit, and maybe
I'm just like not.
Speaker 2 (25:40):
I'm not. I'm definitely not built for remembering those sorts
of things.
Speaker 3 (25:45):
Yeah, So my conversation with Nathan and Mason, you know,
we were talking. I asked them, like, so, what is
the message that they're trying to bring to, uh, you know,
the community, because this is a super interesting game, like
a hermit and pig.
Speaker 2 (25:59):
What is this about? Like how did this idea?
Speaker 3 (26:02):
And they basically said this, They said, you know, the
hermit idea is about reconnecting with society.
Speaker 2 (26:09):
This is what like the idea of the game is.
Speaker 3 (26:11):
And I love this because maybe that's like the thing
that draws me to indies. Like they have a simple
message and they're effective in spreading this. And it's not
like like I don't want to like make it sound
like I don't want to diminish what I'm about, you know,
to say, but like sometimes when you play like JPG
or something, it's like one hundred and fifty hours, this
(26:32):
is something like grand ideas by humans civilization, and like
lots of sub ideas in there, and that's great, But
sometimes I don't have that kind of attention span for you,
Like after one hundred fifty hours later, what were some
ideas you were talking about in the very beginning of
the game.
Speaker 2 (26:51):
I may not remember at this point.
Speaker 3 (26:54):
So to me, if you have a very specific thing
that you want to share that you're passionate about. You
could probably do it more effectively in twenty hours to
complete a story with all the morals and everything intact.
So that's kind of how I feel this is going
to be. So it's kind of cool. I got to
(27:15):
talk to them. Mason said that he's actually a comic
book artist. He's got some published works for kids. So
if you guys are looking for published work from this
artist from Mason, there's a book called Cat House, Cat Trouble,
and it's like a book for kids. So I think
it's really cool. They are hoping to finish this game
(27:35):
by the end of the year. The gameplay should be
somewhere between late eight to fifteen hour, depending on how
you play the game. So I am very excited to see,
you know what this game is going to be like,
and I think you are because this game has you know,
some Earthbound kind of it. Definitely it is Earthbound Codd right,
(28:03):
I saw this game, I'm like, I think there's gonna
like this one.
Speaker 2 (28:06):
So I think that's one of the reasons that I
first had put on my radar was like, I think
you might like this. It looks earth Boundy and I
can definitely see some of those. I don't know if
it's an intentional inspiration. I haven't talked to the devs,
but I would be very surprised if they had never
played Earthbound and came to this. No, they had.
Speaker 3 (28:24):
Yeah, when I brought up earth Bound, they had not
this kidding, No, no, they They have accredited Earthbound as
one of the inspiration. Other inspirations includes bomber Man, Kata
Mari Links Awakening, and Paper Mario and you.
Speaker 2 (28:37):
Know what, combat with the button press. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (28:40):
Yeah, absolutely, so I'm excited to see how this game
will come out. Hopefully at the end year, we'll say.
So that's Herman and Pig, and that's something that we
had discussed previously. Another game that we had discussed previously,
and I had never seen them at Macfaest, and I'm
glad that they came by this time. Yeah, is King
of the dump An. If you guys remember this one
(29:03):
is because we've talked about it and I got.
Speaker 2 (29:05):
To play it once, uh more than they wanted me
to play at the time. In fact, let's check out
the trailer.
Speaker 3 (29:11):
Yeah, they brought a new display and I sent it
to Derek. Oh yeah, Yeah, they had a new display
with like CRT TVs. Oh so kind of like stacked
up like it's like a garbage pile playing like the
you know, the trailer in there.
Speaker 2 (29:30):
It was super cool.
Speaker 3 (29:32):
And then uh so I had a chance to talk
to you. I believe his name was Doug. I believe. No,
sorry it wasn't Doug, it was that was someone else.
It was Matt. Name's gotta mixed in my head. Yeah,
his name is Matt. We got to talk to him
a little bit, and he's one of the developers. So
(29:52):
I didn't ask him a whole lot of questions about
this because the thing is, Derek and I had already
met the developers at My games earlier last year, so
I would be asking them the same things, so I
didn't bother with it. I really just you know, wanted
to spend time trying to see, like, you know, when
when are you thinking that this will be done?
Speaker 2 (30:14):
Et cetera.
Speaker 3 (30:15):
Yeah, so this game, yeah, twenty twenty five, So yeah,
this year is what they're hoping for, and this is
another game, uh that we're really looking forward to. If
you guys saw the trailer they have, like what is
that called? Like most six kind of map. Oh yeah, yeah,
(30:36):
seven most seven yes, so, uh, you know, and it
took some time for them to put that together. And
if you guys want to, uh, you know, listen to
some of the things that we've already covered up, maybe
watch one.
Speaker 2 (30:48):
Of our previous spots.
Speaker 3 (30:49):
Yeah, well maybe pretty much into detail because we've talked
about all these I.
Speaker 2 (30:53):
Mean, I do want to give some details because because
that that trash can is in fact on the on
the thumbnail. So all right, So the cool thing about
the battle system that I will just talk about real
quick is that, like it is, it is a turn based,
grid based system. So it's kind of in some ways
a little bit like, oh, it reminds me of Live Alive.
So you have a small grid, but you can move
(31:14):
your characters around in it, and the kinds of attacks
that you do can leave status effects in an area.
So like if you're fighting like a glass bottle, for instance,
and you break it, it has like these shards of
glass that effect that tile from then on throughout the
course of battle. It's so so cool, and you can
traverse around these dumps, these oh, the whole the whole area.
(31:36):
When I was able to play it, you could just
basically jump on all sorts of stuff and kind of
go wherever you wanted to. Yeah, you can. Oh, the
traversal in that game is so much fun. It's just
it's such a it's such a beautifully crafted game that
(31:57):
just despite the fact that it has made garbage, it
is so cool. This game is literally garbage, and they're
proud of it. And it is made by by two
real custodians.
Speaker 3 (32:13):
Yes, yes, even on their website there's like they stated
that in their website. It's like, Hi, we're real life custodians.
We know a thing or two about this. They're subject
matter experts. No, but it's a very compelling game and
it looks amazing. And the thing about a lot of
(32:33):
these indies again, as we've seen in recent years, is Man,
especially the two d Ones, I feel they can stack
up against the old school studios any.
Speaker 2 (32:45):
Day, like looking back, like comparing real old school to
like today's modern old school. Like Man, they have honed
the the pixel art to such a fine degree at
this point is so nice.
Speaker 3 (32:59):
One Man's a no, this treasure absolutely, that's exactly what
it is, all right, So without further ado, let's move
on to New games that we haven't talked about ever
in Hitpoint. Coming up is an anime visual novel about
(33:19):
doing taxes by dog Ward dog Wood Gaming.
Speaker 2 (33:25):
Oh yeah, and that's why we're talking about auditing all
of the games all the indies at MAGFest. Right, that's right.
And listen, guys, I know I say that we don't
do visual novels, and this one is different. I'll tell
you a couple of reasons it's different. Yeah. Uh now, no,
(33:47):
you feel free to correct me if I'm I'm mistaken here.
But from the brief little bit of a research I
did here, this one is launching exclusively for Microsoft PowerPoint.
Not exactly, but let's check it out. Let's check it out. Yeah,
I'll put on the trailer. Yeah, we'll talk about it.
(34:09):
Look at the game first. Okay, oh boy, send no
music to this is that should be music there is.
It's very quiet. Can you hear it? Yeah? I can
hear it. Now. Okay, don't fraud my heart. Don't fraud
my heart. They're like, oh no, what are you doing,
(34:33):
scet accountant?
Speaker 3 (34:35):
This is this is what happens when Derek, let's uh,
the Factor take over the show. He's showing a visual novel.
Speaker 2 (34:43):
I threw it in the thumbnail. The world may never
know why the world may never know The exciting world
of Texa today exciting. I'm not here for the anime.
White sound like a very taxing in Taxes, it sounds
like a very taxing game to play, But I'm look
(35:06):
at this debit and credit find true Love. M oh my,
you're taxes.
Speaker 3 (35:14):
Oh these are some of the most well dressed accountants
I have ever seen in their office.
Speaker 2 (35:22):
Anyhow, I better go talk to my accountant. Tax season
is coming up. It certainly is all right.
Speaker 3 (35:34):
So the thing about PowerPoint is not an entire joke. Uh,
this game so okay? Yeah, most games are built on
some kind of engine, right, or some kind of like
tool set that is meant.
Speaker 2 (35:45):
For game development.
Speaker 3 (35:47):
Yeah, these guys decided, you know what we're going to do.
We're going to build a fully playable visual novel in
power Point. Yeah, yay, it's just crazy. So I got
to chat with their lead developer and lead developer I
(36:10):
believe his name is Essime. I spelled it out, but
if I mispronounced your name, I apologize, sir. But yeah,
it's built entirely on power Point and that's why I
wanted to bring it up because oh.
Speaker 2 (36:22):
Man, you know you wanted you want to talk about
being unique. Uh, this is unique.
Speaker 3 (36:27):
I have never seen a game built entirely based on
power Point as like the engine that runs it.
Speaker 2 (36:35):
It is really really interesting, really weird tool. Anyways, Yeah,
so here's some things that they had told me. The
memory limit for power Point is, uh, they're they're hitting
the memory limit. They're like two thousand like slides. Oh
(36:55):
my god.
Speaker 3 (36:57):
And they are still going, oh wow, they're going to
put this into two files. I don't know how they're
going to do this, but yeah, it is the visial
novel based around doing taxes, and you know, I think
that they were like, corporate taxes is kind of inspiration
for this. They are hoping to release this sometime next
(37:17):
year because it's it's actually taking very long for them
to convert the file from PowerPoint to ex E. And
something that I never knew but I guess I should
have known, is that if you want to put a
game on Steam, it has to be.
Speaker 2 (37:40):
Ex Oh my gosh, yeah, I guess that makes sense.
Speaker 3 (37:45):
So they're like, well, no one has really done this before,
because no one has really built a game in PowerPoint
and try to convert it to ex and then put
it on Steam. So I wish them the best of luck,
especially to the lead developer programmer whom I had a
chance to speak with. I mean, they're wholly responsible doing
(38:07):
just that thing. Wow, so I may be the best
of luck.
Speaker 2 (38:11):
May I just say you know what? Sometimes sometimes people
apply for jobs and on your resume they might say
something like proficient in Microsoft PowerPoint or something of the sort.
Can I can I just say that unless you can
do this, you are no longer allowed to say proficient
(38:32):
in PowerPoint. This raises the bar, Like, this raises the bar. Absolutely?
You remember this? I right, do you remember this one?
Speaker 3 (38:42):
Like Japanese man who like makes he's like an ex
corporate like you know, salaryman, and he used to do
a lot of Excel spreadsheets and then when he retired
he didn't know what to do, so that he started
like making pictures in Excel.
Speaker 2 (38:59):
This sounds very yeah.
Speaker 3 (39:00):
Yeah, they turn into like you know this, like he
turned into the sensation and now he's selling his works
for like ten twenty thousand dollars pictures on Excel, completely
drawn in Excel. And I'm just like, well, the Microsoft
Tools man telling you, guys, you just gotta find.
Speaker 2 (39:19):
You know, you find your niche. You know you can
be successful. That's don't quit believe in one day. I
wonder if this started off as just an idea of
like someone like I'm just gonna dick around at work today.
I don't know what am I gonna do. Here's your
visual novel all.
Speaker 3 (39:37):
I'm going to make a game about tax evasion. I mean,
no text auditing on Yeah, how a point?
Speaker 2 (39:43):
Besides, they already they already did a JRPG about text
fraud and that is a or rather, turn it Boy,
turn it Boy commits tax evasion. Yes, that is that
is an actual, un actual game. So you know, oh
my god, there you go.
Speaker 3 (40:02):
So uh, next up, we've got another game. This time
is a two D tactical fantasy RPG that's been inspired
by a fire emblem called Advent of the Reaper. Look
at that as well, all right, that the Reaper. Yeah,
(40:23):
so for this game, And we may not have to
watch the entire trailer, but they're fairly early in development
right now, and their entire team just consists of hobbyists,
like no one's doing this free time, like full time
at all. Yeah, so I had a chance to speak
with their project league.
Speaker 2 (40:42):
His name was Doug. Hello Doug. And let's see, I
mean I got a bunch of notes. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (40:50):
So it was saying like fire Fire emblem was like,
you know, his absolute favorite game, and he also did
some comic book back in high school. And you know
what happened was COVID happened. Yeah, and so I did it.
Speaker 2 (41:06):
I never noticed. Yeah, well.
Speaker 3 (41:10):
You must have been living under a boulder. Well, I mean,
but you found out the hardware that COVID happened, yeah recently, right, Yeah,
I'm so sorry again that you got sick man. But yeah,
but it was like a couple of years ago when
COVID hit peak and no one can go out, and
they're kind of stuck at home, and they're like, what
(41:30):
can I do? Why don't we, you know, try to
turn this like comic book thing into video games? And
so they went to work, got all the people together,
got like minded people, got people who are interested in
doing various things, programming, writing, you know, and they got
to work.
Speaker 2 (41:50):
And I mean that is some sick animation.
Speaker 3 (41:54):
Yeah, and this is like an early bill too, Like
they are going to continue to refine this and you know,
make it better. They said that they're hoping to get
four chapters in by next year, and it will be
a four more chapters in I think by next year,
and about forty chapters when it's all set and done.
Speaker 2 (42:17):
Wo.
Speaker 3 (42:17):
The demo will be available soon. It is not yet available,
but it will be available soon. They say that, you know,
the interesting thing that they're trying to do with this game,
and this is the benefit of being able to talk
to the developers that they explain some of these things.
They haven't implemented this yet, but what they want to
do is setting some kind of sequencing system. So for example,
(42:40):
normal actions will earn certain kind of points that they're
going to call sp and this is going to be
like a shared pool resource. Right, So in a tactical setting,
you may decide to do like a weaker attack to
gain points and then let someone else do kind of
like a big finisher.
Speaker 2 (42:57):
Right. So I gotta just dripped for a second. The
fact that the characters can use Reaper's scythes instantly up
to the cool factory immediately. I love this, but but continue, Yeah, man, well,
Advan of the Reaper, right, you've got scythe Uh. Yeah,
so I'm I'm very excited about this because a lot
(43:18):
of tactical RPGs focuses on like individual people. And yes,
obviously there's some kind of synergy between where you place
pieces and stuff, but you know, having a share like
point pool that you have to really consider how you
are utilizing your pieces if you will, you know, because
I look at the chessboard right uh, and and your
(43:42):
characters to sort of maximize damage in the out in
like long run. Uh.
Speaker 3 (43:48):
That to me, uh feels pretty good, and I'm excited
to see how they're going to pull this off. The
game will bounce between two separate groups of people, uh
that there are two like you know, groups that are
kind of scene different sides of the conflict, which kind
of reminds me of a certain fire emblem, you know.
But they're planning to have that and then for them
(44:11):
to sort of like converge like somewhere down the line
so that you can have like a unified front somehow.
So here the Angels versus the Reapers, So I guess
that's like the two sides. We're looking at the Reapers
just now and here like the Angels.
Speaker 2 (44:25):
Yeah, that's pretty cool. Yeah. I love all the animations,
just beautifully done. You can tell. You can tell they
have some artists in church, very talented artists.
Speaker 3 (44:39):
I saw the game, I looked at it for a minute.
I'm like, do I want to talk to them about
this though? And I did, and I'm glad I did.
Speaker 2 (44:47):
Yeah, yeah, so this is really cool. All right. I
guess we can end the video because it's like a
whole five minute long thing unless you want to keep going. No,
I'm done, I positive.
Speaker 3 (45:02):
Sorry, Uh yeah, so, uh, we're looking forward to it.
They're hoping to come back to Magfast next year. Yeay
with a mob polished game. So I am looking forward
to trying it out next year.
Speaker 1 (45:14):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (45:15):
You know one thing that I I will say that
I am very disappointed is that, uh our friends, uh
you know something classic yeah, didn't come by this year.
Speaker 2 (45:29):
So how many how many Tylers did you run into?
Speaker 3 (45:33):
How many tiler did I complain to? More like, because
I'm like, hold on, is that tig you're telling me
you're not coming this year? So no, I don't blame them.
They're they're getting because none of them really only one
of them lives in the areas, so all of them
have to like fly in and they're kind of getting
like travel fatigue. So I get it, but I will
say I am very disappointed. I made sure I had
(45:56):
time to be there for them and QA and test
anything they want to play, anything they have for me.
And then I'm like, I'm ready. I got the rope boat.
I'm so excited, and I'm like, come on, Tie, so
where are you going to be? Like where are you
gonna set up the game? And Ty is like, yeah,
We're not coming this year. It's like, what, Yeah, not
(46:17):
this year. I'm like, of all the years you decided
not to come this year.
Speaker 2 (46:22):
On the bright side, I didn't go this year either.
I think that's why if I had gone, they would
have felt obligated. Yeah, but I obviously had the COVID,
so you know, I did everybody a favor by not going,
but it was it was good of everybody else to go.
Speaker 3 (46:35):
So well, you say that, then you know what that means, right, Derek?
That I had means that I have to drag YouTube
Macfest one next year so that they will show up.
Speaker 2 (46:47):
Yeah, I should probably give it a go. I should
just setting yourself up right now. Man.
Speaker 3 (46:51):
I know, I know I played myself, all right, No,
but I guarantee you have a good time. If I
anyone who's interested in Macfast in general, just like, like
I can tell you more about it. I I really
do like this convention. And no we're not sponsored. I'm
not sponsored to talk about Macfest, but it's just not
really cool convention.
Speaker 2 (47:11):
We could be sponsored Manfest. Come on. Lots of cool cosplayers,
by the way, lots of cool costplayers. Oh yeah, I forgot.
Speaker 3 (47:21):
Costplaying is huge game costplaying not like anime cosplay. Game costplays.
It's a lot.
Speaker 2 (47:27):
It's a lot of things. If you like, maybe I
should work on my aliviate cosplay, you know, just should
the hair growing out?
Speaker 3 (47:35):
Okay, So can I share a fun story about Okay,
I guess. So my friend and I on on the
last day of Macfest, we were coming in and then
we saw uh, this girl uh dressed up us the
main character of Little Goody two Shoes.
Speaker 2 (47:57):
I don't know. Yeah yeah, yeah, and you know, and
and not to you know.
Speaker 3 (48:04):
Not to be condescending in any way, but like it
is very relatively niche game, Like it's not like a
huge game that even within like our sphere, it's not
like super well known, right, It's not like a persona
you see, you know more Ghana.
Speaker 2 (48:19):
It's like, oh yeah, no, obviously that's P five. So
I was like, oh, this is super cool. So I
took a picture of it.
Speaker 3 (48:26):
I asked him for a picture, and then it turns
out that person was also my friend, and she had
a mask on, so I couldn't tell she had awake,
she had contacts, and she was wearing a mask.
Speaker 2 (48:38):
That was no way for me to tell.
Speaker 3 (48:39):
It's just like she was like, hey, wait a minute, spaka,
what the heck anywhere? That's not the that's not the
main part. But so we took a picture and then
I was asking my friend. I was like, hey, how
do you know about this game?
Speaker 2 (48:53):
Anyways?
Speaker 3 (48:53):
It is kind of niche and he's like, I was like,
did you play the game? He's like no, I'm like, then,
how the heck did you know about this? And he said, well,
I know the voice actor who played the character personally.
So I'm taking a picture to send it to her
right now. Yea, like, hey saw your cosplay. So that's
(49:16):
the kind of like serendipitous connection that you can expect
to find in Macfest. I met the guy who develops
Stanny's Parable. He never told me that he That's the
story that I like telling people. I was playing a
board game with the guy and he's just like, yeah, cool, Hey,
I'm going to this panel, so I'll see you at
that panel. Because I told HIMIM running off the panel
(49:36):
and he walked in. He got introduced like from the
host on stage. He's like, hey, welcome, I forgot his name.
Yeah you may na this the developers Stanley's Parable. I
was say, well play, sir, like you well played, but
you never know who you will meet at Macfest. Macfest
is the game conventions for the developers to enjoy. Definitely
(49:59):
check it out, all right, and rounding out the MAGFest coverage,
We've got this one game that maybe the thing that
I am most excited about because of how polished I
feel it is and how you know, how close I
feel like it is coming out, So got further ado.
(50:19):
It is an action and turn based RPG hybrid from
Chimera Labs called Other Her Loving Embrace.
Speaker 2 (50:27):
Let's take a look. Okay, let's check that out. I
don't know, you hyped it up a lot, Oh I
did you hype it responsibly? Though, that's the real thing.
Did you feel that was responsible? Yeah? Okay, Oh the
cool thing about this game, I mean.
Speaker 3 (50:43):
Never mind that it's got some really gorgeous pixel art.
You know, obviously there's some inspiration from you know, like
Zelda the inspiration class.
Speaker 2 (50:57):
Yep. But here's the thing.
Speaker 3 (50:59):
The way that it is a hybrid of turn based
and action is that your character goes into a turn
based situation and then you select a skill or an attack,
and then once you do that, you enter this battle
with action oriented and it will press a certain button
it becomes the skill. You see what I'm saying. Yeah,
(51:23):
and like anime attack you so you'll have like a
two second you have like a ten second window to
like accomplish your action battle.
Speaker 2 (51:31):
So, in that sense, it is a hybrid.
Speaker 3 (51:33):
It is turn based to choose who gets to go
what action, but then once a personal enemy goes into
the action, then it turns to a turn based sequence
I mean, not turn based sequence, action sequence.
Speaker 2 (51:47):
Yes, action game. I mean there's actually a game I
played that that also does this. It's been a hot
minute since I can't so I can't remember the name
of it. But this looks super polished. Yeah, right, more
varied even.
Speaker 3 (52:01):
Like wait a darn minute, like, wow, this game is
wild and that you never heard of it before. So
I say, these are the kind of things that you
get to discover. And not only that, I got to
talk to the developers, which I will tell you exactly
what happened.
Speaker 2 (52:19):
Dude. So music playing in the background right now, it's
such a vibe. It's such a throwback, like, oh it
feels it feels authentically ins and oh yeah.
Speaker 3 (52:31):
So the development actually started in twenty nineteen, and they
had lots of cool ideas about the battle mechanics, and
before they settle on this, they tried a lot of
different things, and unfortunately a lot of those things didn't
make it. But I, you know, I respect that they
tried and they see what work and what doesn't. But
(52:53):
the cool thing is because some of those mechanics just
like they just can't give it up. They end up
turning them to minigames into games. So you'll find little
mini games and you'll have to guess which one was
supposed to be part of their main battle mechanics. They're
just like, yeah, some of these things are fun, but
they drag out the battle and it's like it's not
practical at all, but it was so much fun.
Speaker 2 (53:20):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (53:20):
Absolutely. I had a chance to speak to their artists.
Actually his name is cam So, the you know, the
person responsible for all the wonderful visuals that we see. Yeah,
they were talking about how the lead developer was a
big fan of action games. Uh namely East Uh go
(53:40):
East East is a great action RPG for anyone who
hasn't tried and they want to try to make something
that you know, they've always wanted to play. And I
feel like that is a commonality between a lot of
the indie developers, you know, like they're like, yeah, I
want to make a game that I want to play,
or I want my you know, loved ones to play.
(54:03):
Remember we had a conversation what game was it? We
had a conversation with with a developer some time ago.
Uh I am just bad with names. No, that's Australia.
(54:26):
Uh it isn't now Shorts, isn't now Shorts?
Speaker 2 (54:30):
Was it David? It was David? It was maybe. Yes.
Speaker 3 (54:37):
It was like, oh, yeah, I wanted to make a
game for my daughter to play. That's so like, yeah,
so that's really cool stuff. Uh So I am really
looking forward to them completing this game. I think they
are saying that they should be able to release this
game towards the end of the year. The demo is old,
so if you're looking at their demo, they have made
(54:58):
a lot of changes, So maybe wait for their new
demo to really see what this game is about. And
they also told me that they'll be adding many playable characters.
So the two characters that we saw, like the Wizard
and like the Boy, those are also the two characters
that they had, you know, at the convention for people
(55:20):
to try.
Speaker 2 (55:21):
But he says, no, actually there are. There are gonna
be a couple more playable characters, unique skills and cool
in different scenes that play out as you select an
attack option. That's right.
Speaker 3 (55:32):
That's so Clow really looking forward to seeing that one
come out. And that basically rounds out my adventure at Macfest.
As far as the indie games are concerned, I mean,
there are a lot of other indie games I tried,
but not all of them are things that I feel
like the viewers may necessarily care about in our rem
(55:57):
But these are the RPGs that really, you know, got
my those.
Speaker 2 (56:03):
Beautiful You picked on some really awesome ones. Thank you.
Thank you for doing that Wayku. There were like forty
different like indie developers, all different.
Speaker 3 (56:12):
How do you pick just right? It's so hard. It's hard.
I walked in and I made my rounds. I looked
at all the games, I looked at what they're about.
I selected all the RPGs, I did all my interviews
with them, tested them out, and then I went and
played all the other games that I knew probably wouldn't
make it onto the show, but a fun and interesting nonetheless. Now,
(56:37):
of course, if you'd like that experience, come by to Macfest.
Speaker 2 (56:40):
You know, I'll show you around. Oh yeah, And not
not helping things at all is the fact that I'm
also just not able to do a two or three
or four hour show today. Oh yeah. Well now, well
next up, it's just mostly just watching things. So let's
just take a look at this Compo Hard twenty t
twenty five lineup, because this is the announceder that are
(57:05):
coming out this year, coming.
Speaker 3 (57:06):
Out this year, Okay, let's take a look. So some
some route breaking here. All of these games are for
the Japanese market only. Now why am I talking about
them still? Because Compound Heart has a strong track record
of bringing games to the West and internationally, so I
(57:29):
feel like we can still look at some of these
and just see what might be down the pipeline. The
first up, we've got this game called scar Led.
Speaker 2 (57:39):
Salvation. It is a three D third person action shooter.
Speaker 3 (57:44):
So you can see and I always feel like, you know,
this kind of game is just like you know, three
D action RPGs like Cousin, except instead of slashing things,
you're shooting things.
Speaker 2 (57:53):
Sure, yeah, so you know, by extension you might be
interested in that.
Speaker 1 (57:58):
Nick.
Speaker 3 (57:58):
This game right now is called tata Oh my god,
this is so hard. Total Tatakai, Callamity Angels. It is
an RPG that they're putting together, like a two D
RPG that they're putting together. It's not that like paper doll,
paper doll kind of cosmetic that you may not like,
but it could be very interesting still. And this is
(58:20):
a new RPG that's in development. It's coming out this
summer in Japan. We'll see when it comes out.
Speaker 2 (58:24):
Now, Oh, I know what this is. Oh, nephew, it's
gotta be Nepnap, right, it is Nepnap.
Speaker 3 (58:30):
It's well, but it's it's a spin off. It's called
Hyper Devotion nor Goddess black Heart. And it's not a
new game either.
Speaker 2 (58:38):
This game is actually already available on Steam and maybe
other platforms.
Speaker 3 (58:44):
They're only talking about this because they're finally having a switchboard.
Speaker 2 (58:48):
Yeah, you know soon.
Speaker 3 (58:49):
Very cool, so not as interesting. Uh, this one is
a new announcement. This new game is called Magical Librarian
Ariana The Book of Seven Heroes. It is a size
scrolling action RPG that's coming up for PS four or
five and the switch I mean, not a whole lot
is known. They just that's the small teaser. They're just
(59:12):
saying that, like this is coming, so more news to come.
Speaker 2 (59:14):
We'll follow that.
Speaker 3 (59:16):
H Last, but not least, there is a shoot him
up game that's also going to come out called Zealeste
over Seed in the very beginning Zealous. Yeah, so that's
that's just a shortened sweet Compole HERD twenty five lineup
that we can expect to see this.
Speaker 2 (59:35):
Yeah, so well that's pretty nice see that? Yeah? Yeah,
nice and nice and compact. It's like a little Nintendo
Direct for just Compile Heart exactly.
Speaker 3 (59:45):
So I'm like, you know what, we can just look
at this. I don't have to go into details with
all these things, and in fact I can't because this
yeah yeah, so it doesn't even warn any like further investigation,
at least not yet when you talk about it, like
for international release, will be sure to come back and
if they're any good, we'll definitely talk about it. While
(01:00:08):
on topics, since you talked about Neptunia, I don't know
why they didn't include anything. Maybe they weren't ready to
really include anything in this trailer or this like showcase lineup.
But they did say to Weekly Famitsu recently that the
next numbered Neptunia games, don't know, spin off like the
(01:00:29):
main game should be announced this year announce announced. Yeah,
that's the key word, is announced.
Speaker 2 (01:00:38):
This we're going to announce an announcement.
Speaker 3 (01:00:41):
Yeah yes, but it would be pretty huge because I
don't think they have done a mainline game, and this
is kind of like their flagship, So, like, you know,
I'm interested to see what kind of things don't bring.
I'm really hoping that they would get away from at
least some of the really tired jokes that you know
has been and they've been telling the same thing for
(01:01:01):
like the last like fifteen years. Like I'm like, all right,
I get it, you know, let's move on from some
of these and maybe introduce some like new gameplay because
it's always been like gameplay. Second, but Compound Heart's been
working hard in establishing itself as like a serious contender
for RPGs and not just we have wife fus. That's
(01:01:24):
still kind of like their bread and butter. But I
think that they can do more, and they demonstrated that
they can do more. Yeah, they're physicianing themselves for a
wife wos plus yes, so like Deafite Request is definitely
a wife fu. You can argue about the aesthetics and whatnot,
but what I don't think people can argue about is
the storytelling was absolutely incredible and the gameplay was decent,
(01:01:49):
but you know, it's certainly gotten better over the years,
even in an opportunity series has gotten better over the years,
and not just like a boring kind of like turn Base.
They really like switch things up at different more innovative
things to the turn based battle system. So looking forward
to seeing what they would do for the next mainline
Neptunia game. He yeah, all right, this next thing is
(01:02:13):
also just kind of a watch along only thing. I'm
not going to go into individual game, but this is
from the Playism Game show MENI.
Speaker 2 (01:02:21):
It is a mini game show.
Speaker 3 (01:02:24):
Similar thing, but there's there's like English version, and we'll
include that in the description. You want to watch it
yourself later, but let's go through it now. Okay, add
that to the Oh yeah, okay, okay, all right, let's
do that.
Speaker 2 (01:02:44):
Yes, Playism meet show MENI. All right, you can feel
afree to skip through it as needed. Here we're appropriate machine.
All right. So the first thing that we're looking at,
we've talked a little bit about this already, and this
is a fast paced mecca. Yeah, what was it called something? Breaker?
(01:03:07):
I wish that the name like somewhere in the corner
or something that would make sense. What it is?
Speaker 3 (01:03:13):
I cannot for the life did they just did they
just put three heads in that mecca?
Speaker 2 (01:03:21):
Just now? Maybe Cerberus break arts? There? We go, break
arts three guards three Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:03:28):
So if you like, you know, mecca games, you like
fast paced battles, and they also have like a racing thing,
so it's not just like.
Speaker 2 (01:03:38):
Battle.
Speaker 3 (01:03:38):
There's also like races in tracks and stuff that you
can race against your friends, so you can do like
a different build.
Speaker 2 (01:03:48):
This looks over the top fun. Oh yeah, this is
kind of Oh what is that other like running gun
game that, Oh it reminds me Metal Slug there you go. Yeah,
it's like a different kind of like metals, like yeah,
Nitro Strikers I think is what it was called this. Yeah,
this is what this game is called. Yeah, this is
cool direction, It's ridiculous, but I dig it. Express Yeah,
(01:04:14):
Steam in Spring. I love the fast paced actions. Man.
Speaker 3 (01:04:19):
So yeah, you guys like these running gun games. I
know I'll be playing this for sure. Night to Express, yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:04:26):
Or Express you awaken in a Android and then we've
got eaten something like. This is a corner of one
of those oh, like puzzle games, yeah, Puzzle an Object
or this world? What is the what is what is?
What is that series of game called like Professor Layton
(01:04:49):
Experience Narrative.
Speaker 3 (01:04:52):
You know, Yeah, this is called Eden's Schemata and it's
really it's coming out later this years. It's kind of
like a mystery deduction thing. But you also have to
do minigames, and you know, there's one that has like
a little bit of like a horror element to it
and you have to like escape zero Escape. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah,
(01:05:16):
it's kind of like a zero Escape kind of situations,
I think, but it's not like a clone, like it's
probably doing its own thing.
Speaker 2 (01:05:22):
And the art looks great. So this looks a lot
of people really great too.
Speaker 3 (01:05:28):
This game is actually already available of January eleventh, but
they're just showcasing this because it's coming to more platforms.
Speaker 2 (01:05:38):
Very cool. Yeah, So if.
Speaker 3 (01:05:39):
Anyone's interested in this game, particularly it's actually already out,
it's very pretty.
Speaker 2 (01:05:47):
Playism has a lot of.
Speaker 3 (01:05:50):
Interesting indies under their belt that they're publishing, and they're
kind of like an indie publishing powerhouse from Japan to
the to the West.
Speaker 2 (01:06:00):
So there you go.
Speaker 3 (01:06:00):
Switch PS five Xbox coming out in February six, so
in just a couple of days actually on February.
Speaker 2 (01:06:12):
Whose older sister is a member of the Like, all.
Speaker 3 (01:06:15):
These games look amazing, and I like, I just made
a post on Twitter today talking about like how I
like moving forward when I'm streaming, I'm going to focus
a lot more on indie games. Like I said it
last year and I tried it last year, but I'm
going to do it like even more now this year.
Speaker 2 (01:06:36):
Oh jeez, you're never going to catch up on Trails
at this rate. Then, yeah, I don't I don't think
I'm ever going to catch up on Trail. I'm almost there, man,
I'm almost there.
Speaker 3 (01:06:48):
The thing with me, see, Okay, I think I can
catch up on East. I don't think I catch the
on Trails, and I don't think I can do both. Like,
if I want to catch it on both, it will
literally consume my entire life.
Speaker 2 (01:06:59):
I know. It's like felt come at this point is
making games faster than they can be played.
Speaker 3 (01:07:03):
Yeah, it's I can't do it, There's no way. But
I will still catch up on all the East games.
I promise people that.
Speaker 2 (01:07:12):
But well, you can keep up on East, I'll keep
up on Trails, and together we can be a complete
Felcom fan.
Speaker 3 (01:07:17):
Yeah, one whole FELLCM fan, not with these Finke fans
that don't play both of these games.
Speaker 2 (01:07:26):
That's such a pretty game here. Yeah, I could never
probably pronounce it.
Speaker 3 (01:07:31):
But yeah, And that's the thing about like Playism that
I want to showcase. This is why I want to
showcase this, Like there is this company that's dedicated to
bringing like some of the best indies from Japan and
make it accessible to the international stage. You know, without
play as them these games, you may never see them
(01:07:52):
because they wouldn't have any way of being published or
translated or localized.
Speaker 2 (01:07:57):
Now I don't I'm not.
Speaker 3 (01:07:58):
I don't want to make it sound like they are obviously,
you know, such a great company and.
Speaker 2 (01:08:04):
The bottoms of their hearts.
Speaker 3 (01:08:05):
They're doing this as a service, right, they are bringing
a very useful service, and these games are pretty good.
I played a lot of players and games. I was
around when they first started publishing games like on Steam
and stuff, and they're just you know, doing more and
more things every year. So definitely something you want to
keep an eye on if you're interested in some of
(01:08:27):
these indies that you may again never otherwise never even
hear about them, because they would just be released in
Japan and then they're gone the next month and then
you know, just whatever. All right, So now, speaking of indies,
our next game and the only game that has nothing
to do with Macfest and nothing to do with you know,
(01:08:50):
any kind of showcase, is probably like the the most
anticipated indies. I'm pretty certain me saying this for a
lot of people, For a.
Speaker 2 (01:09:04):
Lot of people, Yeah, you gotta qualify that a little more. Yeah, yeah,
because because there's some really good looking ones too, but
oh geez, Yeah, but you know, like we talk about
indie developers like really blowing Triple A Studio out the water,
and a lot of them are like two d's because
and I argue with people this all the time, but
(01:09:25):
I'm like, look, a great two d arts is just
gonna cost less than great three d arts tier for tier,
like at the highest level, if you want to compete
with Triple A. This is an indie developer that basically says,
tell you what we can.
Speaker 3 (01:09:40):
Do Triple A in a way lower budget and way
faster and it's gonna blow your socks off. And the
game that we're talking about is called Clear Obscure Expedition
thirty three from the French indie developer sand Fall Interactive.
They now have a launch day. Yes really yeah, that's
(01:10:01):
the launch date and it's not that far from now.
It's like a long trailer just to refresh people's memories
of this, you know, game that we're so praising and
hyping close to irresponsible.
Speaker 2 (01:10:14):
I've been having that miss just a little bit. Do
you guys remember this? Yeah? I do. Wow, man, it's
pretty nuts that they were able to make this. Oh geez.
Speaker 3 (01:10:33):
And you know, like here's the thing, like just watching
this is already like super impressive, but like seeing the battle,
like the oh god, like the environment, the.
Speaker 2 (01:10:50):
Battle breaking all of the rules of of indie RPGs here, yeah,
oh my god, quick crime, what the heck man? Mid battle?
Speaker 3 (01:10:59):
Quick time actions, that's one way of making sure you're
stay awake, that's true.
Speaker 2 (01:11:08):
Oh my god, it's so pretty.
Speaker 1 (01:11:10):
I know.
Speaker 3 (01:11:12):
This is an indie game, guys, I can't stress this enough.
You know, Concord costs four hundred million dollars? How many games?
How many of these could they have made? I wonder,
you know, was apposite oranges? But come on, investments, investments,
(01:11:33):
you know, help Like at the end of the day,
there's there's alternative costs, right us in like, well, we
know we lost like one hundred million dollars, but what
could we have done with this one hundred million dollars?
Speaker 2 (01:11:47):
And you go down the rabbit hole of what the
alternative costs developing? Oh god, this is mindbreaking, amazing. The
battle is again, these scenes are great, but when you
look at the battle, it is just what, like how
(01:12:08):
how does one develop that? Like is it being independently
funded by just like a single like multi millionaire who's
just like, sure I have I have something to throw
at this pet project. Technically it's end, you know how,
I wouldn't doubt it because I mean that's definitely takes
(01:12:30):
some some very talented and skilled people. Be Like, it
might not be like an individual millionaire pet project. It's
probably more likely like a bigger studio that wants to
do like in April twenty four. Yeah, and you know,
they will provide a resource and connection, but nothing else, right, Yeah,
(01:12:52):
And that is one way that big companies stay innovative,
and in practice, lots of big companies actually do it.
You may not realize that there's a small brand that
has the really polished product was actually a subsidiary of
a much bigger company, but you wouldn't know it because
they don't advertise it. Yeah, you know, think of it
(01:13:12):
another way. Clear Obscurity didn't have to do a Kickstarter,
Oh they didn't. It's funded by one guy who really
like f F seven. It is actually funded by one
guy who really f seven. Geez. This is what I
would do if I just like suddenly became wealthy beyond
needing like you know, day to day, like am I
gonna be able to have food today? Like like, once
(01:13:35):
I'm beyond that point, I'm like, all right, time to
fund all of the cool RPGs. I'm so glad that
there's some guy out there in France live in that life.
You know what that is called? Right? Philanthropy?
Speaker 3 (01:13:47):
Heroism In other words, well, when when it's used for
good but just in general, uh, this is called fu money.
Speaker 2 (01:13:57):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:13:58):
Yeah, when you can throw money at people and just
be like, yeah, f you here a million dollars and
I'm not even it's pocket change.
Speaker 2 (01:14:07):
That's that's the fu money. Yeah, so I love it.
Speaker 3 (01:14:12):
Now, when it's used for goods, then it is absolutely philanthropy.
It's just in this case, it's the game is selling
for forty ninety nine.
Speaker 2 (01:14:20):
I know, they're not even selling it for like sixty
or seventy. I know. Meanwhile, people are like, meanwhile, people
are like, I hope final, I hope GTA six sells
for one hundred dollars so we can start. It's like, no, guys,
that's I mean, not to rehash old arguments, but like, yeah,
here's the thing. Once upon a time, games used to
(01:14:43):
sell for the equivalent of one hundred US dollars. But
when those things happened, the games were complete, they were
on a disc, and uh, they were pretty much done.
They were complete pieces of art at that point. And
then they were releasing You're done, and that's that. It's
the end of the transaction. There's no putting the genie
back in the bottle at this point with micro transactions
(01:15:06):
and DLC and day one like all this crap. So anyways,
all that to say this, this is a perfect counterpoint
to all those people who are like, well, you know,
they need to sell GTA six for you know, one
hundred dollars because because it's making us all look bad.
(01:15:29):
It's like, well, on the other hand, they're making you
look bad because you can't do this for fifty So yeah, man,
pretty crazy.
Speaker 3 (01:15:39):
Development costs goes up in some area, but development costs
also goes down in some area, you know, And that's
the reality. So if you choose to not you know,
do things more efficiently, then you are engaging in just
bad like development.
Speaker 2 (01:15:59):
Or is practice.
Speaker 3 (01:16:00):
Then that's on you, right, And you can't just transfer
that cost over to the consumer. That's like not you know,
consumer friendly.
Speaker 2 (01:16:09):
Right.
Speaker 3 (01:16:09):
So that's that's what it is at the end of
the day. Now, the reason why we're talking about this
game again. Other than the fact that we just want
an excuse to geek out over it, it's the fact
that they have a release date and that day is
April twenty fifth.
Speaker 2 (01:16:25):
I did say that it wasn't going to be that
far away. It's only like three months from now, not
even by months, two months, two months just about. Well,
it's just over two d of April, so true. But
February is a very short month, so that's true. That's true.
So yeah, like two short months in a full month,
you're there, So it's too much math, I am. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:16:52):
Now, this game is going to be on PS five,
Xbox Series, and PC, so pick your poison and get
the game. I will be getting on probably PS five
if they have a physical, but PC if they don't
have a physical.
Speaker 2 (01:17:07):
Oh yeah, didn't they have a collector's edition that has
sold out already? I don't know. I think I remember.
I don't quote me on this because I'm just I
think I vaguely remember this, but I also have COVID brain.
But I'm pretty sure that the people behind it were like, Wow,
we didn't expect to have this much demand for physical release.
(01:17:29):
Oh boy. Well, speaking of limited edition, chain ago.
Speaker 3 (01:17:34):
Oh oh no, oh no, I made a mistake. I
made a mistake. I'm so sorry, Derek. I'm gonna have
to keep you on for just a little longer. Okay,
I completely forgot about.
Speaker 2 (01:17:47):
Oh geez, what did you? What did Baku do?
Speaker 3 (01:17:52):
I made a note to myself to talk about this,
and I completely forgot about it. I need you to
add one more video up for us, but I promise
you would be worth it.
Speaker 2 (01:18:04):
Okay, all right, okay, all right, let's just yeah, we were.
We were so close to moving to industry news. But no,
I have to talk about this. Okay. Should I just
play the video? Just play this video? Okay, Let's let
the people see this. It speaks for itself when you
(01:18:36):
look at that.
Speaker 3 (01:18:38):
Wow chase echoes, d LC chain echoes, ashes of l
w Rens.
Speaker 2 (01:18:46):
New story, new areas, new enemies, new INNI game, new music. Damn.
How did I almost forget to talk about this? How insane?
Oh man, you you nearly caused a riot. I'm sure
you were. They'd be like super Derek talks about the
Sea of stars, but not chained echoes. Let Derek sleep never,
(01:19:10):
He's never sleeping, not now. After hearing that geez.
Speaker 3 (01:19:16):
Yeah, one of the speaking of indie RPG darlings, Jane
Echoes with his own DLC expansion coming.
Speaker 2 (01:19:27):
Ah, that's cool.
Speaker 3 (01:19:30):
You know how I remember this all of a sudden
becacause you mentioned the physical release of Uh yeah, you
were talking about limited edition, and I'm like, speaking a
limited edition, I still haven't gotten my Chain Echoes limited
edition and I still have no idea when that's coming.
And speaking of Chain Echoes, here's the new DFC that
they announced and I forgot to talk about it.
Speaker 2 (01:19:48):
Wow, oh geez, how much money?
Speaker 1 (01:19:52):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (01:19:52):
I don't They haven't said. So this is slated for
Q two of this year, so won't be long until
this expansion. It's not just like tiny DLC, it's the
whole expansion to the game. I don't know when it
will come out exactly, but the time window is sometime
in the second quarter of this year, so which we're
(01:20:14):
about to enter the second quarter, right, Okay, yeah, so
April and April to June, it's like the second quarter. Yeah,
sometime between April and June, providing that they don't you know, delay. Yeah,
this is phenomenal and it's going to be available for
(01:20:35):
basically all the supported platforms the PS four, PS five,
Xbox One, Xbox Series Switch, and PC on Steam. So
wherever you got the game, right, expect to get this expansion.
Which is the problem for me is because and you
can't play originally yet.
Speaker 2 (01:20:51):
Well no I can.
Speaker 3 (01:20:53):
And here's the thing, right, So the creator of the game, okay,
he decided to do the right thing thing, and that
is that he had authorized anyone who bought the limited
edition to get a free Steam key. And I just
really want to command like that the creators one person
like development team. I mean, they've gotten help from people,
(01:21:18):
from things and that, but really it's just it's just
Matia's Linda that that's the person's name, and that's it.
Like and and so they gave the key out for
anyone who has not received the physical yet and I
still have not, and neither as Derek and a lot
of other people. So we would otherwise have not be
able to play it. But here's the dilemma, is that
(01:21:42):
where do I get the DLC for because I now
have it on Steam and I got the I think
PS four version, Like, where am I buying my DSc
Maybe I'll buy it twice?
Speaker 2 (01:21:54):
I don't know. Yeah. The last update on their blog
on First Press Games webs on December sixteen, there are
cartridges for Chain dechos for Switch have arrived. That's all
we know, so at least we know that they've been manufactured,
(01:22:16):
so by the time that they come out Nintendo switches still,
I mean, we don't have to worry about them like
not making switch cartridges anymore. It'll still work on the switch.
Speaker 3 (01:22:26):
To Look, my point of saying all this is not
really just like to crap on you know, the limited edition,
even though it is a crappy situation, but really to
also remind people that Chain Egles is developed by really
mainly by one person and is an incredible game, and
they're doing everything they can to do all the right things.
(01:22:48):
So like just shout out to you know that the creator,
like they're trying their best. All right, now, that really
concludes all of our games. I'm so sorry, Dereh. I
kept you up for it just a little bit. Hopefully
that was worth it though, like oh yeah, blc, yeah,
that is very exciting.
Speaker 2 (01:23:08):
All right.
Speaker 3 (01:23:08):
We only have one piece of industry news that I
would like to share with you all this evening, and
that is the Tokyo Indie Game Summit twenty twenty five
is coming very soon. It will be here about a
month from now, from March eight to March ninth in Tokyo.
If you can be there for it, definitely try and go.
(01:23:29):
But if you can't be there for it, you can
watch it on YouTube. And if you don't want to
watch it on YouTube, well, you can be sure that
I will be watching the entire thing and then summarizing
anything interesting for you to know about, because I think
we've seen some really cool indie games from the Summit
previous years and we've talked about it, and they turn
(01:23:51):
out to be amazing games once they get published and whatnot.
Speaker 2 (01:23:55):
This is no exception.
Speaker 3 (01:23:56):
So we'll be sure to fall up on this and
all these other indie games and all these other uh
you know games and like Compound Hard and stuff that
may or may not get it into national release. You
can be sure that we will fall up on those,
and when day irrelevant, we'll be sure to bring up
up again on hit point.
Speaker 2 (01:24:19):
And that wraps up the day. Well.
Speaker 3 (01:24:22):
The link for the Tokyo Game Show a Game Summit,
not Game Show, Tokyo Indie Games Summing will be in
the description.
Speaker 2 (01:24:27):
So yeah, you can check it out there. All right.
So that brings us to uh some super chats that
we received throughout today's show. So we'll go ahead and
wrap these up real quick. Uh go bro, dude, man, Bro,
can you guess what he said? Oh? No, could you?
He says, say it out loud? He says, I love
(01:24:49):
say louder. No, he says, I love you Baku in
all caps. It's all caps. Love you to Bro. All right,
Thank you so much. From Anthony h. They say, appreciate
you guys coming out tonight. You both rock. Well, thank
you very much. It's you rock. It's it's very rock.
It's good to be back. But I am I am
(01:25:09):
definitely tired. Uh let's see. Uh. Next up from Young
Young game game guide books worth owning? What's what's the
expensive one? You've got the most expensive guide book? I
honestly don't know. I I collect very opportunistically. I don't
actually go out and seek guide books, and I have
(01:25:32):
no idea what the market even looks like on those.
But but I think that what I if I had
to guess, the guidebook that I have that is probably
most expensive, is going to be like the Twilight Princess hardback,
the the thick it's a thick art book. Also, I
think it's it's really nice. It's got the foil cover
(01:25:55):
with like, oh yeah. I think that's probably probably the
most collecting, you know what I mean. There's value, but
then there's also value, but that's also probably pretty common,
one of the least common ones. I have two very
uncommon guide books that might fetch a pretty penny, one
(01:26:16):
of which is for Lunar Silver Star Story Complete uh
the official Strategy Guide from Working Designs, as well as
Dragon Quest four for the ne e s or Dragon
Warrior for for the ne E S. I think I
think that those are probably my my least uh least
(01:26:39):
common guidebooks at this point. I don't have any, how
dare you, sir? Not a single one. I had a.
Speaker 3 (01:26:50):
I had a final fantasy one way back, but I
didn't ever and you know, ever imagine that guide books
been to guy books would be worth anything. So I
didn't treat it very kindly.
Speaker 2 (01:27:05):
I take it back. I take it back because there
is one other strategy guide that I do have that
that's also very rare, and I also happen to know
that it is worth at least a few hundred dollars
at this point. Last I saw it was worth a three.
That's the guidebook that was in fact included with earth Bound.
(01:27:28):
Oh with the scratch and sniff stickers and all that stuff,
would do it? Oh boy, yeah, no, that that there
you go? Yeah, yeah, that's it. That's got to be it.
Thank you so much for writing to us. Yeah, and
then Eagle Knight also mentioned here that Missus Eagle just
shook her head at don't do fraud. That's right, guys,
(01:27:53):
don't do fraud. You don't want Missus Eagle to shake
her head at you. Don't do a fraud. Don't do it.
And with that, with that, now you know, and knowing
is half the battle. I think that that about does
it for tonight's show. Thank you all so much for
(01:28:14):
hanging out with us tonight. This has been a pleasure.
I hope that I was able to power through this
with the energy befitting of such a grandiose show. Some awesome,
awesome RPGs. Thank you huge thanks to all of the
Indian developers for showing up at MAGFest. That was awesome
that you all took the time to hang out with
our lonely and weary wanderer bakusanj RPG. You know he's
(01:28:38):
very lonely when he's out there at the insurrounded my people.
Taking the time to just, you know, give him a
place to exist for a few minutes. It's so nice
of you.
Speaker 3 (01:28:47):
They they answer to my many curiosity about their games.
They entertain my silly questions like couldn't you just tell?
It's like, I guess I'll answer you. You should have
seen to look on their face and how.
Speaker 2 (01:29:02):
Just weary they are. As soon as I walked up
to here we go again. I know this guy and
this freaking guy, this freaking guy. If you guys enjoyed
today's show, be sure to drop a like on it.
It super helps. And if you listen to the podcast
on other platforms, hey give it a thumbs up or
(01:29:22):
a or a review maybe if you think it might
be worth your time. We very much appreciate it helps
us extend our reach to eventually take over the world
and make j RPGs of our own. Anyways, have great night, everybody, bye.
Speaker 1 (01:30:02):
Say sat Agains.
