To whitewash is a metaphor meaning "to gloss over or cover up vices, crimes or scandals or to exonerate by means of a perfunctory investigation or through biased presentation of data".

Hypocrisy is the practice of engaging in the same behavior or activity for which one criticizes another. In moral psychology, it is the failure to follow one's own expressed moral rules and principles.

The Bible had a lot more to say about the whitewashed graves of hypocrisy than I thought.

This is what watv.org shared on the subject in 2010...

Quote

Eze 13:10-15 " ‘Because they lead my people astray, saying, "Peace," when there is no peace, and because, when a flimsy wall is built, they cover it with whitewash, therefore tell those who cover it with whitewash that it is going to fall. Rain will come in torrents, and I will send hailstones hurtling down, and violent winds will burst forth . . . I will tear down the wall you have covered with whitewash and will level it to the ground so that its foundation will be laid bare. When it falls, you will be destroyed in it; and you will know that I am the LORD. So I will spend my wrath against the wall and against those who covered it with whitewash. I will say to you, "The wall is gone and so are those who whitewashed it, . . ." '' "

Apostle Paul said to the high priest Ananias who sinned against God by hindering the gospel, "You whitewashed wall!"

Ac 23:1-3 Paul looked straight at the Sanhedrin and said, "My brothers, I have fulfilled my duty to God in all good conscience to this day." At this the high priest Ananias ordered those standing near Paul to strike him on the mouth. Then Paul said to him, "God will strike you, you whitewashed wall! . . ."

Jesus compares the hypocritical teachers of the law and Pharisees to whitewashed tombs.

Mt 23:27-28 "Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of dead men''s bones and everything unclean. In the same way, on the outside you appear to people as righteous but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness."

False prophets make a habit of doing detestable things, deceive people and shut the kingdom of heaven in their faces. They are like whitewashed tombs, which look clean and beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of everything unclean. So, they can never escape the punishment of hell.

Mt 23:14-15 "Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You shut the kingdom of heaven in men''s faces. You yourselves do not enter, nor will you let those enter who are trying to. Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You travel over land and sea to win a single convert, and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of hell as you are."

Mt 23:33 "You snakes! You brood of vipers! How will you escape being condemned to hell?"

Thus, the Bible likens false prophets and their denominations to whitewashed tombs; for even though a church is very big and gorgeous on the outward and it has long history and tradition, if it has no truth, it can never be a place of salvation.

Today, there are so many churches led by false prophets like whitewashed tombs in the world; they shut off the kingdom of heaven from people by deceiving them with falsehood and lawlessness while calling God, "Lord, Lord" (Mt 7:21- 23). The Bible refers to the false churches as spiritual Babylon. God wants His people to quickly come out of Babylon—a home for demons—which is full of wickedness and lawlessness, before the Judgment Day comes, so that they will not be condemned with them.

Rev 18:2-5 With a mighty voice he shouted: "Fallen! Fallen is Babylon the Great! She has become a home for demons and a haunt for every evil spirit, a haunt for every unclean and detestable bird. For all the nations have drunk the maddening wine of her adulteries. The kings of the earth committed adultery with her, and the merchants of the earth grew rich from her excessive luxuries." Then I heard another voice from heaven say: "Come out of her, my people, so that you will not share in her sins, so that you will not receive any of her plagues; for her sins are piled up to heaven, and God has remembered her crimes."

Now is the time to lead our heavenly brothers and sisters, who are dying in spiritual Babylon like a whitewashed tomb, into the refuge of salvation as quickly as possible.

Hey, okay, then turn this water off so you can
hear me. I have a quick question. You mean to
fix this? Okay? Can you see me? You can't see this?
Son turns? Can I think you can see now? Okay,

(01:39):
I think you can see that. Okay, So washing it
outside of this cup so you can see it. Really,
I'm washing, okay, so I'm gonna do it again. I'm
washing the outside of this cup. Is this cup clean?

(02:04):
Is this cup clean?

Speaker 1 (02:06):
Now?

Speaker 5 (02:06):
I just wash the outside of the cup and good again,
wash the outside of the cup. Is this cup clean?
It is this vessel that we use to pour into
and pour out of? Is this vessel clean? It's not
like y'all looking at me like for real, look at

(02:28):
all that. Would you use this cup to drink out
of us? Would you use this cup? It off? Would
you receive a cup like this with water or something
in it to drink.

Speaker 1 (02:38):
Out of you?

Speaker 5 (02:39):
Like? You've got to be I'm my mad, I gotta
be at my man to give somebody a cup like
this and this is it's a Taco Bell cup, y'all.
But I use the Taco Bell cups because they clear.
I don't like clear stuff. But the reason that I
mentioned that, Now I'm washing it on the inside, and

(02:59):
now hours so I'm wash it on INSI now it's
clean because I've washed it on the insect. But I'm
using this illustration to share something with you. God's word
is what we wash ourselves with. Now we wash out
of our bodies all the time. I do not know

(03:22):
anybody that will not get in the shower and take
a nice long high shower, hye bath and wash themselves
after a long days of work. I don't know anybody
who would not do that. Now, let's it's clean now,
all right, and I fell dish washing, okay, so quick,

(03:46):
all right. So I use that as a demonstration to
share this. When you do not read God's word, when
you do not sit and meditate on God's Word as
you open it and read it, whether you're opening it
on your phone using a Bible app, or whether you

(04:09):
are opening a physical Bible. I like hire back books.
I like paperback books. I like the actual physical book.
So I use both the physical book and I use
the apps. But It is only when you sit and
read God's word that you're washing on the inside. Now,
my outer vessel is nice and clean, but my inner

(04:33):
vessel would look like that cup did if I did
not sit with the word of God. That's what Jesus
meant when Jesus said, unless you are born of water
and spirit, you will not into end. See, unless you're
born again, you will not into into the Kingdom of heavens.
That's I mean, you would not see the Kingdom of

(04:54):
the heavens. That's what it is. Unless you're born of
water and spirit, you will not into end. We need
to wash, we need to bathe in the world of God.
And so you guys, listen, you go to church all
day long. But church going to church and sitting and
letting somebody preach to you, you could turn on a

(05:16):
like right now, I get can I turn this round?
I can't turn this.

Speaker 3 (05:19):
Wrestle and turn this away?

Speaker 5 (05:20):
Right now? I have that is an international house of praise,
and I have them playing and I am enjoying their
freestyle and free flow of praise and worship and music
that's actually helping me get this kitchen cream. Because this
girl is tired. This girl is tired from earlier today

(05:42):
when I spent myself outside with Dad getting that for
yard clean. So, with that being said, as I do
these dishes, and I was thinking about that, and I
had been one to share this for a while, I've
been one to share that cup, like, not that particular cup,
but the analogy of a dirty cup. You could wash
the outside all day long, you could clean up your

(06:05):
outer self all day long, but if you don't do
the work on the inside, you're just a white wash gray.
That's what Jesus, what Jesus called him, Pharisees, a whitewash gray.
They had to clean. They looked clean on the outside
and they had that appearance of being clean, but inside
they were full of dirt and bones. And y'all gotta read.

(06:26):
And let me tell you, Jesus he was not asked up.
And when he was talking and teaching y'all, he didn't
leave low song unturned. So this is not gonna be
a long video. It's I've already been five minutes. I'm
about to cut it out right now. I'm about to
shut it down right now. But again, it is important
that we read God's work. It is important that we

(06:46):
sit and meditate on it as we read it. Not
just read it to be reading words, but when we
think about what it is that we're reading, think about
what we're reading tells us about God and his personality,
what he's telling us about us, and how he's preparing
us and wanting us and loving on us and teaching us.

(07:07):
You know, we get all that from God's word. Everything
we need is found in the Word of God. But
until you sit and read it, you are like that
dirty cup that I showed. Could watch all day loan
the outside, but if the inside ain't clean. Y'all heard
that saying about a woman she gonna be pretty? Is
it's just as pretty as she.

Speaker 1 (07:27):
Want to be.

Speaker 5 (07:28):
But when she opened the mouth, if everything in her
is negative, if negativity comes, that that pretty person on
the outside will be therefore ugly on the inside. Okay,
so but that band said you come on, But that
band said again, make sure you reading in God's word
and washing in God's word, because that's the only way
that you're going to be clean inside.

Speaker 1 (07:49):
And that I are you laying on the beach and
your board as ever, I'm the same way. My name
is Bluff and I'm with spin Quest that's s p I,
