Classic fall accent plants are beginning to show up at
area garden centers and nurseries as it's time to prepare
for the fall color season. Whether you plant them in
the ground or in containers, Assembling an assortment of beautiful
fall color accent plants is a great way to prepare
now for the perfect fall season. All this week on
in the Midwest Garden, I'm talking about how to prepare
now for fall. It's time to stock up on some

of our favorite fall plants and get them ready to
put on their incredible show. There are many great fall
accent plants available at garden centers now. These can be
touched into fading summer containers or planted in the ground
where space allows to create breathtaking autumn displays. Some of
my favorites are the grasses. Many beautiful grasses are now
available at garden centers for fall. Purple fountain grass in

rich deep purple with large foxtale plumes as a classic
for containers or in the ground. Vertigo is another excellent
ornamental grass for fall, featuring thick burgundy or marine foliage
on plants that may grow four to five feet tall
and wide. Cherry sparkler fountain grass and fireworks fountain grass
are additional varieties of ornamental grasses with foxtailed plumes on

plants that are variegated green and red or green and white.
The many varieties of ornamental millet are also excellent for
containers or in ground plantings. Green millet and purple millet
put on their spectacular show from August all the way
through Thanksgiving. Colorful colius are another excellent choice for fall color.
Many of these feature shades of red, maroon, orange, and yellow,

now by putting together an amazing collection of accent plants.
