L’Earth Overshoot Day calcola la velocità con cui la popolazione mondiale utilizza le risorse della Terra, ovvero il giorno in cui l'utilizzo di risorse naturali da parte dell'umanità supera il budget assegnato per quell'anno. Se a metà anni ’80 questo giorno si verificava intorno alla fine di ottobre, oggi si verifica verso la fine di luglio.
