All this week on in the Midwest Garden, I'm showcasing
some incredible ornamental grasses. August is peak season for many
ornamental grasses as they begin to display their incredible elegant
seed plumes. Today some amazing perennial ornamental grasses. Carl Forrester
is one of the most popular ornamental grasses used in
landscaping by landscape companies as well as gardeners. Its attractive

upright vertical growth habit and unique thin seed plumes are
attractive all through late summer fall and even into winter.
Over Dam is one of the several feather reed grasses
that feature tall, hairy, beautiful feathery blooms. Korean feather reed
grass is another of these gorgeous plants that pair well
with a number of other perennials and grasses. Avalanche is

a variegated form of feather reed grass with fluffy seed
plumes and unique green and white foliage. To Many different
blue fescues feature perquickly round bowling ball shaped clumps of
powdery blue foliage that pair perfectly with orange, milkweed, wild petunia,
and other prairie plants. Groussillamis is an incredible ornamental grass
that features a tall day shape, perfectly arching clump of

tall plumes as well as feathery seed heads throughout the
summer and fall season. Japanese silver grass or silver feather
is another of the maiden grass type ornamentals, with massive
plumes of pompous grass blake seed plumes over thick green
blades with the silvery white center stripe. Heavy metal switchgrass
is a hybrid form of switchgrass and then an incredibly
steely blue color. So many amazing ornamental grasses to choose
