Speaker 2 (00:10):
While every year dozens of new hosta varieties are registered
and put on the market, among hosta growers, one of
the biggest trends is moving backwards and collecting old fashioned
retro hostas that were around before the days of tissue
culture propagation. Many of these retro hostas, as I call them,
from the nineteen nineties and early two thousands, are no
longer available in most cases, and you may need to

(00:32):
find them from a private collector or order online through
a reputable hosta nursery. One of the reasons many hosta
growers are looking back at some of these retro plants
is because so many of the newer varieties of hostas
are created to look exactly like everything else and give
it a new name that can be patent in for money.

close to many other hostas out there, hosta growers are

(00:55):
looking back a unique and hard to find retro varieties
from twenty or thirty years ago. O'clock Shadow is a
gorgeous retrohasta with heavy corrugation and a striking contrast between
cream and green. Paradigm is another classic with extremely heavy
corrugation or steerstruckering and a breaststroked green, gold and blue finish.
Korean Snow is one of the first streaked or marbled

hostas available in silvery white and green, with a unique
and unusual shiny finish. SunPower is a classic long leaved
bright yellow with heavy veining and a tall upright growth form.
Foxfire Palm Sunday is an unusual long leaf hosta with
a gorgeous green and gold variegation. Earth Angel is one
of their original sports of Blue Angel, largely green or

(01:37):
blue green with bruaststrokes of green and gold make it
a goal to find and enjoy their long lasting and
unique treasured beauty.
