3 dead, multiple inmates injured at Nevada prison

Over in Nevada.

Speaker 1 (00:03):
Three are dead, multiple inmates and Nevada prisons on lockdown
after a fight led to the deaths of multiple inmates. Newport,
Neva I mean sorry. Nevada Department of Corrections said three
inmates were killed in the fight.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
Multiple offenders were injured.

Speaker 1 (00:17):
Nine offenders were transporting for medical treatment.

Speaker 2 (00:20):
No officers were injured.

Speaker 1 (00:21):
The correction departments that are not currently releasing the information
on those that were deceased. The Eli State Prison is
in lockdown protocol following the incident. As we mentioned, other
states prisons have been made aware but are not a lockdown.
The Nevada Department of Corrections director was at the prison
Tuesday afternoon being briefed on it. Losing people at all

is not easy, said the founder of prison reform organization.
Losing them under these circumstances is even more difficult. The
director laments the committed, cavalier reaction she's seen from people
who comment on the story. At the end of the day,
their human beings, with pain, families and with children. So
we don't know what caused the fight, but we do

know nine were being treated, three were dead. I'm assuming
some kind of rivalry within the prison system, but as
of right now, we have no more information on that.
