Jane’s guest today is TV and film star Vanessa Lachey, who co-hosts Universal Kid’s popular Top Chef Junior. The former New York-based correspondent for Entertainment Tonight, Vanessa was recently a contestant on the 25th season of Dancing with the Stars -- competing against her husband Nick Lachey! But nothing in her impressive career could have prepared this mother of three for when her youngest son was diagnosed with RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) and had to stay in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) for 6 days. On this episode, Vanessa tells a terrifying tale of how she almost lost her youngest child to this common, yet often misdiagnosed, seasonal virus. Prevalent in the winter months and contracted by nearly all infants by the age of 2 in varying forms of severity, RSV is the leading cause of hospitalization for babies during their first year of life. Most importantly, it is especially dangerous for high-risk babies, notably preemies, like Vanessa's son. Vanessa raises awareness of RSV by talking about the warning signs, risk factors and how to prevent it to begin with. She also imparts her personal secrets for beauty, fitness and stress reduction, as well as having a happy, healthy home.
