Nothing comes easy, and that seems to be the everyday experience for the group.  As Caspian tries to lead and the others try to get along with each other, we see once again that it isn't easy to trust.  However, as the group moves from one task to another, they should begin to see that God is still at work, and to trust in each other is the only way to make it.  Thank you once again for listening to another episode of HBC Kidz.  Hope you enjoy and have a great day.

Speaker 1 (00:07):
Hello and welcome to another episode of HPC Kids.
Join us as we tag along withCaspian and the crew, as Caspian
tries to keep a hopeful spiritwhile Otto and Nicholson try to
hash out a forced relationship.
As they try to find work andstay afloat financially, we'll
find that others have to learnto trust them as well.
So let's see what happens asthey carry along their merry way

(00:29):
.

Speaker 2 (00:50):
Man, this coffee is nearly as bad as my mattress.

Speaker 3 (00:53):
Well, for being somebody who just came from
prison, I would expect you to bea little more grateful.

Speaker 2 (00:57):
Well, yeah, but I didn't expect prison to be the
standard for my expectations.
Still, I guess I have to takewhat I can get for now.

Speaker 4 (01:06):
Good morning everybody.
What's with the good mood?
I'm usually in a good mood,aren't I Not lately?
Well, today I am.
I just got off the phone with aman named George Wilson.
He said he has a job for us.

Speaker 3 (01:18):
It's about time.
I've been losing my mindhanding out this food I need
some real work for once.

Speaker 2 (01:24):
So what kind of job is it?

Speaker 4 (01:25):
Well, mr Wilson told me that he owns a farm near the
edge of town.
He's had an idea to devote aplot of land for people who are
struggling financially.
He said he'll allow a fewfamilies to use the plot to grow
food for themselves or to selland he'd teach them how to plant
and maintain the garden.
The only problem is that theplot he wants to use is
overgrown and he doesn't havetime to clear it himself.

(01:47):
That's where we come in.
He wants us to clear the plotfor him.

Speaker 2 (01:51):
Great, you know, manual labor is not exactly the
kind of work I'm used to.
You know, if you can't tell oh,I'm sorry.

Speaker 3 (01:57):
We don't have any jobs in espionage or burglary
for you to do.

Speaker 4 (02:01):
Otto, that was uncalled for.

Speaker 3 (02:03):
Sorry, nicholson, I shouldn't have said that
Sometimes my mouth speaks beforemy brain has a chance to think.

Speaker 4 (02:10):
Especially in the morning.

Speaker 2 (02:12):
Whatever, let's just get started.

Speaker 4 (02:21):
Alright, looks like we're here.
This is the farm.

Speaker 3 (02:24):
Is that the guy we're supposed to be working for?

Speaker 4 (02:27):
I think so.
I guess we'll find out soonenough.

Speaker 2 (02:30):
Weird, that looks familiar.

Speaker 5 (02:33):
Hello, there.
Y'all must be the group fromA-Man.
I'm George Wilson.
It's good to meet y'all.
There's only three of you.
Y'all got another van coming,or something.

Speaker 4 (02:46):
No, sir, it's just us .
I'm Caspian, by the way, theone you spoke with on the phone.

Speaker 3 (02:51):
And I'm Otto.
It's good to meet you, sir.

Speaker 5 (02:53):
Well, I'm glad for you to meet me too, and you back
there.
Son, you got a name.
Oswald Nicholson, but I just goby Nicholson usually a name,
Oswald Nicholson, but I just goby Nicholson usually Nicholson.
You say, Well, I guess that'sthe three of you will have to do

(03:15):
.
It's not a huge job, just morethan I have time for right now.
I'll show y'all where y'all beworking.
Well, this here is the patch ofground that needs clearing.
I left some tools for y'all tostart with, and that shadow or
yonder will have anything elseyou need.
I'll be working in that fieldnext to the house, but if you
need anything, just call me andI'll be over here quicker than a
dog on a squirrel.

Speaker 4 (03:36):
Uh, thank you, Mr Wilson, we'll do our best.

Speaker 3 (03:39):
That was interesting, to say the least.

Speaker 2 (03:42):
Look at this place.
I mean, it's practically ajungle.

Speaker 3 (03:45):
It, to say the least.
Look at this place.

Speaker 4 (03:46):
I mean it's practically a jungle.
It's not that bad.
I mean, I have to admit it isworse than I thought it would be
.
Anyway, we should get startedStanding here looking at it.
Won't make this job move anyfaster.

Speaker 2 (04:02):
Oh, this is taking forever.
Surely there's some way we canmake this faster.

Speaker 4 (04:06):
I'm sorry, but this is how Mr Wilson wanted the job
done.
We shouldn't try anythingdifferent without his say-so.

Speaker 2 (04:13):
But couldn't we just burn it all away or something
Besides?
Mr Wilson is on the other sideof the property.
It would take even more time togo ask.

Speaker 3 (04:20):
Then just keep working.
If there was a faster way, MrWilson would have told us so.
As for burning it away, thatwould be too dangerous.
These fields would go up inflames where he could do
anything.

Speaker 2 (04:30):
Fine, but I still think there's gotta be a quicker
way to do this.

Speaker 4 (04:34):
Okay, well, how about this?
It's getting close to lunchtimeand maybe I could leave you two
to work while I pick up somefood, and then I'll talk to Mr
Wilson on the way back and seeif he has any ideas for how we
could make this go faster.

Speaker 2 (04:46):
Why do you get to go?
Couldn't I go instead?

Speaker 3 (04:49):
Are you going to spend the whole day trying to
get out of work?
Caspian gets to go because he'sin charge.

Speaker 2 (04:54):
I'm not trying to get out of work.
I'm simply trying to make thewhole process more efficient.

Speaker 3 (05:00):
By leaving.
Yeah, that'll definitely speedup the process.

Speaker 2 (05:04):
Actually it will.
I'm less experienced and slowerthan you two when it comes to
this sort of work, so it wouldbe more efficient for me to
leave than for Caspian to leave.

Speaker 4 (05:13):
Well, you may have a point I can't let you drive
because of uh, uh, uh, your uhpast.
No offense, okay, what doesthat have to do with anything?
Well, it's not my decision,really.
The van belongs to a man andthey have a stipulation that
people with a felony can't driveit.
It's something to do with theinsurance.

Speaker 2 (05:30):
What else am I not allowed to do?
Can I use these tools?
Could I stay in the center?
Am I even allowed to work for aman?
Or is there some stipulationthat you missed before hiring me
?

Speaker 4 (05:42):
Calm down, Nicholson.
I checked A-Man's policies.
The thing about the van is theonly thing I saw that involves
your criminal record.
I'm sorry I didn't tell youabout it before, but I just
forgot about it until now.
I didn't think it was relevant.

Speaker 2 (05:54):
All right, I'm sorry I got so worked up.
It's just kind of hard knowingthat you know mistakes have
consequences.

Speaker 4 (06:05):
Well, unfortunately, that's just how it is sometimes.
I mean, if you learn from yourmistakes and keep yourself out
of trouble, people will comearound eventually.

Speaker 2 (06:10):
If you say so.

Speaker 4 (06:12):
Well, I better be going if I'm going to go do that
.
So keep up the good work andI'll be back as quick as I can.

Speaker 2 (06:29):
You've gotta be kidding me what?
I accidentally broke my hoe.
I'm gonna go get a new one fromthe shed.

Speaker 3 (06:37):
Well, make it quick, we don't have all day.

Speaker 2 (06:43):
Make it quick, we don't have all day.
This is ridiculous.
I'm working just as hard as him, but he keeps treating me like
I'm lazy.
He's been saying this stuffsince we met.
I guess some people just can'taccept that people change.
He probably just wants me outof the way so he can get all the
credit.
Wait a second, that's exactlywhat it is.
He wants all the credit Well,I'm not going to give that.

(07:04):
He wants all the credit Well,I'm not gonna give that stickler
the satisfaction.
In fact, I'm gonna work evenharder.
Yeah, that'll really annoy him, especially if Caspian starts
listening to me more than him.
It'll drive him crazy.
Soon Caspian will be listeningto me more than Otto.

Speaker 3 (07:19):
Finally you get a break from that guy.
He never does anything butcomplain and try to get out of
work.
I still don't know why Caspianhired him.
I mean, I get helping him out,but he's just not cut out to
work here.
As far as I can tell, hedoesn't even believe in God.
This is a Christianorganization for crying out loud
.
He's probably sitting on hisphone in there trying to find
some way to cut corners.
We're supposed to do things theright way, but all he wants to

(07:49):
do is get the job done and gethis money.
Oh well, he won't last verylong with that attitude.
All I have to do is be patientuntil he leaves and everything
will be back to normal.

Speaker 4 (07:53):
I don't know what I'm supposed to do.
This job is barely worth.
The work we're providingDefinitely won't be enough to
get us out of the hole.
We need something more.
We need a break.
Lord, what do I do?

(08:13):
We need help.
I need help.
The center needs consistentwork.
I thought that this was what Iwas meant to do.
Did I get it wrong?
God, I need your help.
Everything I've tried so farhas failed.
I don't have anyone else I canrely on Not Dietrich or A-Man,
not Otto, not even myself.
You're the only one who canhelp me now.
So please do something, anything to get us out of this

(08:35):
situation we're in, mr Wilson.

Speaker 5 (08:40):
Ah, Mr Moore, How's that work going along for you?
Not too hard for you now is it.

Speaker 4 (08:47):
No, sir, it's going well.
I was just taking a break tograb some food and the others
wanted me to ask you if youmight have any suggestions for
how we could make the work gofaster without it cutting any
corners or forms.

Speaker 5 (09:00):
Well, if there was a faster way, don't you think I
would have told y'all before yougot started?
No, I'm afraid there ain't nofaster way.
You see, my tractor's beenacting up and I'm still working
to get her fixed.
Otherwise I would have justdone this job myself, no offense
.

Speaker 4 (09:17):
None taken, All right .
Well, anyway, I better get backto work before they get mad at
me for leaving them with all thework.

Speaker 5 (09:24):
Oh, one more thing.
Yes, that boy Nicholson, youmight want to keep an eye on him
.
You see, I used to know hisfamily years ago and that boy is
trouble.
I heard he went to jail a fewyears ago.
I didn't even know he was out.
He's about the last person Iwould expect to be doing work of

(09:45):
this sort.

Speaker 4 (09:47):
Thank you for your concern, but I'm aware of
Nicholson's past.
From everything I've seen andheard he's changed his ways.

Speaker 5 (09:54):
Or maybe he just got better at tricking people.
Either way, be careful.

Speaker 3 (10:10):
Hey guys, I'm back, Thank goodness.
I'm starving.

Speaker 2 (10:13):
Did you talk to Mr Wilson?

Speaker 4 (10:15):
Yeah, unfortunately he didn't have any suggestions,
sorry, oh well, it was worth ashot.

Speaker 2 (10:22):
I suppose we're making good time.
Either way, we should be doneby supper.

Speaker 4 (10:26):
Well, I'm glad to hear it.
If we finish today, that meanswe can try to find a new job for
tomorrow.
This job wasn't going to beworth more than a day of work
anyway.

Speaker 2 (10:36):
Oh, that's ridiculous .
This was a hard job.
Why don't we charge more?
Then the center wouldn'tstruggle so much.

Speaker 3 (10:41):
Because the center is meant to help people,
especially those who can't payfor help, we charge whatever
people can pay.
The only reason we charge atall is to keep the center
running.

Speaker 4 (10:50):
And that works fine for centers in the big cities
with lots of jobs, not tomention the fact that they often
get donations or volunteers.
Here, on the other hand, it's alittle bit harder.
Jobs are less frequent andsometimes we have to turn down
big jobs that would pay morebecause we don't have enough
workers.

Speaker 2 (11:05):
Can't say I blame them.
Considering the pay, which is aresult of our lack of funds.

Speaker 4 (11:11):
It's a cycle we haven't been able to break out
of.
All we need is well-paying,consistent work and we'd be back
in business Well, I have noclue where you would find that
around here.
Exactly.
All I know to do for now ispray.

Speaker 3 (11:24):
What's the matter, Nicholson?
You don't think prayer willmake a difference?

Speaker 2 (11:28):
Well, I can only speak from my experience when I
say that prayer doesn't seem tochange much.

Speaker 3 (11:33):
Maybe you just refuse to see how God answers prayer.
He doesn't always make lifeeasy for us.

Speaker 2 (11:37):
Oh, please.
I would have taken my lifebeing short of anything but
terrible growing up, but myprayers meant nothing and my
mother's prayers meant nothing.
She was a good woman, she hadto struggle through life and God
did nothing.
Obviously, it hasn't done muchfor you so far either.

Speaker 4 (11:59):
I'm sorry, nicholson, I don't know why you had to go
through all that, but God.

Speaker 2 (12:03):
Just don't.
I don't want to hear howeverything works for good.
In fact, I don't want to talkabout any of this.
Let's just get back to work.

Speaker 5 (12:17):
Hey there, I came to see how much the work you boys
got done so far.

Speaker 4 (12:22):
You came just in time .
We're finishing up now.

Speaker 5 (12:25):
Well, now looks like you boys done a mighty fine job.
I can't wait to see this pieceof land finally go to good use.
I'm sure it'll help a lot ofpeople.

Speaker 4 (12:35):
I'm glad you're happy with our work.

Speaker 5 (12:37):
Oh, I'm happier than an old dog on a warm summer day
Makes me wish I could pay youmore.
But you know how it is.
I got bills to pay and such.

Speaker 3 (12:46):
Don't worry about it, sir.
We're glad to help.
Well, we ought to be going.
It's getting pretty late.

Speaker 5 (12:52):
Are you sure I could tell you a story about that time
.
I nearly got knocked out by acow.

Speaker 3 (12:57):
I'm sure it's a great story, but we really have some
things to take care of back atthe center.

Speaker 5 (13:01):
Well, if you're sure, thanks again for the work, boys
, y'all have a good one now.
Oh, mr Moore, can I talk to youfor one second?
I spoke too soon.

Speaker 4 (13:12):
Yes, sir, you two put these tools away.
Hopefully this won't take toolong.
What's up, something wrong?

Speaker 5 (13:20):
No, well, it's just.
This doesn't happen very much, but I have to admit.

Speaker 4 (13:28):
I was wrong.
Wrong about what?

Speaker 5 (13:31):
Well, what I said earlier About Nicholson as a
Christian I should be morewilling to give people a second
chance.
You'd think I would be wiser.
As old as I am, I of all people, I should know that people can
change, you know.

Speaker 4 (13:48):
You of all people.
What do you mean?

Speaker 5 (13:51):
Well, I used to be a rough man myself.
I did some things.
I'm not proud of illegal things.
I hurt people.
But about 40 years ago Godturned my life around.
I was out with some friendscausing trouble.
When we found ourselves by theold church house.
We decided we was going to messwith the service.

(14:12):
When we went inside it was likeall our foolishness left us.
One by one, my friends left.
I was the only one sitting onthat view.
I can't explain it any otherway than God.
But somehow I couldn't seem toget up.
That old preacher man preachedright to me that night.
He said God could change me,make me a new person.

(14:33):
That sounded good to me becauseI was tired of who I was.
So I went out to that old altarand I prayed until God saved my
soul.
I've never been the same eversince.
So I guess what I'm saying isI'm sorry for what I said.

Speaker 4 (14:51):
I forgive you and thank you for telling me that.

Speaker 5 (14:54):
Well now, I don't know if that boy's found Jesus
yet, but if he hadn't, I can'tthink of a better place for him
to find him.
I appreciate the work you'redoing.
Keep it up and I'll see youlater.
Thank you, you too.

Speaker 4 (15:09):
What was that about?
Nothing much.
He was just telling me a story.

Speaker 2 (15:12):
So what's the plan for tomorrow?

Speaker 4 (15:15):
Honestly, I don't have a clue.

Speaker 2 (15:17):
What do you mean?
I thought you said getting thisjob done meant we could start
on the next one sooner.

Speaker 4 (15:23):
I was hoping we would have a job to do, but I haven't
got anything today.

Speaker 2 (15:28):
Okay, well, what made you think that?

Speaker 4 (15:31):
Well, I got a call the other day asking me to do a
job, and they acted like theywould have more for us to do.
What kind of work?
I have no clue.

Speaker 2 (15:41):
Wonderful, wonderful.
So we desperately need anotherjob to keep the lights on in the
center.
And all you have is a randomcall from someone hinting at a
job you know nothing about.

Speaker 3 (15:50):
Say what you want, but that first call was why we
hired you.
What?

Speaker 2 (15:53):
A first call.
What do you mean, caspian?
What does he mean by that?
Uh?

Speaker 4 (15:58):
well, the caller told us that if we hired you, then
they would have another job forus.

Speaker 3 (16:10):
Oh, okay, I see.
So I was only hired as a way toget more work.
Then I see how it is.
Well, we didn't hire you foryour outstanding character.
Besides, I thought Caspian toldyou already I didn't hire you
for your outstanding character.

Speaker 2 (16:17):
Besides, I thought Caspian told you already, I
didn't know if you would take itthe job.
If you knew, I still deserve toknow.
If some random person knows whoI, am you gonna answer that Uh?

Speaker 4 (16:28):
yeah, hello.

Speaker 2 (16:31):
Mr Moore, I see you have accepted my offer.

Speaker 1 (16:49):
I have another job for you.
Well, it looks like Caspian'sprayers didn't go unanswered,
but it definitely wasn't whatthey were expecting.
And as they continue on thistrail from this mystery person,
we'll find that they all have tolearn how to trust and move on.
But will they trust in God orwill they try to trust in their
own strength and power?
We'll find out next time.
