The Horatio Hornblower series is based uponthe novels of C. S. Forrester.
They were admired by many fans,including Winston Churchill and Ernest Hemingway,
who is quoted as saying, Irecommend Forrester to every one literate I know.
The adventures followed the rising career ofa young, unpromising and sea sick
midshipman who eventually becomes Admiral of thefleet of Britain's Royal Navy. The storyline

occurs during the Napoleonic era, andalthough a great number of naval leaders inspired
Hornblower, Forrester was careful to placethe plots far enough away from the actual
battles so as not to interfere withhistory. The thirty minute radio episodes first
aired July seventh, nineteen fifty two. Michael Redgrave portrayed Horatio Hornblower. Harry

BBC was not interested in the series, so it was off to the
