through his grace, and we're gonna get it get started
in here in just a moment. So we also remember
we do verse map and strategies and how to unfold
Guy's work for those who need it. And so we're
going to use the Great strategy, and there are some

(04:08):
other things that we're going to use here as questions
that we will answer as we go through the different
scriptures as well, because it's important that we, you know,
ask questions and then be able to dissect those questions. Heymen,

(04:29):
all right, so before we do anything else, we're going
to start with some background information because we're going to
be using the strategy of grace. We are coming from
the Book of Ephesians, which is one of the books
that we are studying, or the book that we're studying

(04:49):
and the whole Way workshops. So if you just just
a little sidebar, if you would like to join the
Ephesian study, you can join us and reach out to me.
Add to Nice at Hope in Christ dot com. That's

com and you can leave me a message and I

(05:11):
will sign you up under those that will receive the
email to join the zoom link. And it'll be the
second Saturdays and the last Thursday of every month. And
so this year we are going to be studying Ephesians.
And when I say a year, we're going to break
it down. A lot of times we just zoomed through

(05:33):
the scriptures, but we're going to be breaking down the
word and having conversation, which is amazing and man, so
before we do anything again, we want to use the
We want to look at the background, background information about
the Book of Ephesians and so they of course the place,

(05:54):
the location was Ephesus and one of the large this
is what this was one of the largest most opressive
cities in the ancient world, a political, religious, and commercial
center in Asia Minor. It was associated with Minister Paul,
ministries of Paul, Timothy and Apostle John and this city
played a significant role in the spread of early Christianity. Amen.

(06:18):
The ancient city of Ephisus was located in western Asia
Minor at the mouth sorry of Castor River as an
important seaport. Just a little bit more Emphasis, like other
ancient cities, was deeply religious religious pay attention to that word.
Her chief devotion was direct. Devotions were directed toward Artemis

(06:43):
or Diana, the goddess of fertility, which we know that
is not Christ right, we know that's an idol. And
then it talks about the shrines that they erected in
the temples that were erected in dedication to Artemis, say man,
and so we know that this temple, according to the

(07:06):
research and the commentaries, that this temple was burned down,
and it says it is to be believed that it
was burned down to night that Alexander the Great was
born Under the Romans, Ephicus thrived reaching a pinnacle of
greatness during the first and second centuries of the Christian era.

(07:27):
At the time of Paul, Emphasis was probably the fourth
largest city in the world, and we know during that
time the population would have been about two hundred and
fifty thousand, and it was designated the capital of the
Roman province of Asia and just a little bit more.
Paul labored here for three years and laid the foundation

(07:50):
for one of the strongest Christian churches of the first century.
Mostly Gentiles. This was mostly gentiles. It was so effective
that those who practice magic confessed and brought forth their
books of magic for burning right, because the power of
God is that great Amen. The worship of Artaments was threatning. However,

(08:13):
so here comes the conflict that took place, and that
was recorded in the Book of Acts. So there was
what was called, you know, rising up or riot by
Demetrius the silver Smith because of the threat to the
idols that were worshiped there and man and so what

(08:37):
does this background? So one of the questions once you
read a lot of information or you're gathering information, is
you stop and ask yourself, what does the background we
build about emphasis? So what does this tell you? So
I want you to take a moment and think about
what does this reveal to you about Ephicis. One of
the things that it brought to me was that it was,

(08:58):
you know, similar to our world today. People were living
and people were doing what they do, and however they
were idols worshiped. And when pauls and when God sent
Paul there right to a place that did not know Christ, Amen,
that plays that now there's conflict. Why because the truth

(09:21):
is being presented there? And so that's one of the
things that stood up to me, all right, and so
now after we get the background. So we've got some
information about Ephesus, the background of Ephesus, and they're mostly,
like I say, the Greek there. And we know that

(09:42):
the Gospel is one of the Jews and the Greek amen.
And so the strongest concordance one of the words that
Paul uses several times in the Scripture and the Ephesians
he is the word grace. And so the work graces,
according to the strong Concordance and the or Bible Dictionary

(10:02):
is the divine influence upon the heart that I highlighted,
you know, just those words that pop, those words that
stand out. So the one of the phrases that stood
out to me was the divine influence upon the heart
of man. And then there's another part of the definition
that says of the merciful kindness by which God right

(10:24):
God himself asserted his Holy influence upon the soul of man,
turning them to Christ. So merciful kindness by which God
exerting his Holy influence upon souls turns them to Christ,
keeps them, strengthens them, increases them in Christian faith, and

(10:47):
their knowledge and an affection and kindles them lights right,
keeps the light going them to the exercise of Christian virtue.
In the mercies of God and his kindness towards us.
He influences our souls and turns us to Christ. Say man,

(11:10):
the power of God turning us to Christ. And so
how does this definition speak? This definition speaks is to
me one of the biggest things is that it's nothing
I can do about it. It was free from the beginning.
It was free. And then his divine influence, not the
influence of the world, not the influence of myself, and
not the religious things that we're told that we should practice.

(11:33):
We got to do this, and we got to do that.
This is wrong, and that is wrong, and all the
different things that man has created. This definition tells me
that it was the only divine influence of God on
our hearts to turn us to Christ. Amen. And so
I think that's very that's vital for us to understand.

(11:57):
All right. So now that we have that definition and
keep it burning in our brains, right now we can
go into the scriptures. So we're only gonna look at
if you just want, you know, all the way up
to verse ten. But we are gonna skip the salutation,
right because we know he says he uses the word

(12:17):
grace in the salutation as well, and to open it.
But we're gonna start with verse three and verse three
and four says blessed be the God and Father our
Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us. Come back to
the definition definition in a moment in Christ with every
spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, right even as He

(12:38):
chose us in Him before the foundation of the world,
that we should be what holy and blameness before him
in and then the part stops right there, full stop,
and then in love, and it's gonna go into the
next verse. And so blessed be the God and Father
of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us, What

(13:01):
does blessed me to cause us to prosper? Has favored us?
So it's not ourselves that causes us the prosper spiritually
and prosper in in and knowing who God is and
coming to Christ. It is it was God himself that
caused that to happen, with every spiritual blessing in the

(13:23):
heavenly places. So this is this tells me that this
thing is not in the natural, in the flesh, but
it happens in the spirit and man. And then it says,
he chose us in Him, in Christ. He chose us
in Christ before the foundation of the world, that we
should be holy and blameless before Him. How do we

(13:46):
become holy and blame us for God before God? In
Christ Jesus, in Christ Jesus. And so that another question says,
what stands out and why it stands out? But that's
that's what's stands out, that we were chosen in Christ.
We can't choose ourselves. There's nothing else additional there we

(14:07):
have to do because the power and they were redemption
and deliverance and all the things that that's needed is
in Christ. We have to do is submit to Christ, right,
submit and he will. He will redeem, he will transform
the heart, he would all the work that needs to
be done, and starts with submission, submission, right, And so

(14:32):
that's one of the reasons why that stands out to me.
All right, and then we go into verses five and six.
So at the end there in the inniverse force that's
in love. And then it goes on here he predestined
and predestinies predetermined or decided beforehand, so he predestined us

(14:57):
for adoption to Himself as songs through Jesus Christ. Adoption.
So we know originally in the Old Testament, that's why
we have to read the Old and the New, that
the Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and the children is where
they were, that that lineage was chosen by God right

(15:21):
for Christ to come through, but also chosen to and
set apart and to live for Christ and live for
God and It and all the things right. And so
it tells us and we remember that Ephaesis, the Book
of Ephesians and talking to mostly gentiles that chosen for adoption,

(15:41):
so we know adoption is it means that someone is selected, right,
and the naturalists, you're selected to live with a couple
or people that will choose to take care of you
and love you and be your your parents. Right, And

(16:03):
so you're adopted, chosen for adoption to God as sons
through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of whose will,
God's will, not our will right. And then it goes
on to say, to praise of h to the praise
of His glorious grace. There to get that word is

(16:24):
again his grace, And so I just want to park
here for a minute and look at the definition or
a little bit more of what it means to be predestined. Right.
And so in the Predestination on the ESB Study Bible notes,

(16:45):
it's important that we look at scholarly books and not
just one opinion. Now, for me, I don't just read
commentaries that's just one opinion. I look for those that
there's many, many, many different scholars who who have studied
the scriptures, who know have they're educated in the world. Amen.

(17:09):
And so the SB Studied Bible says that previously ordained
or appointed to some position. That's what predestine means, right.
And it goes on to talk about God's election of
Christians entangles and I'm sorry not entangles, entails his predestining
them to something, in this case to adoption. So we're

(17:35):
being predestined to adoption as sons. And then it says
see verse eleven and Romans eight twenty nine through thirty.
And then it goes on to say, hence, election and
predestination in this context refer to God's decision to save someone.
So he decided from the beginning, he predestined or determined

(17:56):
from the beginning the salvation, right, the salvation, our salvation.
All Christians, male and female are sons in the sense
of being heirs who will inherit blessings from their Father
in Heaven. Amen. And so our thoughts, It says, what
are your thoughts? And you can write down this question

(18:17):
so that you can kind of go back and you know,
ponder over it later. But the question is that I
came up with this. What are your thoughts on being
predestined for adoption, be predestined for adoption to himself, to
God as sons through Jesus Christ. Okay, a man, what
are your thoughts on that? How do you you know?

(18:40):
Not not that our opinion matters, because it's truth, but
what do you think about that? You know, how does
it make you feel about already being predestined? Amen? And
God making a decision to save me before I was
even thinking, before I was even thought about a man.

(19:02):
And so that's this verses five and six, and then
we go into verses six through eight, where it goes
a little bit deeper. There's some depth to this one.
This part says, to the praise of His glorious grace,
there's that word again. And then I took him innute too.
Just let's go find the definition of grace, because a
lot of times we say, you know, we sing the souls,

(19:26):
even the old song that said your grace and mercy
brought me through, and we say, you know the grace
of God, and we hear it all the time. But
what does the Bible say. What does the word say
that grace means? And it says the merciful kindness by
which God exerting his Holy influence upon the souls. Right again,

(19:46):
we want to repeat the definition of grace turns them
to Christ and keeps and strengthens and increases them in
Christian faith. And divine influence upon the heart, so in
of divine with the Divine influence upon heart. So God's
merciful kindness. So it's not just God blessing us with stuff, right,

(20:08):
God giving us a grace to do something. You know,
I sometimes would say that's not that I wasn't grace
to do that, And and you know some of it
may in a different context be but merciful kindness by
which God has his holy influence upon our soul to

(20:28):
turn us to Christ is the definition of grace here.
And he keeps us and he strengthens us hallelujah. And
so one of my one of my fiction books that
I wrote is called Sufficient Grace, and remembering that God's grace,
to his mercy, is kindness, his exerting influence on upon

(20:50):
my soul to turn my life to Christ and keep
me and strengthen me no matter what's going on in
my life, to strengthen me in Christ Jesus, and increased
my faith by his divine influence upon my heart, healing
my heart, delivering my heart. And so the fiction story
that I wrote, you know, not to get into that story,

(21:15):
but this reminds me of I had to do a
sensive study of grace, God's grace and remembering that through
his what does that mean? It says that we would
wish He has blessed us, right, he has highly favored us,
He's made us accepted through It says in the beloved

(21:39):
what is the beloved Christ? In him? We have redemption?
What's redemption? Right? Because a lot of times we just
skirt past some of these words. What's redemption? And redemption
is a release thing affected by payment of wressm. That
means that I was on my way to Hell. I
was on my way to be separated from God, and

(22:01):
Christ's blood paid the ransom for it, for my life
a man, and I'm redeemed. My heart has been turned
to Christ, and I'm redeemed in Him. It says through
the ransom, the deliverance is through the blood of Christ.
And it goes on to talk about what does that do,

(22:21):
the forgiveness of our trespasses according to the riches of
his grace. So the grace released so much into my life,
the mercy of God released so much through the blood
of Christ paying the ransom for my sin. So knowing
that we all have sin and fall short of glory
of God, but we don't have to stay there because

(22:44):
it was already paid for. Hallelujah. It was already paid
for by the richest of the grace of God. And
then it says, it goes on to say, which he
lavished in abundance, which lavish means abundance exceedingly upon us
in all Who's wisdom, all wisdom and insight, who has

(23:06):
all the wisdom and insight God. And this scripture, this
part of the scripture really makes me really think. It says,
another question, how does the scripture speak to you? It
makes me think about a lot of times we want
a lot of head knowledge. A lot of people, especially
in our time and our now, there's a lot of

(23:27):
desiring head knowledge. Well, why this and why that? And
read this, and you know, I'm going to I read
this book, and I read that book, and I heard
about this, and there's so much people a head knowledge,
but not understanding that God is eternal and all the
wisdom and insight is in him a man, and he
always had it. And so with that wisdom and insight

(23:50):
from the beginning, he already had a plan to redeem
me in the blood of Christ, to pay the ransom
from seeing in Christ. Jesus say, ma'am, holly lujah, but
the grace of God. But for the grace of God.
And then the last part nine and ten. I know
he's kind of zoomed through scriptures, but please make sure

(24:14):
you go back and read Ephesians one through one, Verses
one through ten again and focusing on how do we
notice what do we notice about the grace of God
in this in these scriptures? And so the last part
making known to us the mystery of his will? What

(24:34):
was his will? And so according to his purpose which
he sent forth in Christ as a plan for the
fullness of time to unite all things in Him. So
God always had a plan, because what what did the
scripture before that say? It says, in all wisdom and insight,

(24:55):
he had a plan right to unite all things in Christ,
things in heaven and things on the earth, to unite
all that in Christ. And I believe this is mine.
This is not commentary. This is me thinking. He knew

(25:16):
that if the moment He gave us the free will, Amen,
the moment God gave us a free will, he had
to have a plan in place, and man, because it
was giving us a choice to choose. That's what true
love is, right, That's what true love. That's the And
then even in giving us the choice, he didn't just

(25:37):
destoy us, He didn't just throw us away. He didn't
just destroy us. He had a planning place that we
could choose or not the grace of God in Christ,
right for the remission of our sin, for the ransom

(25:57):
for our sin to be paid, and we be wash
clean than the blood of the Lamb. Amen. And so
that's what I believe, That's what I believe with my
whole heart. And so let's talk a minute. Let's talkle minute.
Let's think a minute about about this grace, about this grace. Amen.
And so it says his grace and his grace, his grace,

(26:21):
his grace. So to recap of the definition, let's go
back over the definition again. The divine influence upon the
heart up on the heart of man. Right. We have
hearts right that were given to us by God. And
so his divine influence upon our hearts the merciful. His
kindness is merciful kindness by which God he God exerted

(26:44):
to his holy influence upon our souls, turning us to Christ.
So that's grace, right, divine influence moving on our hearts
to turn us to Christ. A man, keeping us, strengthening us.
All of that is God and not man. There's nothing

(27:06):
we can do. There's nothing we can do. A lot
of times we're taught you gotta do this, and you
gotta do that, and gott do this, and gotta do that. No,
that's not what the scripture tells us. It's not what
it's in the definition of grace tells us. That is
God that does the pot the work. I believe the

(27:28):
action we must take is submission to the will of God,
to the authority of God. Right, and also to what
what does God? What is his command? What does he
desire for? How does he desire for us to live?
And in that submission, Christ leads and guides us and

(27:49):
teaches us. The Holy Spirit teaches us and all the
things that that is needed. But we it's nothing that
we can come up with on our own. And then
so the question of question of grace, we're going to
do just the two parts of grace, the g right
God gives. God uses me with acronyms tremendously. Many of

(28:11):
you who've heard my podcasts, you've heard me use acronyms before.
So here's another one. How about God again teaching you
how to organize your thoughts as you unfold God's work. Right,
this is another way to organize your thoughts. So the
g the g is in the scriptures we've read, right,

(28:31):
what we've read so far, I'm going to go back
and read them again. Right, Where do you recognize God's
goodness and his gentleness? Where do you recognize his goodness
and gentleness? And what you've read, right, and what you've
already read, what do you recognize is goodness and his gentleness,
and what's goodness and gentleness? I'm glad you asked, right,

(28:52):
Never assume. I never assumed that somebody understands the definition
of a word, because I could say I know what
goodness means. But when I go get the definition, the
definition definition of goodness, it gives more you know, enlightenment.
To me, it gives me more insight on the word.
And so so where do we recognize the goodness and

(29:15):
gentleness of God? First of all, the definition of goodness
is where do we recognize God's character, his morality, his
integrity and integrity. Again is integrity. Another definition of integrity
is the faithfulness to high moral standard. So what do
we notice his faithfulness to his high moral standard? Or

(29:37):
we see his morality, or we see his integrity or
his character. That's the goodness part, right, So let's go
back and look. Well, the first place I noticed it
was that we see that God had a plan for
the fullness, for the fullness of time to you, not
all things to him. So I noticed that's where we

(29:59):
see his good right because the plan was in place
before hand, before we were even thought about. He knew
that and having all powered, all knowledge in him, knowing
as soon as I give them a free will. Right,
knowing that even the rejection of God for many of

(30:23):
those who were the original the Jews, right knowing that
He had a plan. He had a plan to unite
all things in him. Amen. And so that's where I
see Not that's not the only place, but that's one
of the places I noticed the morality of the character

(30:46):
of God and his integrity of maintaining his high moral
standard because we can't just many think, many believe that
we can just live our lives and be good people. Right,
I can be. I'm a good person. I can you know.
I don't do this and I don't do that, and
I don't treat people bad. I'm not a Marier, I'm
not this, I'm not that. But understanding that it is

(31:11):
bigger than that. You know, God said, my thoughts are
not your thoughts, my ways your ways, hallelujah. And so
in an understanding that his goodness is seeing with his
plan from the beginning and man, and then where do
we see his gentleness. So it's two parts to that

(31:32):
his gentleness. And gentleness is kindness, kindness or tolerance, the
capacity to endure what is difficult, his patience his generosity,
his willingness. Right, But I love the part where it
says the capacity to endure what is difficult, his patience.

(31:53):
God knew and he was tolerant of the fact that
human kind, his creation, would need redemption. He knew it,
he was and he was generous in the redemption process,

(32:15):
even the plan for redemption a man. So that's where
we see the goodness and the gentleness of God. And
then we have the r which is in grace. How
does this God's goodness and gentleness cause us to rest
in Christ? How does it cause? You? Think about it?

(32:37):
How does it cause you to rest in Christ? And resting?
What does resting mean? Right? Resting is a bird and
it's a figure. It's a figure of speech. Right. We
know the physical resting, but it's similar, right, And so
resting is having a peace of mind or spirit like
many times in the in the natural, in the physical

(32:59):
way of resting, we can't rest. We may be tossing
and turning if something is on our mind, is something
that is bothering us, or something that's happened, and we
want to you know, we're trying to understand. And so
we may not be we may be in sleeping fitfully,
we may not be able to rest. And so how
does knowing this goodness and gentleness about God towards us?

(33:25):
How does knowing that cause us to rest in Christ?
Cause us to rest in Christ? That's the name of Jesus.
And so how does knowing this or how does this
cause me to rest in Christ? Is our again? Knowing

(33:46):
that Christ is the answer. God already had the plan
and the answer and the solution to the sin problem
long before we even thought about. And so knowing I
can rest in Christ, those are us who have accept
the Christ because nobody can. We don't have to allow
people to religify us. Right, we know that Christ is

(34:08):
the answer, and I submit my life and I run
and I love Christ, and I allow him to heal
it and deliver it set me free from everything that
I can't set myself free from. So that's how I rest.
And knowing that He has the power to do it
a man, Holly Lujah, blessed the name of Jesus. Isn't

(34:31):
that good? So again, as you go back and read
these scriptures, think about two questions about God's grace. As
you go back and read the scriptures, think about where
you see and recognize the goodness and the gentleness of God,
and the scriptures and Ephesians. It's it throughout New Testament,

(34:54):
but we're talking about an Ephesians. And then how does
that good goodness and gentleness cause you to rest, cause
you to have a peace of mind, cause you to
bask or take pleasure in Christ? How does it cause
you to take pleasure in Christ? Because He is the answer, Amen,

(35:15):
He is the answer to it. All glory to God.
And I pray this blessed you. I played it because
it blessed me studying it, blessed me doing it in
in my zoom Bible study. It has blessed me, and
so I'm grateful to share it with you here on
the podcast. Amen. So as I wrap up, what are

(35:37):
some basic Bible to study tools that I use, because
this is all about what unfolding God's words, Studying God's word,

(37:26):
very important to also listen to the word, listen and
look at the word at the same time as you process. Right.
And then the Takarta Bible app is also amazing has
some other resources. But I wouldn't you know, you don't
have to go and buy all this stuff. And I
just happen to these things I've gathered over the years.
