Speaker 1 (00:01):
Welcome to Inside the Wedding Planner's Mind with Irene Tyndale,
Chief Event Officer of Irene Tyndale Weddings and Events. All right,
missus Tyndale, let's get to it.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
What's up, sisters in planning and welcome back to Inside
the Wedding Planner's Mind. I'm your host, Irene Tyndale, Wedding Planner, coach,
retreat host, and you're behind the scenes guide to building
a business that's not just booked but built to last.

Speaker 3 (00:28):
Now, let's get honest.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
If you're scrolling social media or checking your inbox, chances
are you've seen offers for coaching, courses, conferences and retreat
mine included. And if you've been you've probably been asking
yourself these questions, is this really worth the investment? What's
the difference between all these options? Which one is right

(00:52):
for me right now? And that is exactly why we're
having this conversation today, because choosing the education or coaching
support isn't just about how much does it costs? It's
about do you connect with the coach or event hosts,
what's actually being taught, who are the speakers and what's

(01:14):
their experience, what's the vibe of the community that shows up,
and most importantly, will this support your growth in the
season of business that you're in at the moment and
the goals that you have for yourself. So this episode
is all about helping you get clear and confident about
where to spend your time and money, because growing a

(01:37):
successful business requires investment.

Speaker 3 (01:39):
And I say this with love.

Speaker 2 (01:41):
Other communities do this without hesitation, without guilt, and we
deserve to do the same. We deserve high level education,
we deserve safe and powerful communities, and we deserve to
make business decisions based on alignment and not just affordable.

Speaker 3 (02:01):
So here's what we're breaking down today. Here's what we're
going to cover today.

Speaker 2 (02:04):
The difference between a mentor and a coach, what you
should expect from coaching programs and educational options, the different
types of in person events like workshops for treat differences,
and I'm going to give you some real examples based
on where you are and your planning journey, whether you're
just getting started or you're ready to.

Speaker 3 (02:24):
Scale with the team.

Speaker 2 (02:26):
So let's get started first us identify where you are
in your journey, because the support you need at year
one is not the same that you need at year
five or year ten or year three, So let's talk.

Speaker 3 (02:39):
Let's dive into it.

Speaker 2 (02:40):
Startup stage typically that's zero to one year. You're soaking
up everything like a sponge.

Speaker 3 (02:47):
All the information is on there.

Speaker 2 (02:48):
You're watching YouTube, you're joining Facebook groups, signing up for
every free summit. You're trying to figure out your processes.
You're building your confidence, and you're booking your first few closiens.
And what you might need is mentorship, entry level courses,
beginner friendly workshops, or community focused groups that are coaching

(03:11):
you and helping you get clear on the basics.

Speaker 3 (03:15):
Right Then the.

Speaker 2 (03:17):
Second stage, which is the growth stage, and that typically
is year two to five. You've planned some weddings and
you've ready to raise prices, you ready to streamline your workflows.
You're building visibility. You might be hiring an assistant or
making or making or taking time, you know, for your
ideal clients, that kind of thing. What you might need

(03:39):
at this point is a strategic coach, systems based group programs,
in person workshops or retreat that focuses on the business
side of planning.

Speaker 3 (03:50):
Stage three, which is a scaling phage, and.

Speaker 2 (03:52):
That's five plus plus years.

Speaker 3 (03:55):
You're booked and busy.

Speaker 2 (03:56):
Maybe you've got a team, you have a strong reputation,
and you have some big goals, more income, more impact,
less stress. You're shifting from being in the business to
running it like a CEO.

Speaker 3 (04:09):
Now, what do you might need at the stage.

Speaker 2 (04:11):
You might need one on one coaching, advanced masterminds, high
level retreats or conferences where you're networking at a higher level.
So what is the difference between a mentor and a coach?
And also what are the different types of educations that
are available? So let's start with the classic question, what's

(04:32):
the difference between a mentor and a coach? You probably
heard the phrase, the phrase or the saying she's a mentor.
In my head, that's usually someone you admire from afar,
you follow them, you learn from their content and feel
inspired by their journey. That's mentorship in its most informal form.

(04:53):
But a true mentor is someone who shares experiences and
wisdom with you, usually in the less structured way.

Speaker 3 (05:01):
They guide you.

Speaker 2 (05:02):
Based on what they've done, and they offer encouragement and perspective. Now,
when I think of a coach, I think of sports.
A coach that just doesn't cheer you on they're not
your cheerleader. They call the plays, they correct your form
and push you towards growth.

Speaker 3 (05:20):
A coach has a system.

Speaker 2 (05:22):
They're focused on your specific goals and helping you achieve
them step by step. So remember this, and mentor inspires,
and a coach equips. And when I say that coach equips,
they're equipping you with the tools that you need to
be successful on your own. Now, let's talk about some
of the differences between the education that's offered out there.

(05:44):
You probably come across one on one coaching, group coaching programs, seminars, webinars,
all that good stuff.

Speaker 3 (05:53):
So one on one coaching.

Speaker 2 (05:55):
Is supported and it's a support tailor to your business.
So this this coach gets on the phone with you
and they're helping you deep dive into one or two topics.
When I do sixty to ninety minute one on one
sessions with planners, I always tell them to come to
the table with one or two things that we're going
to tackle now five or six because we only have
sixty minutes to ninety minutes to get it done. But

(06:17):
what are two or three things that they are struggling
with that they need to go ahead and tackle that
they need some more clarity on that they need help with.

Speaker 3 (06:25):
Right. It's ideal for deep dives.

Speaker 2 (06:28):
It's personalized strategy, and it's fast transformation.

Speaker 3 (06:32):
It's you know, typically when we get.

Speaker 2 (06:33):
On a one on one is I want to know
is something that we want to take care of now
that's going to move the new forward? What's an RGA
a revenue generating activity that we could tackle right now
on this call to give you strategy and things to
think about and some does.

Speaker 3 (06:49):
Then you have group coaching.

Speaker 2 (06:50):
It's a structure program with coaching and a group setting,
great for building community and accountability, and often includes expert
you know, guess experts and a defined curriculum.

Speaker 3 (07:02):
My group coaching programs is a little bit of both.

Speaker 2 (07:05):
We do monthly themed top sometimes we have guest speakers.
Sometimes we do around Robin Q and a kind of
hot seats things right. But what I love about it
is that we have a slack community and a What's
app chat that we you know, talk through things with that,
you know, a bad day, when someone's having a great day.
We are there to support each other and planners are

(07:26):
there to support each other.

Speaker 3 (07:27):
And also it's been great.

Speaker 2 (07:28):
Because in a group coaching program it's you're with you
in a group setting with it like minded individuals being
coached by the same person, so you have the same
values and ideas and you're not the same people, but
you're saying, Okay, you know what, we're all here in
this together. And a lot of times what I've seen
in my group coaching programs is that planners are helping

(07:49):
each other out. They are flying out to be assistants
or they're being associate planners or other planners. It's great
and it's also like somebody to say, hey, on last
month's call, you said you were going to do ABCDEFG
and you haven't done a So it's a great accountability.
Sometimes people find their business bestie there. I know we've

(08:09):
been talking about that a lot on social media. Business
besties and really good friends and colleagues. Next, you have
self paced programs, which is on tomind courses you complete
on your own time. Best if you're looking to focus
on one specific skill or workflow, there's a ton.

Speaker 3 (08:24):
Of courses out there.

Speaker 2 (08:26):
Self paced courses out there, whether you're looking at getting certified,
where you're looking at learning how to do better timelines,
learning how to do mood boards, et cetera, et cetera.

Speaker 3 (08:35):
There are self paced.

Speaker 2 (08:36):
Programs that you purchase and you go ahead and do
them on your own time. Then you have webinars, usually short,
topic specific, sometimes free. Other times law calls great for
quick wins and new ideas. It's typically sometime a topic
on one thing like building a budget, building a timeline.

Speaker 3 (08:56):
You know, discovery calls.

Speaker 2 (08:57):
It's always on one specific topic anywhere for sixty minutes
to ninety minutes, sometimes two hours. Then you have virtual summits,
multiple speakers and topics around a theme. Good for exposure
and exploration, but you'll need to be more intentional about
what you implement because a lot of times they talk
to you about when to do it, but not necessarily

(09:20):
how to do it right.

Speaker 3 (09:21):
It's really kind of vague, but.

Speaker 2 (09:24):
You're getting the gist of the information and you may
need to do a little bit more deep dive into
the topic right. Virtual summits are super popular, especially after COVID.
We saw them rise in virtual summits and virtual conferences
and things like that, and there's still a ton of
free virtual summits in the wedding event industry, which I
love and a lot of times again I will purchase

(09:46):
the VIP ticket so that I could have a resource
library for this information. But again sometimes those are a
little bit superficial. Now, there's nothing like an in person event.
And listen, I'm an extrovert. I know that God has
blessed me with introverted family members and introverted coaching clients.

(10:10):
But there's nothing like being in the room. I mean, listen,
if you're a Hamilton family, like I need to be
in a room where it happens.

Speaker 3 (10:16):
The room where it happens.

Speaker 2 (10:18):
There's, like I said, nothing like it, especially when you're
surrounded by other planners who get it, other planners that
are having the same pain points that you're having, the
same struggles that you're having, the same wins that you're having.
Possibly even if you're living in different markets. It's just
nice to be in a room because for many of
us planners, for many of us were first generation entrepreneurs,

(10:39):
and for many of us, we were first generation to
go to college. And if I don't know about you,
but my experience was I didn't have anybody in my
family then understood what I was going through, and even
now as an entrepreneur, nobody really understands that I'm one
of the few in my friends group who's a business owner.
I'm the only person in my family who's a business owner,
and so it's nice to be surrounded by other people

(11:02):
that have gone through what you have gone through, what
you're going through actually, or are going through the same thing.
And Elsa is like, you know what, I went through
that a few years ago, and this is how I
got through it. So let's break down the most common
in person educational opportunities out there.

Speaker 3 (11:18):
First, you have workshops.

Speaker 2 (11:19):
These are hands on learning focused on in one specific
area like design, timelines, pricing, or planning systems. They're usually
a half day or a full day. They're in an
intimate setting, you have more access to the instructor, and
this is perfect for the startup and growth stage planners
who want to walk away with something they can implement immediately.

(11:41):
So an example here would be a timeline workshop where
you leave with a plug and play template customized to
your process, or if it's a design workshop, you leave
with how to create mood boards or how to do
a floral count right, something like that. That's what's good
for a workshop. Then you have retreats, multiple day immersive

(12:03):
experiences focused on mindset, business strategy, and implementation. It includes
coaching community in a space to actually work on your
business ideal for growth and scaling stage planners who are ready.

Speaker 3 (12:16):
To make bold move. But I also would.

Speaker 2 (12:18):
Say that retreats are really good for people in the
startup phase because larger conferences or workshops that there's a
lot of people in them who tend to be intimidating
for somebody who's in the first couple of years of
business and feeling a little bit of the imposter syndrome.
So I would say that this retreats are ideal for

(12:40):
anyone at any stage of business who is looking for,
I don't know, something more intimate and more intentional. An
example of retreat, of course, is becoming the business retreat
for wedding planners, where we go deep into visibility, finance, mindset,
and structure, all with sisterhood, with a sisterhood vibe and
CEO level support. Right, So I basically have planned and

(13:07):
am producing a retreat that speaks to all your senses
as a planner and as a woman, so mind, body,
and soul and your business. Because if mama ain't happy,
the business is not doing well.

Speaker 3 (13:19):
Right so we talk about everything.

Speaker 2 (13:20):
We talk about the stressfulness, the mindset, the OCD, the
over comparison disorders like what I like to call it.
We talk about the imposter syndrome. But we don't sit
in that, right, we don't sit in that. We let that,
We really stat and we move forward. So again, very
intentional time. And typically retreats are a smaller group of people, right,

(13:41):
twenty to fifty people. It's not a large amount of people,
and it shouldn't be. Then you have conferences, larger events
with multiple speakers, panels, breakout sessions, and tons and tons
of networking, high energy, lots of information.

Speaker 3 (13:57):
And lots of people.

Speaker 2 (13:58):
Great for growth and scale, you know, planners looking for visibility,
vendor connections and broad inspiration.

Speaker 3 (14:05):
But remember you get out of a conference when you
put into it.

Speaker 2 (14:09):
Take notes, ask questions, and implement when you get home,
because conferences tend to.

Speaker 3 (14:15):
Be fast paced, fast paced. You know.

Speaker 2 (14:18):
Sometimes conferences, you know, you have the luxury of connecting
with the speakers after they talk or throughout the conferences.
Sometimes you don't because they're so large. Then you have summits.
Sometimes they're virtual, sometimes they're in person. They have several
speakers focused on one topic or theme and more education
and the inspiration, but can be very powerful, especially for

(14:41):
startups or growth planners who one low cost way to
explore topics. So retreat and conferences tend to be on
the mid le suspenses to mid range ticket ranges. Conferences
could be mid to upper depending on their you know,
depending on their location and their status and how long
they've been around. And then workshops tend to be inexpensive

(15:04):
and pretty affordable, and a lot of times in a
city that it's easy to get to or in your
actual city right. So look, investing in coaching, courses or
events isn't about fancy. It's about being faithful to the
vision you have for your business. It's about saying I'm committed,

(15:24):
I'm serious, and I'm willing to learn, grow and get help.
But here's what I really want you to take away.
Before you sign up for the next Shiny offer, ask
yourself these questions, what's the return I want from this investment?
Will I be able to implement? To implement this not

(15:45):
just be inspired by it? Am I aligned with the
person teaching it, the community attending, and the way it's
being taught.

Speaker 3 (15:53):
You're not behind if you've.

Speaker 2 (15:55):
Never invested before, but you are behind if you think
you can row five figure, six figure sustainable business without
ever spending time on money, on learning. And hear me
when I say this, we deserve to invest in ourselves.
Our industry, especially planners of color, deserves education, mentorship, and

(16:18):
elevation full stop. I cannot tell you I have been
in multiple rooms, multiple programs, and I see it time
and time again.

Speaker 3 (16:28):
Stop being afraid. You have to make the sacrifices.

Speaker 2 (16:32):
I had a coaching session today and somebody said, I'm
in an I know I'm going somewhere because this is uncomfortable.
This is uncomfortable. But when you have your walking this
journey with another planner friend who's going through the same thing.
You walk in this journey with a community, you walk
in this journey with a coach, it makes it a

(16:53):
little bit easier because you're not alone. I've said this
before on this podcast. I was, and I've said it online.
The enemy he wants nothing more to keep you isolated,
to keep you isolated, to whisper those negative things in
your ear, to tell you who do you think you are?
You can't afford that you're not pretty enough, You're not

(17:14):
young enough.

Speaker 3 (17:14):
You're not this enough, my friends.

Speaker 2 (17:17):
I'm telling you this right now, whether you're attending but
coming the business.

Speaker 3 (17:20):
If're treated for.

Speaker 2 (17:21):
Wedding planners, joining one of my community's success pod or
the CEO Collective or any other the great coaches that
are out there and out there in the world there
are teaching you know, wedding industry people and and planners.

Speaker 3 (17:35):
I need you to know that you are worth it.

Speaker 2 (17:38):
Right if you have the desire to grow, to start
and grow and event planning business, you have to put
yourself first and look at what is it that you
need and not be ashamed of asking for help. Listen,
it's a joke around here. Jesus didn't need not one
of those disciples, and he had twelve so he could

(17:59):
roll around with. So who is in your corner? Who
is in your corner? So if this episode was helpful today,
I hope to help to clear the fog and gave
you the push you need.

Speaker 3 (18:12):
Screenshot and share this with me.

Speaker 2 (18:14):
Tag me at Irene Tyndale and tell me what stage
of business are you in, what kind of education are
you learning and what are you looking for? You know,
and maybe I can help you. Maybe I'm not the
coach for you. Maybe my retreat is not the retreat
for you. But I have friends in the industry. I
know what everyone's doing. So if you need some resources,

(18:36):
if you need a referral, let me know. People call
me all the time and message me all the time
asking me about my business coach, and I share the
information with them, right and let them know, Hey, the
stage you're in business, this person would be great for you.
The stage you're in business, maybe you should be you
know you should be this retreat or this conference. But
I want you to really sit back and think about it.

(18:57):
Where can I make a sacrifice in my budget and
in my time to invest in myself Because you cannot
ask these couples to invest thousands of dollars with you
and you haven't done the same. We owe it to
our couples to be the best CEOs, to be the
best planners that be. And a lot of times I

(19:19):
think we get stuck on our ways and in our
communities and our in our markets and we don't see
what's out there. So I to personally invite you to
join me in a group of amazing planners. So shout
out to all my Becomers January thirtieth to February second
in Atlanta, Georgia for becoming the Business Retreat.

Speaker 3 (19:41):
For Wedding Planners. It is an amazing time. Listen. I
know you see my social media and see you see us.
We have a good time. Listen. We work hard, we
learn hard.

Speaker 2 (19:53):
Sometimes there are a few tiers, and then we play
hard because in between sessions we have to shake it
off like Taylor Swift with Say and you know, kind
of get our groove back a little bit, get refocused,
and then learn.

Speaker 3 (20:04):
So we learn a lot. We deep dive.

Speaker 2 (20:06):
I have some of my best friends in the industry
who have twenty to thirty years in this game, who
are part of our program, who come and teach and
poor and are there with you. You can have one
on one conversations with you. This episode was not an
episode to fully promote Becoming the Business Retreat for Wedding Planners,
but I just wanted I've just been led.

Speaker 3 (20:26):

Speaker 2 (20:29):
And if you join and you're listening to this podcast
right now, we have a best special going on. So
if you're listening to this podcast before June thirtieth, it's
buy one one so you and a business friend can
come DM me and I'll give you all those details.
If not, if it's after June thirtieth, twenty twenty five,

(20:49):
type mind, M, I, N D and all caps for
twenty percent off your tickets, VIP and general admission.

Speaker 3 (20:58):

Speaker 2 (21:00):
God blessed you, and remember you are fearfully and wonderfully made.
