Speaker 2 (00:11):
From August to all the way through Halloween even Thanksgiving,
ornamental grasses are stunning when planted in containers. All this
weekend in the Midwest Garden, I've been talking about some
of my favorite ornamental grasses. August is their peak season
when many begin to display their incredible seed plumes and
take on their gorgeous late summer and fall colors. Today,
including ornamental grasses and containers. When planting and planting containers,

(00:34):
generally we look for plants of three different types, a thriller,
a filler, and a spiller. Ornamental grasses can be any
of the three, depending upon the variety. This makes them
wonderful additions to container plantings. Combined with flowering annuals, foliage plants,
and more, many ornamental grasses work wonderfully as the thriller
or centerpiece of a container. Purple fountain grass, fireworks, fountain grass,

(00:57):
toffee twist sedge, feather, reed grass, and others are excellent
choices for a centerpiece and a large container. As a bonus.
All of these grasses continue to showcase their beautiful colors
and forms all through the fall season. Intact, many gardeners
use purple fountain grass or vertigo grass, as well as
the caramel color of toffee twists edge as a centerpiece
for their fall containers with mums, colius, marigolds, and more.

(01:19):
The king Tut family of grasses also make breath taking
centerpieces or thriller plants with their huge umbrella like seed
plumes rising above attractive green foliage. Smaller ornamental grasses such
as blue fescue, tufted hair grass, fiber optic grass, black mondograss,
prairie drop seed, even though the blue stum, also work
great as filler grasses and containers of all sizes. Experimenting

(01:41):
with planting some late summer and fall containers including grasses
this year.
