we being able to chop it uptalk about this word. So I'm just
glad and grateful that you guys aretuning in with me. All right,
So today I'm talking about examining yourself, examining yourself. You guys know that
(03:53):
I'm an instructor educator, and sothrough you I've given numerous exams. I've
taken numerous exams. I'm a verygood test taker, that's uh. You
know, I've even went to seminarson test taking skills and strategies, and
uh, you know, I'm avery good test taker. But some people
are not good test takers. They'renot good at exams. It's not you
(04:15):
know, some people are hands on, you know, or they just kind
of get nervous and anxiety with testsand things like that. But uh,
you know, when we have anexam, that's going to be a test,
right that we have to take. And so here we're saying to exam
yourself, to give yourself an exam, all right, we want to examine
ourselves. So let's read the scripture, all right. If you have your
(04:38):
Bibles you can turn with me,or if you have it on your phone
or the app. You know,it's good to go to the word with
the person when you're reading the word. You know, so often we just
kind of listening and we just takefor what they're what they're saying is that's
what it is. But go lookand read it for yourself, because I
might be interpreting it wrong, andyou can help me get a better understanding
that may we be helpless of oneanother. Iron sharpens iron. All right,
(05:00):
Let's see tewod Corinthians thirteen and fivesays, examine yourselves to see whether
you are in the faith? Testyourselves. Do you not realize that Christ
Jesus is in you, unless,of course you feel the test? All
(05:23):
right, let's take a word ofprayer real quick. Dear heavenly Father,
Lord, we just thank you foranother day that was a promise to us.
God. God. We thank youfor you being the author of all
things. God. We know thatyou are over all. You are in
control God, and we just thankyou Lord. And no matter what's going
on in our lives, no matterwhat's going on in this world, God,
we know that you're gonna work itGod for our good. God.
You say you work all things togetherfor the good of those who love you
(05:45):
and a call according to your purpose. God. And we thank you right
now God for your unfailing love.God. You're unwavering love God. God.
I asked that you would just helpus be with us, lead us
and Gods as we journey through thisWord on tonight. God, God use
me God like only you can.God. Let it not be self that's
in the way. God, butlet me be able to move self out
of the way and let the spiritbe able to lead God in this Bible
(06:06):
study on tonight. God, Iasked you to let it touch somebody's heart.
God, touch their minds. God, touch their ears. God,
let them hear what the spirit ofsaying. God. Those that you are
calling and drawing near to you,God, let them respond. God.
Let us be doers of your wordGod, not just hears. God.
Continue to keep us. God.We love you, and we thank you
in Jesus' name. Amen. Allright, Amen a man, Amen,
(06:28):
all right. So remember the wholepoint of this Bible study is just for
us to come together to talk aboutthe Word of God. To get into
the Word of God. Learn moreabout the Word of God. You learn
ways practical ways to apply the Wordof God to our lives. Just to
be thinking about it. You know, those of us who you know,
I have friends and loved ones, people that are connected to me that I
(06:50):
just want to engage with with theword of God, and so that's what
we're doing. So hey, shame, Hey shame. I'm glad you're here.
Listen for y'all. Don't know Kennedyhit five three pointers tonight. I'm
spoiling it for Shade'm not letting hertailor. Did New Love telling it?
Kennedy hit five three pointers tonight ofher game? I'm so I wish I
could have seen it, but Shadinggo live. You know she wasn't on
(07:11):
her job. But it's okay.God loves you anyway, and so do
I. All Right, So somethings we could think about when we're examining
ourselves, because, like I wassaying, as an instructor, when you're
give an exam, there's questions onthat exam. Right. That's how you
know whether you know the information ornot, right, whether you have been
able to retain what you've learned,is you have to answer questions. So
I have written a few questions thatyou know, I think will help us
(07:35):
when we're examining ourselves. So here'ssome questions that you can ask yourself.
Number one, have I been bornagain? Right? You can ask yourself
that when you're examining yourself. HaveI been born again? Have I been
made new? Have I gone througha sanctification process? Right? Where God
(07:58):
has been dealing with me, pruningme, taking things away from me?
Has there been? Have I takena period of consecration to consecrate myself?
Right? Has my heart been circumcised? Hey? Delicia? Heyis? Thank
you so much for tuning in ontonight. I appreciate you. Good to
(08:18):
see you. Hope everything as well? All right? Has my heart been
circumcised? Right? Or even betteryet? Just baremental thinking? Am I
living right? Right? When isthe last time you looked in the mirror,
looked your own self in the eyes? Just look dead and listen.
That's an exercise. If you've neverdone that, I encourage you to do
(08:41):
that. It is a powerful exercise. Just to go and stand in the
mirror and just look at yourself inthe mirror eye to eye right and be
real with yourself about who you are, about where you are, Examine yourself.
Am I living right? Am Iliving according to how scripture says that
(09:03):
I should live? Why? AmI living according to the scripture? And
that's why we're learning this scripture. We're reading this scripture so that we can
start to be able to be equippedto examine ourself. How can I examine
myself and say, if I'm livingaccording to the scripture and I don't know
what's in the scripture, if Idon't ever read the scripture, i'll ever
study the scripture? Then how canI truly examine myself to see if I'm
(09:26):
living up to it? Right? And so I think I want to encourage
you to take that time out lookin the mirror, takes it and that
means some time. Don't just realquickly get you, No, take some
time, take ten, fifteen totwenty minutes, stare at yourself in the
mirror, and if examine yourself.Am I living the way that God says
that I should be living? DoI know how the Scripture says that I
(09:48):
should be living? Do I knowwhat sin is? Somebody type being?
What is sin? If somebody sayswhat is sin? What is sin?
Somebody tell me what is that? What would be your definition of sin?
(10:13):
We know there's lots of different typesof sins, there's lots of different ways
of sin. We know that there'sroots of sin. We know people talking
about the seven, the seven deadlysins, the roots of sin. Hey
cousins every day? How you doingThat's right? Doing wrong? Okay?
Very good, very good? Doingwrong? Anybody else have anything on there?
You want to say? Transgression fromGod's law? Hey, ain't Lisa?
(10:39):
How you doing? Yes, firstlady, transgression from God's law?
Okay? Anybody else want to share? Because we know, we know we
can define things in so many differentways. Going against God's word very good,
assists very good, going against God'sword, And so I agree with
(11:01):
all those things those and they're allone and the same if you really think
about it, an offense against God. Right when we're sinning, we're causing
an offense against God. And thatreally should make us feel some type of
way, right, think about it, even with your earthly parents, okay,
Uh, you never want to disappointyour parents, right when. Whenever
(11:22):
you disappoint your parents, you feelsome kind of way about that, you
know, whenever I know, Ilet my mama down, or I let
my daddy down like they were expectingmore from me, or you know,
and and there's this feeling and youjust feel down and you feel sorrowful,
repentful. You know you're not okaythat you have done something to make make
(11:48):
make your father disappointed or to makeyour mother disappointed. We should be the
same way with God. We shouldhave that feeling of hurt and discuss when
we disappoint our heavenly father. Right, and when can you ask yourself when
is the last time you felt badabout disappointing God? When is the last
(12:11):
time you even thought about if youwere disappointing God? Right? If your
actions are disappointing God? Because sometimesI believe sometimes people there's some sins that
we sin, and we and youdon't know it, right, but they're
sins where you know that you aresinning, you know that this is an
(12:31):
offense against God, and you're stilldoing it when you're doing those when you're
committing those acts sin, is theresorrow? Do you have sorrow that you're
doing that or that you're dishonoring Godor that you know you may be disappointing
God? That's right? We shouldhave godly sorrow. That's right for what
(12:52):
for what we're doing. And sowe know that so when we think about
sin, theeing we know started uhwith Adam, right, We know that
that that Adam and Eve ate theapple, and and so then we know
through that the Bible says through oneman seeing into the world, and and
uh so and through another. Uhlet me see, I got that riding
that hold on. I think I'mgonna I think I wrote it. I
(13:16):
think I got it down. Hmmm, I'm so sorry. Okay, I
(13:41):
thought I had that scripture. Butit's if there's a scripture, if anybody
knows that, you can write itfor me. But it was saying through
one man seeing into the world, through Adam, you know. And so
because of that fall of man,we know that we're all born with a
sinful nature. We're all born intosin. So checked the iniquity everybody,
(14:01):
everybody that comes out of a womb, we're all born into sin, all
right. And so because Adam andEve were disobedient to God, and so
we're gonna talk about that real quickly. There's a Ted Haggard. He had
a quote and he said, sinwill take you further than you ever intended
to go. It will cost youmore than you ever expected to pay,
(14:24):
and it will keep you longer thanyou ever intended to stay. And man,
can I get a witness on thatcavity? I can attest it that
I know, I can attest tothat right, and we know that we
learned last week that Satan has aplan, right, we know that God
has a plan for us. Satanhas a plan. Whose plan are you
participating in? Whose plan are youbeing an active participant in your You know
(14:48):
what you're doing is lining up withthat plan? Who's playing? Whose side
are you as't tadman? Who sideare you leaning on? Who plan are
you with? Right? So weknow the enemy has a plan. Satan
comes to do what still kill anddestroyed? Right? That is his plan.
He is a problem around looking forwho he made devour. So we
know that Satan has a plan.Right. It's like, uh, you
(15:13):
know when you start to I rapabout it one of my songs, I
say, you know you you tip, you dip, keep tipping in that
scene, right and they say youknow you the slid and feel right head
first you all the way in it? Right? That's what That's what the
enemy, the enemy, he enticesus a little bit, right, you
know what? You know, hegives you a little bit. Mi ain't
(15:35):
marrion. She loved to go fishing, right, and so she she a
fishing. She she gets up veryvery early. Do I still do like
outside and goals, and she likesshe loves to go fishing fish all day
and so, uh, you know, I know in fishing my whole family
that we real fishing family. AndI don't fish that much, but I
come from a fishing family, butI have fish, and I know that
(15:56):
the wan, what you really wantto use is a live bait. Ain't
that right? I got in thefishes on people fishingmen out here that people
like the fish. You want touse live bait so that it's moving and
it's catching the eye of the fishis coming by, right, And then
all you gotta do is they hadto let their live bait do what it's
gonna do. And once they fishsnap onto it, it's hooked, right.
(16:18):
And what happened after that real itin and put that in it?
Their fish be flapping on the ground. Anybody else seen how fish do?
You put them out of the waterand they on the ground. The boy
be flapping hat popping away way upin the air. They be popping them
fish flopping right because they they they'rehelpless right, death is near. I'm
(16:40):
out of my habitat. I'm onthis ground. I supposed to be in
the water. N flapping. That'swhat the that's a trap, like the
enemy said for us, right, that temptation, that thin that he's put
on the LOWI that live bait, and he waiting on us to not resist
the temptation. He waited on usto take just a little bit. All
(17:00):
you need to taste a little bit, because once you taste a little bit,
that hook gonna catch you. Right. That why sometimes them fish to
be real quick. You betting, get it and you pull your bait out
of most your baby gone because themfish they be quick. Niblo ona that
it. But that's what save more. You want you to try to try
to think you slick, Try tothink you quick, Try to think it's
not you're not gonna be affected.Nikko on nibbl on kneas second tack and
(17:21):
then Satan will hook you with thatsin and pull you out of safety,
pull you out of that water andthis thing. You know, you're flapping
on the ground like a fish. And why did he do that? Why
did Satan tempt you and lure you? Because now he can do what devour
you now that you're flopping on theground, right, And the longer you
(17:44):
stay there, right, the longeryou stay in that position, uh,
the the the weaker, that you'regonna be right. So his his Satan
is trying to get you to bein the flesh. Right. He wants
you to please the flesh, satisfyyour flesh. That's what he's wanting you
(18:07):
to do. And so when yougive into that and he starts keeping your
mind, keep keeping your mind onthings of the flesh. Right, That's
how you got you. He keepingyour mind on things of the flesh.
Remember we talked about we for lastfeeding whatever you feed the most, that's
what's gonna grow the most. Ifyou're feeding the flesh, the flesh is
(18:32):
gonna grow the most. If you'refeeding the spirit, the spirit is gonna
grow the most. Whatever you're feeding. So if Satan can keep you feeding
that flesh, he can keep youin the flesh, thinking about the flesh,
satisfying the flesh. The longer hecan keep you there, the better
chance that he has of destroying you. That's right, a fish out of
water says, the longer go,the longer Satan can keep you out of
(18:53):
safety, the better chance he hasof devour you. Right. Think about
like a while, a lion ora pit bull that's more reasonable. Think
about a pit bull. If apit bull grab you and bite you,
but you can get away quick, you know, you might you're gonna have
bruise or you know, a scar, or you might have to go to
the doctor, gets teaches something. But you're gonna be able to survive a
(19:15):
lot better then if you lay thereand that pit bull is just having his
way. The longer you later, the more chance you have of devouring you.
And that's what the enemy is.The longer you stay in the flesh,
the longer that you ignore the spiritand you annoyed getting your spirit man
stronger, but better chance, saythan has to destroy you, to devour
(19:37):
you to his if we come tokill, steal and destroy, and if
we continue to just let later andlet it happen, and we're not fighting
right, we gotta fight the goodfight of faith. As long as we
just allow him to just have hisweight, then he's able to destroy us,
all right. And so we needto make sure that we are getting
(19:57):
in this word, getting equipped right, because what is the outcome of sin?
Who knows? Who can tell mereal fast? What is the outcome
of sin? Sin leads to whatI know? Everybody know this. Anybody
that if you've been to churching threetimes, you know this. The outcome
of sin is for the wages ofsin is let me see that. That's
(20:32):
right, ain't Lisa that well?We were saying, y k w w
ain't Lisa, you'll be winning. That's right. Okay, they coming in,
all right, that's right, allright, So it says, let
me read it to you Romans, tell me yall, thank you for joining
me tonight, hey, cousin, all right, Romans six and twenty three.
(20:53):
All right, So when Roman sixin twenty three, for the wages
of sin is death, but gotlittle buts. But the gift of God
is eternal life in Christ Jesus ourlord. Right, So the wages of
sin, what is a wage?Just a payment? Right? So what
you have to pay for your sinis death. But what happened Jesus died
(21:18):
on the cross, so he paidfor our sins. But if you do
not accept the gift, right, salvation is a gift. So if we
don't, it's just. But thegift of God is eternal life. So
we have to accept God's gifts ofsalvation. Right, And how do we
accept God's gift of salvation Roman's tenand nine that if thou will confess with
(21:42):
thy mouth the Lord Jesus, andbelieve in thine heart that God has raised
him from the death, thou shaltbe saved. Right. So it's our
faith that we were saved right bygrace through faith. And then what is
the by because right here in asecond Corinthians, it says, examining yourself?
(22:06):
Why why are we examining ourselves tosee whether you are in the faith?
Amen, you need to know ifyou are in the faith, if
we are, so we said, seeing leads to death. Right, So
it's we're talking about spiritual death.Right, spiritual death. It could come
(22:32):
up on you so quick. Spiritualdeath happens one compromise at a time,
right, one little thing at atime. Right, you're tipping and oh
then just then that's how grad getit get a hold of you. And
then you start what backslide, slidingback right from the things that we know
(22:56):
to do. Right, if we'renot taking an active role and act,
we're not taking active steps in growingcloser to God and getting to know who
God is, in studying this wordand getting it in our hearts. Right,
if we're not growing closer to God, we are drawing farther further away
(23:18):
from God. You going one wayor the other, united, staying neutral.
Right, So, if you're notdoing something actively to be growing close
to God, then you already know. If I'm not actively, if I'm
not going to church, if I'mnot going to Bible study, if I'm
not going to Sunday School, ifI'm not studying the Word, if I'm
not praying and talking to God,if I'm not doing anything to strengthen my
(23:42):
relationship with God to get closer toGod, then that means I'm getting further
away. Right. We talk aboutit like in the natural all the time
about just relationships with people. Unlessyou talk to somebody, the further away
you feel from them. The moreyou talk to somebody, the closer you
(24:03):
feel to them. And that's thesame thing with God. The more we're
talking to him, the more timewe're spending with him, the more time
we're spending in his word, thecloser we're getting to him. If we're
not doing those things, then whatare we doing. We're getting further away
from Him. And if we're gettingfurther away from him, what are we
getting closer to spiritual death. That'swhat we're getting close to. So we
(24:30):
should be looking for having just anawareness of God's presence. Hey, Rachel,
how you doing? Thank you somuch for tuning in having an awareness
of God's presence around us. Weshould be able to see God's power in
our lives. Are you experiencing God'spower in your life? Are you experiencing
(24:55):
God's presence in your life? Whenyou're examining yourself? Be real, just
self. You know that if youif you're not having any encounters with God,
if you don't feel like you knowGod, if you don't know who
God is, if you don't feellike you know how to pray, everybody
pray talk to God. Right. You don't have to be scholarly or uh
(25:21):
you know, use the big words. You just talk to God, right,
tell them all about it, Confessyour sins, tell them who you
are, telling you sorry, tellthem the change, you tell them to
help you. Right. And andwe just talked to him, right,
because without God we cannot overcome sin. Right. We know that Jesus died
(25:44):
on the cross, the blood right. That is how we over come sin.
The blood will cover under the bloodright. And we have the Holy
Spirit to empower us, to helpus to be able to resist. The
Bible says over in the Hebrews.Over in he brewis the coffee. He
(26:11):
brewis the coffee. She doesn't formarried people, Okay, Hebrews twelve and
one. Therefore, since we aresurrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses,
let us throw off everything that hindersand the sin that so easily entangles,
and let us run with perseverance therace marked out for us. Everybody
(26:33):
has their own race. We allrun our own race at our own pace.
Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and the perfector of
our faith, who, for thejoy set before him, endured the cross,
scorning its shame, and sat downat the right hand of the throne
of God. God is calling usright to live a life that is holy
(27:10):
and pleasing and acceptable to Him,a life of sacrifice. Right. And
so, if we are desiring toovercome sin, we have to lay aside
every weight that hinders us. Wehave to submit to God. Right,
(27:32):
we have to submit up under him, Let him lead us, let him
guide us. Does that mean we'regonna be perfect? No, We're not
perfect, But it does mean thatwe're gonna be striving to live a life
that's pleasing to God. We're gonnabe striving to make sure that when the
flesh is crying out, that wecrucify it. When temptation comes upon us,
(27:56):
that we've run. The Bible says, Jane, I believe it's James,
and open James. Okay, Yes, and James, it says,
but he gives us more grace. This is what script This is why Scripture
(28:19):
says God opposes the proud, buthe gives grace to the humble. Submit
yourselves then to God. Resist thedevil and he will flee from you.
That's what we have to do.We have to resist the devil and he
will flee. That's James four anduh in seven four and seven. Resist
(28:44):
the devil and he will flee. When when that when he's dingling that that
dangling that bait that's on that hook, that bait of sin, that bit
of temptation, right, he's danglingit over your head. Resist, run,
run from it, and that's howyou'll be able to start to overcome
(29:07):
it, says. The Bible says, He always provides a way of escape.
God always provides a way of escape. He's not gonna let you be
tempted beyond what you can stand. That's what the Word tells us. And
he's gonna provide a way for youto get out, to get away from
that scene. He's not gonna leaveyou there where there's no other option.
There is a way of escape. We have to mortify sin and work on
(29:29):
weights that easily beset us. Amen, we have to do the work.
We have to examine ourselves. It'sabout you, it ain't about me.
I'm not on here saying oh,I know what you be doing well,
I know you do that. Well, I'm not doing that. I'm in
(29:52):
here just like you, trying tolearn, trying to read, trying to
grow, striving. But we don'twant to have a closed eye. We
don't want to turn our eyes awayfrom the world of God and what God
is telling us. Right. Weknow that we're living in some trying times
and this Bible study that we're doing. I know y'all probably think, you
(30:15):
know, she just keep harping aboutliving for God and living saved and visin
yourbody, living sertrifrice. I meanwe could dive into a revelations or Daniel
or Matthew and talk about some scarytimes. Right sometimes that look like we're
living in right now. It lookslike, you know, with the war
(30:36):
rising up out of the Middle Eastand everything that's happening coming over from Syria,
and it's just like all kinds ofdifferent things that we could really talk
about this shake us up. Butwhat good? What good is talking about
all of that? And we firstthing needs to be first, And that's
just knowing that if we saved andif we're living right God called me home
Marboro. Am I ready to go? If God call me home tonight?
(30:57):
If I lay down tonight, Ido not. And I'm not blessed to
open my eyes tomorrow. Will Ibe lifting up my eyes in front of
a angry judge or a sweet savior? Will I be hearing well done by
a good and faithful servant? Ordepart from me? You work of iniquity?
(31:21):
I know you not. That's allI just want us to look at
that. What are we gonna hear? What are you gonna hear? If
it was right now boom, it'syour time right now, what are you
gonna hear? It's important for usto think about that, to look at
that. Remember, if you arenot saved. You can get saved anytime.
Just talk to Lord. Tell themLord, I know I am a
(31:44):
sinner, Please forgive me. Ibelieve that Christ Jesus died and rose again
so that I might be saved withall power in his hand. Come into
my life. Lord, Come tomy heart, change my heart to live
me, set me free, saveme. He's waiting on you. He's
(32:07):
prolonging the time for you. Hisgrace is sufficient for you. And so
I just want you to know thatI love you. God loves you.
He's calling you. God's calling you. Come on. Okay, I'm sorry.
I know it's some people out heresaying I wish she quits saying,
but I'm gonna keep on saying.I know I'm a rapper, but I

sang in my own mind so lowthat nobody can hear me. All right,
So tonight, y'all, my specialguests. I'm so excited to bring
in my special guests on tonight. He was set to go from college football
to the NFL, but God hadsomething else. His life got derailed and
God had something else in store forhim. And so I want him to
(32:50):

God has done in his life. And tonight it's his birthday, so we
really want to turn up with himand thank you for celebrating with us on

I got it, form, Igot let me hold on see since everybody
want to say happy birthday and tellhim this is how you really show some
(34:22):
love. See you showing out,You're showing out. I'm showing that.
I'm showing that. Listen, hiscashap is dollar sign man of purpose.
Oh four dollars sign M A NO F P U R P O S
E oh four okay, man apurpose. See y'all, hay go and
(34:44):
give this young man some dollars.Even if you give him one dollar,
that's a dollar more than he had. Amen, what now you're preaching?
That's right, that's right. Timepeople be like, well, I can't
give him twenty ain't give nothing.Give him a dollar. A dollar is
more than what he had. Soif you just see the dollar, I
think it's probably about twenty people onhere. So twenty people send that one
(35:07):
dollar. That's twenty dollars. Ayoung man can go buy some nice lunch
tomorrow while white work. When youget out and the right, yeah,
oh yeah, oh yeah. Let'stell the people's let's start where do you
want to start it with your story? Man? Well, first off,
Mississippi born and raised, one tradedfor nothing. I might visit somewhere,
(35:29):
but I ain't going nowhere else tomake it home. I hear, I
hee. We got one street likey'all, we got one street light.
It's it. We got one smallsmall town, small town. Okay,
yeah, that's my hometown. Youknow, by the way, what's your
hometown? Call Tyler of Town,Tylortown, Tyler Town. I'm trying to
(35:53):
say it properly because you know,I talk funny, you know, I'm
you know, i'd stay how it'ssupposed to be said and not how I
say, you know, but itain't working out too good something right now?
Yeah, there you gonna Tyle Town. See I might say Tyler Time.
Okayler Town. You know what I'msaying. I'm with you. I'm
(36:17):
okay, you're born raised Tytown,Mississippi, right right straight out the country.
Okay, okay, you know yourown role to be a big college
football player. So you know, you know, I graduated from North Pike
High School. That's in Summing.I'm more. I stayed with my grandma
to high school, you know,in some in Mississippi. So I say
(36:40):
I'm from talent toown my way somethingslash. Some might have heard them com
Mississippi. But you know, graduatedhigh school college scholarship. You know how
they go young kids in the athletics, you know, But sometimes we have
the tendency to get distracted by otherthings. You know. But in the
midst of you know, I wasin college and stuff, saying, playing
(37:04):
ball doing good, you know, but like I was saying, it was
some distress of your kid in college, we like the party, had fun,
get in all kinds of other stuff. You know. I'm going with
it, you know, and youknow, and in the midst of doing
that, I kind of begin tolose a little focused, you know.
And you know, God he hadthe way of getting our attention. Sometimes
we might even try to ignore putit to the side, or we want
(37:28):
to do what we want to do, right, We try to live in
the moment. We caught up onthese fleshy things, you know what I'm
saying. You know, so Iwas ignoring things. So, you know,
Hurricane Katrina two thousand and five, all was twenty ninth, I'll never
forget. You know. We werein college, you know, I was
(37:50):
walking to the cafeteria with a fewof my friends, and the weather wasn't
all really that bad, you know, and but the wind was going the
little rain but I just my babymissing with me, y'all. She won't
leave the door, y'all had thebedroom. She I keep trying to tell
the lead, y'all see me keeptrying to close the door, but she
(38:10):
keep trying. She said, outfor you. But you know, during
the store, you know, makea lost story, shot a tree belt
on walking to the cafeteria. Youknow, I don't remember it. I
don't remember, you know, Iwas out of it and h are you
saying? Are you saying like atrue like? Well, it took several
(38:37):
of my teammates to lift it upout for me, and they say that
what they told me, you know, so it was pretty uh had nicely
sides on it, you know, and cut it cush. I don't remember
nothing, you know. I rememberuh, waking up in the hospital,
coming to in the hospital, youknow, and you know things that was
told me that I tried to getup and walk to the interior after they
(39:00):
picked it up, but they toldme that oreprenounces dead, you know on
the news that all corn student waskilled by Hurricane Katrina accident. You know,
and you know, I'm not knowingwhat's going on, you know,
being the storm back my parents andmy kin folks say, can't nobody get
(39:21):
to me because trees all in theroad, you know, gas stations running
out of gas, you know, things of that nature. And oh,
but end up crushing my skull. You know, right now I have I
have five plates in my face rightnow. Clushed my skull. And I
was told that I want't be ableto play football no more. You know,
you know what corn that'sion doing thebraids. I forgot to mention that
(39:47):
our carn braids division one, Imean scholarship. That means you falling.
You're not just playing something D two. You you at the school, you
know it was okay, I wasall right. I was very decent.
You know, I could play alittle bit. I want to stroke my
own go too much. You knowwhat position were you playing? It?
(40:12):
Play defensive end right right, precedingall comference defensive end, preseason all com
And so walk into the calf,A tree falls and knocks you and crushes
your school right and where you gofrom there? I was told I couln't
play no more. Now I'm gonnaplay no more football. But you know
(40:34):
I wouldn't let that determine my destiny, you know, I was determined,
you know, I believe, youknow, sometimes we got to believe in
some things, you know. Andso when when when I when I got
make okay, you know, Isaid, I'm going back to try out,
say if I can get my scholarshipback. And so when spring rolled
around, I walked on and youknow, I can play someboll you know
(40:57):
what I'm saying. And look andjust I up fifty sixty pound weight loss
I had. Look, I wasweighing like forty five. I came back
out like one ninety two hundred, you know, and got my position back
and got a starting position. Iain't just get back on the team and
getting my scholarship back. I gaineda starting position and came back to next
(41:19):
season that had an outbreak season thatdrew a lot of attention from you know,
NFL Scotts and things like that. You know. Yeah, but guess
what though, what I still wasn'topen. I still see the forest for
the trees, you know. Look, I fell back into that lifestyle,
you know, and doing this party, having fun. You know what I'm
(41:43):
saying. I'm thinking. I'm saying, I'm alright, you know, And
I heard you mentioning something about youknow, spending time with God, a
relationship with God, whiles up withhe's praying or talking to him or going
to church, Bible school, Sundayschool, whatever it might be. I
wasn't doing none of those things, you know, and have no relationship.
We didn'mit that time out, youknow. But you know, when we
get in a situation, the firstthing we say, Lord, get me
(42:07):
out of this. I ain't gonnado it no more. But getting back
to what we consider this day, like we back during the same thing,
and that was me. I know, somebody can relate, you know that
that was me. You know, yeah, that was me. And you
know I started doing things and inthe loose every reason. I was told
(42:31):
you play one more season and Imay not have to finish college, you
know, but me being enough toahead getting in trouble, you know,
I ain't you know, Yeah, lost my scholarship. One go to school,
one go to class, and it'sletting me in a bad spot,
you know, letting me in abad spot, you know, and end
(42:52):
up going do some jail time, going to jail, like look like three
times, you know, and Istill because he first time I went got
out, still went at right. The second time I went went at right.
But that third time he set medown somewhere. You know, I
was facing twenty five to thirty years, you know, but but my God
(43:14):
said different. You know, Iended up doing four years in prison,
you know, verses twenty five orthirty, you know. So there was
a blessing itself. True enough,I was where I was at, but
it was still a blessing because Iain't got four years to do, you
know. So so that was ablessing, you know. And you know,
and so I begin my eyes beganto get a little open, right,
(43:35):
begin to get a little over, you know. So okay, now
at my second strike. Now thetree were her first strike, and now
right right, I'm about to strikeout. And I guess they say we
take that. With God being aforgiving god, we sometimes take advantage of
that though. Grace right, graceand his mercy right. And so I
(44:00):
got strips. Now, I madetwo stripes right, so I ain't got
out of jail. And then mylittle time came onto the house, you
know, and going on about mylife at job. You know, I
met my wife, you know, and we kick it off. You those
things seemed to be going good. But at the same time, the room
(44:22):
stuff is easy to get into. But the stuff you need to be doing
is supposed to be doing. That'swhat you had the tendency to straight from,
you know what I'm saying. Andso so you can probably imagine.
But I began kind of drifting off, you know, drifting off and into
that world again, you knowing,Yeah, and was heading nowhere, passed
(44:47):
nowhere fast, you know, andand the lose my me and my wife
be separated, you know, notbecause of her, but because of me
and the way I was living. You know. My wife, you know,
she spiritual person every that she ain'twant to live howard him. But
we ended up separating. And uh, it wasn't married. We at that
(45:08):
time, we had been married forabout we got married in fourteen. We
had been married about three or fouryears, about thirty four years. We
had been married about thirty four yearsaround that time, Okay, and so
and so it wasn't up til thenthat God opened my eyes to some things
that I didn't believe inn you know, things that I thought that you only
(45:30):
saw in movies and things like.He showed me what was really real,
you know, he showed me thatwe living in the spiritual world. But
even though I say I believe inhim, I talked to him, I
did that book lifestyle, was sayingdifferent, you know what I'm saying,
so, you know, right,So so he showed me that he was
(45:51):
real, you know, instead ofme just saying I believe, just I
believe, you know, he said, I'm gonna have to show this young
man that I'm really real, youknow. And then and it was at
that moment that I decided that Igot to change the way I'm living.
You know, I got different, you know, I got kids. I
got to be here for you know. And what I thought wasn't really really
(46:15):
real. We really living in thespiritual world, you know. And and
and where you going when you leavehere? That's the question, like you
asked them, why to go home? Well, you know, I'm trying
to be prepared because I know it'sreal. You know, it was a
long road to get while I'm atnow. But I ain't perfect, you
know. Our loan shot, youknow, But no sin is greater than
(46:37):
the next, you know. Andbut at the same time, the Bible
says that there are some who havea form of godliness, but they have
the power thereof right. So that'skind of like where you were saying,
like like you had a form ofgodliness, but you didn't it was things
you didn't believe it was real, right right, right power? Like I
(46:57):
said, we wrestled out against fleshand blood of people. Don't believe that
there is a spiritual warfare going spiritualwarfare, but your minds can't fathom or
understand that, you know. Butthen you know you can't have no conversations
with everybody. You know, everybodycan't you know, people get thinking you
(47:19):
crazy, you know, yeah, right right, right right? And I
guess that was me. I guessI was on that end until he showed
me. You know. Uh,you know, I got no And my
thing is this. I got friendsin the poor pit, I got friends
in the trap high, I gotfriends in the church. I got friends
(47:40):
in the street. You know whatI'm saying. But I don't look at
nobody no different. You know whatI'm saying, because I know I've been
and I know what I've been through. So who am I to judged because
this person living this lifestyle? Youknow, maybe maybe I can be an
influencer, inspiration or something to somebody. You know, you never know who's
paying attention, you know, soI don't I'm trying to down on nobody,
judge nobody, you know, regardlessof what their situation may be.
(48:05):
That's right, you know, man. Yeah, And I love that about
you. You've always been that way. You've always been real and genuine,
You've always been transparent. You know. We have a you know, we
have our own little group, ourlittle right right man, man, I
mine, I'll tell you. Imean, y'all even keep me laughing,
(48:25):
man, I know, and therun and everybody, yes, all of
our people, you know, andso we had that that group, uh,
and you know, it was justsuch a blessing because it was like
everybody was able to be transparent,to be real. And it's such an
encouragement when you know somebody else isgoing through something and this is how they
(48:50):
had, you know, because everybodytrying like their spiritual all the time and
we're not right right right right right. I really appreciate that in that within
our in group, that we canreally talk and just be real with each
other and say, you know, what we're going through or what we're struggling
with. And you've got to worryabout being judged, you knowed hearing about
(49:13):
it in the street, right, laugh about it, right, right,
Just to be able to encourage. And that's what I hope that this podcast
becomes for people, a place whereyou can talk about the word, discuss
the word, learn something, grow, share something, but just be real
and transparent, be relevant, rightright, right, all in this race
(49:37):
striving together. Right. But thescripture says that you know, we run
the race, we run to getthe prize. And that's what it's about.
It's running our race in a waythat we could obtain the prize,
right, And so we have towe have to condition ourselves. And so
you know, God, you youhad one plan. You're thinking you're going
to the NFL, Right, Godhad other plans for you, and think
(50:01):
about it, because you know, when you get af there to the NFL,
you might experience some real crazy stuff, you know, because people with
money, right, who knows,I ain't no telling him what I was
already on the edge of being crazy. Oh you know, God, God
probably knew what trapped the enemy hadset for you out there in the NFL.
(50:22):
And he's, oh no, mywarrior, not my man of purpose,
right right, right, right right, because you have a true talent.
You have a true talent. Idon't know if you guys have heard
his music, but a man ofpurpose, mop it is a true talent.
Just your whole sound because you're socountry and southern. You know,
it's a rare sound, you know. And uh, and it's in your
(50:45):
music is real, you know whatI mean. It comes from a real
place. Appreciation, appreciate it,you know. And I know God great
great things. He's not near backthrough with you. When you're completely surrendered
to God. When you completely surrenderto God, then he's gonna blow your
mind and seafood everywhere and through yourmind, all of you, your wife,
(51:13):
your mother, your beauty, allof y'all. God has so much
in store for you. You justgotta keep your hand in his hand right
and keep resisting the temptations of theenemy. Because the enemy gonna be after
us. He's after us every day, every day, on his line,
he after us on our top, every every second. So how can I
(51:36):
give them. He can't catch upwith us because resisted, he gonna flee,
He gonna go the other ways.So all we gotta do is our
part. If we do our part, yeah, right, we got we
gotta do. We gotta do ourpart. Yeah, we gotta do our
part. And that's the hard partfor a lot of people, right,
A lot of people don't want it. Like you said, when you was
(51:57):
in college and you was living thatlife, you was have a fun girls
and parties and drinking and smoking, dancing. It's like, you know what's
so rewarding, you know when wewhen we when we surrender to God and
(52:19):
let go of all that stuff thatwe thought was so great, right,
really walking with God. That's sofunny how this stuff seems so foolish,
don't it. Go ahead, letme tell you something. I used to
think that you couldn't have no funon this side, you know what I'm
saying, going to church and gottado this. God can't say this,
(52:43):
can't talk like this, can't dothat. You know, it wasn't the
same fun, you know what I'msaying. But now I realized that I
would be the same person I wasthen as I am on this side.
You know what I'm saying. Imay have to do things a little different,
but I still have fun, youknow what I'm saying. Enjoy life,
you know, and I ain't gotto have that other stuff. You
know, this stuff ain't fun.You know, run at the police gonna
(53:05):
come get you looking over your shoulder. If somebody gonna ride me to day,
somebody gonna tell on me today. You know what I'm saying. Am
I gonna have to rob somebody getmy next dollar or something? That type
of stuff ain't fun. And alot of time, man, like today's
time. Man. We live ina small town down here in macom.
I'm in a small town town ratehigh, you know what I'm saying.
And a lot of times their messageain't out there, these kids killing kids,
(53:30):
you know what I'm saying, andbeing mis leg ain't got no guys
doing what they want to do.You know what I'm saying. That some
kind of way, you know,I just want to get the message out
there. You know that it's alrightover here. You know it's all right.
You know, I ain't got toworry about being called a lame.
I'd rather be a lame than ridinga limo. I rerady walk in the
rain than riding a limo with alame, you know what I'm saying.
(53:51):
So I ain't got to be overhere doing this trazy and stuff. It's
all right over here. Say whatyou got to say? I'm doing me
yeah, yeah, yeah. Ittakes a little spark to ignite the whole.
You say, you're in a littlecommunity. God can use you in
a big way in that little community, you know, and you have that
talent, you know what I mean. I just want to encourage you to
(54:15):
you be the difference. You know, sometime we think the enemy make us
think so small minded, like wedon't have an impact, or we can't
make an impact, or it's notgonna really make a difference. But I'm
telling you, when you start sowingseed, God gonna bringing an increase,
right, So you don't have toworry about it. You just pray,
ask God, what can I do? What can I do for my community
(54:35):
to make it better? Because thoseyoung men they need to see you,
They need to see that positive influence. They need to see, especially when
you have that testimony, when peoplecan know that God has brought a change.
We are the most impactful and powerfulpeople because people know where we came
from. Right. Sometimes when peoplebeen in church their whole life and they
being just a goodie two shoe theirwhole life for lack of vitity. You
(54:58):
know when they just you know, our she always been good. They can't
have the same impact if somebody thatyou know, was everybody in town ran
through her and she was and thenwhen she changed, God changed her life.
It's like, you know, Godchanged her like they have a greater
impact. And so you know,in your in your small town, you
could have such a tremendous impact onthe young men's lives there. Uh.
(55:22):
And so I just encourage you to, you know, see what you do,
especially without it mud and fishing andall that. I went, I
went, I went fishing today hedid on you ain't nothing. But guess
what though it wasn't a fishing partof you know what I'm saying. That
(55:43):
was I was after it was mypeach, you know what I'm saying.
I reminded of story in the uhin the Bible they talked about how to
fish. You know, you youmay know when I get to talking about
it. I don't know where forword, but the fishing them went fishing,
right, it was somebody went withthem. They were casting their next
but they wasn't catching no fish, you know what I'm saying. And I
(56:04):
think God must have told him tocast over here or something store with you
know what I'm saying. They caughtfish, So it all kind of depends
on what you catching. Your castingyour neck after you know what I'm saying
today, I was casting my netfor peace, you know what I'm saying.
Get the piece you know you got, So you got to be mindful
of the way you're casting your neck, you know, right, you was
(56:28):
trying to catch some peace, andyou caught all of that, and I
caught that. You get hunger, but I got piece. That's all right.
I might be got peace, right, you can't be peacey speak you
speaking, butter, I better stopfor the hed I better stop for they
(56:52):
try to put me in a pullpit. What they need to do?
Put him after tonight, bring theworld of God and tell of the goodness
of God and what all that Godhas done for him, you know.
And I'm just so glad just tosee because you could have been bitter,
right, you could have been youcould have drowned yourself in sorrow. Oh
(57:16):
you know. I was at da D one University on full scholarship and
this happened, and then I gotto work my way back to D one
A D one scholarship and then this. You know, you could have been
one ways me for me what hehad and you what He has for you.
With joy right right, we cansee it, we can see it.
(57:37):
How old are you? Fifty two? Again? I know I'm older
than you. I got your beetby a little bit, you know how
I am. I'm I'm fouling lordLord. And if you got me bad,
(58:00):
you got me bad. You gotgot you by a little bit.
You you running out on my hills. But listen, listen, thank you
so much for coming out here.I just you know, your story is
just so powerful, you know, because I just love that you content.
You know, I feel like Icouldn't, like I said before, you
(58:21):
know, with the dreams you hadand the world you were on, because
you were right there you could tasteit. You at Alhorn State, like
you know what I mean, Likethat's that's so close that you can taste
it. But you did not letthe enemy steal your joy. You didn't
let him come and tell you stilllive life, and you live abundantly and
you have let God come in anddo a work in you. And I
(58:43):
just am so grateful to God becauseit's a real work it's a true work.
Your wife is on there are testedbecause she knows he's done a true
way here and he still has workto do in all of us. We're
all growing, right, we noneof us have arrived. And so uh,
I'm just grateful for you allowing Godto penetrate your heart and change your
(59:04):
life. Man, listen, Ijust I just I just thank God for
you as well, you know, and just breaking me and you know how
we met and everything through a mutualfriend and everything and you know, just
being right right right. Yeah, you know, man, you know,
I just thank God said my friend, Uh, I think it's toning your
(59:27):
ain'ty. Is that your ain'tie?Something might be here Minuel be because yeah,
she said her cousin Isippi here hereChristian rapper too. And I was
like okay cool. And She's likeyeah, I told her about you.
Maybe I could do something together. And I was like okay, yea cool.
And so you know, I hearthat all the time, Like people
(59:47):
tell me tell me about Christian rappersall the time, because when they find
you Christian rapper, they won't tellyou a bad way. The Christan rapper
they know. And so I rememberthe first time I heard your music,
I was like, Oh, likehe has really has a gift, you
know. And so I just I'mgonna be praying for you, uh,
(01:00:07):
that God takes you and everything thatHe has for you, that you you
and your wife, that y'all geteverything that God has for you and your
family, beautiful family. And Ijust love you guys. I thank you
for coming. Anything you want tosay to the people before we get out
of here, man, I justwant to carriage everybody, no matter wo
Man, just keep going, youknow what I'm saying. Back against the
(01:00:28):
road, you know, come outswinging. You know, if the mind
too tall your for sprint to clime, you know, you get lost,
asking to show you the way,you know, you know, just keep
going, man, mind over mail, mind over man, keeping God involved
in all things, you know, and you know, and I just thank
you, and I thank them fortuning in and listening and everything. You
