Here's Rob with today's tip.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
The world of hydranges is a fun and fascinating one,
and growing different varieties is an excellent way to expand
your horizons and experience as a gardener. I've been showcasing
many of the different varieties of hydrangeas all this week.
Today a few more. These plants can grow quite large,
up to thirty feet in height. You see them off
and on silos and barns where they were originally planted.
Growing climbing hydrangs means supporting them with an extra heavy

(00:34):
or extra sturdy trellis or structure to climb. Unlike many vines,
climbing hydrangeas are woody and heavy and can quickly destroy
cheap inadequate structures. A relatively new type of hydrangea is
the cascating hydrangea. These are excellent for containers and hanging baskets.
That's right, hanging hydrangs. Be aware that the cascating hydranges
are not fully hardy here in Wisconsin, so they will

(00:56):
need to be kept indoors for the winter season or
treated as an annual. Their beauty and elegance as they
cascade downward from hanging baskets and tall vase shaped urns
is worth the effort to grow them. Mountain hydranges are
increasing in popularity here in the Midwest. A growing number
of them have been hybridized that are hardy right here
in our area. Mountain hydranges often feature lace cap blooms

(01:16):
and shades of pink, purple, red, and lavender. Oak leaf
hydranges are another popular hydrange of variety. They are marginally
hardy here in Wisconsin in a cold winter, and that
may result in few, if any blooms the following season.
Many people grow oak leaf hydranges simply for their foliage.
The leaves are shaped like oak leaves and heavily textured.
Protecting oak leaf hydranges over the winter season is key

(01:37):
to enjoying their spectacular, lush layers of blooms. I hope
you've enjoyed all of the hydrange of information I shared
all this week on in the Midwest Garden.
