Today on jet Set Dynasty, we'regonna talk college qbs. There's a lot
of hype around the heismans. We'regonna break down our thoughts on some of
the big name qbs that are gonnacome out in the twenty twenty four NFL
Draft. Ready, let's go,let's go, let's go, let's go.
(00:49):
Hello, ladies and gentlemen, andwelcome back to jet Set Dynasty.
Football. Almost said the wrong podcast, but I didn't. Good job,
and he's back back. We hada week hiatus. The holidays got the
best of us. We were traveling, we were we were doing stuff.
We're in a new studio. Uh, but we're back. There's been a
(01:11):
lot of a lot of things goingon in like the NFL world, but
like nothing's super exciting that we're gonnadive into. But we just had the
conclusion of the regular season of collegefootball. So and we have opinions.
Yes, we have thoughts, andwe also have microphones. So you're gonna
hear our thoughts via those microphones.Yes, specifically around the quarterbacks because there's
(01:36):
there's been some rumblings also some bumblance, a lot of bumblance. So let's
just kind of jump right into that. I think. So we still have
Killer Williams, right, so let'stalk. So I don't even know where
to start. Do you want toknow where to start? We started the
top, let's start start. Yeah, So kill Williams does not have the
(01:57):
best season in terms of record, the expectations he was supposed to make the
comfortable playoff. You can make theargument that, hey, that falls more
on the defense that Lincoln Riley puttogether as opposed to his actual performance as
a quarterback. But is there anyreal scenario, any real world where Kid
(02:20):
Williams does not go a one overall? Two? AB one two? One?
Does it? Does KiB Williams goone overall? Is there any chance
that doesn't happen? Two? Isthere a chance that Drake may or another
quarterback could take could take the reinsas the number one overall QP? I'd
argue the former is more likely thatCaleb Williams isn't the first overall pick for
(02:46):
one instance and one instance alone.Okay, that is, if the Cardinals
end up getting the first overall pickand they decided to stick with Kyler and
just give him Marvin Harrison, That'sthe only way in my head that makes
sense, and even in that instance, I think your better option is to
draft Caleb and trade Kyler. Yes, so there was a there was a
(03:07):
mock draft that went out today. The thirty two beat writers tweeted out I
think it was from CBS Sports, and I think what I was most insulted
by with it was that the firstoverall pick was lied to the d end
from a very good DN from UCLA. See I like the words you use
there, A very good d end. Yes, not a generational d end.
(03:28):
Not if will Anderson wasn't a generationalDN. This guy is not a
generational deal. Right, This isnot a very good d end. It's
not a Jadeveon Clowney a Miles Garrett. He's either the Bosas, no,
nothing, none of that. Butto go back to Caleb Williams, Sorry,
yeah, I got distracted. No, it's not like he had a
bad season. He didn't have thefour thousand yard season that he had the
(03:49):
year before, but still thirty sixhundred yards, thirty touchdowns, only five
interceptions, a two quarterback or QBRin college which was eleventh college football.
That's still really good. It is, and it's hard to look at a
quarterback. I think the problem likewhat I look for, Like step one
(04:11):
of my off season processes always let'slook at stats, and you really always
want to see improvement from you toyour right. You want to see those
numbers get bigger. Didn't happen forthis year for Kileb Williams. No,
But I'd argue, here's my argument, because right now the Bears have the
number one pick and are probably themost likely to get the number one overall
(04:32):
pick. Yes, they have twoshots at it them and the Panthers pick.
I'd argue that they are going tobe better equipped to handle Kleb then
most other number one teams in thepast would be able to in why you
say that, and that I'm letmean and as well as what he has
(04:53):
USC right now, because he isgoing to go to a team that actually
does have a wide receiver, onethat has been investing in the offensive line
over the last couple of years. That line at USC and the receivers that
he has right now are not givinghim doing him any favors. That's fair,
But how can you look at theBears and what they did with justin
fields over the last two or threeyears and say, oh, Yeah,
(05:15):
they can make Caleb Williams work.I think it's they're better equipped to.
I don't trust the Bears as faras I can throw them, I better
equipped to. So I guess whatI'm hearing you say is that Justin Field's
weapon wise maybe took a step backin the NFL from Ohio State, which
is kind of crazy to say,but yes, honestly, not the most
hottest of takes ever because that's widereceiver. You. Let's be honest.
(05:40):
The guys he had there were yeah, he had a lot of it.
He had Garrett Wilson, he hadfreshman year Jackson Smith and Jigba. Yeah,
there were some really really good guysthere. Yeah, I don't Caleb
is actually probably going to be gettingbetter talent around him than he did at
college, which I feel like, what is his best receiver right now,
Brennan Rice. Yes, I don'teven know who that is. Oh yeah,
(06:01):
yeah, I don't think he's eventhat good. He's a fifth year
senior. He's aith your senior.Yeah he's yeah. It It is frustrating
that he has had not as goodof a year as we wanted. I
really would have loved to see himthe meaningful game in the College wall playoffs,
there's a four seed. But andthere's also like, I think a
(06:21):
lot of the off field stuff haskind of been weird with k Williams this
year. I'm not sure what you'resaying. Well, so maybe this was
like the fake like we see everybodyfollows the JPA and whatever, like,
yeah, random Twitter accounts have thathave no real validity behind them. But
there was the leak of that hewanted to have ownership in an NFL team,
(06:41):
which is never gonna have no,not a chance. And if that
does come out to be true,I will definitely change my tone a little
bit. But yeah, I don'tthink that's necessarily true. But then,
like the I think the way thathe carries himself has been a little I
don't want to say sus because I'mnot a I'm not a gen Z,
but it's kind of sus Like theway he didn't talk to the media after
his last game. Yea, thatI don't understand because he's crying in his
(07:04):
mom's arms. I don't know.I think that's a little weird. Like
I think it's okay, let mesay this again, let me say it
in a different way. It's notweird. But when you know that,
hey, you're under a microscope. You were, you would have been the
first overall pick last year, andyou're going to be the first overall pick
this year, why would you giveany fodder in any way to potentially hurt
(07:31):
your draft stock. That's my concern, And maybe it's dumb. Maybe I'm
over overblowing it. I think yousaid it best. Just now he's under
a microscope, which is not whywe seem to be trying to nitpick.
Oh he paints his nails. Ohhe put he's crying to his mom.
He's crying to his mom after abad loss. Oh he didn't speak to
(07:51):
the media after If he if thatwas Drake May who did that, nobody
would care, not like to belike, oh, okay, that's his
last game, okay. But counterpoint, what if like Andrew Luck did that
stuff, or Joe Burrow or Idon't know, I just I think that
to me, it's a lack ofI don't want to say awareness, but
(08:16):
kind of a lack of awareness that, like like everything, he should be
every literally every step he takes, literal steps should be outlined and should be
drawn out and planned from now untildraft Day. He should not take one
step. I don't want to sayout of line, but he should.
Everything he should be doing right nowshould be planned and calculated because he has
(08:41):
everything to lose and nothing to getat this point, and he's done nothing
but give us reasons to be like, maybe he shouldn't be the first overall
pick. Maybe he shouldn't be thefirst quarterback out. There are some quarterbacks
that are getting some really big hypein the past couple weeks, and I
still think he is the most talented. I think overall, arm strength,
mobility, all of it. Ithink he's still the best quarterback to come
(09:01):
out in a very long time. But he's giving us things to talk about
in the off season. And Iwould much rather that QB one to come
out and be a Joe Burrow AndrewLuck kind of guy that say, we
can't really talk about anything going onin the off season, like not talking
to the media, Like that's aleadership quarterbacks a leadership position, and as
(09:22):
much as we don't factor that intoa dynasty, because like we don't know
what goes on behind the scenes,he's giving us reasons to be like,
hey, maybe he's not totally there, mature enough to lead an NFL team.
I just don't. I don't getit. No, it doesn't because
I see what I see on thefield. I mean, what I see
(09:43):
on the field is an unbelievably talentedquarterback who does have these high expectations that
I think they're valid to say thatthere is some scarcity or some fear that
he'll never reach that because he hasthat Mahomes factor. But we always kind
of forget my Homes landed in theperfect situation with a generational coach, a
(10:03):
generational talent, or a generational tightend, a year to learn, a
year to sit behind and learn. He landed in the best situation, and
we're going to as soon as capable. And he puts on that Bear's uniform,
It's like, Oh, this isgonna be the next Mahomes, this
is gonna be the next generational thing. And we may never even it's even
reach that because the expeditions are sohigh. No, you're right. I
(10:24):
think it's just we're looking at thisguy in a microscope so hard and so
closely, and that's why we're pokingso many holes of this game. Because
you can't argue about it on thefield. You can't. No, you
can't. You're right, you can't. His decision making on the field has
been very, very good. Butagain that's just like any rate. Maybe
it doesn't matter. Maybe we forgetabout this in three months when you know
(10:48):
the draft process really kicks in.Oh no, we're gonna remember it again,
because you know why he's not doinganything in the draft process. Are
you kidding me? He's not goingto the Combine, not run for he's
not run the four He's we're gonnasee him at his pro day and then
he's gonna go away again. Yeah, and who knows, Yeah, and
who knows how much we'll do itas pro we'll seem at the super Bowl
because I'm pretty sure he's contractedly obligatedto go to the super Bowl because of
(11:09):
a sponsorship he has. He willnot hear from him until he shows his
face of the combine, and thenwe'll all get angry that he doesn't do
anything at the Combine, not eventhrow. And it makes us wait for
the pro day like every top quarterbackis done forever. No, you're right,
I don't know. I doubt Andthen and then people are gonna be
like, oh, he's not doinganything. He's not gonna be there for
his fellow rookie wide receivers by throwingat the combine. Like I yeah,
(11:33):
I don't hate that as much.Like I said, it's just I am
very worried about the perception of maybehe is just not mature enough to handle
this stuff. Like it's a bigI mean, it's less of a jump
now because of the money that's beingthrown around, but it's still a big
jump to go from the college fromthe USC's top QB to the number one
(11:58):
overall pick. So, but that'sthe risk you put with everyone, even
the most buttoned up people. Well, right, that's so That's kind of
my point is, so let's pretend, let's pretend that it's the Bears,
it's it's the Cardinals, it's theFalcons that have that first pick, whoever
it shakes out. And they're saying, Okay, we think on a scale
(12:22):
one to ten, they've got CalebWilliams' ability at a nine point two mm
hmm. And they look at DrakeMay and they say, we have Drake
made an eight point nine compared toa nine point two at just Field alone,
everything tape only at what where isthe gap? This is just totally
(12:45):
assuming that everything that Drake May doesis buy the book things. We're just
talking about taking the Andrew Luck route, where like he says all the right
things, does all the right things, plays when his bowl game blah blah
blah blah at where is the gapbig enough that we start to worry that,
hey, maybe Caleblia is gonna getusurped as the number one quarterback.
I doubt that, I really do. I honest, I can see a
(13:11):
world I could get into my doctorstrange and find my one, my three
out of one billion possibilities where DrakeMay plays this perfectly, plays the off
season perfectly, and people are legitimatelytalking about him pushing to be the first
quarterback. I think what it's morelikely to me is, I think we're
(13:33):
gonna see May take the Stroud approachthat everyone kind of puts him off because
he's kind of the boring prospect,Okay, and then when as soon as
he gets in the league, it'slike, oh, yeah, we forgot
this guy's amazing, this guy's aThat's a great point. You could also
turn around and say we just fuckedthis up with Stroud, Bryce Young had
(13:54):
the bigger ceiling where everybody was anamor with what Bryce Young could be,
and then Stroud does. In theend, the candidate is in the MVP
talk and it's potentially fighting for aplayoff spot where Bryce Stung has won one
game in the NFL. Why wouldyou want to make that mistake again?
I don't know. I'm that'll givethat's the most valid point I'll give you.
I'm playing devil's advocate here, butI just I really do think that
(14:18):
there's a legitimate opportunity that if CalebWilliams doesn't correct course off the field,
that a perfect off field from oneof these other quarterbacks. It may not
be Drake May. It could beJade Daniels. Jayden Daniels is the hot
name in the street right now. We're gonna talk about him in a minute.
He is there. You could findsomebody that could fall in love with
(14:41):
him over Caleb Williams. I thinkit would be not the right decision,
but we have seen not good decisionshappen before in the NFL. Fair that
is a good transition I think rightnow. So I'm looking I just so
I'm looking at this mock draft thatwas done by Let me give this gentleman,
Chris Trapazzo over at CBS Sports Network, he had this is how it
(15:05):
is today. He has the Bearstaking Laatu Latu the edge from Ohio State
one, which I think is Asonnine. But he then has Caleb Williams
not going till three. Is RobertHarrison Jun're going ahead of him, which
bonkers again would be crazy, buthe to, like you said that,
he has the Cardinals at two rightnow, so we can maybe see that.
(15:28):
The big thing here is he hasJayden Daniels going as the third quarterback
off three. QB is going three, four, five, kileb Williams,
Drake May and then Jayden Daniels goingto your New York Giants. Mm hmm.
But team aside, we're not talkingabout Jayden Daniels over Michael Pennix,
which so I texted you. Weactually had this conversation off air through text
(15:54):
very recently, just being like,is it's gonna be the who who's gonna
be the quarterback three? The guywho you think is going to be the
better NFL quarterback? And Michael Pennixor the guy who's going to give you
the fantasy upside in Jade Daniels. Now it just looks like Jade Daniels is
slowly becoming the quarterback three and workedhis way from probably it's being in the
(16:19):
season, what maybe second round projectquarterback to this guy is going to be
our quarterback of the future. AndI really liked you. Here's the thing.
I really like jayde Daniels because itstarted back in Arizona State because whenever
I was trying to watch a SeanWhite film, I couldn't just find Rashad
(16:41):
White clips. I had to watchArizona State game and I was like,
this guy can sling. He's astick, but he can literally sling.
He is playing dark. He didput on weight, and he looks much
more like a quarterback now and nowin his final season he is. He
is passed for more yards than Burrowdid in his immaculate year in LSU.
(17:02):
He has rushed for one thousand yardson the ground. Granted, he has
an amazing receiver, Malik Neighbors,I think is going to be the easily
the wide receiver too going into thisyear. Yeah, he has an incredible
receiver, but I don't think it'sthe same as like Kenny Pickett, where
Kenny Pickett. I thought was justnot good through four years, and then
had Jordan Addison in his fifth year, and like five years in the program,
(17:26):
everything started to click. This isthe guy who showed flashes in every
year going into it and now seemsto seem like he's gotten everything together.
Yeah, he's had three years oftwenty nine hundred or more yards. The
touchdowns is the big difference. Sohe had seventeen touchdowns in his first year
at ASU, he had seventeen inhis first year at LSU, and then
(17:51):
forty. Yeah. I was gonnasay it's like thirty eight or forty,
right, yeah, forty Yeah, there's updowns in this career. He had
in twenty twenty one ten touchdowns andten interceptions at ASU, and this last
season and he transferred out. Hisfirst year with Brian Kelly was up and
down. I don't even think hestarted that season. If I'm being honest,
I don't think he did either. There was another guy in there that
I'm blanking on. But uh,he's had a lights out season this year
(18:15):
and he's looked really well. He'sdone very good. His rushing is consistent,
he's got we talked about we wantstats that improve every year. He
you know, last year at ASUseven hundred and ten rushing yards eight eighty
five, last year at LSU,and then eleven hundred yards this year in
this final year at LSU, addingon another ten touchdowns. That's crazy accounting
for fifty touchdowns. Yeah, whichis that's the Heisman race there, That's
(18:40):
yeah, that's where we were becausewe were busting going where's Penis? Penis
did nothing to lose this. ButI do think that Daniels is probably one
of just looking at those numbers. But yeah, I think that's just the
difference between for Jade Daniels and abon Knicks for me is that bone Nicks
does align more with the Kenny Pickettof this guy wasn't good into his final
year and then he gets this elitereceived Maybe not elite, but I believe
(19:04):
Troy Franklin is a really good receiverand he's finally like understanding like the system
that works best for him. ButI didn't see the flashes going into his
sophomore, junior, senior, second, senior, whatever it is year for
bon Nicks. Bonnicks is basically amean quarterback until this last year, at
least with Jane Dams. We sawit even at a previous school at times.
(19:27):
If this is your first time everlistening to Jet Said Dynasty podcast,
let me tell you there are twoplayers that I have in the know.
How long we've been doing this podcastseven eight years, spend a long time.
There are two players that I've beenlike, I don't understand any of
the hype. One was Samaje Perin, who I still stand as a win.
(19:48):
He's had a nice long career asa backup, but people were talking
about him being like the next generationalbig back. Never did it, never
saw it. Bonus is the nextguy? Bonus? You said, what
second in the Heisman odds right now? Yes, very close. If Bonnicks
wins the Heisman, I am denouncingthe Heisman as a legitimate award in any
(20:12):
sense of the word. Bonicks heyou said it. He went to a
call what is a weaker division. He left the SEC, went to the
Pac twelve, obviously easier division. He joined a high flying offense that we've
seen a lot of players put upa bunch of big numbers at and not
(20:33):
translate the NFL. He is nota good quarterback. He just doesn't have
it. I don't believe anything.I don't think he's clutch. I don't
think he's got accuracy. I thinkhis decision making is poor. I think
that Oregon is a great fit becauseit's a one read and go yes,
and you're right. He's got agood wide receiver there to be fair other
than Tank Bigsby, the wide receivers, the skill positions in Auburn have not
(20:57):
been great for him, but theyalmost be badminted this weekend. They did,
but I am I'm so froud onBonnicks. Bonus is gonna get drafted
the first round at this point, which is insane. I think, especially
the once the heisman, I thinkthat's going to really push it ahead.
(21:17):
I just can't. I can't seeit like right now. For me.
If I was ranking, i'd probablyhave Bonnicks at five, just for because
I feel its obligated to do so. Yes, because there's not these big
name guys I want to have.Yeah, there's not like another like ununless
I start becoming I like fall inlove weirdly with JJ McCarthy, and I
don't believe that's gonna happen. Honestly, I probably rather have di J McCarthy
(21:38):
and that that's my bon Nicks bias. I also JJ McCarthy played really well
against Ohio State. He did helike, he played like a real quarterback.
Yeah, I'm very I actually gotthe email from Dynasty Nerds being like,
hey, we're getting the All twentytwo tape in there. You're trying
to renew your subscription. Now.I was tempt it. Oh, it's
(22:00):
gonna happen. You're gonna know it'sgonna happen eventually. I just can't do
it now just because my scouting.I put it in very loose terms.
My scouting that's what gets me likethrough the off season of football, that's
what so I can't start. Yeah, well we got bowl games, we
got play other stuff to think aboutfootball wise. I'm saving that for whenever
(22:22):
I'm like, oh crap, there'sno more football. I need something to
fill the speaking size, like holein my heart. Speaking of that,
we had like I'm bringing this upjust because it's ridiculous, but uh,
we were just talking about some playoffimplications. Is one of our leagues,
and I keep feeling like man NFLor fantasy playoffs should be starting soon.
We got like three more weeks still, two more weeks. Yeah, yeah,
(22:42):
well two more weeks. Yeah, but like we still got a lot
of football left to go, Likeyou should be, we should all be
happy, don't be don't ever wakeup and open up your sleeper app with
your NFL fantasy app and be likeI got some lips. You'd be thankful
that we can Well we did justleave the Week of thanks. Yes,
I'm thankful for football. I'm alwayshow much football we have left. But
(23:06):
getting back to bow Nicks, Ithink what really jumps out of me.
I'm looking at his stats, andyou hate to look at stats and just
to paint the picture. He didn'tthrow for more than sixteen touchdowns at Auburn,
and then he came in in aseason, which is crazy. I
mean, you could say the samething about Jaydon Daniels and that's and it's
warranted. But he at least hadthe rushing side of things. And we
can look at the rushing here. You know, never over three hundred yard
(23:30):
four yards Oregon easier than he getsto twenty nine. He has thirty seven
this year. Only two receptions willgive him that. Maybe the decision making
has gotten better. I think theother part of this that needs the competition
needs to be had. Because thishappens with bow Nicks, It's gonna happen
with Pennix. It's gonna end.Jane Daniels. Is that these COVID qbs,
(23:52):
And I hate to say like thatbecause that sounds I'm not making a
joke of of all that, butthem getting that extra year that actually of
eligibility. What do you think ismore valuable a fifth year in college where
you can really dominate and really pinpointyou're and focus on your craft, or
(24:14):
four years in college and then thatfifth year being your rookie year in the
NFL where you're maybe thrown into thefire. Probably the former. Yeah,
Like, I don't know if thisis the new wave, and I el's
gonna change this a lot. We'regonna even if we're start this is starting
to get to the behind to theback of the COVID extra towards the end
(24:36):
of that. But even so,I think we're gonna see a lot less
of like three year and go players, especially at quarterback. They're gonna sit
there and collect there and I owlmoney. I'm gonna say, I'm gonna
get paid to go to school.I'm gonna get paid to get better at
the quarterback position and not have thepressure of I was a top fifteen draft
pick. They're gonna try and startme, and I'm gonna have to just
(24:57):
like learn a new playbook and gonnabe more focused on learning the NFL is
supposed to learning quarterback. I thinkthat's why, like someone like Anthony Richardson
last year had a lot of valuebecause he was so young, so young
and like, and that's why Ithink the cults that's probably another thing that
factored in the Colt's decision to go, hey this, we can do this
like clean up surgery for you,but you'll be out for the season.
(25:18):
Yeah, but you're twenty two.Yeah, you're not even twenty two.
Yes, a fresh twenty one yearold going into the draft. So he
still had that extra year, sohe has the more time to take on
that stuff where Jane Daniels wouldn't beable to. Right, I agree,
and I think that I guess mypoint being is, I think the NIL,
(25:40):
especially for quarterbacks, is really gonnahelp their development and it's gonna help
them be more ready because they're gonnastay that extra year. Yes, they're
not gonna feel the pressure to say, hey, I had a great junior
year. I need to go tothe NFL. Now they're gonna come back
and say, hey, maybe Ithrew for four thousand yards my junior year
and I throw for thirty seven hundredin my senior year, But I look
(26:03):
better playing quarterback and I feel morecomfortable. Yeah, and NFL teams start
to respect that because the whole whatis it, the ten thousand hours,
Like you're getting to be like realreps and yeah, out of that and
everything, so that it is valuableto have that those amount of reps,
because that's the knock you have onsomeone like an Anthey Richardson. It's like
they don't have the miles that makesus feel confident in decision correct. And
(26:27):
I do think that I think thatanthy rich And is going to prove to
be an anomaly in the system.I think so too. We're gonna see
a lot more of these guys thatare gonna be staying for the nextra year.
Yeah. But my main point isthere's arguments to be made on a
younger quarterback and with an older yeback. Yeah, yes, they're pros
and cons to each but and Ithink it's gonna even out because right now
(26:48):
we're getting stuck because we're seeing widereceivers in particularly running backs. I think
the running backs is where that's goingto not have that impact, because well
maybe it will, because I guessthet'll make money. But we're getting now
running backs that have another year anothertwo hundred touches on them coming out that
that is meaningful for the running backsway more than it is for the quarterbacks.
(27:10):
So I'll be interested to see howthe running back market, particularly how
it already is because they're looking thesecollege running backs probably looking and going I'm
not going to get drafted in thefirst two rounds. No, I'm going
to be making pennies compared to mythe resuil deals in my NFL colleagues.
Why don't I just stay and makeanother cool mill and party and then have
(27:33):
a great college life and then youknow, have a NFL pension. And
that's the thing. Yours college gameis starting to get more pass heavy like
the NFL is I sent you inCharlie at text saying there was less than
thirty players that rushed for one thousandyards this year, and one of them
was Jayden Daniels. So there wasabout twenty seven running backs in all of
(27:56):
Division one football that rushed for onethousand yards. And a lot of the
guys in this class, the onesthat we know, Braylan Allen, Traveon
Henderson, Blake Korum, Trey Benson, I don't think any of them besides
maybe Korum had two hundred touches thisyear. Yeah, it's yeah, And
(28:17):
maybe that's again the trickle down ofthe RBBC. And that's what's maybe what's
gonna be is we're not gonna seeas many a thousand yard players. We're
gonna see, you know, teamswith two eight hundred yard rushers as opposed
to one fourteen or fifteen hundred yard. And I don't necessarily think that's a
(28:37):
bad thing, no, but Ithink what it comes down. I think
what that helps is guys like usnot to too our own horns, but
that don't get sucked in the statsand say, oh, he never had
a thousand yards. It's like,yeah, that's a part of our factoring
in. But maybe now in thenew era that hey, that does maybe
we start looking at it's like,oh, this guy's getting seven yards a
touch. Every time he's getting he'sgetting it like when he is getting the
(29:00):
opportunity. He's going crazy, rightexactly. Like that's why I'm like,
we're getting off dropping from the quarterbacks. But that's why I'm becoming a real
big fan of Trey Benson out ofFlorida State, because though he never got
the real opportunity to carry the load, every time he touches the ball,
something's happening. Yeah, I verymuch agree. So to go back to
the quarterbacks. Yes, let's getback to the quarterbacks. There is one
(29:22):
guy we're not talking about, andit seems like it's happening with a lot
of teams. That's Michael Pennix. And we're not one hundred percent sure what
the reason is that it's getting likethat, because if you look even Heisman
ods, I think it's Jade andDaniels number one at like plus one hundred.
I think it's Bonnicks at like plusone fifty. Then then it's Michael
Pennix at plus sixteen hundred. Huge. It's just this giant gap where just
(29:47):
a couple of weeks ago, Pennixwas the runaway favorite and they didn't lose.
He didn't play poorly, he didn'thave a great game against Oregon State,
that's the only one. I thinkneither him or DJU passed for over
like one hundred and seventy five yards. It was an ugly game. But
besides that, I don't know exactlywhat happened. I still really like Michael
Pendix as a quarterback. I stillthink he should be a first round quarterback.
(30:11):
I still think whoever's getting him isgetting a legit guy. I just
don't know why he's just seemed tobe forgotten in this come down to the
NFL or the cultural Yeah, maybeit's just looking at the I'm looking at
the game log here. So againstOregon State, like you said, he
one hundred and sixty two yards twotouchdowns, and then they played Washington State
and he threw for two oh fourtwo touchdowns and a pick. So I
(30:32):
think it probably is his numbers arestarting to drop at the end of the
season here where Je Daniels is stillgoing up pop. So it's a recency
biased thing, But he strikes meas a stroud kind of guy. M
Like he's he's a lefty first ofall, which is weird, but he's
big, strong, stands in thepocket well, delivers a strong ball.
(30:57):
He's gonna get so many two accomps. Isn't he just because he's no,
because he's I think he's way biggerthan to it, right, I think,
But I think he's probably he's sixthree two thirteen, like that's Tua
was pushing six foot if he waslucky. Yeah, fair, but two
is like now gotten up to probablythat weight like nowadays. Yeah, but
I'm talking more height wise. Yes, he's got he's got more of a
(31:18):
standard NFL build. Uh, Penix. I will say, as much as
I've really enjoyed watching Penis play theseason, he has a little bit of
the Kenny Picket effect. Though hedid have four thousand almost he had four
six hundred yards last year at Washington, So he said two good seasons.
I forgot he transered from IU fromIndiana. I actually didn't know that.
(31:40):
I didn't know about him before hewent to Washington. He did not have
Wow, he did not have oversixteen hundred yards in four years Indiana and
then came to Washington through for fortysix hundred yards thirty one touchdowns and then
three thirty nine hundred yards thirty twotouchdowns. Do you think there's any correlation
(32:00):
to all these top quarterbacks having topwide receivers to throw to. Besides of
course for the top two, becauseDaniels has neighbors, Yeah, Panics has
it Rom and Bonex has Troy Franklin. Do you think there's any correlation who
does Drake may have? That's whatI'm saying, besides the former two or
(32:21):
like the top two. I thinkthat matters, But I don't know.
It's one of those things where I'mtrying to like we're talking about like a
Kirk Cousins in the NFL, right, where like he a rising tide lifts
all ships. I don't know ifKirk Cousins is a rising tide. And
that's kind of the question here, right, is that are these guys better
(32:44):
because of the talent around them? But I think when you're talking about,
you know, four thousand yard passersin college, it's more, you know,
fifteen yards going to one guy, maybe less than fifteen hundred yards,
So you have to spread it out. Yes, it makes defenses have to
focus on one guy a little bitmore, but I still think you have
to have the ability to it.I would look at it more the other
(33:07):
way, where if you had afirst round wide receiver talent and you struggled
to put up three thousand yards, that would be a red flag, okay,
as opposed to saying, oh,he put up crazy numbers but had
this really good wide receiver. It'slike maybe the offense was just that good
because you can say something with JoeBurrow right puts crazy numbers and he had
all these wide receivers around him, like and he still turned out being that
(33:28):
good. Yeah. I think theone thing that's gonna stand out for Pendix
is that back to back four thousandyard season because yeah, it's hard because
that kind of takes away with KennyPickett effect, where Canny Pickett was just
pour not three thousand yard seasons throughfour years and then has this crazy forty
eight hundred final season. At leasthe gotten the opportunity he's in and then
(33:51):
had two significant years. Yeah, where Bonix didn't have a bad year in
his last year at his first yearin Oregon, but it wasn't four thousand,
six hundred yards like Michael Pennox.Yeah. The one thing that so
it's six and one and a halfdosand the other Pennix is this is year
six in collegetable for Penis. Yeah, but it's also year six for Jayden.
(34:12):
It's I think it's the old thing. Is year six for Jaden?
I have eighty percent sure it isyear five for Jayden. Three years at
ASU, two years of LSU.Didn't you go to Georgia? Did he
start at Georgia? I don't knowif you ever officially played there. There
are no stats on ESPN right now. Nineteen at ASU, twenty twenty a
SU twenty twenty one, ASU twentytwo, twenty twenty three LSU. This
(34:34):
IS's what I'm he is showing me. So he and then Bonnick is a
fifth year, and then Bonus isa fifth year. Yeah, because he
sorted as a freshman. Yeah,Bonnicks in twenty twenty two thirty five hundred
yards twenty nine and seven, wherethen it jumps to the crate and then
it goes to the pretty crazy thirtynine hundred thirty seven touchdowns two receptions.
Yeah, So I think that's gonnabe the big thing that really saves Michael
(34:58):
Penn. Not saves Michael that's abad way to say that, but that's
really gonna be like, oh,he did two unbelievably successful seasons whenever he
got his A scheme that fit him. So the two really dominant years I
think is going to hold more weightat least for me, than the two
like under four thousand yard seasons thatBonnix is having an Oregon Yeah, I
(35:22):
agree. I So what frustrated mein this mock draft that we looked at
was that Pennix wasn't even mentioned inthe first round. Interesting, and that
I think is just asinine. Ithink he is an absolute lock for the
first round, even if he's older. Yeah, I'm not sure. I
don't think he's I'm again, I'mnot gonna know anything for sure or have
(35:42):
any hard opinions on where people aregonna go until I start watching film.
But I can definitely see him.I don't see him as a top half
guy, but I definitely can't seehim going past like out of the first
round. Yeah, he strikes meas like a not to keep talking about
Kenney Pickett, but like the KenneyPicket early twenties to mid twent He's like,
that's where he should go. Peopleare gonna fall in love with Jenden
(36:04):
Daniels in his upside, and Iwill probably be one of those guys.
Yeah, it just all comes outof preference. But when you're that far
back in the first round and say, hey, what are your quarterback?
Okay, well let's go get thisguy who's played a lot of football and
has played well in recent years. So let's talk about how it goes to
the NFL from this cause what I'llpull up the list I have. There
(36:29):
are teams that are probably in i'ldcall them more of a desperate need for
a quarterback, and one that areprobably just a little bit more we could
probably use one. Okay, wheredo you see the best fits for these?
So the teams that need a quarterbackneed in all Capitalize, All Caps,
Patriots, Giants, Raiders, Vikings. Those are the three that need
(36:51):
It's Giants, Raiders, Vikings. There's the three and the four that I
thought of that I was just like, like, they can't go into next
year with their what they have rightnow. So Patriots maybe an O'Connell,
but I highly doubt it. Idon't think so. Patriots. You would
just think that Drake may makes thatfit. If Belichick stays. If you
(37:13):
shake that up and Belichick goes andplay somewhere else or goes to coach somewhere
else, maybe they go kick theKiller Williams route or maybe that's you feel
better about that. I think Iwould struggle with looking at KILEB. Williams
in a Patriots jersey with Belichick becauseI feel like that's trying to fit a
round peg in a square hole.Mm hm, I don't. Maybe I'm
(37:34):
wrong on that, but that's justkind of that's my first opinions on that.
So here's the teams that would probablybe in their best interest to find
a new quarterback. And this isthese are ones that I'm a little bit
more interested in, the Pennix andJane Daniel's route. So that's the Bears.
Well, Bears are an obvious whenthey're gonna get top or gonna get
one of the top guys, Butlike, do they need one? Not
(37:57):
necessarily? Is it probably in theirbest interest? Yes, theirs strike me
as a fire eber Flus new guytrades justin fields, Yes, a second
or third round pick, and thendrafts a guy that they like. Yeah,
that's what I think Steelers could probablybe. And but there you see
what happens after Canada. Yeah, that's an argument, definitely an argument Buccaneers
is one I think Buccaneers would bea really nice one for someone like Jayde
(38:21):
Daniels or Michael Pennix, where theywould bring back Baker for another one year
if he would accept that, andthen whenever, for lack of a better
term, shit hits the fan, then you were able to go. You
don't have to take a full yearwith it, but yeah, you don't
have to like start him right willtill the pressure to say Week one is
going to be my ROOKIEQB. Sothat's like somewhere I could see. I'd
(38:43):
really like to see that with Buccaneerswith Jade Daniels, because after Mike Evans
is gone, I don't think they'regoing to resign them. If he does,
it's great. If not, itjust makes more sense that he wouldn't
at this point. Yeah, theBucks would need a whole new identity and
having Jade Daniels a more exciting quarterbackprospects someone like with that rushing off side,
Yeah, could make them really reallyinteresting. I think the Falcons could
(39:05):
be one. Also, the CommandersI think would be an interesting one.
I think the Commanders are gonna behappy with Sam Howe. I think so.
I think with Sam Howe, atleast if you don't get the top
two guys, you don't have to. Like, I think Sam's gonna play
their way, play the commander's wayutof a quarterback. Yes, Like,
let's say they end up with likethe fifth pick. Definitely, the top
(39:25):
two quarterbacks are gone. There's nota reason for you to take a Daniels
or Appendix there when you could takelike a Joe Alton really help your offensive
line, or Alfashanu or The onehold I would have on that is assuming
Riverboat Ron is not going to bethere, okay, and you bring in
a new guy that says this isn'tmy guy. Fair, That's the only
(39:45):
thing that I would hold off onthere. Though, if they don't promote
the enemy to head coach, Iwill probably ride. Yes, I agree,
I will be picketing in the streetsbecause he deserves to be the head
coach. So then at least sameOkay, well, maybe he wasn't my
guy, or he was my guywhatever, But yeah, I think the
commanders is going to play their way. They're just good enough. Even though
they got rid of all their defensivetalent, they're still just good enough to
(40:08):
play their way out of like thereally really good QBS m That's why I
think they're going to be a prettybig like talk about them trading up for
the first overall or second overall pick. I want to pause for a second
here because we we kind of glazedover your your capital needs and I want
to talk about the giants for asecond. Okay, that's one that I
(40:30):
totally forgot to write down for beinghonest. No, you put them in
the in the capitol. Y putthem in the capital needs. Yeah,
because I wanted to talk about thatbecause they just paid Daniel Jones. Yeah,
so I agree that. Actually Idon't know if I agree that that
there are capital capital end needs, capital needs and what have you want to
say it. I don't know howdesperate they are in it, because I
(40:51):
think their wide receivers just stink. They do like they don't have Like Jalen
Hyatt has done pretty good for arookie, for a second or third round
rookie, but they don't have analpha. They're all slot guys. Like
that offensive is kind of lost.Yeah, so I guess you could make
the same argument withel Daniel Jones inwith the Giants. Oh that'd be fun,
(41:13):
actually, Yeah, but you canmake the same argument with the commanders
as you and with the giants saying, if they have like that midpick,
what's more valuable to you? Getbetter offensive line, get better, get
a better weapon, or reach ona guy like Jade Daniels or Michael Pennix.
Because gon too my head, Iprobably saying Jayde Daniels or Pennick shouldn't
be in a top ten, shouldn'tbe a top ten pick. Whether that
(41:36):
changes because of that, I thinkI'm not, But again I can't.
I'm not saying anyone. I'm notplacing anyone until I sit down and watch
full film. I'm gonna throw thisback. But you know what Jayden Daniels
feels to me right now. AnthonyRichardson to a smaller extent, yes,
because he is the up rushing upside, he's the guy who's getting the hype
(41:58):
late. But he's not the generationalathlete that no that Richardson is. He's
not gonna like run up. Helike to be that type of athlete,
like the one that makes player profileor like go nuts. Yeah, he
would have to run like a fourthree two like oh yeah, he's not
gonna do that exactly. He'll runlow four fives or maybe break four or
five. But but I just you'reright. I'm more man in the sense
(42:22):
of like late season hype rushing upsidelike, but at least Jade Daniels is
carrying the forty eight hundred yard passingyear. Yeah, he's gonna have the
numbers where we were talking about whatunder fifty percent completion radio or whatever it
was m for Anthony Richardson. Yeah, and I think I think Jane Daniels
(42:43):
is much more accurate. And that'slike I would like I would probably argue
the top three. The one thingI will get for bow Nicks is whenever
he is on point, like that, ball placement can be really nice.
Yeah, I would just challenge youas to how often you can see exactly
right, like exactly I just Bonickscreams to me, like, so,
how are we feeling just overall withthis quarterback class. I think you feel
(43:07):
good about I don't feel as goodas last year because those three quarterbacks were
really I think significant. Yes,not as good as last year, but
I think you have three good namesthat but yeah, you maybe four good
names. Like, so let's let'splay this game. So you have uh,
let's play super flex rookie draft.Okay, so you obviously one of
(43:29):
your first six picks is gonna beMarvroin Harrison Junior. Yes, wherever that
lines up, and who does needa quarterback? Obviously Kayleb Williams is gonna
go one, Drake May is gonnago two or three to playing where MH
J goes hm. Who in asuper flex league would you rather have Daniels,
Panics or neighbors. I still thinkI'd take neighbors, but I'm a
(43:54):
really I'm really a big fan ofthe league neighbors at this point. I
don't know. I just think thesuper flex is so hard. If you
hit the right landing spot with theright people, changes your team for the
next five years. Like yeah, but you cannot also make the kind of
same picture as the top three ifyou do put Jayde Daniels at three because
(44:15):
you had the high upside quarterback inBryce Young, who would be Kale this
year, you had the boring safequarterback in c Di Stroud and Drake May
will probably do better than we expectbecause we just because they are just number
two. And then the number threeis the athletically gifted super athletes in Anthony
(44:36):
Richardson or Jane Daniels. That's true. It's kind of like, I don't
say a Walmart version of last year'sdraft. But even though I would,
I think May and Stroud are alot closer than how Bryce Young is and
Caleb Williams in terms of upside.Oh yeah, well, so I would
say that differently, I would saythat the gap between Young and Stroud is
(45:00):
a lot closer than the gap betweenKill Williams and Drake Yes. Like there
there was question about if if Brightshungwas in Go one. There's no doubt
that kit losn't one. Yeah,as much as the first fifty minutes of
this podcast, we talked about maybehow could we make that happen, but
that's not realistically it would take alot of work for that to happen.
(45:22):
So, uh yeah, I agreewith that. I'm I have not dove
into the neighbors and the wide receiversother than like every second I watch of
Marvin Harrison Junior, I just getmore and more so ridiculous. It is
just it's so ridiculous. You didn'twatch the Michigan game at all. He
had some just unbelievable catch up.That's one of I can't wait to watch
(45:45):
Marvin Harrison and because I really dothink I'm going to look at him as
a better prospect than Jamar Chase was. It's gonna be real close. M
I think that was Chase. Iwas so infatuated with Jamar Chick. The
one thing about the one big differenceis that the way that Marvin Harrison plays
a slot I think is what's goingto be a little bit different. Is
that I think his route running maybethe best we've ever seen. And I
(46:09):
don't know how long, Like whois the next best route runner? I
don't know. Coming out of schoolMark Cooper, Mark Cooper did have great
route running, and I think he'llbe better than Mark Cooper and the rout
running. So I'm Mark Cooper's alwayslike the poster child for as soon as
you talk about a rout runner,it's like Mark Cooper. I always joke
because it's like I watched you know, I watch a lot of well you
(46:31):
watch a lot of it live, and it's I'm like, oh, you
know, you flip to a gameand you want to watch a specific,
specific guy. I've gotten to thepoint with Marvin Harrison Junior where it's like
I don't even want to waste mytime watching the tape because I know he's
the best. Yes, Like Ijust want to start with like neighbors and
a bouquet. Yeah, at thispoint, I'm I'm i'd be watching Marvin
(46:52):
Harrison to compare him to previous widereceiver one. Yeah, and seeing how
he compares to previous wide receiver ones. We always write our rankings and pencil
he gets written in. Yeah,Like, even in a super flex league,
there's an argument. There's all legitargument you could make if you had
two qbs or three qbs you felgood about, you can make the argument
(47:14):
doubt. So these quarterbacks are gonnabe very interesting. I think what happens
here in the bowl games and thechampionship games coming up here, I think
is gonna speak volumes for Pennix,is gonna speak volumes for some of these
other guys. And yeah, Imean even I'm really excited about this.
This quarterback class as it pertains tofull of a dynasty, because what for
(47:37):
a dynasty draft, because there aregonna be five quarterbacks probably because you know
somebody will fall in love. Everyleague is gonna have one guy who falls
in love Bononix and then we'll takehim in the first round. YEP,
So you have five quarterbacks, fivefirst round receivers like minimum, I'm I'm
I'm thinking there might even be more. Yeah, there's a lot of good
(47:58):
wide receivers year, and then thetwo you're whatever the top two running backs
are will just go because they're thetop running It's gonna be interesting interesting to
see the draft. The NFL draftcapital spent on running backs this year.
I think it will be the same. Like, I don't even think there
will be someone like a Charbonnay whowill take someone in top fifty. I
don't think there's gonna be a topfifty running back, but there still could
(48:21):
be like three or four taking aroundthree that were just like, oh,
that's all we care about. He'sgoing to an opportunity, that's all we
care Yeah, but I don't thinkthat there's any guys deserving of like,
oh, like I don't. I'mnot gonna put a running back in my
top ten. No, you shouldsuper flex, Like I probably have six
wide receivers at this point that Iwould rather have before any block Powers.
(48:43):
Yeah, that's what I keep forgettingto bring up Rock Powers. In this
Yeah, like in a Super slexleague, your top ten picks should not
be running backs. Think just myopinion, but it's a rough year for
running back really receiver. We'll callit an interesting year for It's so funny
how that happens, where it's likeit's always one or the other. We
(49:05):
very rarely get like, oh mygosh, we've got a great running back
and wide receiver class. Yes,so I'll take a good QB classic,
good wide receiver class because it's justI think those are a lot more fun
running backs are, you know, obviously a part of the game. But
we can end on this and I'veI've been talking to some other people about
this. Oh for and we'll doa little pivot here for redraft. Can
(49:29):
you give me like four running backsyou'd feel good about taking in the first
round going into next year. ChristianMcCaffrey, Cricket, Cricket, not Eckler,
not Eckler, not Taylor, maybeTaylor like in the back end,
not Henry, definitely, not Henry. Maybe Kenneth Walker, he's having a
(49:53):
good year. What traws etn maybeetn et. That's what I'm saying at
this point. You don't feel greatabout it. I'm feeling more willing going
into next year to take like tenwide receivers before I would take the second
running who I would think would bethe second best running back. I mean,
so when we look at the toprunning backs right now, McCaffrey,
(50:14):
who just said most are Ett N. Jacobs who is on a franchise tag
or uh Bjon Bjeon would probably upthere. I would take mcaff and Bejeon
are probably two. Then you havea shot White Camara Swift. That's funny.
(50:34):
I saw b Robinson and said,oh, Bijehon, of course,
but I was actually Brian Bryan Robinsonwide receiver, like twelve Brian Robinson.
Yeah, no, not a lotof twelve. It's part of me,
not a lot, That's what I'msaying. It's just like even I think
this is just starting to trend, even into rookie drafts, where it's just
like running back is turned into avalue game. Not you're looking for the
best value at running back unless you'reswinging for a Bjeon in the draft or
(50:59):
a Christian mccaf free in a redraft. Yeah. I keep scrolling. I
can't find nothing. Yeah, likeI'm I'm willing to go down like we
were drafting AJ Brown and a monroSaint Brown and Ceedee Lamb. I think
Cede Lamb was getting pushed a littlebit towards the end, but we were
taking those guys at the top ofthe second round, when we were taking
Derrick Henry's and Josh Jacobs's and andNick Chubbs in front of home, I'm
(51:19):
just like, I don't think Ican make that same mistake going into next
year. I agree, it's gonnabe interesting to see what it looks like
that landscape next year. Yeah, running back now is just it's devalued.
We can't do anything about it.It is now a value game. Where
are we finding the value at runningback over picking the best running back?
Unless your name is Christian mcaffy, there's always an asterix. But let's not
wish away our season just yet talkingabout redraft next year. Fair, Let's
(51:44):
enjoy what we have now. Yeah, we have to deal with the mistakes
we've taken by taking us Neckler inthe first round. Yes, we learned
from our mistakes, but we stillhave plenty of regular season football left.
We also have playoff football. We'vegot lots of all games, lots of
fun happening, so we'll be herefor every step of the way. Be
sure to fall us on Twitter atJet said Dynasty. We'll be back next
(52:07):
week. Who knows what we're gonnatalk about. We'll see where the world
takes us. We're not a magiceight ball, so we'll figure out as
we go. All right, we'llsee you next week. Goodbye, bye byes.
