Dan, how's it going. It'sgoing great, sir. How about you?
It's good. You know, I'veknown you. I've known you for
years. Yeah, half a decade? Are you serious? Yeah? Five

(00:58):
years? Five years? Is itreally weird that every time I go to
say your name, I'm like, that's not his name, and it's only
you, Like it's me people formuch for much shorter amounts of time,
and I'm like, no, that'sdefinitely their name. But I swear every
time, I'm like, I thinkit's because you're hosting a podcast, and
also because I do it all thetime, but also because I go by

(01:19):
Dan on a lot of the podcastand my name is Daniel. So I
think there's that that does interfere withit a bit. But I will say
this on the on the plus side, Justin, I owe you some Olive
Garden. The way I understood ourbet from last week, which is,
if you show up, you getOlive Garden, which I don't know why
I agreed to that, bet asidefrom the fact that I was playing the

(01:42):
odds. So I don't know.I don't know, but apparently I now
owe you Olive Garden. I don'tknow what you guys were expecting when you
started listening to this episode, butthis is actually the Beth Dutton Business podcast,
which is, if you reschedule anddon't show up to the thing you've
promised that you'll show up to,and you do it several times and you

(02:06):
have somebody on the other side whois nice, you can eventually trick them
into getting you Olive Garden simply fordoing what you said you were goal right,
simply for showing up. That's howThat's how low that I feel Olive
Garden is on the grand and thegrand scheme of things. Oh wow,
yeah, I feel I feel attacked, I feel hurt. I feel ready

(02:27):
to like share and subscribe. Waitno, I'm talking about what you should
do with this podcast enjoying the episode. Um, so we've we've made several
promises at this point, I wouldlike to add one. If you if

(03:14):
We did get five ratings and reviewssince last week, justin um and
a couple of those that did leavea review, not just a rating,
like, for instance, five starsfrom Love Chump. Love Chump gave us
five stars and says these guys aregold, absolute golds. I've tried to
leave a review before, but Idon't but I don't think it worked,

(03:38):
Love Chump, You and I areright there. Yeah, these boys need
to buy those ten gallon hats.If we get to one hundred reviews,
is ten gallon hats for us?And then also from s n L one
four SNLO one four says longtime listener, first time caller, woo hoo,
double decker here to support the purchaseof Cowboy Hats, love the pod and

(03:58):
the laugh. Hashtag storm Montana Montana. Nope, hashtag storm Montana. Storm
Montana is what we're looking for.So thanks guys. Keep leaving those reviews
much. Yeah, Literally, myself worth is based off of what you
say. So and if you havesomething mean to say, don't do that.
Um. But if you have somethingnice to say, say it directly

(04:21):
to me and uh and I'll keepI'll stay alive, just like tinker Bell
Um. So to give you guysa bit of a rundown of what we
do here at John Dunn must I. We do a recap of the episode.
We do a little segment on thethings that jumped out to us from
each episode or the things we liketo things we questioned. We call that

(04:45):
punk house table talk, of course. And then we do and in memorial
because death is the main character onthis show. Death is a natural part
of life, and sometimes when peopleleave this world, they go to other
places and they're not meant to behere anymore. So we added to the
segment. Now we're gonna say heavenor hell for all of them. That's
the way I understand it correctly.Of course, Yes, absolutely, and

(05:06):
that's you either go to heaven oryou go to hell. I would like
to say that everybody that leaves usfrom Yellowstone goes to heaven, but that's
simply not the case around it.So we've been doing a couple of episodes
starting from episode one. This isour third. This is our third episode
since beginning with episode one, butlike overall, our eleventh episode. But

(05:30):
what do we do complicate things?Yeah, we're veterans at this point though.
Eleven episodes in almost a year.I mean, it's like, man,
it's almost like you're listening to Yellowstoneyep, because that's about the same
schedule that they followed. But whatif I what if I give you a
little recap of episode five, Dan, I would love that justin all right,

(05:54):
well, here we go. Caseyhas been arraigned, but he hasn't
told anyone. John normanica why wehad secret to keep? But you know
you do you at the police department, though, it becomes clear that he
was arrested by the Broken Rock tribefor burning those two men that he killed
last episode, that the two thatwere trying to steal uh steal nope,

(06:14):
kidnap that indienous girl, you can't. You don't steal people. Don't steal
people not be owned. Um,anyways, Jamie manages aside from armed robbery,
sorry, go ahead, wait whatfrom armed robbery? Go ahead?
That is that is a terrible dadjoke. And we'll talk about that later.
And Olive Garden maybe, but Ilove Olive Garden. Maybe they're your

(06:38):
family. Um, Casey isn't theonly one escaping the Man's some though.
Rip goes to Montana, Uh goesto a Montana prison rather to nab someone
who is just released to come andjoin the Yellowstone Ranch, and alum of
the Four Sixes, Ripped finds aman named Walker and takes him in.
By episodes in he gets the brand, which Monica watches happen and which officially

(07:02):
makes him family, because if you'renot in Olive Garden, you do have
to get seared with a hot ironbrand to be family, which is why
Olive Garden is always preferable. Yeah. Anyways, you just need the salad
brand in Olive You just you justget covered in that dressing and you're like,

(07:23):
I'm finally I'm home. Elsewhere inMontana, Bob Schwartz Beth Spots comes
to check in on her, whois in rare crazy for him this time.
When Dan Jenkins walks in with hiswife, Beth toys with the idea
of outing Dan for going out withher, then makes friends with his wife
instead. Jamie comes back with Caseyand Toe no longer in prison, and

(07:46):
greets Monica and John after hopping offthe helicopter. Casey is doing everything he
can to be good to everyone, but the main thing he can't overcome is
the guilt he feels about his brotherdying and also killing his wife's brother.
That's a whole different story for adifferent dame. Back on the ranch,
Jamie brings a visitor for Monica, and it just happens to be the president

(08:07):
of Montana State University, like acollege, I'm assuming, I'm not sure
the community college Montana State. Anyways, he offers her a job teaching Native
American studies, and that's not aneasy offer for her to take because,
as Monica points out, it's notlike there's a ton of teachers to step
in at the middle school as shecurrently teaches out. When Beth was drinking

(08:31):
a little bit earlier with Bob,one of my favorite lines from the whole
episode he says, how can youdrink as much as you do? And
she goes adderall, which did notknow that was a thing, ye either
in drug use, But it turnsout it's actually not a thing because the
adderall seemingly didn't work. Because bethEN's up getting wasted by episode in,

(08:52):
calls Jamie to come and get her, which he begrudgingly agrees to do.
When Jamie picks her up, shesays that she's risening Dan Hankins and I'll
kill him myself. And then Iguess Jamie doesn't like that because he bashes
our head against the truck window whenshe makes a gay joke about him,
which isn't cool because it's Pride month. But then that's why it's not cool.

(09:13):
Well, it's also not cool becausethat's a person and that's an identity
that Pepe. We got. Herewe go, But then the two go
full sparring and beth said that Jamiedoesn't no true loss. The two hit
a climax when she pulls a pistolfrom the glove compartment, cocks the hammer
and puts an under a chin, and threatens to suicide before seemingly shooting through

(09:35):
the roof, because Beth is whattraumatized. Everyone say it together, traumatized.
When she gets home, she stumblesthrough the hallway and watches John reading
a book with Tate. She goesinto another room and has a full arm
breakdown. And that is some foreshadowingthat I will not ruin for the new
fans. And that's the end ofepisode five. It's a good job well

(09:56):
done, is all with you?Yeah? My favorite things about this episode
that I really appreciated. Something thatI miss about home because you don't really
run into it much up in Brooklynis how people cash judgment on other people's
trucks. Yes, for sure. When Rip was picking up Walker, who
has a quite a chip on hisshoulder after committing manslaughter and being released into

(10:22):
the world, He's just like,Nah, you know what, I'm gonna
just insult the heck out of people, I believe, makes another another gay
joke about what Rip must have doneto have gotten that truck, which I
don't. I don't know why we'reso rife with these jokes. Yeah,
what did this community do to youpeople? I drive a very standard I

(10:45):
drive a pickup truck justin it's avery standard sized crew cab pickup truck,
and if you if I run intoanyone with a pickup truck, they ask
a litany of questions. And everytime I'm like, this truck doesn't have
that, there is a full likeM like all right, bro, great
awesome. In South Carolina it snowstwice a year, Like, I hope

(11:09):
you got your cool mud tires onto drive down N eighty five. I
don't know, but that is soaccurate. It is a very accurate part
of the South and of just cowboysin general. I feel like it's why,
my guy, if you ain't gotthat V eight, hit me.
And then with the lift kid onthere and the four wheel drive, you
need them. You need them snowtires if you're going to get anywhere in
South Carolina, that's right, youget it. I had somebody literally say

(11:33):
my truck has a V six andthey literally said, I don't know why
you'd even buy a truck without aV eight. I was like, all
right, bro, cool man, good, well you didn't buy this where,
so that's cool for you. SoI mean, man, no,
it's it's funny that we share thatbecause if so I live, I don't
have a car because and you know, you can just hop on a train

(11:56):
go anywhere or take a new Briffneed be. But I you look forward
to it one day because I doplan on being an absolutely insufferable truck person.
Yeah you do. Let's go,like, I want that extended cab,
the one where like they have theirown door. You don't even have
to pop it open. That's whatI got now, No, Mike,
Now listen, when it comes tothe inside of my truck, I've got

(12:18):
everything justin let leather seats. Everyseat's got there, got a seat heater
on, and even the back ones. Like I just don't have the lyft
kit and the twenty inch wheels andall that stuff I don't like. I'm
good, I just haven't. Youknow, I want all of an inside
now V six V A V Asplash. You're gonna get the splash.
I'm gonna get in the VA splash. Wow. But I do. I

(12:41):
love. There are these little thingsthat I pick up from the show,
and I feel like that nuance ofWalker immediately coming out of prison. Don't
really quite understand that because I've notcommitted manslaughter yet. But sorry, as
of this air, day not committedmanage a day tomorrow. Who knows correct,

(13:03):
But I do. I love theseconversations that these guys get into because
they just like come out swinging, which we'll get to that a little bit.
Yes, more with next episode ofcourse Hysterical also need to talk more.

(13:31):
Have you ever heard of taking adderallto drink more? Never heard of
it ever? Now. I hada roommate in college who took and I
can only describe it as all theadderall. Uh. He was he was
on it, man forty. He'dstay up forty hours at a time.
And he's moved on that like cereal. Yeah, he's now like the front

(13:52):
of house manager at a restaurant inin downtown Columbia and he's doing great.
But when I was in college withhim, he was on it, and
I did not ever hear that.I've never taken adderall, but I never
heard that that would allow you todrink more? I do, do you?
I feel like we're getting a littlebit away from Yellowstone, But I
just you since it's come up,like, do you feel like you missed

(14:15):
out yeademically in college by not takingYeah, I kind of do. I
was I was always smart. Yeah, there's a lot of things I'm bad
at. So I don't want peopleto think I'm like cocky or something,
but like smartest something I was goodat. And I was so pious and
like high on my own supply aboutnot taking adderall. Yea, Sometimes I

(14:35):
wonder like, could I have becomea super villain if I'd taken adera.
Yeah. I always used the bluecolor adderall caffeine um, and I have
used it to this day. ButI do feel like I missed out on
another gear at least, you know, like even if it wouldn't make me
a superhero, like really just kickinginto high gear, because I just kind
of coasted on caffeine and and andbeing able to do it. And I

(14:58):
feel like, you know, atthe very least, I'd like to go
back and give that a go.I'm with you. Do you ever have
a chest span of spin out?I didn't. I didn't. I do
remember drinking a lot of caffeine andfeeling as though I could hear my pulse
and that wasn't positive. And Iwas like, this is probably probably the
limit. I should have switched toadderall in all honesty for my own health.

(15:22):
But we go, you know, when we go to the olive garden.
Do you want to take a coupleof adderall and you start drinking some
teetos and see what happens? Justgo from there. See you know,
salad goes down like water at thatpoint because what am I? I'm either
going to drink wine or vodkas?Because what am I going to drink?
Fresca? Honestly incredible, going backto what a moment, going back to

(15:46):
the beginning of this series is justproof of like how wonderful beths won liners.
Yes at the beginning when they werefrom Oh So Good, weren't like
chasing that fire every week. Sofor context, Kelly Riley Beth Dutton met
with Bob Schwartz and he asked ifshe wanted, I guess something else besides

(16:10):
alcohol, because she's been putting itback like a crazy person. And she
goes, quote, what else amI going to drink? Bob A sensor
fresca? And it's so good,It's great. I do I miss the
like, I feel like something thatwe have lost in recent seasons that really

(16:32):
is apparent in season one is theyhad a really sharp way of including humor.
Yeah, that I feel like hassince fallen off. I'm even thinking
about when she gets like toasted andcalls Jamie and it's just that weird sci
fi ring tone that's clearly only forBeth's Yeah, no, I agree with

(16:56):
you. I don't think that thisepisode if we're into bunk table talk,
which I assume we are. Uhand while we're introducing stuff, also,
no one, please don't take recreationaladderall. We're doing a bit here.
Um. But but but I dofeel like this is the first episode that
spins its wheels, so to speak, and not in a bad way,

(17:18):
but the first time that I waswatching on this rewatching going all right,
this didn't add to the you know, the legacy of what this show is.
But it is fun. I mean, we all all the whole.
Like myth of Beth Dutton is shecan just drink all day. She starts
with vodka in the morning, whiskeyby day's in and it just never affects
her. And I forgot that inthis episode. She just gets blackout drunk

(17:42):
in this episode, which means I'mnot even trying to like picture how much
alcohol that is. I like, like, considering what we know, how
she starts her day with four fingersof Tito's I don't. I don't know
what that would take for her tobe that drunk. I mean that's like

(18:03):
a couple of bottles. I meanthat that's dangerous without the adderall all right,
So yeah, it's definitely about herin this episode. It's it's bananas,
and it all goes back to whatwe discussed in our last episode,
which is that she's she's kind ofchasing this this sadness that she's what is

(18:27):
it not not imbibing that's the oppositeof it. I feel like she's trying
to use alcohol to to fix, yeah, to like having having quote unquote
killed her mom fell off of ahorse, And I need to go back

(18:48):
and just watch that scene until Iguess the plot sticks with me because everybody
seems to infer that Beth killed thiswoman, and I'm just not I'm not
saying no me either. I'm notseeing it either. But she literally tells
her daughter that it is her faultand she doesn't get help in time,
So I think she carries that burden, and I also think it's fascinating and

(19:11):
I'm interested now that we know there'sonly six episodes left of Yellowstone, which
I had a fascinating. Are youready for this? This is so off.
We're off the rails already. Andthat's fine because that's what we do
around here. But what if ifI was shooting the last six episodes of
season six or season five, whichclearly like the story could go anywhere,

(19:33):
there's not a lot of groundwork thatis, like, what if it starts
with country music? Right, We'regood, and you're you're like close up
on some rocks, and then thecamera starts panning and you can tell it's
going downhill, and then it showsyou a ton of dead bodies and then
you pan up and it's the trainstation and there are two police officers there.

(19:56):
How about that for the start ofthe last six episodes. I'm not
mad at it isn't that great? That gives us like some sort of driving
force to finish this thing up,and I think it would be amazing.
So it's not do you want thecountry music just that starts it to be
something completely not appropriate? Oh?I was thinking like, oh, go

(20:22):
ahead, here's the Queen double. It's like yeah, I was thinking more
like a sooner or later, God'sgonna cut you down, Johnny Cash.
That would be unbelievable. But whatwhat you're saying is is if we did
something like Heads Carolina Tails California, that would be that would be better than

(20:45):
your estimation. And I got Look, I'm not I'm not upset about that
either. To be fair, thislet's go girls. I love the idea
of UH. I love the ideaof the train station coming to light,

(21:08):
but I also love the idea ofthe brand, which has become this like
it is established very early on inseason one, like this is your proof
of like redemption, this is yourproof of a second chance. And I
would really love it if the brandkind of worked alongside the train station.

(21:30):
And if you have the brand, you're kind of damned if you don't like
that. This, this thing thatwas supposed to free you is actually the
thing that keeps you down. Ilove it. I love it. I
love it. We're writing it righthere, Taylor, if you're listening it
right here, come on. Speakingof speaking of the brand, Walker gets
the brand at the end of episodeone, and from what I gather five

(21:56):
end of episode five, my goodness, UH Walker has the brand. Now,
Jimmy has the brand, Rip hasthe brand, and Casey has the
brand. Casey and Lloyd correct,Yes, what is what's the correlation here?
Because it feels like for the clubto jump from three to five over

(22:18):
the course of like two weeks, like we're getting a little willy nilly with
our brand, especially since the nextepisode, which we're we've not gotten to
yet, is gonna kind of extrapolateon the just the whole lineage of the
brand and what it means. Itdoes feel like they're making a point to
give you some characters to root forthat have the brand. I don't disagree

(22:41):
with that. Why don't I giveyou a little recap of episode six before
we hop into more discussion. Let'sdo it, because I feel like this
we need some more context for thisbrand. So recap episode six, Love
It. The first five minutes ofthis episode are dedicated to how Casey deals

(23:02):
with animals, first a nice horseand then a bear, and then when
Rip rides up on his horse whenhe sees Casey trying to scare this bear
away, the two exchange words andthen beat the living dog mess out of
each other. It's not until laterthat Rip reveals that he's tired of covering
up Casey's secrets, including that hekilled his wife's brother on the farm.

(23:26):
Monica finally starts asking questions about thatbrand, specifically why Casey got one if
it's all about quote unquote second chances. After prodding him for a little bit,
John finally reveals to her that thereason Casey has the brands because he
wouldn't get Monica an abortion. Yikes, but Fate really said. Monica hasn't

(23:47):
been through enough this episode, soshe steps in to stop a fight at
her school a little bit later on, gets knocked down and completely knocked out,
and then her son Tate, isleft in another traumatic situation as he
which is his mom bleed out fromthe head. Therapy is going to be
expensive for that one. John drivesCasey to get Monica and make some comments

(24:07):
about how this happened at her school, which is what we like to call
implicit bias. Google that Monica isbandaged up and she clearly has a concussion,
but is released from the school hospitaland they say, if anything happens
that looks like it's dodgy, youneed to get her to the hospital.
Meanwhile, we're introduced to Sarah Wynn, the og Lesbian of Yellowstone, which

(24:33):
don't get excited it's not like there'sa lot of them, but she is
the first of three. She becomesinterested in John Dunton and wants to tell
his story, which is poor timingbecause Jamie is set to kick off his
run for Attorney General. He meetswith the governor of Montana, this other
guy who is abandoned the attorney generalposition, and this woman named Christina who

(24:56):
becomes quite important later. Just rememberthat. But no one could get a
word in because Beth kept making barbsabout everyone in the room. Once Jamie
leaves, Beth sits down with thegovernor and Governor Lynnell played by character actress
Wendy Monis, reveals something breathtaking toJamie that there's some pretty solid evidence that

(25:18):
John Dutton has cancer. Beth andJamie doubled team John about his cancer and
tell him that he needs to behonest about it. He tells his kids
that has been removed, but hiskids aren't happy with him for hiding it.
That's okay, though, because Johnisn't very happy with Beth after her
little tirade at the Governor's office. And in case if you're curious, Dan

(25:41):
Jenkins and the Broken Rock People havejoined forces to take back that land the
Dutton's ruined by rerouting the river afew episodes ago. Everyone is interested in
this land, which becomes even moreevident when someone is caught flying a drone
over Casey's property. But like mostepisodes of Yellowstone, don't think that's the
biggest problems. The biggest problem isnever the biggest problem. This time it's

(26:03):
all about Monica. As the episodeends, she collapses off the porch and
falls as Casey tries to resuscitate her, because it turns out that head wound
was more serious than we gave itcredit for. And that's episode six.
Sure is justin so bunkhouse table talkme take me back to this brand?

(26:37):
Yeah, well, before we getto the brand, the episode is called
The Remembering, and I do feellike this episode was title is as on
the nose as these episode titles get, because the whole episode is about right
remembering or Monica can't remember because ofher head injury. But it's it's like
remember the brand makes you remember yoursecond chance, or the horse remembering that

(27:02):
he belongs to Casey, or Caseyremember what it was like to grow up
on the ranch and that's why heleaves like it's a very like, it's
very heavy handed, but it's alsoreally great. It also, weirdly enough,
for an episode entitled The Remembering, has a lot of moments that I
forgot took place in Yellowstone. Idid not remember Rip and Casey just absolutely

(27:26):
just trying to kill each other withtheir fists. Did you remember this?
No? And again for what specificreason? Just a lot of intense reactions
for things that are kind of nuanced. Yes, yeah, it is,
like, hey, how's it going? You shouldn't be here? Why don't
we punch about it? Is basicallythe way I understood that he and they

(27:49):
just get over it. And thenyou know, Rip would never touch one
of John Dutton's kids, but Casey, Rip knows Casey won't tell John,
and he's all case He's always lookingfor a fight apparently, And so it's
this weird subtext that they're going with. And I it was crazy, like,
I don't, I don't. Ihad forgotten that that happened. Um,

(28:11):
go ahead. There's I feel likethere's a lot of weird dynamics that
are set up, not just likein season one, but specifically this episode
that I'm not sure ever really carriedout. Yeah, like the bizarre dynamic
between uh, the Governor and BethDutton, and this weird back and forth,

(28:33):
and the governor having a child anaddict, and then her calling Beth
a I wrote this down a fourteenyear old girl who wants to bully the
world. First off, that's alsohow I identify at varying to varying degrees
of success. Uh. But yeah, there's there's all these like weird dynamics.

(28:55):
And then even when Beth has theconversation with John later in the episode,
he's ticked it the way that hetreated or she treated the Governor.
He says to her, don't mentionyour mother again. You forfeited that ride
a long time ago. Yeah,so I'd even forgotten that John holds the
strange resentment toward Beth for the motherdied. There's just a lot of weird.

(29:17):
I don't feel like we see itagain. I don't really feel like
we see this again. I feellike that is just forgotten as the show
moves forward. I do I feellike as we go back through the first
season that season one has, likewe mentioned in past episodes, like a
lot of a lot of interesting storytelling, perhaps a bit bloated, Yeah,

(29:41):
in terms of how much is included, and I feel like after season one
they pull a lot of that backand maybe you don't address it again.
Well on top of that, yeah, I agree that even Beth and Jamie,
this episode strikes the perfect balance forme and their relationship, like they

(30:02):
have a very why I oughta relationshipin this episode where it's like they both
threw a thorn on the other sides, but in a very much sibling,
you know, kind of way.And I think that balances may be forgotten
by the next episode. I don'tremember, but it doesn't last long and
so and then also I had forgottenthat John Dutton told Casey Dutton to take

(30:30):
his girlfriend to go get an abortion. I forgot that. Did you forget
that completely? Yes, which Ithink makes the relationship he has has with
Tape all the more interesting. Correct, but definitely forgot that. Yes.
And now I want to I kindof wanna really get on my Monica sapbox

(30:52):
again, because, as we've alsodiscussed, a lot of people I feel
like grind their gears on Monica andsay like, oh, I want to
waste of a character, But like, woman's been through it, She's a
trauma carrier. Man, She's justlike one thing after another, if it's
not a head injury or a friendcommitting suicide or your kid who wasn't supposed
to be there. Like, there'sa lot happening with Monica and she is

(31:14):
just transporting it from place to placefor us, and she's doing she's doing
a yeoman's work, like admirable workin this show. I want to I
want to ask you an offline conversationwhile we're recording the podcast. We'll take
that answer off the air. Goahead. How much do we want to
avoid spoilers for things coming up?Because something came to mind. We've done

(31:37):
such a bad job so far inthat regard. I guess maybe not big
spoilers, but I don't care,justin personally, I don't care. I
don't have like a you know what. I'll offer some historical context as opposed
to getting into plot details there, and this does become relevant later on if

(32:00):
if you think I'm just like rattlingoff from a history book. But there
is a very dark underbelly of women'scare facilities out west, particularly as it
applies to the Native American community, and a lot of times when people would
get an abortion, it would alsocome with a sterilization, sterilization or a

(32:23):
hysterectomy um. And that was oneof the first things that came to mind
was, oh wow, if thatif she had been taken there, like
it was a sliding doors moment forMonica. Yeah, oh okay, yeah,
Casey, Casey like really saved herlife by not falling in line because

(32:45):
John Dutton just says to the clinic. He doesn't really specify clinic, and
that is even somehow more terrifying nowum yeah, yeah, And I will
say the scene right after that scenewhere John is with Tate again is just
like Kevin Costner acting circles around everyoneon television, like because you know that's

(33:08):
fresh in his mind, and youknow how much he loves this kid,
and that scene without with saying verylittle, he is just crushing it in
that scene. It's unbelievably good television. It's great. He I still think
he does some of his best workalongside Yeah, just like I don't know,
he like vibes with the kid.And I also think for those of

(33:30):
you that are just live in aworld where every TV episode of prestige television
has to be an hour and twelveminutes. I'm looking at you, Ted
Lasso. Look, this episode,The Remembering is forty one minutes long with
credits, and it is great. It's great and without credits. I mean,

(33:51):
we're in the thirties, Like youcan make good television without it being
seventy minutes long for an episode. It's really quality stuff. Here. Give
me, give me a thoughtful chapterof a story forty minutes long. Yeah,
you're making a movie. Challenge yourself, get it ninety or less.
Let me pop in that movie andhop out. I don't need to.

(34:13):
I don't need to sit there withyou, Michael Bay for like three and
a half hours. Never with MichaelBay. Never, never with Michael Bay.
I don't mind a long movie.I'm one of these weird people that
thinks it should be really long orreally short, like the like the two
hour and ten minute movie. Ijust don't have, you know, I'm
like, let's either beat this thingup or just like let's cut it down
somehow. Like you know, TheFlash is coming out this week. I

(34:36):
think it's like two and a halfhours. I'm like, I mean it's
the Flash, right, Like heruns fast. We don't need we don't
need do and a half hours here, So but whatever, whatever you say.
I'm looking through my notes and Iknow that I keep like pushing this
in a strangely aggressive way. Butbefore we get back to the brand,
is there anything else, no,that that popped out to you this episode?

(35:00):
No, we need to camp onthe brand for a little bit because
I think the way that it's explainedin this episode, uh, does lend
itself to questions that I'm not surethey've completely answered, because the way John
explains it is it's, uh,it's a second chance. Yeah, And

(35:21):
they don't ever explicitly say in thisepisode. I would assume that they do
later on, but it's heavily impliedthat once you have the brand, you're
pretty much on the Dutton ranch forforever, with the exception of Casey.
Isn't that how you would understand it? Because with the Jimmy storyline that comes
into play, right, Yeah.Yes, And it seems like Lloyd,

(35:45):
well we'll have to watch why yeahthrough the episodes because I can't remember,
but it seems like Lloyd they've neverquite fleshed out his second chance story.
No, they have not, Jimmy, we just know he's like an addict
living in a trailer. Correct,we know rips, they do rips.
Yeah, they go back. Yeah. Um, Casey didn't really get his

(36:08):
as a second chance. I feellike he got his as a punishment.
Yeah, it was like he messedup one too many times? What does
that even mean? Walker just poppedout with with sexy eyes and a neck
a beard, well, sing everybodya song, and they were like,
here you go, buddy. TheWalker of it all makes sense because that

(36:29):
guy got out of jail from murder. And they're basically like, down it's
manslaugh. Okay, excuse me,the diet coke of murder you whatever the
case may be. Basically they're saying, you were a cowboy before, no
one will hire you because of thatold manslaughter thing. Well now you got
the Y brand, which means youget to be a cowboy again. However,

(36:52):
this is it for you, Likeyou can't leave here, like this
is your chance to do the thingyou want to do again. And that
makes ense, although as his storyunfolds, there's some questions there too,
But we'll get there when we getthere. Yeah, yeah, I like
that, Yeah, but I dothink it plays They put this story here,
because the whole episode is about pastmistakes and remembering, like from the

(37:15):
time Casey goes and finds the UntamedMustang and then loses it and then it
comes back at the end. Likeit's a very like well thought out episodes
and this you know, hearing thelegend of the brand and like it being
a constant reminder of who you belongto or what you're like you get a

(37:36):
second chance is really great, likea really great thing to have in this
episode, even though I think there'ssome questions like how can Casey leave that
I don't quite fully understand. Iwhen it comes to this show, I
I love it so much. IfI kind of turned my brain off,
if I start putting my thinking capon, I get a little frustrated.

(37:57):
But I also find these glimpses ofthings that I really love because I feel
like this second chance motif really kindof applies to John as well. Yeah,
and with the cancer and also justlike being in the river with his
friend at the end and talking abouthow his kids are going to put him
in a nursing home and like theydon't want anything to do with him.

(38:19):
I feel like he's having these thesequestions of like, have I done this
right? And like, even ashe continues to take terrible moves forward,
he's like, is this the bestway I could have done it? And
I think he asks that through Tate. He talks about how Tate is like
in your grandchildren, or a secondchance to do what you couldn't do with
your kids. I feel like,if there's really one second chance story,

(38:42):
it's John's. And perhaps the biggesttragedy of the show is that he will
continue to flub it until it's over, to squander it completely or squalor it
as you would say. I like, I do think that there is uh
You're welcome for that. I know, I'm really mad. You are the

(39:04):
full full board, full board Englishmajor is what you were? Um.
I do love the fact that theyhad him beat cancer before the show started,
because it is it's such a differentvibe, Like it's a much better
like I've not really seen that beforewhere the patriarch or matriarch or the head
of the family like all the kidsget worried and that he's like, no,

(39:27):
I already did this thing. Ijust didn't tell anybody because I didn't
want to tell anybody. Is adifferent, different animal together and it was
a fun little wrinkle to this showthat I enjoyed quite a bit. Yeah,
I was trying to think if that, I mean, I can't.
I think it's the beginning of let'sjust say, I know that this story

(39:47):
is not over correct correct, yes, but the cancer part is yeah.
Yeah, but but it's yeah,John is gonna have you know. Yeah,
of course we're on the same page, well without without a natural transition
there, because I feel like I'mkind of stumbling over. Let's just talk

(40:08):
about the brand, you know,No, I'm I want to take us
into our final segment, the endmemorium. This is where if we had
little song snippets for every we wouldplay like taps or something right like we're
Pam Pame, But we don't dothat here. We're not a morning zoo.
This is a serious podcast. Butthat's what we would do, right.

(40:29):
How How in trouble will you getif I sing like the first few
bars of like spend oh your timewaiting for that second chains and then I'll
just sing is and we like havethat playing over as we talk about the
people who we lost. This episode, as beautiful as it sounded, no
one's gonna think that's a copyright infringement. Hey, I auditioned for American Idol

(40:53):
once. Did you really yea onelocation season six Charleston? So okay,
my home state. How did itgo? I got through one producer around
okay, and that's it. Youdidn't get to see the judges though,
No, absolutely not. Wow?What year was that? Like? Six

(41:15):
o seven? Yeah, it wasthe year that Jordan sparks one. Um,
Chris, what's she doing now?Yeah? Exactly versus you? I
mean, come on, we're gonnaye talk about John Dutton. I had
a buddy that was on that thatseason one season and there Chris Slaw.
He made the top ten. Ohyeah, I remember that name. Yeah,

(41:35):
yeah, yeah, so he probablywas down there with you. So
good for Chris. In today inMemoriam, along with Justin's American Idol audition,
is what do we have? Justthat drone that fell? I think
that drone is going that drone isgoing straight to hell by the way heaven?

(42:00):
Yeah, oh you were really Wow? Interesting? Interesting a drone spying
on Native American land. Man,that's tough there, I'm going to hell
sticking with it. I'm gonna sayit's having artificial intelligence. We're getting closer
to the singularity. And once weget to that point and the machines are

(42:21):
in charge, even if the machineshave been sent to Hell, they'll find
a way to bring them back toWow. So I'm gonna say that it
went to heaven. Wow. Therewas no there was no death. There
was a lot of trauma. Therereally wasn't a single death. This is
the first time we've done this show, and we've covered now six plus eight,
we've covered fourteen episodes, and thisis the first time there isn't a

(42:45):
single solitary death of any kind, not even an animal. Not an animal,
you know, I will say,for lack of an in memorium,
I do want to just interject, like a favorite, little favorite scene corner,
a little favorite scene segment, favoritescene segment, of course, so
that we're not just talking about dronesfalling down. I do think that one

(43:09):
of the best scenes that we getwe were talking about Beth and Jamie's Beth
and Jamie's like weird relationship, thatscene where she fully breaks down drunk as
a skunk in the truck and putsthe gun like under her chin, and
Jamie has this moment of sympathy andsays, if you need to hate me

(43:29):
to like get through the day,you can do that. Yeah. I
thought that was I thought that wasawfully special. I feel like I could
mention that and then in the endmemorium because the gun safety is very important
and you should never put a gununder your chin, let alone a loaded
one, let alone a loaded onewhere the hammer is cocked. Yeah,
so that could have been that couldhave been a dicey situation real quick.

(43:51):
We could also say that we canofficially say immemorium to Dan Jenkins's chance of
owning or running anything near or theyell like as soon as he shakes the
hand of Chief Rainwater where they getto build the casino and they're gonna lease
it back to him, that partyis over and everybody knows it but him.
So there's that. I mean,he definitely loses any chance he has

(44:15):
of doing what he's set out todo. Um, So yeah, that's
something. But yeah, we sayin memoriam to Dan Jenkins and his wife's
sex life. Yeah, because shejust gets home and starts taking off her
socks, which, for some reason, very long focus on her taking off
her long shot of her taking offthe socks. You're right, her just

(44:37):
being like I'm bored, I'm bored. This is the most fun I've I've
had a long time. She shouldhave come back. We could have actually
had fun for once. I waslike, this woman is not having a
good time at home. Nope, certainly not. And he has no use
for her reason he doesn't so well, Dan, Dan only wants wants money

(44:57):
and problems. As the as theold a dodge goes adage, it's not
a dodge, dang it a dodge. Oh. I used to say,
um, you know the Adirondacks.Yes, you're an Adirondack chair. I
used to say a deer and dack, a deer and deck. Yeah,

(45:19):
of course I didn't know. Ididn't know how to pronounce that either.
And deck it's a deer and deck. Give me that a deer and deck
chair and un get Dan Jenkins outof here. That's right, of course.
Justin I feel like we did it, man, I think we did.
This is another a successful episode ofJohn Dutton Must Die. I didn't
really stumble on anything. I feellike you pass couple episode. You brought

(45:42):
your a game today. I reallydo. Thank you so much. I
really do want to go back quicklybecause now I'm worried. Don't take don't
take adderall recreationally. Definitely, don'ttake adderall recreationally. And drink and frankly,
don't even drink fresca. Yeah,I wouldn't trust fresca like a grapefruit
flavored soda pay or flavored. Whatis it? Yeah, it's like the

(46:05):
non alcoholic zeema. Yeah, Idon't do it. Don't do it next
until next week, y'all. Stayoff adderall, keep watching Yellowstone, and
we'll see you here with with fourfingers of teetos. You're about to hear

(46:45):
some ads that help keep the lightson here at the studio. Feel free
to listen, feel free to turnit off whatever you want to. But
either way, thanks so much foryour support. A. S.
