Speaker 1 (00:04):
Hello and welcome to another season of HPC Kids.
As last season ended, weexperienced some change and as
this season goes on, there willbe some more change along the
way.
With all that aside, we'reexcited to have you join us for
another season of HPC Kids.
As you meet some new charactersand some old, please enjoy.

Speaker 2 (00:26):
Dietrich, I need some support.
I'm sure you've seen thefinance sheet.

Speaker 3 (00:31):
Yes, Caspian, I have.
It will be fine, the work willbe fine and you will be fine.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
Since Sim's getting ready to resign, we've had no
jobs.
We can't fund missions withmoney we don't have.
Can I get some relief fromA-Man?

Speaker 3 (00:46):
Yes and no, we have enough.
But there are some otherfrustrations in the way.

Speaker 2 (00:53):
I understand if you're stretched thin, but
another couple weeks I didn'tsend you to Mantle to give up.

Speaker 3 (00:58):
I know that's not what you want either.
Approach this from a differentangle.
How many people work at thecenter?

Speaker 2 (01:04):
Four Me, clara Otto and the Hargrove crew approach
this from a different angle.
How many people work at thecenter for me, clara Otto and
the Hargrove Crib?

Speaker 3 (01:09):
only four, that's all right where there are two or
three right thank you, and Iknow that's true, but it's not
easy I never said it was butit'll work out and what about
the financial issue?

Speaker 2 (01:22):
What's your advice?

Speaker 4 (01:27):
Oh, come on, that was my favorite mug.
Otto, is that you?

Speaker 2 (01:32):
Unfortunately.
Let me get the flashlight.
Do you have any idea whathappened?

Speaker 4 (01:39):
No clue, I guess let me call Mansoul Power.

Speaker 2 (01:43):
Weird.
Nobody else's power is out Huh.

Speaker 4 (01:48):
We sent it on time.
Well, it was a bit late, butyes, ma'am, I understand that
you, you didn't get it.
You didn't get anything.
Okay, what did they say?
Our power payment.

Speaker 2 (02:02):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (02:04):
They didn't get it.
I sent it off last week.
That's a couple hundred downthe drain.
I'll see what I can scrounge upto send them.
I'll call you later.

Speaker 2 (02:18):
God, there's nothing more I can do.
You sent me here, gave me thischance to fund missions and help
this community, and noweverything's falling apart.
That snowstorm a couple ofyears ago gave us a good
reputation, but this placedoesn't develop or build.
There's no use for us here, atleast to them.
Sam advocated for us when hewas around, gave us work, but

(02:42):
life has taken him to adifferent stage and so we've
been left in a hard place.
You know, I know you haven'tleft, but that's how it feels.
Dietrich can't help me.
A-man, the Foundation, I mean,can't or won't help me.
What more is there for me to do?
I can't make something fromnothing.

(03:02):
Hello, yes, Is this the AmmanCenter?
Yes, sir, it is.

Speaker 3 (03:11):
I'd like to hire you.
I don't know if the job will bein your wheelhouse, but I'd
rather have you do it thanaccompany with an agenda.

Speaker 2 (03:19):
Okay, what would you like us to do?
We have to go to the prison.

Speaker 3 (03:23):
tomorrow, a man will be let out on parole.
That day, perch him andconvince him to join your
operation.

Speaker 2 (03:29):
Why?
Who is this?

Speaker 3 (03:31):
Have a man and I will be in touch For his sake.
1 Timothy 5.8.

Speaker 2 (03:39):
I'm not just gonna do that.
What have you been talkingabout?
I can't make something fromnothing.

Speaker 4 (03:57):
Let me get this straight.
We're hiring a convicted felonfrom the jail parking lot
because of a random tip.

Speaker 2 (04:04):
Once I figure out who he is.

Speaker 4 (04:06):
You don't even know who he is.
Sure, great, wonderful it is,it'll work out.
I'm Great, wonderful it is,it'll work out.
I'm serious.
That's the problem.
A lack of options doesn't meanwe choose the wrong one.

Speaker 2 (04:16):
All right, otto, what would you do?

Speaker 4 (04:19):
Well, let me think, yeah, If we, why don't we just
hire some more of the teenagersfrom the high school?

Speaker 2 (04:26):
Would you want to work at a place that barely
keeps the power on and has fourstaff members?

Speaker 4 (04:32):
Yeah, when you put it that way, I guess there are
better job options.
I know you're worried, but Iprayed about this.
It'll be fine.
I'm praying too, trust me.
I mean, don't get me wrong, Itrust you, but God also designed
man with common sense.

Speaker 2 (04:48):
Common sense is only that common.
Sometimes you need a rarersense on things.

Speaker 4 (04:54):
I mean, yeah, but we need to plan this out a bit more
.
I mean, who's this guy inquestion has any interest
working with us?
Did you clear this withDietrich?
Uh no, they're going to fireyou or me.
I cleared this with.

Speaker 2 (05:07):
God.
That's what's most important.
Plus, there's nothing in thecontract agreement saying we
can't hire a convicted felon.
I mean, having someone who'sout of prison in the workplace
also gives us a better image.
It shows the effectiveness ofsalvation.
We don't even know if he issaved.
We can pick this up later.
He'll be gone if we wait toolong.

Speaker 1 (05:33):
That's him.

Speaker 4 (05:35):
Uh, I don't think he's a good look for the mission
.
A shaved head isn't that bad.
I'm not talking about theshaved head.
I mean, look at him, he looksfelonious.
The next nursing home we visitis going to be mortified, I'm
sure they deal with worse.

Speaker 2 (05:49):
We'll just have to have him wear a dress shirt and
it'll be fine.

Speaker 5 (05:53):
You do know I can see you right.
I think he sees us, Uh-huh.

Speaker 2 (05:59):
Sorry about that, first impressions and all.
Anyway, would you like to jointhe Amen Foundation?
I promise you'll be well why?

Speaker 5 (06:09):
Is this some sort of charity, trying to take
advantage of my limited options,or something?

Speaker 4 (06:13):
Well, it's actually the inverse, when you think
about it.

Speaker 5 (06:16):
Okay, so you're hard up for volunteers, so you're
just going to hire me right offthe parking lot.

Speaker 2 (06:25):
Well, I mean you need to start building some social
credit in life.
I promise we'll treat youfairly and you'll be compensated
pretty well.

Speaker 4 (06:35):
With what money Let me handle this.

Speaker 5 (06:37):
Look, look, look.
Don't tell me what I need to do.
I've had enough of that for alifetime.
Let's just walk for a bit.

(07:01):
You haven't really introducedyourself.
I expected a business card orsomething.

Speaker 2 (07:05):
Oh, I'm so sorry, you started us before and I
completely forgot my name's,caspian Moore.

Speaker 5 (07:12):
Ooh, pretty upper class you some sort of
aristocrat or something.

Speaker 2 (07:16):
Not at all.
What gave you that idea?

Speaker 5 (07:19):
The way you carry yourself with the whole manners
thing and the formal speech.

Speaker 2 (07:25):
Well, I just think that manners and etiquette are
important.

Speaker 5 (07:28):
Well, everybody has their thing, I guess.
Uh, Oswald Nicholson.

Speaker 4 (07:33):
You thought Caspian's name was fancy.

Speaker 5 (07:35):
Do I look high class to you?
Eh no, Then I don't know whyyou'd ask such a question.

Speaker 4 (07:40):
So what'd you go away for, Otto?
That's not an appropriate thingto ask.
It's part of the hiring process, something you clearly don't
understand.

Speaker 5 (07:51):
Okay, well, you know this is kind of interesting to
me.
Okay, let's see Conspiracy tosteal software, malicious intent
to use said software, attemptedburglary, identity theft, plus
some other minor charges youdon't really need to know about.
Uh ooh, coffee man, it's been awhile since I've been in this
place.
It really is one of myfavorites.

Speaker 2 (08:10):
How long is a while?

Speaker 5 (08:12):
About five years.
Could have been way longer,though.

Speaker 2 (08:16):
Anything in particular you'd like.

Speaker 5 (08:18):
Sure, I'll let you manipulate me.
Just a venti will be fine.
I'll add the rest myself.

Speaker 4 (08:23):
So how are you so young and getting out?

Speaker 5 (08:27):
I mean I made friends with a guard, oxendine, who
eventually became warden Put ina good word for me along with
some convenient outside help.

Speaker 2 (08:36):
Like what.
So do you have any questionsabout the foundation?

Speaker 5 (08:40):
No, I've decided to join, why?
I mean, I looked it up whileyou were talking Some sort of
missionary program.
Supposed to be that on paper,at least.
Ooh, thanks for the coffee.

Speaker 2 (08:51):
Well, if you simplify , sure, we are a missionary
program, but we're more thanjust that.

Speaker 5 (08:58):
Okay, look, I need a job.
You sound legit, at least to me, so sure I'll join.

Speaker 4 (09:02):
Huh, well, uh, it's good to know there are still
some good-ish folks around whowant to help.

Speaker 5 (09:09):
Uh-huh, look, I'm not all jazzed about the religion
business.
I like money, that, and I thinkthat the Bible is a solid guide
to your life and helped me getout of prison.
So to keep other people out,I'll play along with this thing
for now.
Got it.
Guess there's always a catch.

Speaker 2 (09:27):
Speaking of money, I told you you'll be compensated.

Speaker 5 (09:30):
Pretty vague man.
I like specificity in businessdealings.

Speaker 4 (09:34):
Well, it's humanitarian work.
You can't expect to be paid anymore than minimum wage if that.

Speaker 5 (09:39):
Oh, I can expect quite a lot.

Speaker 4 (09:42):
You won't be getting it.

Speaker 5 (09:43):
When's the soonest you can work?
I don't exactly have a place tolive, so if you're offering
housing, I can work immediately.

Speaker 2 (09:53):
Great, I'll get you squared away as soon as we get
back.

Speaker 5 (09:56):
You didn't tell me there wasn't any power.
Well, we didn't tell you therewould be power.

Speaker 4 (10:02):
There should be Typical power company.
I'll give them a piece of mymind.

Speaker 5 (10:10):
Oh, a blown transformer, that might be your
problem.

Speaker 4 (10:13):
Oh yeah, definitely Looks real bad, doesn't it?
I'm gonna go call him again.

Speaker 2 (10:18):
At least we don't have to pay for it this time.

Speaker 5 (10:20):
So this has happened more than once.

Speaker 2 (10:23):
Yeah, it's been a whole ordeal, but we'll get
everything squared awayeventually.

Speaker 5 (10:28):
You're oddly optimistic for somebody with no
money.
Speaking of, why are you evenso hard up for cash?

Speaker 2 (10:36):
You thought that missionary work would be a
stable business venture.

Speaker 5 (10:40):
Well, I mean it said humanitarian efforts on the
website.
I assume people hired you out.

Speaker 2 (10:46):
Yeah, in larger cities, but this is the middle
of nowhere.
The only person who hired usconsistently was Pastor Sim, but
since he retired it's been hard.
Nothing good or bad happens inthis town.

Speaker 5 (10:59):
Well, I'm sure with a business like this Fist, you
count on disaster and such tobring in money.
I don't want that to happen.
Yeah, you do.
That's how everything comes toyou in a stint like this.
I mean, you've made your jobaround others' suffering.
I mean, look at me, youcornered me as soon as I came
out of prison and shoved yourreligious altruism down my
throat.
You capitalized off mymisfortune.

(11:20):
It's just how business is.

Speaker 2 (11:21):
I help people.
I don't want to have to helpthem or want misfortune or any
other sort of tragedy to strikethem, you'd be richer than you
are right now.

Speaker 5 (11:31):
Though, why not move to a city with more problems, a
bigger city where more happens, because I trust God will help us
through this.
You're a piece of work, but Irespect conviction, even if it
makes no sense.
What do you mean?
I've got a cousin goes tochurch and all that and says
she's Christian but doesn't actlike it at all.

(11:51):
I've never had the guts to lielike that and I've lied about a
lot of stuff.
I know I'm not right accordingto what the Bible says and I
don't think I ever will be.
Just can't bring myself to stopbeing me, you know.
Regardless, I respect youbecause you really care, you
really live it.
You're not two-faced and that'simpressive.

Speaker 2 (12:12):
Thank you, but you can stop being yourself.
You can live this way too.

Speaker 5 (12:18):
Okay, don't start preaching.
I'm not here for all that.
I'm here to work.

Speaker 2 (12:21):
Wait, so you have decided to join.

Speaker 5 (12:24):
I probably won't have a more honest or fair boss
anywhere else.
Plus I really don't haveanywhere else to go, despite my
playing hard to get.
Then it's settled.

Speaker 2 (12:33):
Welcome to the team.

Speaker 3 (12:34):
Whoa.

Speaker 2 (12:35):
Okay, alright, I'm going in.

Speaker 5 (12:37):
Are you going in?
Yeah, sure, why not?
I'll go in.

Speaker 2 (12:42):
Well, other than the minor problems with the power, I
think we've got a pretty goodsetup here.

Speaker 5 (12:47):
It looks like a mostly vacant two-story building
to me, but to each their own,it's potential, it's what I'm
looking forward to.
Great Good to know that my newcareer runs on hopes and dreams.
Oh, what's the verdict, Otto?

Speaker 4 (13:02):
So they can't fix the transformer at the moment
because of a holdup.
There have been so manyblowouts, the electricians are
thin, but we do have anopportunity to provide lunch for
them.

Speaker 2 (13:11):
Finally, are they providing the funds for the food
too?

Speaker 4 (13:14):
Uh yeah, we're just the labor part of it.

Speaker 2 (13:16):
Wonderful.
I'll start the van now andwe'll head out.

Speaker 5 (13:19):
Never thought I'd be working in fast food again.

Speaker 4 (13:22):
Do you have to find something wrong with everything?

Speaker 5 (13:26):
Most things have something wrong with them.
It's not my fault.
They exist.

Speaker 4 (13:28):
You can control what you say.

Speaker 5 (13:29):
I can, and I'd rather be realistic than some fanciful
frolicking fairy riding therainbows of life.

Speaker 4 (13:36):
I'm not talking about nonsense.
There's a time and place toshow pragmatism.
It's better for us to take thisjob and do something than sit
around and complain about howsomething should be done.

Speaker 5 (13:46):
Eh to each their own.

Speaker 4 (13:48):
That's not how the world works.

Speaker 5 (13:49):
I have the freedom to express myself how I would like
to.
This is a free nation for now,and I have the right to my
opinion, oh great.
You're one of those people.
Please elaborate.
It'll determine whether or notI get angry.

Speaker 4 (14:01):
Someone who thinks everything's subjective and what
the world is supposed to bendaround, all your wants.

Speaker 5 (14:07):
Oh, not at all, that's silly.

Speaker 4 (14:08):
Then what are you even talking about?

Speaker 5 (14:10):
I have free will, I'm using it.
You should too.
Everyone.

Speaker 4 (14:14):
He's coming back.
Let's at least act like wetolerate each other.

Speaker 5 (14:17):
See, you're proving my point, you're bending to him.

Speaker 2 (14:20):
All right, I've got the van ready whenever you guys
are.
Thanks.

Speaker 4 (14:24):
Anyway, Nicholson, I'm so excited to be able to
help the community with thiscatering job.

Speaker 5 (14:30):
It's not really that much of a job.
It's not that great of abusiness venture.

Speaker 2 (14:34):
Well, regardless, this is a good thing.
We have an opportunity to showour usefulness to the community.

Speaker 5 (14:41):
All right, money is money I got you.

Speaker 2 (14:43):
Great, let's get to it.
Then we're going to have tocall someone in to cater for us.

Speaker 1 (14:54):
Well, this was definitely not what Caspian or
Otto especially Otto wasexpecting.
Life definitely brings changesthat we may or may not like, but
as Caspian is trying to hold onto his optimistic faith, we
will find out the outcome ofthese roller coaster events to
what was a quiet and seeminglyuneventful time for the A-Man
