In today’s episode, I share a little fun fact about me and then talk about something silly that happened on Sunday.

I then connect this experience to Jesus Christ and my decision to choose Him again and again. He is the “Living Water” and by drinking from His doctrine, we can have everlasting life and never thirst again. How incredible is that?!

Speaker 1 (00:01):
Dude, Hello, and welcome back to my podcast.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
Today. I'm going to be talking about a very very silly,
funny story and then taking a little bit deeper and
going a little bit more spiritual. So first let's start
off telling you a little bit about myself. And you're like, wow, Kyra,
you've had this podcast for a long time.

Speaker 1 (00:35):
Just now you're.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
Gonna tell me about yourself. Well, yeah, I know. I'm
just going to tell you a new facet about me.
So some background about me is that I love water.
I really really really love water. And if you know
me and you've met me, chances are very high that
I had my hydroplastic with me, very high, because I

(00:58):
basically don't go anywhere without it. It's almost always with me.
I just always had my hydroflask on me. It's a
constant friend. As a sticker on my Hydra says that
my sister bought for me and threatened to be offended
if I didn't put on it is my emotional support hydroflasker,
my emotional support water bottle. But I have it everywhere
I go. I really love it, and I also just

(01:20):
love water in general. I love the taste of water.
I think there is a taste. That's a hot take.
I know on everyone does. I know not everyone does.
But here's the deal. Okay, I'm gonna tell you a
story real quick. So I had two of my friends over,
Whitney and Kadriann, and I think they I think I
had them over last February. I don't remember the exact date.
Maybe it was long, maybe it was less than that.

(01:41):
I don't know when it was. Maybe it was even
further than that. Maybe it was the fall of twenty three.
I don't know. Anyway, we played one of those fun
games where I bought every brand of water. Well that's dramatic.
I brought a lot. I bought like five or six
brands of water, and then we played the game where
we put on a really fancy blindfold. Because I have

(02:01):
a sleep mask to wear if it's dark outside since
i've been working graves, I meant to say if it's
a light outside, and I don't actually use it that
much because even if it's dark out, even if it's
light outside, I'm normally able to fall asleep anyway. But
I bought a really nice one so that if I
was tired and it was light outside and that was
making it hard to sleep than I could put it on.

(02:22):
So we use that and that one's good, you know,
like you can see nothink. And we did a water
taste test. One person wrote down someone's guess. One person
was doing the guessing, and we recorded everything for fun,
and then the other person was handing them the cups
of water with the different brands and showing what brand
it was in the camera. And it was a lot
of fun.

Speaker 1 (02:42):
It was a lot of fun.

Speaker 2 (02:43):
But the whole point of all of that is that
I got seven out of seven of them.

Speaker 1 (02:48):
Right.

Speaker 2 (02:48):
I'm not kidding you, I'm not blowing smoke. I'm for
real right now. I literally got all seven brands right.
One of them was tap Water, which is easy to tell,
but seriously, I really did. I toltal the different and
I guessed right between SmartWater, Desani, Food Club, Akaa General Brand,
this Mountain Air water stuff from Walmart, Slash, Lenz, Fiji,

(03:14):
and Era Ahead And I think there was one more,
but I can't remember what it is now. I don't
think there was one more. I know there was one
more because there was a total of seven. But yeah,
I got seven out of seven of them, right, Okay,
so I actually know what I'm talking about. Water has
a taste and I have proof. And then just a
little bit more background. My hydroflask's name is Walter. My

(03:34):
cousin Keiley came up with it in twenty twenty one,
and the name comes from water and then just adding
an L, so Walter. But yeah, he's had that name
since twenty twenty one and it's been a ride. It's
been a good ride.

Speaker 1 (03:49):
Oh.

Speaker 2 (03:50):
I actually ended up getting a new hydroflask for Christmas
in twenty twenty two. But she was stolen, and that's
really awkward. Her name was Wanda. My family all jokes
that she's a stripper in Vegas because she was stolen
in Vegas. But that's a long story that we're not
gonna go and do. So I went back to Walter,

(04:10):
and I was like, hey, oh buddy, and hey, old friend,
come back. I didn't replace you. I just was giving
you a break. So all of that goes to say,
I love water and I love my hydroflask. So this Sunday,
something funny happened. I think it's really funny, and I've
cracked myself up about it. I worked the night so

(04:34):
I worked from five pm on Saturday to eight am
on Sunday, and I decided, you know what, I'm going
to go to first hour of church and then I'll
come home and sleep. That's my compromise. So I stayed
up so I could go to church. Went to church
at ten and enjoyed it. One of the speakers actually
talked about whatever decisions we make on Sunday and what

(04:54):
sign that shows to God, because President Nelson has talked
about that. And I was like, you know, the sign
I'm showing to God is that I am letting my
cardinal body a cardinal desire when to get sleep. But
I came in a first hour at least I got that,
you know. And so I was like, I'm going home.
So I headed home. I drove all the way home,
which I mean it's literally five minutes. It's not even

(05:15):
that long. It's five to six minutes. And when I
got home, I immediately realized that I did not have my hydroflask,
and I was like no, So I turned around and
I went back. It's like, I can't leave my hydro there.
I have no idea when I would go get it next.
I have no idea where it would end up if
I didn't go right back to get it, I would

(05:36):
need it throughout the day and then of course for
that night because I worked again at midnight. So I
was like, there's not really another option. I have to
go back and get it. So I went back and
we had Relief Society in the chapel right where my
hydrofosc was. So I was like, I guess I didn't
want to go to Second Hour, but the Lord had
other plans. He said, actually, you have your free agency

(06:00):
to do what you want, but I'd really like you
to go to Second Hour. And I was like, dang it.
So I went to Second Hour. It was a good experience.
I got my hydroflask, reunited with Walter, and I went
home and I was actually thinking about that experience a lot.
You have to admit it's funny. It's funny. I left

(06:20):
my hydroflask at church, left church, and then had to
go back to go to second Hour to go get it.
You can't go back, show up, grab something in front
of everybody, and then leave again. No, that's crazy, uh huh.
So I went back and I got it, and I
was pondering this experience and this flash of inspiration came

(06:42):
across my mind that it's really unfortunate, quite unfortunate that
I chose my earthly water, even though I have a
very strong connection over the living water. And for those
who don't know which, don't be embarrassed if you didn't know,
but Geesezesus Christ has so many names. He has so, so,

(07:03):
so many names, and one of them is the Living Water.
And this name comes from the story of him and
the Woman at the Well. And if you don't know
that story, basically, he and his disciples have just traveled,
they're hungry, they're thirsty, and the disciples go into town
to get some food and he goes over and sits

(07:24):
by this well, and this Samerian woman comes over and
is starting to fill up her water, and it's the afternoon,
it's taught, and Jesus Christ asks her for a drink
of water, and she's kind of offended and confused because
Jesus Christ is a Jew and she's a Samaritan, and
the Jews and the Smaritans don't get along. And she

(07:45):
basically is like, who are you to ask me, a
Samarian woman to get you a drink of water? And
then he has a one on one connection with her
and tells her that he's the Messiah, and he tells
her about her life and she's like, wow, no one
else would know that about me except the Messiah. He
tells her that if she drinks from his doctrine and

(08:06):
from him, then he has the living water, and that
those who drink from him will never thirst again. And
so she runs into town to tell the news and
to let people know that the Messiah's here. And it's
a really tender story because of this one on one
connection and this tender way in which the Savior speaks
to this woman. But isn't that interesting that I genuinely

(08:30):
did I chose my earthly water over the living water.
I could have chosen to stay for a second hour,
and instead I chose to leave. And I feel like
I've learned a lesson here that obviously Heavenly Father and
Jesus Christ are gonna forgive us as we repent sincerely,
But also there is so much to learn and not

(08:50):
even maybe I don't know what I would learn every
single time that I go to second hour or whatever,
but just showing him the sign that I am choosing
him again and again, I mean I don't think that
can be understated how important that really is. I'm going
to read just a couple things and then close up.
So this is from July twenty eleven. It's titled Drink

(09:13):
Deeply of the Living Water. It's in the we talk
of Christ so in the enzyme, and Matthew Heaps says,
my employment takes me to communities all over the world
where people do not have access to clean water. Our
group works with local governments and residents to provide maintainable
sources of pure, life sustaining water, such as wells and
spring or rain captures. These water projects offer a significant

(09:37):
improvement in the quality of life. Health drastically improves because
clean water stops the contraction of typhoid, cholera, and other
water born diseases. The economy also improves because parents and
children who previously spent their time carrying water can now
pursue employment and education. Even in communities with numerous and
wide ranging problems, people always say that water is what

(10:00):
they would like most. The Savior spent his early ministry
in a time and place where people relied on wells
for water. As he taught the woman at the well
by saying that quote, whosoever drinketh of the water that
I shall give him shall never thirst close quote John
four fourteen. Was he also teaching us that his gospel
quenches permanently our most basic needs. I believe so. I

(10:23):
will always be grateful to a woman in Kenya, Africa
who taught me about willingness to work to obtain water.
I met her at a celebration following the installation of
a well in her community. With gratitude. She told me
that the new well would cut her daily nine mile
trip to get water to a one mile trip. She
was overjoyed at the opportunities that would now be hers.

(10:45):
I couldn't help but think how I would feel if
I had to walk a mile to get water. I
was impressed that she put everything from housework to gardening
aside while she made her journey to fetch water. She
knew she couldn't complete the other task without that water.
I thought about how heavy her burden was. Carrying water
takes strength and endurance, yet for the sake of her family,

(11:07):
she was willing to walk nine miles every day to
get it. I wonder if we who get clean water
from taps in our homes sometimes expect to come onto
Christ with the same ease as turning a knob to
get a glass of water? Or are we willing to
put aside other tasks, even important ones, to seek to
know Jesus Christ and his Father. I know that the

(11:28):
well of living water the Savior offers us never runs
dry and is pure in life, sustaining. When we come
to him with an empty cup, he will fill it,
often beyond our capacity to receive. He is truly living water,
a manifestation of the love of God. Isn't that so good?
And then one last thing. This is from a General

(11:49):
Conference talk from April nineteen ninety five by Joseph B. Worlin,
and he says, the Saviour's promise to that woman extends
to all of our hemly Father's children. By living the
Gospel of Jesus Christ, we develop within ourselves a living
spring that will quench eternally our thirst for happiness, peace,
and everlasting life. The Lord explains clearly in the Doctrine

(12:12):
and Covenants that only faithful obedience can tap the well
of living water that refreshes and enlivens our souls. Quote
but unto him that keepeth my commandments, I will give
the mysteries of my kingdom, and the same shall be
in him a well of living water springing up unto
everlasting life. When the woman said she knew the Messiah

(12:32):
would come, Jesus said, I that speak unto thee am.
He he demonstrated his power of prophetic discernment by telling
the woman personal details about her life that only one
with divine insight could have known. Astonished, the Samaritan woman
left her water pot and hurried off to tell others
of her interview with the Lord, saying, come see a
man which told me all things that I ever did?

(12:54):
Is this not the Christ? And then later he says,
these latter days are a time of great spiritual thought.
Many in the world are searching, often intensely, for a
source of refreshment that will quench their yearning for meaning
and direction in their lives. They crave a cool, satisfying
drink of insight and knowledge that will soothe their parched souls.
Their spirits cry out for life's sustaining experiences of peace

(13:18):
and calm to nourish it enliven their withering hearts. Indeed,
there are many yet on the earth, among all sects, parties,
and denominations, who are blinded by the subtle craftiness of men,
whereby they lay in wait to deceive, and who are
only kept from the truth because they know not where
to find it. Let us work with all our heart, might, mind,

(13:38):
and strength to show our thirsty brothers and sisters where
they may find the living water of the Gospel, that
they might come to drink of the water that springs
up into everlasting life. The Lord provides the living water
that can quench the burning thirst of those whose lives
are parched by a drought of truth. He expects us
to supply to them the fullness of the Gospel by
giving them the scriptures and the worlds of the prophets,

(14:01):
and to bear personal testimony as to the truth of
the restored Gospel to alleviate their thirst. When they drink
from the cup of Gospel knowledge, their thirst is satisfied
as they come to understand our heavenly Father's great plan
of happiness. So to finish up with this cute little
episode about the living water, I just want to bear

(14:23):
testimony that I am so grateful for water. I'm so
grateful for the convenience in which we have water, and
I'm also so grateful for the convenience in which we
can access the gospel. If you are listening to this
right now, my guess is that you have access to technology,
and anywhere connected to technology, you can look up the scriptures,

(14:45):
the Book of Mormon, log into your Gospel Library account,
search talks and devotionals on YouTube through the podcasting app
you're listening to right now. I mean, it's incredible. I hope,
like Matthew Heap, we recognize that in order to be
a disciple of Jesus Christ, it takes more than just
the ease in which we can turn the tap on

(15:07):
for water or in my case, go to walmart or
Lynz to fill up my water because I'm a water snop.
But the point is the same that we must not
take for granted the blessings that we have and instead
truly get to know the living water as we quench
our thirst with His truth. I am so grateful for
the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and I've made a commitment

(15:30):
to choose the living water as well as my earthly
desire for water. And I say these things in the
name of thy son, Jesus Christ, Damon, Thank you so
so much. For listening. Don't forget to embrace imperfection by
meaning satisfaction and joy from the journey. I'm Kyra and
this is imperfectly broken. The podcast they take
