Un grupo traslacional, multidisciplinar y joven. Está compuesto por personal médico especializado en Oncología Médica, Medicina Interna, Oncología Radioterápica y Análisis clínicos; y personal investigador formado en Biociencias (Biología, Bioquímica, Biomedicina y Biotecnología) con un alto grado de cohesión. El trabajo del grupo se centra en tres grandes líneas de investigación relacionadas con el cáncer: i) tumores digestivos: cáncer colorrectal, cáncer gástrico y carcinoma hepatocelular; ii) cáncer de mama y iii) derrame pleural. Las tres líneas abordan enfermedades de alta prevalencia en nuestra sociedad que se asocian a una alta tasa de mortalidad. Trabajan con enfoques de investigación básica y traslacional para responder a los grandes retos que plantean estas patologías, que son: ofrecer marcadores para el diagnóstico, estratificar el riesgo de recurrencia o metástasis y predecir la buena respuesta terapéutica a los distintos tratamientos. Además, el grupo está desarrollando nuevas terapias altamente innovadoras basadas en la edición de genes.
