Now in August, the prairies are at their peak throughout
Wisconsin and the Midwest. Prairies are erupting into colorful bloom
as a number of native beauties begin the peak of
prairie glory. All this week on in the Midwest Garden,
I'm going to showcase some of the fascinating and unique
prairie blooming native wildflowers that we can enjoy during August
peak prairie bloom season. By definition, of prairie is an

open area characterized by certain species of native grasses and wildflowers. Historically,
musch of Wisconsin was covered by prairie, especially southern and
southwestern areas. Prairies are divided into several different types or categories.
There is tall grass prairie, short grass prairie, as well
as wet mesek prairie, a unique prairie type found especially

in south central and southeast Wisconsin. Most prairies today are
technically restored landscapes. Two original prairie remnants remain in the
Midwest a number of different plant species characterized prairie landscapes.
Another prairie type is the oak savannah, a mixture of
open oaks rising above sweeping prairie expanses. Prairie habitats are
also characterized by different wildlife species that can be found there.

A number of unique snakes, lizards, birds, butterflies, and more
called the prairie their home. I'll have more on Wisconsin's
