Speaker 2 (04:21):
How are you okay? No complaints, had no complaints.
Speaker 4 (04:25):
I love it. Happy Tuesday? Everyone?
Speaker 2 (04:27):
Tell us Where are you from? Jason?
Speaker 4 (04:31):
Originally from the Bay Area, San Jose. My first recording
was in Durant.
Speaker 2 (04:35):
Square at Oakland And where are you at now? In
l A Okay? Okay? So bright lights, big city, Yeah.
Speaker 4 (04:43):
I guess so, but you know, definitely there's a lot
of big fish here.
Speaker 2 (04:48):
Tell us a little bit about growing up growing.
Speaker 6 (04:52):
Up in San Jose, like I was pretty much the
only singer in the neighborhood, which actually worked out well
to my advantage because a lot of my my you know, boys,
they were rapping, so and we always do it for
the ladies, right, We always do it for the ladies.
That's what I'm about too, and so I just want
to see people have fun. And so a couple of
my buddies were like, yo, man, we need to hook
on this. And so at first it was just like
(05:14):
baptism by fire. But I came to love it just
because again, we did it for the ladies, but also
because as my craft got better and better, it was hot.
You know, it was real hot to let them throw
down like an eight or sixteen and let me, you know,
scoop them up with a nice Glok.
Speaker 2 (05:32):
Okay, so what age did you get started in the
music game?
Speaker 1 (05:36):
Oh wow?
Speaker 6 (05:37):
Well, again, it was definitely for the girls. But I
don't know, I just always liked music in general. You know,
we're always blasting it different styles, you know, different people,
different parties that you go to. My mom and dad
are both musically in climbed. My sister plays piano. So
I was always around it, but no one ever thought
of it as a career choice. Man, that's a whole
(05:59):
nother story.
Speaker 4 (06:00):
You know.
Speaker 1 (06:01):
It was my next question about you know, family members
that was involved in the music industry. You know that,
in fact, that your choice to make a move. How
did you decide on the style of music that you're doing,
you know, coming from the Bay Area now in the LA,
how did you decide what type of music you would do?
Speaker 6 (06:18):
I think it has to do with just the parties
that we were at. Like, the best parties were hip hop,
you know, are rap related. The best shows I ever
went to, the best concert I ever went to were
raped and hip hop.
Speaker 4 (06:30):
You know.
Speaker 6 (06:30):
You did have a few singers that would get in there,
like you know, like an Usher or justin Timberlake or
something like that, you know, but mostly they were holding
it down with hip hop beats because that shit was
the most energetic, That was the most fun to watch.
You didn't need fireworks, You didn't need a whole bunch
of fifty like background dancers to let you know it's
a good show. You could have just two cats running
around on the on the stage just killing it. And
(06:53):
that's what I want to be part of, you know
what I'm saying.
Speaker 1 (06:55):
Yeah, speaking of justin Timberlake, when I sent you a
song to a couple of DJs, say what he got
that justin Timerlake feel and once said, uh, Brin Omar.
Speaker 6 (07:05):
So yeah, oh I love them both, you know because
Justin definitely held it down for us white people, you know.
So and someone that I definitely was influenced by, like
growing up, because you know, he still had this soulful
edge and he had this funky edge.
Speaker 4 (07:19):
And that's definitely yours truth.
Speaker 2 (07:21):
Okay, So how'd you find those beautiful young ladies for
the video? Man?
Speaker 6 (07:27):
That's a good thing about LA They're everywhere. So but
I did have someone help me do some casting, and
I mean we had a good time. It's probably the
best time I've ever had on set.
Speaker 4 (07:36):
You know. The music video was a lot of fun,
and we're looking forward to doing the next one.
Speaker 2 (07:40):
The DREADI casting couch in the music industry and the.
Speaker 6 (07:43):
Dread casting couch. I'm not going there because you know,
no one needs no lawsuits. But but yeah, I mean,
you know, it never hurts the flirt that runs.
Speaker 1 (07:54):
Yeah, well, well we know somebody wish they had to
be in funding with people that's uh, that's in court
of mid Day right now.
Speaker 2 (08:00):
We're not gonna mention their name was flirting.
Speaker 4 (08:02):
I think there was. He was going all the way there,
But allegedly allegen.
Speaker 1 (08:08):
That's the that's the correct word, right. So you do
you speaking of allegedly? Do you allegedly have a career
or you're just out here taking it till you make it?
Speaker 4 (08:19):
No, no, no, that's not something we learned in the babe,
people pull your work with Okay.
Speaker 6 (08:25):
Yeah, yeah, So you know I signed with World Movement
Records last year because I'm serious about this ship.
Speaker 4 (08:33):
You know, this is what I live and die for. Uh,
this is why I take time out of my life for.
This is what I say no to friends for.
Speaker 2 (08:39):
You know, this is what I do.
Speaker 1 (08:42):
Okay, you I love the Bay Area. Matter of fact,
forty sister joined club House with my invite. You know,
it was invite only back in the day.
Speaker 2 (08:55):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (08:56):
I used to always when too Short came to Cleveland,
I would always pick him upt the airport taking take
him to the hood to get his hair cut. You know,
he wasn't even though he always got a bald head,
but he always wanted to get a fresh cut, nice
and tight.
Speaker 2 (09:08):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (09:09):
So we love it, you know, love the Bay Area.
Love coming up there, you know, La two. You know,
mostly around Century City, you know, for the ear but
in fact, I used to have an office in Fox
Fox Plaza there on Century City. Yeah yeah, back in
nineteen ninety I wouldn't making no money. I was just
(09:30):
out there losing money.
Speaker 2 (09:32):
But uh so, so, how many songs have you done
so far?
Speaker 4 (09:39):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (09:40):
Well?
Speaker 6 (09:40):
Across the album is in probably about twenty you know. Yeah,
and I got a bunch more that we haven't released here.
It's something that LP and I need to discuss what's
next coming off the label. But a lot of people
have responding really well to out of Breath, and I'm
excited about that. One of our girls, one of the dancers,
are like, is that like K pop? And I'm like, dude,
whatever you guys say to make the money, Rain, I
(10:00):
don't care.
Speaker 2 (10:01):
So so what do you see Jason five years from now?
Speaker 4 (10:08):
Man?
Speaker 6 (10:08):
I would love to be doing what Bruno's doing. I
mean he looks like he's living his best life. I
mean he's doing music that I think he believes in.
You know, when he dropped twenty four K man, I
called up a bunch of my buddies, you know, in
the in the bay, and I said, man, this is
what we you know, used to talk about doing, you know,
pulling into everybody from old school to be able to
(10:28):
you know, have them on the record with you.
Speaker 4 (10:31):
That's real love.
Speaker 8 (10:32):
You know.
Speaker 6 (10:32):
That's also like, you know, real talent. So that's that's
what I see myself doing, is being a global superstar
living my best life.
Speaker 2 (10:42):
Other than Bruno and Justin Timberlake, who else do you
who else do you like out here? Well?
Speaker 6 (10:49):
I mean Ed Sharon has got a cool story. You know,
the dude can write his ass off. So but I
know he popped around in the business for a long
time before he got a real shot.
Speaker 4 (10:57):
But look what he's making of it now, you know.
Speaker 6 (11:00):
So I love people like that that just you know,
if they love music right just like I do, that
they don't just give up because the ship is hard.
Speaker 4 (11:07):
It ain't you know, it ain't meant to be easy.
I don't like all the.
Speaker 6 (11:09):
Social media the way they tell the stories because it
ain't true.
Speaker 4 (11:13):
You know, none of this ship is easy.
Speaker 6 (11:14):
And that's fine because if you thought it was easy,
if it was you know, you thought it was an
opportunity to get a pat on the back, and this ain't.
You know, this, this ain't the line of work for you.
But if music courses through your veins and this is
all the you know, the ship that you think about
every time you wake up and you go to bed
at all those.
Speaker 4 (11:31):
Minutes in between. And like me, I write songs in
the shower or I write songs on the four or five.
Speaker 2 (11:37):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (11:38):
So anyway, I jumped off topic there, but it's sharing
definitely someone I have mad respect for on the full five.
Speaker 2 (11:43):
Don't they call it distracted driving? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (11:46):
Oh no, I don't do that.
Speaker 1 (11:53):
So other than other than some people I talked to
the mentioned justin Timberlake and yeah, and Bruno Mars, who
do you think that you?
Speaker 2 (12:03):
I know you're unique and different. We understand that. But
if you have to say, I think I'm more like
so and so, who would you say other than those two?
Speaker 6 (12:10):
I think if Bruno Mars and Eminem had a love child,
that be mean, okay, because I love Eminem.
Speaker 2 (12:17):
Man.
Speaker 6 (12:17):
You know, he just doesn't give a shit. You know,
the all the shows, all the performances are electric. You know,
he keeps things fresh. Man, That dude won't die. You know,
like every time you think he out, he back so
and I think he does just deeply love music, you know.
I think that's the defining factor with all these people
that are getting so called discovered on TikTok and this
(12:39):
and that, Like I think the truths really you can.
You can see it shine through with their personalities, with
the way they give interviews, if they love music or not,
you know what I mean. Maybe it doesn't matter to
anybody else, but it definitely matters to me.
Speaker 1 (12:52):
Okay, well, let me go to some of the people
in the car cans have any questions. Anybody got any
questions for Jason?
Speaker 4 (12:58):
Maybe I answered all the questions.
Speaker 1 (13:00):
Yeah, you probably did. Probably shocked to see you. Yeah, hey, okay,
go ahead.
Speaker 10 (13:10):
Hey thanks, Uh hey Jason, nice to next to meet you. Yeah, man, uh,
interesting stuff. Your your sound is is real modern. I
do hear that like kind of K pop aesthetic to it, so,
you know, it's like American k pop, which.
Speaker 8 (13:27):
Is kind of funny because you know, K pop kind of.
Speaker 10 (13:30):
Came from like the nineties boy band kind of sound,
but modernized it with you know, kind of fresher pop
beats and kind of borrowed some of the funky hip
hop stuff. So but yeah, I like what you said.
I put it in the in the chat. But you
know what you said about Bruno Mars and how he
settled into such a groove. You're really right there, man,
(13:53):
Like he has come so full circle from his early
days and man, you could just see how he mature
heard into like such an awesome competent songwriter, confident, and
then when he started collaborating with Anderson Pack and they
formed Silk Sonic, Man, the two of them together, dude,
it's like that's magic.
Speaker 8 (14:14):
You know, that collaboration is just perfect.
Speaker 10 (14:17):
And the fact that they can go back to and
pay homage to the roots of like early soul and
R and B and then make it modern too, It's just, man,
that's just so cool, Like because I'm I'm the type
of composer producer that you know, I love to blend
all these different genres and stuff together.
Speaker 8 (14:36):
So it's interesting to see and hear musicians in the in.
Speaker 10 (14:40):
The pop and hip hop field who you know, who
like to bring in different genres and stuff like that.
Speaker 8 (14:45):
So yeah, that's all I wanted to say.
Speaker 4 (14:47):
Nice to meet you, though, Yeah, very nice to meet
to I appreciate what you have to say.
Speaker 6 (14:50):
Uh, yeah, it's it's all about like I guess, the
word fusion is used a lot, you know, infusing these
different styles that we like, right, because it's it's just
the same thing as he at a restaurant. You know,
you don't always have the same flavors from the exact
same culture, and it's fun to mix it up and
then see how how the world responds.
Speaker 1 (15:10):
Yeah, definitely, Okay. In your bio says you're magnetic. So
what exactly does that mean?
Speaker 6 (15:18):
I mean, I end up getting attracted to just different
metallic objects as I drive around. It's crazy, you know,
to get kid pulled out of the bends. No, well,
of course, you know, as you probably know, a publicist
wrote that for me. But I appreciate what she has.
Speaker 4 (15:34):
Had to go there.
Speaker 6 (15:35):
No, I love how she Actually, the best thing is
when someone else writes for you, right when they write,
we give you your nickname. I don't like when people
give themselves that their own nickname.
Speaker 4 (15:44):
It's it's just weird. It feels kind of thirsty. But
that's again, that's just my take. Could be good personal.
Speaker 6 (15:50):
But I think she means magnetic because I try to
bring the kind of energy that I believe into everything,
even like what we're doing right now, or if we're
doing red carpets or doing sound whatever it is. I
think it's something you learn in the Bay Area where
no one goes unnoticed.
Speaker 4 (16:06):
You know, if you're in the music game in the
Bay Area. That's why it's so strong.
Speaker 1 (16:10):
California guy. Yeah, you know when when I post on Instagram,
I saw all the pictures with you on the on
the out of the water and the mountain. So you
definitely you seem like you're definitely enjoying life.
Speaker 2 (16:25):
Yep. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (16:25):
I mean I love sports, you know, skydiving and rock
climbing and like you probably saw me on the jet
ski and things like that. I mean, if you're gonna
live in California and pay these taxes, you better enjoy it.
Speaker 2 (16:36):
Did anybody else have any questions or comments?
Speaker 6 (16:39):
Well, I appreciate everyone here, and uh yeah, if I
answered all your questions great And now you can always
follow me to Jason Box at Jason Box and if
you spell it right, you'll always find me.
Speaker 4 (16:49):
So it's j A Y S, I N D O
x X everywhere.
Speaker 9 (16:55):
What's good, Joe? I couldn't I couldn't get to my phone,
but I wanted to take something. I just I just
want to I just want to ask you a question. Okay,
how long have you been doing music since I was.
Speaker 4 (17:08):
Five years old. I mean first I started in church
and school. Uh.
Speaker 6 (17:12):
You know a lot of times the choir director would
get real mad at me because I didn't blame you.
Speaker 4 (17:17):
So that kind of made me become a solo artist
at a young age.
Speaker 9 (17:22):
Oh yeah, that's what's up, man?
Speaker 2 (17:25):
Oh no, that's what but hey, you doing your thing though?
Speaker 8 (17:28):
I like it?
Speaker 4 (17:29):
Though, I like it, Thank you so much. Yeah, I
hope everybody's feeling what I'm trying to do. You know,
definitely pop hip hop.
Speaker 6 (17:35):
You know, there's a fun mixture because like I said
earlier that I just feel like the energy is there,
you know, even if you don't have like this massive
amount of fireworks or whatever, which seems to be kind
of going along with most pop acts. I don't really
see myself as like the typical pop act. That's one
reason why I love what Bruno does, because I don't
see him as typical either.
Speaker 1 (17:55):
Okay, just put your Instagram in the chat. That's all
I do is click that link. Follow everybody back us
on here to following.
Speaker 7 (18:03):
You coming getting cold?
Speaker 4 (18:09):
Where'd you meet a girl? Come and get a girl
and let them stop? And let's get dropped, and now
to show me.
Speaker 3 (18:15):
How you made loads an escalad.
Speaker 4 (18:18):
I want to drive the world.
Speaker 3 (18:19):
The size of your Caula carr. You can't get too fagging.
Speaker 4 (18:29):
And Nike ordination for.
Speaker 7 (18:32):

it when everybody goes right to left.
Speaker 4 (18:43):

Speaker 7 (18:44):
The battle, Get you out of the bad get.
Speaker 3 (18:51):

Speaker 5 (18:57):
Your success, by the.
Speaker 4 (19:00):

Speaker 5 (19:01):
I'll get you out of bed.
Speaker 6 (19:03):

Speaker 4 (19:04):

Speaker 10 (19:06):

Speaker 4 (19:06):
That's my leave.
Speaker 5 (19:08):
Well aware, pipy upstairs, baby, you've done to share. I

Speaker 5 (19:20):
I've got tooth that needs your go open. Send the
gate whatever, I get you out of it.
Speaker 3 (19:29):
