While hostas are traditionally thought of as shade plants, the
newer generations of hostas are largely adapted to full sun.
In fact, many who have not gardened with hostas in
a while are surprised to learn that so many of
the newer varieties do quite well even in full sun.
This is because most of the newer hostas are bread
to produce leaves of thick substance and color fast qualities
that don't burn or fade in the sun, and as

a bonus, are avoided by deer and rabbits Because of
the heavy substance of their leaves. These animals leave these
hostas alone. Many of the yellows and variegated green hostas
do best in sun. It's wise to keep the deeper
blue hostas in full shade, as they tend to fade
to green when placed in too much sun. Excellent yellow
