O grupo BBF, Brasil Biofuels, quer recuperar áreas degradadas na região amazônica, a partir do cultivo de plantas nativas e a captura de carbono. Além da recuperação ambiental, a atividade vai gerar emprego e renda. Em entrevista ao JR Agro, o CEO do grupo, Milton Steagall, contou sobre a história da empresa, que começou com a necessidade de produzir um combustível ecológico para as termelétricas. Entre as plantas cultivadas, estão o cacau, o açaí e o óleo de palma. Este último utilizado para produzir biodiesel e querosene de avião. Até 2030, o grupo tem uma meta ousada: se tornar o maior produtor individual de cacau do mundo. O posto hoje é ocupado por Gana e Costa do Marfim.
