Speaker 1 (00:13):
Hello you guys, Welcome back to another episode of the
Hockrel Energy Podcast. I'm your host, Kayleie, and this is
your weekly reminder that it's a new day, a new week,
a new mindset, and another day for you to become
the Hockrel Energy you want to attract. Hello you guys,
Happy Wednesday. I'm really excited about today's episode because I
don't know if you guys have been looking at my
(00:35):
social media, but your girl has been making some changes.
I don't know what has been in the air, but
I think spring and just also the mindset of going
into summer next month. Essentially, I see May as summer
in my opinion. But I've just been like seeking change
when it comes to so many things, and I thought
in this episode we could really just talk about changes
(00:58):
and small changes that you could do going into a
new season. And one little update that we did this
past weekend that has been something that I've been wanting
to change for so long was my bedroom. And I
think I probably talked about this either in a YouTube
blog or a few podcasts episodes back, but definitely have
(01:19):
been seeking some change in certain areas in my home.
My main floor. I have no issues with like, my
living area is perfect, my kitchen's perfect, My dining room
I would like to get a new dining table for
my podcast room is in the works. Obviously, we're just
waiting for the two chairs to come in and then
our bedroom. So the bedroom was probably the biggest thing
(01:39):
that I just wasn't in love with. And I don't
know why. I just felt like there was something that
was missing or just something that had to change. And
I think what I've realized is that as I age,
I feel like I have different design choices or just
a different esthetic in general when it comes to home decor.
I feel like the more I'm on Pinterest and the
(02:01):
more I see like different styles of course, like kind
of like fashion, like we evolve and we like change
different things when it comes to our clothing, and I
feel like as we get older, there's certain things that
we prefer. Like I would say, for me, if I
look at myself like five years ago when it comes
to fashion, for an example, I feel like I was
so into crop tops and like showing off my stomach
and all that, and now I feel like I'm more
(02:24):
like wanting to be modest, where I wear longer tank
tops and you know, I want to wear just like
long sleeves, and I love the look of long sleeve dresses,
Like I like that modest look. Obviously, occasionally it's nice to, like,
you know, wear a crop top moment or if you're
going out and you just like want to look really
put together. I totally hear that. But I used to
(02:45):
be a crop top girly every single summer. That's all
I would wear all day, every day, and I feel
like lately that's just not the case for me. I
feel like I'm always going towards just that more covered
up look where it's you know, I love wearing jeans.
I love the capri look as I talked about in
the last episode. Just like fitted tank tops, fitted tops
(03:05):
in general, I just find it looks more she of course,
when it comes to like sports brawls and all that
and plates, I feel like that's a different story because
you're in a workout class. It's not fashion. It's not
a runway in my opinion, even though I like to
look fashionable when it comes to my workout sets, but
when we're talking like outfits that I want to wear
on a daily basis, I don't want to wear crop top,
like I want to wear something that's just a bit
(03:26):
more chic, so to put it in the grand scheme
of things. When it came to the design of our bedroom,
I was always drawn to white and beige and cream,
as you guys can probably tell by that, and lately
I just have had this shift of wanting to go
more for that darker, earthy tone. So I recently just
ordered new bedding. I ordered dark brown betting, which I
(03:49):
feel like is so different for me and out of
my comfort zone. But I think that's the whole point
is I want it to be very different, and I
love how we're going into summer and I'm going for
a fall color, but I just love how it's still
a neutral color. And I've mentioned it I think in
the past that brown has been one of my favorite
colors lately, and I just think it's so beautiful. So
(04:11):
that's one thing I did. I ordered some new bedding.
I also ordered some wall sconces, and I've been trying
to figure out my bedroom layout in terms of how
I want the bedroom to look, since I want to
seek some change and see a bit of a difference
in our room. And we did flip the furniture this
weekend and we just basically reversed everything, so everything that
was on the previous wall we put on the wall
(04:31):
across from it. But today I had this urge of
doing everything myself, like moving all the furniture around again,
but except not in the before spot that it was originally,
but in a different spot. So I thought of something.
This morning. I woke up and I was on Pinterest
again and I found this one image and it was
(04:51):
the same bedframe that we have, and similar nightstands and
kind of a similar layout to our bedroom. And their
bed was against the window, which I never thought about doing.
But when I thought about it, I'm like, growing up,
my parents did that in the guest bedroom. They did
that in their master one time, and I'm like, okay,
so this is a thing. And if you guys saw,
(05:13):
you know. Obviously I enjoy having Zach's help when it
comes to moving furniture around, but the last thing I
wanted to do was to tell them to change the
furniture again. So for some reason today I just said,
fuck it, I'm going to do it myself. And I
don't know how this energy came to be, and I
don't know how this strength was there, but I moved
everything in our bedroom, and I'm so proud of myself
(05:35):
because I don't think I realized how strong I actually
was until I moved everything myself. And you guys will
see in the videos that I post this week of
just this whole process of changing our room up. But
I think this layout looks so good. I'm actually currently
sitting at it now because I didn't want to record
the podcast in my podcast studio just because I love
(05:56):
how our bedroom looks right now and I just wanted
to come sit in the view while talking to you guys.
So anyways, definitely follow along if you guys want to
see the bedroom journey. But I just love Home to
Course so much and I'm always just feeling so inspired.
And as I said going into this episode, I really
want to talk about small changes that you can do,
and I think this is a prime example of doing
(06:18):
small little changes that you know, don't require any money
or anything like that, and it just kind of like
reinspires you to get in like a better mood. And yeah,
for me, I just felt like, you know, I wasn't
overly obsessed with how our bedroom was before, and don't
get me wrong. I loved it when I first moved in,
but we've been here for three years now and I
was just like, you know what, I kind of want
(06:38):
something that's a bit different, that's going to make me
feel more comfortable coming into a room, more inspired, Like
having a new setup feels new, right, feels good, it
feels motivational. Like there's so many things you can say
about small changes, and yeah, so just flipping our bedroom around,
and I'm going to invest in little things, but it's
not necessary. So if you're the kind of person that's
(07:00):
seeking a small change and looking to do something a
bit different. Or for an example, my sister, she you know,
has been wanting to move out, but financially she hasn't
saved enough money to do so. So I said to her,
in order to do a small change for yourself, either
change your bedroom furniture around in your room or change bedrooms.
Because she's still living at my parents' place, and my
parents have two additional rooms that are guest bedrooms. It's
(07:24):
a four bedroom house, and obviously because I don't live
there anymore, they have the extra space to do so,
so Madison switched from her bedroom to my bedroom. So
my old one, and she put her furniture in there,
laid it all out, and it literally looks like a
brand new room and she's obsessed with it, and I
feel like her mood has been so much better, and
just she feels like it's new, right. It's just that
(07:47):
small change that really just motivates herself and feels good
going into that space. It's her comfort space all that.
So those are just some changes that I'm currently doing
that I feel like has really helped my mood, and
just things that I'm doing to go into a new
season as like a fresh start. And another thing we
talked about in a previous episode is talking about new
(08:09):
workouts because once again, I have been seeking some change
when it comes to my routine, and I think it's
important to do that ever so often. So you know,
after you're in a routine for like like four to
six months, I would say you kind of are seeking change.
I would say when you're in a good routine for
like four to six months, I think there's a point
(08:30):
where you feel like things are getting a bit repetitive,
and you might also just be seeking change because of
going into a new season. So you know, the weather's
getting warmer, and for me, I'm like, oh, I'm just
craving like heated mat Pilate's Like, I'm just like craving
that kind of workout. So i joined a studio that
provides that, and I've been loving the what it's in
Fred's Sauna, which I highly highly recommend finding in your
(08:53):
area because there's so many benefits to Infred Sauna. But
maybe we'll get into that topic in a bit. But anyways,
I've just been seeking change because of course I love
reformer pilates and I don't want to stop doing it,
but I want to create a new balance in my
routine when it comes to strength, when it comes to
a cardio, when it comes to maybe the hot matt
room all that. So I've been trying to break it
(09:14):
down where it's like three to four reformer classes a week,
two mat pilates, and then one to two spin COO
classes and then trying to walk every single day. That
alone sounds like a full time job, but anyways, that's
just something that works for me, moving my body every
single day. And yesterday I ended up doing two workouts
in one day, and that was a lot, but I
wanted to just see and test it out for my
(09:35):
own self, just to see if I could actually get
through two workouts and be physically okay, and of course
I was. It definitely made me feel really exhausted by
the afternoon, which isn't the ideal situation when we all
have a job and we have to get work done.
So for me, I don't think I'll probably do that again.
I did Reformer in the morning and then I did
(09:57):
a hot matted pilates in the afternoon. I got lunchtime,
just an express class. And it's not like I'll never
do it again. Maybe that's something that I just do
once in a while. But it definitely was a really
good workout day, let's just say that. And I felt good.
I just felt really sore, like in the afternoon tired,
and then this morning going into a workout class, I
(10:19):
was feeling pretty sore just from I feel like overworking
myself a bit. So Yeah, but let's talk about some
changes that you can incorporate into your lifestyle, some small
changes just going into a new season. So we talked
about how small changes can boost your mood. It can
give you that motivation, it can make your life seem
a little less boring. But another thing that I can
(10:41):
do is that it can help you break bad habits.
For an example, I've been actually trying to cut my
sugar intake a bit during the day because i have
the biggest sweet tooth ever, and I'm not saying that
I want to cut it out completely. Of course, everyone
deserves a little sweet treat after dinner, but I always
crave something sweet after every meal. So breakfast, I usually
have fruits, so I'm good, but for lunch and dinner,
(11:03):
I'm always craving something after that meal that just kind
of like satisfies my sweet tooth. So I usually have
either like a granola bar or some type of chocolate
after lunch, and I'm trying to cut that out by
substituting it with other fruits. So I actually bought grapes
this week, and I've been having grapes with taheen. I
(11:24):
don't know if you guys know what tahen is, but
it's so good grapes and that is like the best combo.
It's kind of a weird comboke. It's got a limey
chili taste to it, but I saw it on TikTok
and it's so good and I highly recommend trying it out.
But anyways, grapes has been like my substitution for like
(11:46):
artificial sugar, so it's a natural sugar. I know grapes
are pretty high in sugar, but I'm like, you know what,
at least it's not artificial, it's natural, and that's just
something I'm trying to cut down, right, So I'm hoping
eventually my body might not crave anything sweet after eating
lunch and then after dinner. I'm just trying to find
like healthier swaps that I can do. Like dark chocolate
(12:07):
is probably a bit better than milk chocolate, so I've
been trying to do that. I've also been trying to
make healthier desserts, which I've talked about. I've been really
wanting to try the date recipe, which I haven't done
so yet. I have all the ingredients. I don't know
why I haven't tried doing it yet, but that's something
I've been wanting to do. I've been wanting to make
banana bread. I've been wanting to make homemade ninja creamies.
There's so many things that I just want to try
(12:28):
to incorporate into my current lifestyle. So that's just an
example of how you can help break your bad habits
is just by starting small. Think of different ideas and
how you can break this bad habit that can hopefully
help change your life. I know I already named a
few examples of small changes, but I wanted to name
a few more. So, as I mentioned, if you're wanting
(12:49):
to change up your workout routine, I highly recommend trying
out new workouts. Other workouts I've been wanting to try
is lagree, as well as boxing, maybe even doing like
personal training all that. But what I love about the
hop pilates is how there's the infred sauna, as I said,
and the benefits to that are insane. Like I'll name
(13:11):
some of the benefits right now. It flushes out toxins,
It reduces joint pain, relieves stiffness, proves skin tone, sleep quality,
and reduces signs of aging. Alhelujah. We love reducing signs
of aging. It's great for your skin, which is so great.
And I also just love the feeling after the class
of just feeling like you sweat everything out of your body.
(13:32):
So I'm really trying to make that a priority to
do twice a week. And I've mentioned in the past
that I've been really wanting a sauna in my home,
but since I don't have that, I've been using this
workout class as my way of using a sauna. So
using the Infred heat with the workout classes. I know
it's not the same obviously, but there is some relaxing
(13:52):
moments in the class as well, which is kind of nice.
It's more of like a yoga flow in the beginning,
and then it gets really intense for like the last
thirty minutes, and I kind of like the combination of
those two. And I was so surprised to see how
many of you, at least you follow me on my
TikTok who said that they were like huge Oxygen girls
that like live and breathe. It's the best thing they've
(14:13):
ever done for themselves all that. So I love the
community that it created through my social media of people
going there, sharing their experience, sharing classes that I should take.
All that. So if you want to check out Oxygen,
I highly recommend it. It was a very fun class
and I've been going to it consistently and yeah, I'm
hoping to make this a continuous thing for the summer season.
(14:34):
One thing that I will say made going to a
new workout studio easier is bringing a friend because I
know it can be scary going to a new gym
or just a new workout class that you've never been to.
But I find the easiest way to jump into a
new class or just a new routine is asking a
friend or your sister to do it. So, for an example,
my sister and I ended up doing Oxygen together because
(14:56):
we both have never done it. She wanted to do it,
I wanted to do it. I'm like, well, let's do
together because it's easier to, like, you know, be able
to go together, do it together, talk about the class
after in terms of what you both thought of it.
You know, it's I don't know, there's just something that
feels a little less scary and less nerve wracking when
you do it with a friend or a sister. So
if you've been wanting to change it up and try
(15:16):
a different studio out, I highly recommend bringing a friend
because I think you're going to be more inclined to
go and try out the new workout class with a
friend or your sister versus going alone. And yeah, I
just find it makes a difference. Another small change is
a new scenery. So, as I said, maybe changing some
rooms up in your home, maybe going on a little
road trip on the weekend, just kind of like getting
(15:38):
out of a repetitive routine. Like I think sometimes we
don't realize, like when we're in a red or when
we're feeling low and you know, you're just seeking something
different and you don't know what's going on. Sometimes it's
nice to do these small changes by going out of
your way to make changes in your home or find
time to you know, go away on the weekend and
do a little road trip. Just like changing your routine
(16:01):
and breaking out of it by changing different scenerings up
and just changing different things that you could do on
your weekend, I think is essential and important. Like I've
only traveled once or twice this year so far, and
I'm lucky that I've gotten those opportunities because I do
think breaking me out of my own routine, for an example,
and getting out and doing something different for a week
(16:22):
and then coming home, you look forward to that routine
that you had before leaving, and you feel reinspired and
just that change of scenery of like leaving and having
that little trip to yourself was needed. So anyways, I'm
not saying go spend money on a trip, but I'm saying,
you know, even if you have a cottage, like go
away for the weekend and just kind of change it
(16:42):
up for the weekend and then come back, or as
I said, like find spaces in your home to change
up that you might be kind of sick and tarrative
and you don't really realize it until you do it.
So at least for me, I'm really happy with making
the changes in our room already, and I'm feeling more
inspired and my mood's just a bit better. Another small
change you could do is changing up your shower routine.
(17:03):
So I'm a hot shower girl, and I think a
lot of girls I think tend to have hot showers.
I know Zach does not have a hot shower. He
hates hot showers, and I feel like, I don't know
that might be a guy thing, but I love taking
like a burning hot shower after any kind of workout
in the morning for like five to ten minutes, and
then I switched to cold for like the last minute
(17:26):
or two. I don't overly love cold plunges or cold water,
but I know there's a lot of benefits to doing
cold showers like for focus, it boosts your mood, it
helps reduce anxiety all that. So doing that combination of
both is obviously really good for your health. You guys
know me, I'm all about trying those health and wellness
things that will benefit your health. So yeah, so that's
(17:49):
something that you haven't tried. I highly recommend trying it.
Another one is shopping at a new grocery store or
maybe even like a specialty store. Lately, I've been trying
to go to a bakery for all of our bread
here at home. So just like sour dough bagels, they
do scones there, they do dinner rolls, like literally everything
(18:09):
is fresh at this bakery and that's what I love,
and I think another great thing about it is that
the ingredients are ten times better. You do pay a
bit more for those things, but it's been a nice
change to support a bakery versus always supporting a grocery store.
Another thing I've been wanting to do, to be honest,
is go to a butcher to get our meat moving
(18:29):
forward versus the grocery store. Because I don't know if
you guys live in Canada or not, but the prices
of Anyways, food at the grocery store is ridiculous, so
finding ways to yeah, maybe support other businesses, or again,
just making the small change of like having a different
routine by changing up your grocery stores, I think is important.
(18:52):
Another thing we'd love to do is go to farmers' markets.
Right now, it's currently not open, but I do think
it starts in the beginning of May, which I'm very
excited about because I think the season for farmers' markets
here is from like the beginning of May to end
of October, so I'm really excited for that to start
up again because I love getting our fresh produce from there.
(19:12):
And again, it's a lot of small businesses, so just
discovering new businesses is always fun as well. And I
just find everything at a farmer's market just tastes better
in my opinion, because everything is beyond fresh and we
love fresh things. I think another thing you could do
as a small change is create something that you can
enjoy on the weekend, and maybe it's a little routine
(19:33):
that you have for yourself with your partner or a friend,
you know, maybe trying out different coffee shops or getting
into a hobby together. We talk about that a lot.
Zach and I have been wanting to find a hobby.
A lot of you guys actually messaged me after, which
was so sweet, and you guys recommended like biking, rollerblading, tennis, pickleball,
all that. So we're trying to find something active to
(19:54):
do together. And I loved the idea of rollerblading, to
be honest, because I used to do that all the time,
and I think it could be fun, like on the
weekends to go rollerblading to a coffee shop and going
to get a coffee together, or biking or whatever, right,
just to like get out of the house, you know,
be off your phone, enjoy the fresh air, be active.
Like I don't know, Zach's not a big runner. I
would love to run with him, but he definitely doesn't
(20:17):
like it. Freddy loves to run, but yeah, so that's
just gonna have to be something that I do by myself.
But that would be another good idea to do with
your partner on the weekends, is just doing that and
trying different coffee shops together, or like going to get
different smoothies at different smoothie spots. Again, just like trying
those new things is always so refreshing. Other ideas you
(20:38):
could do is changing up your tea and coffee routine,
so trying out different coffee recipes or again trying different
drinks out at home. I've been trying out different teas
in the morning. Instead of just having green tea, I've
been drinking like Dandelion tea or Camo meal tea. Coffee routine,
I've been kind of changing it up. I used to
add brown sugar, cinnamon, and honey before my espresso shot,
(21:01):
but now I've been cutting out the sugars and i
just add honey in sea salt. Adding the sea salt
in my coffee has been a complete game changer. You
guys need to try the honey in sea salt before
you brew your espresso shot. If you are an espresso
lover or if you just have an espresso maker, please
add this before you pour your shot, and then mix
(21:21):
it with the spoon and then add it to your milk.
If you're like a lote girl or a cappuccino girl,
I cannot tell you how this has changed the coffee
game for me. I find the sea salt basically just
like activates the coffee flavor even more than what it
already is, and it just tastes ten times better. So
I don't know, and sea salt's good for you. I
(21:42):
put it with the grinder. I don't use that much.
It's just like two little grinds with like a tablespoon
of honey and that's it and it's so good. Thank
me later. But you guys need to try it, especially
if you've been wanting to change up your coffee routine.
It's my go to recipe and I've been loving it.
Other things you could do is like changing your wallpaper
on your phone or on your computer, finding things that
(22:03):
might be more inspiring for the new season. So it
could be like putting a spring background from Pinterest or
summer season. You could also, you know, put your vision
board up. If you haven't put that up on your
phone or your laptop. Minds my vision board. I constantly
look at it and it kind of just always reminds
me of things that I want to achieve for the year,
or things that I want to achieve for the season
(22:25):
coming up. So things that I want to achieve for
the summer, like traveling a bit more, you know, doing
some things to the home. All that. The last one
is trying new recipes out. So I've talked about this
a lot, but I've been really wanting to change up
my dinner recipes at home because I'm pretty sure it's
really common for people to have like the same meals
in their household, like if they have the same dinner
(22:45):
rotation for you know, Monday to Friday, with different recipes
that they just always resort to. And I've just been
really sick and tired of the ones that we always
go back to. And for an example, last night, it
was Monday night and I decided to try out a
new recipe and I made stuffed peppers. It was so good, guys.
It's just a pepper that you cut in half, you
(23:07):
take out the seeds, you rinse it out, and then
you add some stuffing into it, which I used extra
lean ground beef with some corn onion, and then I
added taco seasoning on top. Mix that up, heat it
up in a skillet, and then all you have to
do is just scoop it up, put it in the pepper,
add some cheese on top, throw it in the oven
for like twenty minutes, and then I usually put some
(23:28):
guacamole on top. I'll make homemade guak and then if
you want, you can have a little bit of tortilla
chips on the side. Anyways, it was a huge game
changer because I feel like I usually have tacos, but
I'm over that, Like I'm over having tacos every week.
So I'm like, Okay, what's different. That's kind of similar,
that's easy to make, And I saw the stuffed peppers
on Pinterest, and I'm like, this is perfect, it's easy,
(23:50):
it's good. I also had a few extra for the
day before, so I was able to have it for lunch. Anyways,
it was so good, so I highly recommend trying that out.
Another new recipe that we tried on Sunday was chicken
pot pie stew. We've been trying to make Sundays are
crockpot nights, especially because we can have again meal prep
for the week when we use it the crockpot, because
I think it's usually about six to eat servings whenever
(24:13):
we make a recipe with the crockpot. And the chicken
pot pie was basically potatoes, carrots, peas, chicken, and then
just a bunch of seasoning. That was really good and
I thought it was easy just to throw everything in
the crockpot. I've also been loving my Greek raps, which
is essentially just a peeda rap with taziki or hummus
(24:34):
as your base, and then you can add like a
Greek salad mix with a bit of Greek dressing. I
add chicken, I add a bit of feat of cheese, cucumbers, olives,
what else, tomatoes, I don't know. It's just really good
and I just create like a little rap and I
have that for lunch. So just trying new things out
because I'm getting the eggch I've been sick and tired
(24:55):
of eating the same things that I usually do. So
I think it's important to incorporate these new recipes you're
exposing yourself to because it allows you to fall in
love with new foods, new recipes and maybe your new
you know, dinner rotation or lunch rotation. By trying these
new things, it allows you to get excited, it allows
you to experiment with new things, and yeah, it's just
nice to incorporate new meals and they just become your
(25:18):
new go tos. So those are just some small changes
that I would recommend going into a new season. And
I know this can sometimes be a little repetitive, but
it's more so just to like make you guys aware
that you can always make changes at any point in
your life, and that they don't always have to be
so big. They could be small things that you can
do in your home that could really just lift your
(25:39):
mood and kind of get you out of that rut
that you might be feeling, or just kind of get
your spark back, because you know, I personally feel like
when you go into a new season, it feels really
